As far as breakfast goes, I am a waffle fan above all else. And not those gigantic belgian waffles that you get in Greek diners in New York, either. I like my waffles to be the southern style, thin, right out of the iron-type waffles. I’m also a big fan of the sweet breakfast, so one look at the menu at Lakeside Waffles and I knew I had to go. Unfortunately for me my diet I’m currently on wouldn’t allow me to order what I really wanted, the PB+banana waffle. Or even better, the Fools Gold sandwich with PB+Jelly+Bacon. I just got a waffle with strawberries and bannanas and the 10-fiddy syrup. The server complimented me on my selection. My friend ordered a Jenny with the whiskey syrup. We sat in the lobby of the theater so we could see the cartoons on the screen. However on this Sunday afternoon there were no little kids to be found. No matter, there was a very cool combo playing in the doorway to the theater, complete with stand up bass, accordion, guitar, and little piano. And they were folking-it-up on some Misfits covers, too. The food didn’t blow my mind, but didn’t disappoint. The waffles were just ok, but I’m sure with all the interesting combinations you can try, you can make up for the blandness of the waffle itself. I unfortunately didn’t let my taste buds run wild because of my calorie counting. The bacon, however, was really outstanding. I have to go back for that Fools Gold sandwich, which, by the way, has a very interesting history… I will be back.

With the Waffle Brothers in far-off Stapleton on Sundays, we decided to try Lakeside to satisfy our Sunday waffle craving. We sat outside instead of at the counter, as the other inside seating was unavailable. It looked like a Sunday morning kiddie nightclub was going on, which sounds awesome. I had The Yo-yo Waffle w/brie, basil, bacon, & tomato was good. The side of balsamic vinegar seemed too strong, overwhelming the other flavors. So I set it aside and enjoyed my waffle without any added liquid. I didn’t try my companions’ food(the bacon-egg-cheese waffle sandwich and something with stout syrup), so I’ll just have to visit Lakeside again so I can explore the menu a bit more.

I rather enjoyed Lakeside waffles. My only disappointment was that they did not have the cartoons playing. Something about needing a new projector. I had the bacon, brie, basil and balsamic waffles. Amazingly odd, yet tasty as hell combination. Who thought this one up? My mini reviewer had the stereo. Apples and cinnamon with a sugary and slightly crystalized honey syrup. I had no choice but to eat some of his. He however, was not as fond of mine. Turns out, he is not a huge fan of basil. Once they get the projector fixed and start playing cartoons again, we are going to become regulars.

A good lesson from this place: Innovative people can make a successful restaurant by following their vision, and that doesn’t have to include a half million dollar design budget. In that way Lakeside Waffles calls to mind good restaurants like Beatrice & Woodsley or Tables. Pluses: Good basic waffle recipe and creative cookery(had the brie, fresh basil, tomatos and bacon waffle, served with balsamic vinegar, and my sweet had the Very Berry Waffle with Stanahan’s Whiskey syrup,(or something like that)). Additionally, they also have some serious Danger Monkey(Pablo’s) coffee and some very sweet people working there. Minuses: Eensy weensy, tiny weeny; hard to figure out their hours; and there’s an element of grundginess about the place(= the flip side of funkiness). Hope these folks make it. They deserve all the good that befalls them. It’s a sure place to return to, simply just to see what they do with their waffled sandwiches. Ummmmmmm.

Some say first impressions can be deceiving and to that I’ll say I’d still be satisfied if my second visit is half as enjoyable. Like many people, I fell victim to the erratic hours, but eventually I saddled up to the counter and tossed back a pair of waffles. First, peanut butter and bananas like I make at home, but the cinnamon was a nice touch here. Then I went with berries and the rightfully touted Ten Fidy syrup. I only noticed the sandwiches menu while eating and finding out what happens when waffle iron meets brie has been nagging me since. The menu choices excited me so much that I did indeed want to eat there all day and the atmosphere was inviting as it was. The Replacements blared on the kitchen radio while I had a friendly conversation with the man behind the menu, who seemed simultaneously laid back and yet passionate about his waffles, creative sandwiches, vegan baked goods and the rescuing and resuscitation of irons. I then spent a half hour sitting out front sipping iced coffee(Pablo’s Danger Monkey, and yes I’ll have another) while watching the Oriental staff skateboard along the sidewalk. It was quite the perfect late morning.

