In general the food is too sweet and muddled. Some of the flavors are ok but there is such excess of unnecessary and silly garnishes that the plates end up all tasting the same and looking very outdated. Raw peppers on pretty much everything(who uses raw peppers to garnish anymore?) That is soooo behind the times and it definitely not a part of traditional Brazilian cuisine. Service was good and very friendly.

We love going to Café Brazil! Tonight we both«cleaned our plates» which meant that we didn’t leave room for dessert… next time! The service and staff were excellent. I never needed to ask for a «top off» on my water. One of the specials tonight was a halibut with a macadamia pineapple sauce or salsa. It was delicious and a very generous portion. My husband is a creature of habit as he always orders the Feijoada Complete, Brazil’s National Dish with an extra side of collard greens. Absolutely great!

This place is amazing. Great staff, great food and they really make you feel like a special guest. This is a go to for date night. I’m surprised by all of the mediocre reviews because everything we have tried here has been terrific.

I came here because I saw the place features on Guy Fieri’s «Diners Drive-ins and Dives» and thought it would be a good place to go to since I was in town. I arrived at around 7:15 and the wait was around 30 minutes. There seemed to be a lot of tables open that weren’t being used and we still had to wait. After we ordered, it took around 2 hours for our food to come out. I wasn’t sure if their service was normally like that or if it was just because there was a party of 11 that was seated next to us. Our food took a long time to come out and when it did, it was very, very salty. My dad and I finished the food in about 10 – 15 minutes because we were so hungry, and we ended up leaving the restaurant at around 9:50. Other than that it was alright.

This was one of my best meals i have had in my life. So flavorful and delicious. We all unbuttoned our pants to finish the wine. Seriously amazing. I had one of the traditional dishes and my friends had others. So great

Now this is my kind of place! They open at 1700, we walk in at 1705 and not only are there a few tables occupied, but within 30 seconds, two employees have acknowledged us and told us they’d be right with us. I run to the bathroom and it has mood lighting ;) soft yellow lights. **YOUNEED A RESERVATION** We got lucky that we got there right as they opened so we got the only open table. I love plantains, you can call me a plantains connoisseur. Of course as soon as I saw them on the menu, I ordered them. Holy maduros! They come with cheese, I was seriously about to start balling, happy tears! Black bean soup was ok. I don’t like soup though so take that with a grain of salt. For dinner, they had a special, the server told us about the special and we went ahead and ordered that. Seafood with coconut curry: It had scallops, mussels, jumbo shrimp, and beef inside a coconut milk creamy sauce. It was delectable. I ordered the pork and shrimp deal. It was so sweet! ~Srsly I would eat here every single night if I lived closer. Everything was absolutely impeccable. I wanted to eat and dance at the same damn time!

Wow… just wow! I took my wife on a Friday night(without reservations) and we were still able to be seated right away. We got there just in time because the place filled up quick. Gabriel got us seated and walked us through the cocktail menu. They have the best mojitos ever! After that, Kevin explained the menu and specials and we decided to go with both of the specials. I got the seafood and my wife got the beef shoulder. It was amazing! Just go and thank me later.

Good god this place is delicious. I do not know much about Brazilian food but I can tell you this place is worth a try. Extremely flavorful but not for the faint of heart as most menu items have a kick to them. I deducted one star for the speed of service. Our server was wonderful but it took a while just to get menus and bread. Other than that the food and drinks are phenomenal. Definitely worth a try just don’t come starving!

We went back for our third dinner at Café Brazil. I mentioned to my husband that they have delivered such perfect dishes that there is no way they can do it consistently. We were wrong! Everything was cooked to perfection, and every bite was a delight. Service was pleasant. I don’t know how they do it, but they are doing something right!

What a goddam gem! We’ve eaten here twice and it’s been magic both times. Great Latin American atmosphere. Even though the name is Café«Brazil», they play music from other South American countries and they have traditional dishes from other countries. I feel like anything you get will be the bomb. This place gets an extra star(6 stars! Yeah!) for having sweet plantains. I’m a sucker for those so that’s a must as an appetizer. Come with an appetite because the dishes are HUGE! I eat a lot and both times I haven’t been able to finish my plate. And truthfully, you shouldn’t. Don’t get too crazy with a food coma and just take the rest to go for a delicious next day lunch ;) I got the Seafood Copacabana — it’s full of veggies! Delicious! And my boyfriend got Moqueca De Peixe. Would have never gone here if it weren’t for the«Dining Passport». And you know what, we bought ANOTHER passport just to eat there again. It was that good! This is not a cheap place so with the passport you’re saving $ 22 which is the average entrée.(Passport cost me $ 35, eat somewhere else and it’s been paid for: p)

All I can really say is: «Awesome!!» We came here for New Years Eve dinner. It was actually an accident. We had intended in going to another restaurant a block over. However, that restaurant was closed for the holiday night. So, we thought we would try Café Brazil. We are so happy we stumbled on it. The service was amazing! A very village style approach in that everyone serves. We never wanted for anything and everyone was super friendly, even on a holiday night. The appetizer was spicy, but very tasty. Both main dishes were exceptionally palatable. Desert was simple and agreeable. I only wish I could have had more!

