One of the best new restaurants in Denver! A must! We had the owner/chef prepare a 5 – 6 course meal and it was to die for! Hidden gem! Check it out!

This was our first time here and after eating here and, I honestly can’t believe this place wasn’t packed with a line out the door. The only reasons I can come up with is that the Android version of the Unilocal app had it listed as closed and it is a little on the expensive side. But the food is creatively thought out, locally sourced with a seasonal lean and expertly seasoned. The only issue we had was the 3 tined forks made it hard to get every last piece in your face! We made a last minute change to our plans for the night and so while my better half was showering, I made a reservation thru Open Table for the two of us at 8pm. Of course the time just slipped away and so we had to call and adjust our arrival time. The hostess was very accommodating and when we arrived around 8:30 we were seated right away. The bar area had maybe 6 or 8 couples at tables and the rest of the place was almost empty. We declined to be sat in the bar area(we both travel for work and always seem to sit in the bar) and the hostess took us to the back of the house and we got a table next to the kitchen. They have a big long window along the kitchen so our seats were like having a chef’s table without the heat. Now on to the food. We started with the Buratta appetizer. Its like a better version of the traditional Caprese salad. Served with heirloom tomatoes, white anchovies, frisee and focaccia croutons. Those of you that are thinking eww anchovies. Stop, cause I thought the same thing, but they were super fresh and clean and only brightened up the flavor of the dish. Next we ordered the Garden salad to share and the Caper vinaigrette was amazing. The capers are fresh, not pickled and super salty like you may be used to. The cucumbers, radishes and carrots were sliced super thin and tasted like they were right out of the garden. For our entrée’s the fiancée’ chose the Potato Gnocchi with Pesto Sauce and I decided on the Lasagnette Bolognese. The Gnocchi was airy and smooth and the pesto was the perfect compliment(again with the fork issue). I can honestly say this was the best Gnocchi I have had in Denver and I only got a small bite or two since it was too good to share! It was fresh, clean and layered with flavors! The Lasagnette Bolognese is based around a twelve hour braised Boar Sugo that simply melts in your mouth. The wild boar gave it a earthy essence that was simply the best compliment to al dente pasta. When the entrée’s arrived, this was not what I was I was expecting. When you think lasagna, you almost immediately envision a dish covered in cheese. This was a pleasant surprise in that it was loosely deconstructed, and had no visible cheese. This was at first kind of a let down because I love me some cheese, but after the first bite, I had to let that go because it was just too tasty. I would suggest to add a small piece of the buratta on top since its the kind of cheese that isn’t going to take away from the flavor of the braised boar. Next time I will just ask for it to be added. For dessert she chose the Berry Tart served with Strawberry Ice Cream, and I had to go with my heart and chose the Chocolate Bread Pudding. I have no idea how the tart tasted because I was too engulfed in the perfection of the Bread Pudding. It was covered in a chocolate ganache and served with a perfectly sized sauce that complimented the flavor of the dark chocolate. We finished off with cappuccino’s and very large smiles on our faces. All total with a couple of glasses of wine and a properly concocted Moscow Mule it was just over 95.00 without tip. This is why I mentioned it may be a little expensive because once we added the well deserved 20+% tip it was around $ 130 total. It was however worth every single penny and we will definitely be back. Maybe even as our Rehearsal dinner location next July. Hint hint management. ;)

OMG. It feels amazing, it tastes amazing it IS amazing. We’ve had 4 items so far, almost difficult to share as you want each bite for yourself. I don’t remember the last time I WAS a clean plater. For each PLATE. Oh how is there NO wait? Staff has also been super wonderful, front row parking… I think I should play the lotto!!!

Their heirloom tomatoes and arugula pizza is out of this world. They use very high quality ingredient and know how to prepare them. And IPA was only $ 5! Desert was also excellent, tons of flavors with low sugar. Service is outstanding as well! I am a big fan of this place.