I can’t comment on their operating hours because I’ve never had that problem. But I’m dropping a star because of this has aparently been a problem. However, the food is awesome and very reasonably priced. only quality ingredients here. Even the coffee is among the best around, and I’m from Seattle, so that’s saying something. I wish there was more seating, but they can’t do anything about the size. On nice days, they have chairs out front, so that works for me. If you’re at a show at the Oriental, wait to get there before you eat. This place should be a Berkley tradition.

My best girl friend told me about this little treasure. I guess the story goes that it used to be part of the Oriental theater and one day one of their friends decided to add on with a little waffle joint. The owner of this little treasure is named Aaron and he is awesome. He says he had the recipe handed down from his grandmother to make those o so delectable, amazingly waffles. I had a waffle that had fresh apples and caramelized apples with some whipped cream. All the ingredients were so fresh and delicious! My best friend, ‘Fresherson’(fellow Unilocaler) had the Wild Chipmunk which was fantastic! They have little peanut butter chocolate chips that are added last to melt into the waffle and it really makes it an all around winner in my book! I have a thing about leaving a restaurant and smelling like it, but I would definitely go back time and time again! Expand guys so I can bring a bajillion people! Hello Scott and Mark and Aaron! You guys are fricken awesome. We’re friends now. :P

Mmmmmimosas! And Waffles! And some guy who spoke in a fake British(I think) accent singing one song over and over again on stage instead of cartoons… this man I could do without. The waffles, service and drinks I’ll definitely return for! We got to Lakeside Waffles around noon and while I was disappointed not to experience the amazingness of cartoons in the Oriental theater I was super stoked on my waffle experience. Facing the ever pressing issue of Sweet vs. Savory Brunch meals I chose the Yo Yo. A waffle topped with spinach, brie, tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. YUM. PLUS Jesse convinced me to get a side of some beer involved syrup, which was freaking delicious. Brian the bartender was both hilarious and attentive. I never had an empty glass! $ 5 bottomless Mimosa = Happy Sunday for me! Waffles were reasonably priced and filling too. Sidenote: I’ve also had a peanut butter banana waffle during a show at the Oriental and it’s a little decadent… but tasty!

Everything cooked in a waffle iron. How can they go wrong? They can’t. I have been to Lakeside twice now and both times I find myself not being able to decide what to get. It all looks refreshing and different. Yes, they have the standard waffles and fruit and waffles with PB and banana(although, more banana would be great), they have waffles with bacon, brie and basil. And… it’s surprisingly delicious. And all of these paired with Pablo’s Danger Monkey coffee! What’s that you say? Oh yeah. They run cartoons on the big screen inside the Oriental Theater. Seating is sparse if you want a regular seat but they have moved in tables for 6 or 8 in the main lobby. Whatever you do though, have the Oskar Blues Ten Fidy syrup. You won’t be sorry.

Show of hands. Who of you out there in the wide world of the internets have ever eaten a waffle sandwich while watching someone play a saw? With a bow? Eating a waffle sandwich? I thought so. I did just that the other evening. I met some of my favorite people at the Oriental Theatre for a show, and was STARVING from a long day of work. Also, it was St Patties so I spent the day talking about corned beef and cabbage. Starving. I ordered the first thing on the menu and was certainly not disappointed. The waffle was sooo good and it came with this raspberry dipping sauce. I would recommend making Lakeside waffles a part of your normal routine. I have heard(and given) nothing but rave reviews. Mmm. Waffley goodness…

When I was a little girl, I used to put a fried egg on my waffle and syrup over that, because salty and sweet has always been a pleasure that I enjoy. Now that I’m all growns up, all I have to do is go to Lakeside Waffles and they will put a fried egg(and bacon!) IN a waffle FOR me! I visited this place for the first time with some friends this past weekend. The dish I had was called«The Early Bird». I was happy with the blueberry syrup that I dipped my deliciousness in. I was super happy with the Bloody Mary(spicy, although, could have been a bit more thick for my liking), and super duper happy with the strong coffee. Lakeside waffles feels less like being at a restaurant and more like I have a friend who works at The Oriental Theater and has invited me to hang out low key and eat some tasty breakfast there on a morning they have decided to open the place up just for shits and giggles. Love it. I believe Lakeside Amusement Park is one of the most magical places on earth. I believe that Lakeside Waffles is one of the best breakfast experiences I’ve had on earth. I’d go back here every weekend, but I have to share my weekend mornings with Dim Sum.

