Really tremendous espresso, cortado and drip coffee. This is what coffee should be.

OFFTHECHARTSESPRESSO… Now I’m hyoed, as this was, as best explained, an espresso with extra sugar. This town is surprising me with the extremely high quality of coffee.

I did enjoy this one a little bit better than the one on Larimer. The latte did not have the same unusual taste and flavor that the other one did. That isn’t to say that I was wowed by this location, it still wasn’t great. I also tried their drip coffee(which was a Sumatra). That had an off flavor. It was a little below average but I’m going to put that up to maybe personal preference. The barista was nice. I personally prefer this one to the one on Larimer because it has less of a pretentious feel. It was still unusually quiet and perhaps a bit hipster. These are a very generous 4 stars, but it was a step-up from the Larimer location.

Very cool little place! Upon pulling up to park my wife was convinced this was an old auto shop turned coffee shop. Given the«garage door» window, I would agree. The setup is simple and the décor is modern and inviting. The coffee was excellent as well. What I liked most was he fact that you could watch the roasting process as it went on. These guys obviously care about coffee!

We went to three different roasting companies on the same day, and another one the previous day. Boxcar, huckleberry, Corvus, and pablos. Huckleberry roasters was cute, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Overall it was a good experience. Their cappuccino had a very fruity flavour On its own, it is a strong contender for a really great roaster and coffee location. Against the others it ranked 4. Bare in mind that this was no reflection of the staff, or the location, just that the coffee was more to our liking elsewhere, but still 1 million times better than your average coffee.

There are a few great coffee shops in the Denver metro area, and this is one of them. They roast their own coffee and have a few flavorful varietals to choose from. Unlike other boutique coffee shops they have daily, and morning hours(open at 7am every day). Worth the trip every time!

Update: I’ve added a star because I do really like this place and the people are nice. I haven’t had any silly issues since I’ve gone back. Maybe I was in a terrible mood when I first posted my review. I’m happy to add more stars when the experience is consistently good. I want small businesses to succeed. (Original review below) I come here now and again, because it’s 1 of 3 places in my neighborhood where I can get some work done. I like the vibe, but it’s the little things that make me want to write a review. First, they offer great treats. Too bad there’s flies crawling over everything in the case. Second, why is there never a spoon or stir stick at the cream station? Third, why is the honey hidden somewhere, making me wait to ask for it? Fourth, for $ 3.85, this is the smallest amount of loose tea I’ve ever seen. I would guess a teaspoon, maybe. At least it’s a hip joint. But, I keep having the same quirky issues whenever I come in. I guess I’m picky. Not sure how much longer I’ll keep trying.

Well, the in shop experience is for sure quite nice. Great ambiance, and friendly baristas. For how hyped up the coffee was though, I expected way, way better. I had two things. The first was a regular drip coffee. It was watery and lacked any real flavor. I also had a latte, the drink that I judge many coffee shops by. It was … well. It was steamed milk on top of lackluster espresso. My roommate bought two bags of beans, because we had tried Huckleberry at Crema and were very pleased. We brought them home, and each time I’ve tried some through a conventional coffee pot brewing system, it tastes dull. And, adjusting ratios hasn’t done much to help. In french press, though, the brightness of the beans is brought out and it has a good flavor. Unfortunately I think something in the roasting process disagrees with my system, as I’ve gotten consistently sick after drinking this coffee each time. But I think that’s just me. My advice is to get the beans on your own and brew them with a french press if you want good flavor.

A low-key coffee shop that gives you an ambient feeling when you walked in the door. I went on a rainy day and needed to work on my papers. Don’t know if it’s the coffee or because I was sitting at the garage door facing the street, i can’t stop the flowing coming. Great place to work/study especially for writers. Their blue orchid is great but not as dark as I wanted while the phantom is a brighter, floral blend. Lucky me I went during the time they got the pumpkin spice!

In a word, solid. A great neighborhood coffee shop, but probably not a destination coffee shop — at least not for me. I had an espresso with their Blue Orchid roast. A solid 4+ star espresso with Sweet Bloom setting the 5-star standard. Served with mineral water — essential and appreciated! I appreciate that they have two beans in the hopper providing choice of espresso flavor. I prefer the brighter, citrus notes. The Blue Orchid bean was complex and bright. That makes me happy even if it wasn’t quite the best I’ve ever had. The ambiance is hip and a good mix in the crowd. Several young kinds with parents came in as well as people on computers working and studying. There are also people hanging out and chatting. This is what I like — a good mix of people being productive and people hanging out. I also love that they have a garage-door roll up for an open air feel on warmer days. I had a light jacket, and I’m glad I did. With it I was perfectly comfortable. My big complaint is the décor is… confused. The feng shui of the space isn’t bad, but it isn’t settled. The blue school chairs aren’t my style, and all the stools have an uncomfortable slant in the seat. The art on the wall is… Hippy and abstract, but mostly… Odd but not odd enough to be interestingly odd. Other parts of the décor is modern and clean. If hippy/abstract/schoolroom/modern/clean does it for you, this is your place. Work: the wifi is good if you can get it to work: 25mbits down and 12 up. I had to hack the DNS settings(using googles free DNS: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4), but other patrons seemed to have no problems. There is plenty of power outlets and seating.

