Oh DCM sorry to see you go. The Denver Community Museum has come to an end, there might be one more exhibit somewhere this summer but for right now this pop up museum has shown its last artifacts. This was a great museum, and well executed. Check out their website for info about the summer challenge and to get the book, when it is made. This whole project was about inspiration. Anyone can start a museum. Anyone can make something that is shown in a museum. thanks to Jaime for doing this project.

I love the idea behind this place. It’s an art museum where the community makes the art that hangs on the walls. What a brilliant way to get people involved and have them feel a sense of kinship with a museum. Every month there is a different«challenge» where you make any kind of art that represents the challenge. The one that is currently showing is about being mummified. Basically the concept was to mummify something that you would want to have around a long time in the future. I saw everything from stuffed animals to a Macbook. I think the next challenge has to do with the age 29. But, you can check the website for details. The museum exists on donations only so if you’re headed there bring a couple of bucks to throw in the jar. Also, it’s only going to be around for a year or so, so get there sooner rather than later.

DCM = RAD Jaime has done an incredible job with this little space in Riverfront Park. If you want a little dose of reality on your way over the bridge and into LODO, ditch the frigid mini-skirt and high-heels and stop by the DCM. This space has managed to creatively motivate everyone from the first grader with a peanut butter and jelly ring around his mouth to the out of work college graduate searching for life’s meaning(a la moi). The art ranges from the absurd to the profound, but best of all it doesn’t range anywhere outside of Denver. Being a member of the Denver community is requisite for participation, making it the most publicly inviting and engaging art venue in what can be an otherwise hoity toity artsy community. So get off your butt and join in the fun.