Ohhhhh what a lovely place. We really enjoyed our time here. Sadly we were trying to get a quick meal in, so next time I plan to spend a leisurely evening really savoring our meal because it was such a shame to rush it! The biggest standouts in my mind included this unbelievable pizza, that had pork-braised kale and sausage… it was sublime. The carrot salad, because it’s almost identical to one my mother made and is super nostalgic. The wild mushroom gnocchi was so luscious and wonderful, we nearly licked the bowl clean. The beef carpaccio was so perfectly executed, so beautifully presented, I wanted to close my eyes and hum while I ate it… this is northern Italian food as it was meant to be. The only downside was that service took a long time(probably magnified by the hurry we were in) and the place was HOT, HOT(probably due to the wood-fired oven). The prices are high for the serving sizes, but all those downsides only amount to a one star discount, to me… the food is that amazing. Yummy!

By far the best Italian dinner I’ve had in Denver this far! This place is just amazing all around. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is casual and contemporary, and the prices are decent. The wine list is perfectly matched to the menu with options galore on both. Everything is just great, and we can’t recommend it enough.

Went there Sat night for 7:00 reservations and was sat promptly. Place was modestly full but emptied out quickly. Good atmosphere; a touch above your typical neighborhood family Italian joint but not so pertinacious as to be another ‘stale corporate– higher– end –swanky motif’ style of Italian that so many restaurants have become. Service was exceptional throughout the whole night. Definitely no improvement needed there. The food on the other hand, while tasty, was confused. Several of the offerings one has to wonder what the chef was going for here. Beef Carpaccio with an overabundance of blue cheese as an example or the Wild mushroom Gnocchi with the Parmesan Foam as another instance of hmmm… ok, good but not very Italian. Desserts and side dishes are hampered by poor selection, small portions and poor taste. Last note on the food is that the menu is set up to get maximum dollar by charging for big $$ for the Large plates, which are the only plates that would actually be considered an entrée. Pasta plates are small but pricey. Thus, if you are actually hungry, just be mindful that two people are not going to be eating for less than $ 30 each. My total spent for two people with a few drinks(4), dessert, tip, etc was over $ 200 All in all, I would go again but I just wouldn’t rush back.

Gallo Di Nero(Italian for«Black Rooster»), is a promising Tuscan fine dining spot in the Golden Triangle area. Had the lamb entrée not been tough and not particularly tasteful, what rated as 3 stars would have been pushing 5. But, unfortunately, the lamb was billed by the sweet and efficient server as absolutely the best thing on the menu, so the disappointment of a mediocre, at best, main course, that was pretty pricey, affected the quality of the whole experience. That said, I gotta tell you that they made one of the most delicious(appy) pizzas I’ve had in Denver: Like a coal-fired melt in your mouth exquisite taste bomb. Ummmm. Ummmm. Will go back simply to have one of those, and give their entrees another chance. So ciao, e buona fortuna, Gallo Di Nero, Davide Emma

Lots of potential, but it seemed the team actually making our food did so with a heavy hand, or perhaps the winter comfort food was a little too comfortable. Everything was extremely rich and sometimes(as you may find in any Italian resident), less is more. The wild mushroom pizza was so over«cheesed» that it was literally wet with oil. I may be back for another try since the concept is solid, and maybe they were just having an off night, but fool me twice and…

This place is a good find. I don’t think it’ll ever be a «4 week wait for a reservation» kind of place, but good, nevertheless. We made reservations on a Friday night. Turns out that we wouldn’t have needed them because there were plenty of tables available. The service was excellent. We were seated right away and our server was very attentive. We ordered the Artisanal Cheese to start. This was very good, although I will admit that the goat cheese was a little strong for my liking. I ordered the white asparagus risotto and my fiancé ordered the sausage and kale pizza. Both were good, but not great, you know? Not the kind of meal that I HAVETO order again. I have to say that I vastly prefer Root Down’s butternut squash risotto, but this was still good. My fiancé was happy with his sausage and kale pizza, but it was incredibly greasy. Tons of grease dripped off each slice as he picked it up. For dessert, we ordered the pear and almond crostata. This was just okay for me, although the cinnamon ice cream was delicious. I honestly have to say, though, that I prefer my plain old homemade apple pie. Overall, it was good. Just not outstanding. We’ll be back if we’re ever looking for a good meal at the last minute.

