The East Side Kosher deli has this new special called kosher night. I’m a big sushi fan. Since the Scheibers left they have other delicious food. Even the new kosher eggs are wonderful the ambience music is gone but the food is wonderful if you like kosher food.

I am revising my review because of the new ownership. The food quality has really taken a step up and the service is great now. The previous owners were lovely but I am so happy to have some fresh ideas in the community. I don’t fear when someone suggests eating there for lunch anymore. I really hope this new owner does some upgrades to the facilities. It could really use a facelift! But, in the meantime, kol hakavod for taking this on!

Let me start off by saying I have eaten at Jewish deli’s all over the USA. I am qualifying myself as a Jewish deli critique for this review and I hope you take it to heart. My experience is as follows… I walk into a grocery store and in the back lies the tacky decorated restaurant. The chicken noodle soup was horrible and they brought out chips and salsa for a free appetizer? Are you serious? Chips and salsa at a Jewish deli? Are we in Mexico? Umm no. I ordered a corn beef sandwich and it comes out cold and it tasted like crap. I got up and left. This place SUCKS

I’m not Kosher. I’m not even Jewish, but me and the Hubs like a good Jewish deli(he’s half-Jewish, tho). We stopped at ESKD for lunch one day when we were visiting the area. The restaurant is located at the back of the market. When we first went back there, I almost changed my mind about eating there. For starters, there were only about three tables of diners. And it was very quiet — no ambient music or anything. There is also little to no décor. OK, one reviewer says you might not like this place if you’re pretentious(or maybe high-maintenance, in my case!). I’ll eat almost anywhere as long as the food is good, but a little ambiance would go a long way folks. Anyway, we perused the menu and we both ordered pastrami on seeded rye, as well as a cup of chicken noodle soup. Both were pretty good, not ‘life-changing’ good, but good. I prefer a different style of pastrami(not the extra lean variety), but this was fine. I was a bit confused that the sandwich came with lettuce, tomato, and onion on the side. Never had that on a pastrami sandwich, but whatever. Our server was very nice and the food came out in a reasonable time frame. Prices seemed comparable to other delis I’ve eaten at. I might be inclined to eat here again.

Wonderful! I’ve lived in the area since last September. My first dinner out with friends was at ESKD. I was really happy with everything ESPECIALLY the wait staff. Sergio is the best! His crew is crazy busy most of the time, and I promise they bust their tails in there, but rarely do they not have time for a smile or an engaging moment to make you feel like part of the family… If your used to high end and status and your a bit pretentious, this may not be the place for you… BUT if you want to be a regular at a place that takes only a visit or two before you feel like part of the family, and you need a waiter that reminds you of the crazy uncle we all love… Then by all means, please come and be a part of the action going on in there. Ask if the shawarma is fresh, and if they tell you it’s spectacular then you’re in for a treat… Fajitas more your thing? You won’t find better! And if your wondering about the whole kosher experience? This is where you want to experience it. If I fall short of five stars… Well, the Jew is strong with me… It could be a tiny bit less expensive, and a time or two we waited just a little too long for the bill… But there are far worse places to spend too much time. Don’t be shy! Go get you a kosher fajita tonight!!! And ask for the GOOD salsa if you like it a little spicy!

I ordered food from them for our seder. It arrived later than they promised but well before our meal. The order was incorrect. I called the restaurant and they were extremely courteous. The owner immediately had the corrected order sent to us. Add on to that, the food was very good. We enjoyed it as much as much as most of the home cooked family seders we’ve had.

This review is of East Side Kosher Deli as a place to order kosher food to be shipped. The deli changed ownership recently, so I knew they might have a few bumps in their process, but they really messed me up on my Passover order and I must warn against using them(I certainly never will again). They weren’t able to send me the walnut oil I ordered, though they didn’t forget to charge me for the item. I never got any notification that my order had shipped at all, or a receipt so I would know how much they had charged me, though I asked for one. They didn’t let me know that they hadn’t sent the walnut oil, so that I would have had time to order from somewhere else before Passover. When the box arrived without the walnut oil(and with an annoying substitution of sweet cherries for sour cherries I ordered), and I contacted them to complain, the new owner said, I quote, «I would have thought someone would have called you.» They agreed to ship me some grapeseed oil, but«didn’t check their email» in time to see that I asked for quick shipping. I am left making cakes with whatever oil I can find around here. My Passover baking is pretty much ruined and I will never use them again.

This place leaves me wanting more. I wish they made their own rugalah. The selection isn’t all that great.

Came here for the kosher sushi night and was not dissapointed, I don’t live in Denver so I won’t comment on the price of the grocery goods but I base my review on the experience I had with the Sushi which given the context of a kosher restaurant behind a market I’d say was pretty damn good.