The food and drinks are excellent. I would recommend Café Brazil for an excellent seafood entrée. But not a romantic/intimate space for dinner. The dining room is weird. It has a loud, somewhat uncomfortable feel.(Or maybe it was just our table next to the bar/kitchen walkway.) The service is ok. Not planning to return but glad we tried it!

This was our first visit and I can’t wait to go back again. We started with two suburb cocktails in the bar. One was the .-(dot dot dash) the name something I remembered the other escapes my memory. Both were handcrafted $ 12 cocktails and really good and unique. Our dinners were feijoda completa which was an amazing dish of black beans and rice and collared greens and these fried banana balls that I never thought would be good but completed the dish so well. The black beans had such a great smokey flavor they could stand alone as a meal. We also had the seafood copacabana with large shrimp(4) and two perfect large scallops. The rice with creamy coconut milk has perfectly cooked carrots, red peppers and zucchini. I don’t know which dish was better but glad we got to share. I think the highlight of the dinner was the two complimentary bean and cold yogurt soups before the main entrée. The yogurt soup was so complex and delicious, the bean was smoky and wonderful. I would easily pay for a full bowl of each instead of a small teaser palette cleanser! I am still thinking of this dinner a few hours later. It was like a Brazilian vacation night out in Denver!

The drinks are amazing. The food is incredible and very filling. The service great, never ran out of my drink =). Yes it may be a bit expensive but great for a special night out. I wish I had taken photos but I just wanted to dig in eat my deliciously looking plate. Not only is it very very good, but it is also very pretty. I ordered their«traditional plate» and not only did it look and smell great, but the server even told me a really good way to eat it. «Move the oranges off to the side and then dump your bean stew onto your plate and mix it all around.» An amazing tip.

We’ve been here twice now and each time was a delight. Great service– they always made you feel right at home! Both times, I was with a group of 6, and the server was very smooth and patient with all of us. I’ve tried a couple of dishes and sampled some of my other guests’ food, and everything was very tasy! You can’t go wrong with trying new dishes. There is this class of dessert called semifreddo– and it is pretty much a thick ‘unmeltable’ ice cream. If you enjoy a rich dessert, don’t miss out on this one. Generous portions too. I can’t wait to go back!

I recently moved to the Berkeley area and this is my new favorite place to go out when we feel like treating ourselves. Café Brazil is a very unique restaurant, when you go in you feel like you are being guided through a dining experience rather than just getting a quick bite to eat. They have delicious authentic Brazilian drinks, but beware the caipirinha and authentic rum drinks are mightily strong — if you aren’t a liquor drinker like me you’ll be leaving with quite a nice buzz from just one of these. Now onto the food, the appetizers are to die for. My all time favorite is the fried manchego cheese, it comes with this green sauce that goes perfectly with the dish. This is the first Brazilian restaurant I have been to that has multiple options for vegetarians, which was greatly appreciated. I always get the vegetarian pasta dish made with tomato sauce, chiles and coconut milk. The sauce has this creamy pinkness to it that is fantastic, but it does have a kick to it so if you don’t like spicy food I would avoid. Last time we went here, our wonderful waiter even gave us a shot of some of the nicest rum which was an excellent surprise at the end of our meal. Staff are wonderful, the atmosphere is great, food is delicious, try it if you can there’s nothing bad to say about this restaurant.

What a fun night! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, festive décor. I can’t believe I haven’t been here for a few years and I will need to come back. I had their Brazilian Signature drink which I believe was called Caipirinha was fabulous and may be my new favorite over the Mojito. We ordered an appetizer which was a special so I don’t remember what it was called, but it was delishous(sweet potato fritter type balls with cheese and a spicy sauce). A signature black bean soup comes out before your entrée, the spice was nice, but a little salty for me. I ordered the Seafood Copacabana which was delishously spicy with a lot of flavor, the shrimp and scallops were cooked well. My husband ordered the Peixe de Angola and while it sounded simlar to mine on the menu it was served differently but also very delishous… I am a freak for food that has spiced up coconut milk. We just had a great time and I reminder that I need to come back here more often, it was such a pleasure to go to this neighborhood gem.