I got the«wafflette». An omelete made in a waffle iron? Sweet! On my waffle I had ten fidy(stout!) syrup, which was super scrump. The boy had a waffle topped with spinach, brie, and bacon. I have this theory that it would be even better if the toppings were instead inside the waffle, but I’ll just keep that for when I open a waffle stand. The service was good, if a bit willy, nilly.

Wait a minute. There’s a little restaurant just off The Oriental? Wait just another minute. They serve effing WAFFLES?! I met up with Tif here before going to a show at The Oriental and I had eaten some rabbit food before I came. Here’s the conversation that followed: Tiffany: Hey, do you want to get a waffle? Me: No, I just ate some…*smells air*…HELLS yeah! I had a bacon, egg and cheese waffle sammuch and it was delish! I can’t wait to go back and try some of their sweet waffles. And some of their savory waffles. Um. I can’t wait to go back here and eat some more waffles. PLUS, I found out that on the weekends, they open up The Oriental and you can bring your waffles in the and they play cartoons up on the stage. Awesome! The one kind of bummer about this place is that there is not much in the form of seating, so it can get a little cramped. But you know what, standing up to eat or getting smooshed in a corner is a small price to pay for eating delicious waffles.

Denver, I wish we’d gotten to see more of each other, but from what I did see, you’re true blue. Being on tour brought me to the Oriental Theatre, whose side entry provides access to Lakeside Waffle. I got to the theatre before LW had opened. I was in some serious need for coffee. Though they weren’t opening for a few hours. One of the two guys there brewed a pot for me and found me with a pipping hot mug in hand. We’re off to a good start Lakeside Waffle. The coffee was strong and wonderful. We chatted for a bit and I went back to check out their operation. It’s a tiny place that could easily be overwhelmed by big show spilling over. I liked it though, it was tiny, but cozy and smacked of independence and the love of waffles. Such a good idea. Once doors open for the show, this place is bonkers… and I get hungry. I wait for things to die down a little bit and ask for a special request, actually a pair. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and apples. Without having to ask they grilled the apples so their consistency was somewhere between the bacon and the cheese, which is perfect. Round two was a bacon jalapeño waffle, which was equally compelling. I love the spirit and the food here, I wish I were able to come back there without driving from LA. I wish those guys the best of luck and I hope you’ll give your support Denver.

The seating situation really kills this place for me. Sitting in a theater in the dark with very loud Looney Toons on doesn’t make for a nice breakfast, and there are maybe 4 proper tables out in the lobby, so the theater is where you will most likely be sitting. Our wait time for the food was excessive(+30 minutes), but I can forgive that as it’s a new place that was slammed that morning and they are still working out the kinks. The owner was very apologetic and comped the whole meal, which was going above and beyond. It just didn’t work with a young child– she ended up transfixed by the cartoons instead of talking, which is the whole reason we go out together. It’s one of those ideas that people without kids think parents will like. If I want to eat alone while my kid stares blankly at a screen, I can stay home and turn on the TV. I couldn’t tell you much about the food– by the time it came I just wanted to get out of there. I remember it being pretty good though.

I wanted to try Lakeside Waffles for two reasons — a review I had read about it here on Unilocal and Kat A’s insistence that I try it last week at the cupcake tour. Kat didn’t think she could go herself because of Lily(her beautiful daughter that is incredibly active), but Kat I hope you’re reading this because I have something to tell you and all the other parents in Denver. Lakeside Waffles likes parents and children. They are a part of the Oriental Theater and so you can take your waffles into the theater where they are showing old school cartoons on the big screen for your kiddies and the wait staff is serving up mimosas, Bloody Marys, or your favorite morning poison so everyone enjoys the experience. You’re welcome. Now, onto the actual place. It is small with 2 stools at the kitchen bar, 1 table outside and 2 inside. But, like I said before, if those are taken sit at the bar in the Oriental or at one of the tables inside the theater. And the food? Brilliant! I mean they make everything in a waffle press. They even serve a selection of sandwiches that they’ll toast in that puppy for you. One sandwich that stuck out in my head had peanut butter, apples and brie. This place fracking owns novelty and I adore it. They, of course, specialize in waffles. I chose a savory one that came with bacon, brie, spinach, tomatoes and a balsamic vinaigrette for dipping. It was so amazingly delicious. But, I highly recommend getting a sweet waffle with the ten fidy syrup. It’s made from Oskar Blues ten fidy beer and it’s mouth-watering good. They are open from 9 — 3 most days(closed for sure on Mondays and maybe Tuesdays) and also during shows at the Oriental. So do yourself a favor and get up there this weekend for brunch or don’t eat dinner before your next show and get yourself some waffles! Bonus — they serve Pablo’s Danger Monkey coffee and the people running this place, working there and just hanging out are some of the friendliest folks I’ve come across in a while.