Totally unprofessional and impossible to work with. Had to call for an invoice multiple times because Marci never sent it, never delivered breakfast for a client and when called to ask them what happened was told«oops lost track of time», can never get anyone on the phone to confirm orders. It’s a never ending battle with this place and it’s sad that they just don’t even seem to care. Would never personally use and would never recommend professionally. Ever.

I always try to find a kosher restaurant while traveling. This place is great. Coming from the NYC area, I have high expectations of deli. The portions are large and delicious. The service is good. The waitstaff was attentive and had good suggestions for dinner. I also enjoyed browsing the grocery after dinner. So glad I found this deli!

Terrible customer service — I will never go back. I called ahead to see if East Side Kosher deli had belly lox(extra salty) and the man on the phone said they did and I should stop in. When I got there, they did not have the product at the deli counter. The woman at the counter looked around helplessly and when I found a manager and asked about the product, he looked at his watch and said«Why am I still here?» as if his shift was over and he should have been off work. The rudeness of the manager was striking and I will never return to East Side Kosher deli.

I moved to Denver a little over 2 years ago. Part of the reason I moved here was to be around more Jewish things. I was born in Israel, grew up in New York but then lived in Texas for 18 years. You’re lucky if you can even find a bagel in Texas. So when I found East Side Kosher Deli here in Denver I was so excited. I could find stuff from my childhood and from my youth in Israel. Bisli, Bamba, Krembo, just amazing stuff that brought back a flood of memories. They have a full grocery store, a Deli and a restaurant. They have a lot of stuff my mom would make and things I haven’t eaten in years. I was stoked. But then the first negative which everyone else seems to comment on, the prices. Their prices are outrageous. Some things are just unreal, $ 13 for a quart of Israeli Salad… it’s $ 3 in vegetables. Things like that. But still, for the nostalgia I’ve been shopping there, like I did today. $ 40 for a half dozen items. I’ve always found the people there friendly and helpful. Marcy Schreiber, the wife of the husband and wife team that own the place is wonderful to deal with. She’s super helpful, attentive and always answers my silly questions. I’m not orthodox, and I didn’t grow up in a religious household. I wasn’t even given a bar mitzvah. A lot of the stuff I know I’ve had to teach myself. I’m learning about my heritage all the time. So I ask a lot of questions. That brings me to Marcy’s husband, Michael. Every interaction I’ve ever had with Michael has been curt at best. He always comes off like you annoy him if you ask him any questions. He makes it out all the time like you bother him. Over a year ago I brought him a product my mother’s friend had sent her from Israel and I asked him if he could get it. I thought I would surprise her with a case if he could. I brought him the packaging and his response was«If I have time I’ll see, but it’s not going to be any time soon.» I gave him a business card and the package, have never heard back. Still, I primarily deal with Marcy and she’s wonderful. But Pesach is coming and they’re prepping their store for that. I know the basics of Passover, but I’m not well versed on all the nuances. I know no leaven and no vinegar stuff, and that’s what I know. Being a diabetic, I love their selection of sugar free candies. I noticed some where in the main store stock and the majority were in the back room which they close off during Passover. I wanted to know why some were OK and some weren’t but Marcy was on the phone. I saw Michael was stocking a shelf so I went and asked him. What a mistake. Talk about being a royal Jerk. He treated my like I was a complete idiot, repeatedly raising his voice as if I asked him a question about his personal life. Very unprofessional, unhelpful, disrespect, rude and disgusting in nature. He should not be allowed to talk to customers, and he definitely needs to do some davening. I’ve spent a lot of money at ESKD and many things I probably could have done without or gone elsewhere for. I drove there all the way from Lakewood many a times for a taste of home when I was homesick or missed my mom. I love to take my time and find new and old stuff. But after Michael treated me like a child, I was done with my shopping experience today, I just paid for what I had already picked and left. I recently moved to Aurora so I was closer to ESKD and was excited at the convenience. But I think after today, I’m just going to get my fix of Jewish stuff at the Cherry Creek King Soopers on Leetsdale for while. They have an ok selection, and I don’t have to put money in that putz’s pocket. If you go to ESKD and you have questions, comments or concerns, avoid Michael Schreiber like the plague, because his attitude is actually that infectious. Find Marcy, or do without.

My wife and I are Muslim and eat only halal meat. Our laws allow for eating kosher though so we decided to try out East Side. They have a very good selection of deli meats, but I have to agree with the other posters that prices are quite high. On the first occasion the place was quite empty, and staff was friendly. We went there one more time, but this time there were a lot of patrons there. the man behind the meat counter was not friendly at all, and in fact a bit hostile. Definitely did not make us feel welcome. I hope we can set aside politics one day and come together as human beings. This was one of the reasons I wanted to give them business– we are all part of the Abrahamic family! Will return one day, hopefully to friendlier people.