My dining out group tried this place last night and it was a big hit! We started with a mushroom pizza and several salads to share. All were yummy– especially the Bibb lettuce salad. Whole leaves perfectly coated with creamy, buttermilk dressing and generous amounts of blue cheese and walnuts making it rich, yet light and refreshing at the same time. For our main course, three of us shared the Wood Fired Ribeye. The menu says it’s for 2 but, our server told us it was 40oz(!), suggested it would feed 3 – 4 and it was perfect for our 3. Amazing flavor with a fabulous crust on the outside although, a little rare for the medium temp we ordered. To remedy this, I ate the end pieces which also had more of the fantastic crust so, bonus for me! The Pork Braised Kale and Roasted Mushrooms for my sides were ok but, the greens were a little more cooked than I prefer and the mushrooms didn’t have much of a roasted flavor to me. I shared the Chocolate Tiramisu with a friend for dessert and, while it was good, it didn’t have anymore chocolate than your usual tiramisu so I’m not sure about the name. It was also mostly mascarpone cream with only one layer of ladyfingers, although they garnished with 2 ladyfingers(one of which had an end dipped in chocolate, maybe that explains the name?). I personally don’t want dry ladyfingers stuck in the top, I want them soaked in espresso, and possibly a little liqueur! The favorite of the table for dessert, though, was definitely the Brioche Bread Pudding. The butterscotch ice cream melting over the crunchy top and the warm, soft center had my husband unable to utter anything more than«oh. my… god». The place was a little warm, either due to the wood fire or they cranked the heat because of the snow outside, I’m not sure. But, the service was very attentive and the bill fairly reasonable at just under $ 100 per couple with tip. I highly recommend you go check out Gallo di Nero!

We have season tickets to Curious Theatre, so always looking for good places to eat nearby. Gallo di Nero is our new favorite! Warm, comfortable ambiance. Server, Celeste, was cheerful, knowledgeable, and attentive. I enjoyed the White Lady martini — clearly prepared with care and panache. We started with a delectable Wood Fired Acorn Squash salad, and each had a pasta dish. My White Asparagus Risoto was sublime. The desserts were also amazing. Can’t wait to go back; lunch menu looks great, too and the patio will be nice in warmer weather.

Gallo di Nero is apparently Italian for«absolutely amazing meal that’ll take forever to get.» My girlfriend and I did a double date w/some good friends here the other week and it was great. The place is very affordable. We all shared a couple of drinks, few apps, some pizza, and a few entrees for ~$ 30 a person. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is the service. Our waitress took nearly 40 minutes to take all our orders and it took nearly an hour and 30 minutes to get our food. We were starving and she didn’t apologize and just gave us an extra basket of their bread. Besides that, everything was great.

This place is legit. Excellent food, drink selection, and staff! The only downside to this place is that my boyfriend can’t contain himself with the menu and we end up eating a four course meal. Luckily the place is very affordable for the quality. They also make you feel all fancy, with an amuse bouche to start and a homemade macaroon to finish. Did I mention the quality for the price?! You could get out of there for under $ 40, or eat like royalty for under $ 100. And tasty, local, seasonal food at that! We’ve been there twice now since the relaunch, and both times were fantastic. Lastly, a shout out to our lovely waitress/in house pastry chef– very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. What a place!

We really enjoyed the imaginative spin on chicken soup. Broth based… of course. But instead of noodles, it had dumplings. Constantly on the hunt for quality, not quantity. Sometimes restaurants overdo the small plates thing. In the end one doesn’t want to end up with a $ 60 bill per person after consuming portions, that do not cover the surface a saucer. Not the case with Gallo di Nero. The portions are most reasonable and a fascinating combination of flavors. Kind of a win/win. My only complaints: Nice to see the kitchen in full view. But I don’t want to see the staff tossing about cleaning rags while cooking is in progress. Vents could use some cleaning. I think it’s a hit. Both times we’ve visited, it was nearly full. It feels good to support a local, non-chain restaurateur. Let me know what you think. I see many folks gave them 5 stars. No shame in a solid 4 star.

Fantastic out of the way place with fresh from-scratch food. Next time you think about heading down the sixteenth street mall for lunch or dinner, head the other direction and try this place. Same distance but way better food and atmosphere than you will find along the beaten path. one of the best kept secrets I’d the Denver dining scene.

This place is fantastic! The food is delightfully seasoned and creatively prepared. Have gone here for lunch twice, and plan to go back for dinner, many times, and with lots of friends. They are fairly new on the scene, and they need to be discovered.