I think I’m on a brunchcapade. Trying new brunch places every weekend. This week we went to Lakeside Waffles. Great concept and exceptional food! I’ll warn you– this place is very laid back. Don’t expect: *being seated when you come in– just find a place, *punctual filling of coffee– they must only have one coffee pot full at a time, they ran out a few times to make us wait, *the waiter to bring any silverware or condiments– you just have to ask and they are more than happy to do so. *the place to be super clean and bright. Its a theater/bar for concerts and shows, and it still kinda feels like that even at 10am. The whole waffle iron thing is great– everything comes out looking like a waffle, whether its a waffle, a sandwich, or an omelet. I had the Waffles in Stereo– an apples and cinnamon waffle, which was like eating apple pie for breakfast. My friend had the Yo-Yo, a savory waffle with brie, basil, bacon, and tomato served with balsamic vinegar. It was delicious. The boys had omelets with the toppings of their choice, and were gone before I could even try a bite. We all shared mimosas and coffee(Pablo’s coffee, by the way) which were great, and served in plastic water cups and mismatched mugs. Mine was a Yellow Lab mug– ha. Good music and cartoons playing. It looks like you can sit in the theater… but the room was so dark, I’m not sure you could read the menu or eat your food. Maybe they hadn’t turned the lights on? Or maybe its the theater«ambiance» they are looking for. I will definitely be back– looking forward to those great looking sandwiches. For just getting started, I’m excited for them. If they can get more coffee going, a little better service, this place would be just the cooky-new-concept-brunch-place Denver needs.

Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest. In this case, it’s, «lets cook shit in waffle irons»… ANDITWORKS. Here’s the real deal. This place has sweet AND savory waffles. And they are both really good. I had waffles in stereo, which is two waffles with apples and some cinnamon honey, and it was serious. Seriously good that is. Tiffany had some waffle with basil, cheese, & bacon. It also tasted great. I read the menu and, I’ll tell you, there is a variety of things I want. Including the omlette. I’ll let you experience why for yourself. BTW, this place is attached to the Oriental theatre, so you can order from the bar and watch TV on the big screen in there while you eat this decadent stuff.

Mmmmmm the smell of hot butter and batter. Nothing reminds you of your childhood than the smell of a Saturday morning breakfast fest. Checked out the new Lakeside Waffles this past weekend and I was ever so happy. This small(seats maybe 6 at the counter) neighborhood breakfast nook makes you feel right at home. The T.C.B. with bananas and peanut butter will knock your socks off. I guess the Cee-Lo is the way to go though. Soon they will be playing Saturday morning cartoons in the theater to make your Saturday morning breakfast even more fun. Those mimosas don’t hurt either. The only thing that bummed me out was they ran out of coffee. No fear though, there is a neighborhood coffee shop around the corner. Good job guys. I’ll be back soon.

Brand new, Lakeside Waffles has taken over the space that was formerly Meltz at the Oriental Theater in NW Denver. With a menu consisting of sweet and savory waffles, sandwiches, omelettes, fresh juices and baked goods and awesome coffee, this is a great place to hang out for a laid back weekend brunch or mid-week lunch. They also serve during shows at the Oriental Theater. I recently went in for breakfast on a Saturday and ordered a «Wafflette» which is a combo omelette and waffle. They cook the omelettes on the waffle iron, so you end up with a half a waffle and a half an omlette. I had mine with spinach, ham and swiss and the waffle with strawberries, whipped cream and syrup. Chased it down with a side of bacon and a really good café Americano for about $ 10. The food came out fast and was a really big portion. I ate at the bar in the theater where a couple of friendly neighbors were enjoying mimosas and bloody mary’s. Inside the Theater, a few people were watching cartoons on the big screen. I think it was Bugs Bunny, but I heard the Smurfs were on too. Looking forward to trying more things on the menu.