This was my second time dining. The first time wasn’t very good but we thought we give it another try. My partner and I stopped in for an early lunch. We were the only people in the place. It took forever to get waited on. We finally place our order. I had ordered the fish and chips. It was awful. My partner ordered lox and bagels and it was just mediocre. About 15 minutes later the waitress brought us our check. I told the waitress that the fish was bad. She said that we should’ve mentioned it to her earlier. I told her that no one came by to check on us after we were served. So she took the fish off of the bill but he had the nerve to charge me for french fries. Do yourself a favor and go to Zaidy’s. They’re just down the street. The food is consistently great. The staff is friendly at Zaidy’s and they want your business.

Seriously this grocery store is not one I like to frequent. Most times they are not very nice although this time I will admit everyone working there was nice and helpful. The biggest problem is it is the only kosher store at least on this side of town. They have the market cornered. I could tell stories but I won’t go into that now. I wrote a tip on Unilocal and I will just say every time I think about the sign that says we are cheaper than any other grocery store in town makes me mad. It is the most expensive one especially during Passover. Really a brisket for 100.00. My friend paid 150.00. My husband like the pickles from Israel there and that is why we go. We sometimes find them other places usually not the specific ones he likes however. It is still a fun store to see foods that you might not find in Denver. I am so happy we do not keep Kosher. I think it would be worth going out of town to do my shopping.

Spent 5 days in Denver and ate every day at the Eastside Kosher Deli. The ambiance isn’t great(the restaurant is at the back of the market) but the service is good and the food is standard Israeli/American Fare. On Sunday night there is a chinese buffet that is the standard American/Chinese stuff. While the service is great, the food is modest, but the prices are excellent. When in Denver, I’d be going back to this place again and again(not like i really have a choice).

Having been here once during my Judaism class in undergrad(hey, I needed an easy class, and what better than Judaism for a Jew?), when my Orthodox, glat kosher cousin from Israel was in town, the East Side deli was on the list of… well, the only restaurant in town I could go to. Now, the grocery side is EPIC. Despite having a good deal of kosher items at home from the local King Soopers, I stocked up on a chocolate babka(where else can you get one outside of NY and FL?), my cousin got little bags of popcorn for the movies, and I invested in Apples to Apples — the Jewish Edition. I’m sure it’ll be fun at many debuacherous parties to come. They had a pretty good selection… although it took us more than 15 minutes to find someone to check us out. Two couples and one family actually left after waiting more than 10 minutes. As far as the restaurant, they have a pretty impressively diverse menu, and we happened to attend on sushi night. Surprisingly to me, the vegetarian sushi I had was actually tasty, and my cousin enjoyed his smothered chicken burrito… but keep in mind he’s never eaten REAL Mexican food, so I’m not sure how much that says. My sun dried tomato bisque was ok, and while a got a potato knish instead of the mushroom one I had ordered, it wasn’t shabby(although I prefer the knishes at the NY Deli News). However, my potato kugel was incredibly dry and a little too eggy tasting. I was sad they were out of the stuffed eggplant, which is what I had wanted to order. The service is quite slow — it seemed like there was only one or two serves, one expediter and one busser for the whole place. That being said, our server Sergio was AWESOME. As in he made the experience less frustrating, more fun, and was definitely my highlight of the trip(although he might tie with Apples to Apples). I hope he loves his work, because he really is fabulous. I might be back for babka, but probably won’t have dinner here again unless I’m visited by another kosher friend/family member.

I have been to «The Deli» many times. It is the only full service Kosher meat restaurant in town, which makes it a monopoly for those of us who keep Kosher. The food quality is acceptable. If you are looking for Jewish themed dishes, such as the mazzoh ball soup or a deli sandwich, you will get a wonderful meal. They are also good at the simple things like a burger and fries. However, the foreign style meals leave something to be desired. If it were for the food alone, I would go quite a bit more often. The reason I rarely make my way to the deli: the service. I have left before after sitting for fifteen minutes without being acknowledged by a waiter or waitress. With a small wait staff, you cannot afford to have rude waitresses(as I have dealt with many times in the past) if you want to keep your customers happy, or keep them at all. I believe that another Kosher restaurant or two in town would force East Side to up their customer service, quality, and lower their prices. However, for now they are the only option in the status quo, so I will be back when I am ready to go out for a burger but don’t want to schlep all the way to New York or Israel for a good one.