This is, by far, my favorite local coffee place in Denver. It’s al very close to our house and we make it an occasional Sunday morning walk just to get their beautiful lattes. The coffee is strong and smooth, just perfect. The murals inside are lovely and it’s a beautiful atmosphere. We will continue to support this beautiful little coffee shop. Keep up the great work!

This location is a bit lonesome on Pecos but has some patio seating and I love their coffee! The location on Larimar is more lively but either way, probably my favorite coffee shop in the city which is saying a lot because there are tons of great coffee shops in the city!

I was in the neighborhood at an elementary school and needed a place to stop over to get a bit more work done before heading home. Fellow colleagues suggested Huckleberry Roasters, just a few blocks down the road. Why not? There were a few tables outside, but on the 95 degree day, we opted for indoor seating. The four of us each ordered an iced drink(latte, coffee, americano, etc) and sat down to work. We had no problem finding a place to sit, and someone was doing a coffee tasting right behind us. Smelled delicious! Four stars because the barista definitely wasn’t the most friendly person on the block. They also do not have a wide variety on the menu – they specialize and do it well. That was obvious. That said, I know one of my girlfriends would have liked some additional flavor options. I’ll definitely keep it on my short list of places when I’m in the neighborhood!

Had some time to kill this morning on the Sunnyside of town and stopped in to Huckleberry Roasters just after 7am.(Glad I didn’t get there any earlier as 7 is when they open during the week. Strangely late for a coffee place, no?) Got a plain cup of coffee and while I find a lot of fancy/independent coffee shops focus too much on the lattes and cappuccinos to the detriment of basic black, this was not the case at Huckleberry! The coffee was delicious and the staff friendly. I also got a delicious blueberry scone. Definitely worth the $ 3+/-. Hope to make it back here or their 2nd location on Larimer soon!

Huckleberry has word of mouth reverence in the industry My first 2 days in Denver I found Huckleberry on pecos street. One of the only coffee locations with parking and street parking. Detracting from the norm of businesses, Huckleberry is integrated in the neighborhood. Where there are single family homes, and I would bet all the neighbors know the staff by name. I started talking coffee with a guy on the side of the bar, which turned out to be Cohen the co-owner of Huckleberry. He was very informative and knew specialty roasting and coffee culture. Huckleberry is in the thick of specialty coffee roasting and developing peoples tastes. The options of Aero press, pour over and drip was a great detraction from coffee shops which do not offer options. Taking a look at the beans before trying them, all of them were perfectly roasted. And not over roasted to those unenlightened coffee drinkers on Unilocal, that means the beans are not burned. If want a double espresso ask for it, but dont detract from the work that huckleberry is doing and providing quality specialty coffee and world class coffee roasting techniques. If you are on vacation and looking for the best coffee in America next to Caffe Amouri Vienna VA. Huckleberry Denver is the best coffee in all of Colorado comparred to the 6 other roasters I have tried. Please take a listen to the podcast which I did on Huckleberry and Pangea roasters:

Perhaps tied with Black Eye for my favorite coffee shop in Denver. The coffee here is only the beginning, really. The pastries are delicious(that oat bar tho), the staff is consistently kind and quick. The atmosphere is the best of any coffee shop in Denver, with a dog-friendly patio, cozy bar-style window seating and plenty of large tables for those with computers. Just cannot be beat.

Huckleberry Roasters was one of the only places open on 4th of July. We drove around to several different coffee shops and were relieved to find Huckleberry open! Unfortunately the coffee was just okay. The iced vanilla latte was extremely milky. I couldn’t taste any espresso. Our baristas were extremely friendly and gave us great advice on what to do around town.

I enjoyed the cleanliness(both main area and restrooms), as everything was spotless. It seems more relaxed then your usual Starbucks, and it was quiet. I got an iced chai latte, which was disappointing because it tasted watered down and mostly like milk.

Coffee is quite subjective so it’s easy to see why reviews could be all over the place. Normally, it comes does to the ambiance on normalizing the reviews. For me, if you specialize in coffee and I’m paying a premium then I expect it to be great– no exceptions. My friend and I both got different types of coffee and both of us could take it or leave it. In my case, quite honestly, I sort of struggled through it. Some people described the interior as sterile. I have to agree with that assessment. In fact, we opted to go outside but the problem there is the location. It is on a busy street and if I am having a coffee I just want my peace and quiet and not cars constantly buzzing by. I really wanted to like this place but with so many other great spots around town this one just doesn’t live up to that standard.