Came here for our 3 years. overall food was good. Lobed the shrimp balls and the coconut dish with shrimps and scallops. The pork dish was decent. All and all the food was good. The service was polite but just way too slow. It took 10 minutes before someone dropped off a menu, and another 10 before we ordered. It took us a little over 2 hours just to have dinner. Just a little bit long for a 2 course dinner.

Okay lets start at the end… the Pistachio ice cream(called something else) is to die for. It consists of two scoops of heavenly, creamy, think green yumminess that has a taste like hot fudge. Paired with stewed blueberries it is a taste-gasm not to be missed. We went back twice in one week with the primary goal of this dessert! Now for the calamari. Yum. No weirdness or anything creative, just thick, fresh, lightly breaded perfect calamari. The sauce is light and adds to the light coating. I have to dip into the perfect spice of the ‘salsa’ they bring in the beginning. Get this for sure. I’m sorry that i don’t know the names, but the salad with crab, shrimp and papaya vinegarette was fresh and so very tasty. Hard for me to choose the more traditional stew-style dishes after having this amazing salad. The coconut cream seafood dish on bottom of menu cannot be beat. Seriously. A perfect dinner for 2. A mojito – ask them to add berries. The calamari I mentioned above. The salad I mentioned above. The entrée I mentioned above. The dessert I mentioned above. The traditional dish is so-so. The yogurt soup that comes up with it is very very yummy. It will be hard to go on a date night somewhere else after you experience this! The waitstaff is very professional and courteous. 5-stars :)

Haven’t been in years(we moved away from CO) so just had to stop by when we found ourselves out in the northwest part of town on this visit. So glad we did! Stellar service, refreshing caipirinha, & outstanding meal. Featured app was bolinhas, little croquettes that tonight were made of sweet potato & had some serrano ham & tiger prawns in them. We tried to go a little lighter by ordering one salad and one regular entrée. The salad was great — greens with mango, avocado, grilled fish & pecans. Got my favorite Brazilian dish — moqueca de peixe & it didn’t disappoint. Flavorful but light coconut stew with scallops, fish & shrimp over rice. Then made the mistake of «can’t hurt to hear about the desserts,» so couldn’t resist the chocolate semifreddo. Laced with hazelnuts & just a hint of liqueurs, it was like frozen nutella. So much for light! But it sure was good. Happy happy tummy.

We had a wonderful dinner — black bean soup, yogurt soup, feijoada complete(Brazil’s national dish), cazuela Columbians, and a sweet /savory bread basket. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was colorful and lively. Though it was a packed house, you could still carry on a conversation. Highly recommended.

Really love this place. It’s humble, yet delicious. Make a reservation and you will not have a problem with a wait. Try a Brazilian cocktail and prepare to take some dinner home! Meals come with bread and black bean soup(just a taste, don’t expect a filling bowl… you have dinner coming after all!) The waitstaff can sometimes be a bit flaky and require a wave when you need something, but for me this does not influence the deliciousness of the food. Will definitely be back!

I sat there after dinner trying to think of any reason not to give this place five stars. I don’t like to give five stars unless everything is perfect and my conclusion was exactly that. My experience started at the bar where I sat while waiting for my friend. The bartender was engaging and flexible and creative in his drinks. And not only that, he nailed the drink on the money, too. As soon as my friend came they sat us immediately. The waiter stopped by to make sure we had drinks and explained a couple specials. I heard the Xim Xim was very good so I went with it. It’s a well seasoned dish of chicken breast and jumbo prawns, prepared with a sauce of fresh ginger, malaqueta pepper, juice of lemon and lime, cashews and dende oil(or you could just read the menu!). I thought this was a really fantastic entrée– everything was prepared and seasoned well and the combination of spices really worked well together. My friend had the Angola and I had a bite and that was another really well prepared dish. The ambiance worked for me. I thought at first that it might be a little empty or not energetic but the night we were there is was really good. It’s more of a casual environment and the restaurant is sort of isolated for many things so you would think they might be a negative but I didn’t see it that way. In the end, I thought the food was so spectacular that there is no question I will come back. When you combine that with the service and the ambiance it is really a no-brainer.

If you are used to eating sushi or pancakes then this place is not for you. Subtlety is not on the menu. Food here is fearlessly bold. Black bean soup: hearty and salty. I dipped bread in it, which made the artisan bread taste even better. Xim xim: sweet. The prawns were seared flawlessly and chicken was tender. Had the prawns not been soaked in the dish, the sear would be even crispier. Batida: I found this strangely attractive. I had blackberry + kiwi and requested some ginger to be added. The resulting taste was a smoky drink that hid the sweetness of the fruits. My friend did not like it, but I loved it. And it was very strong, like how drinks should be.
