Awesome steak tacos, they are even better than the ones at Taco City in Dallas. They get your order ready in like 5 minutes! Great service and the staff is always nice and friendly, great prices as well!

Great place! Their tacos are delicious, and they always include a roasted jalapeño and half a small potato with your taco order. Go for the green sauce, it’s delicious! Tacos de pastor and asada are some of my favorites. Best place for street tacos.

I wanted authentic tacos and wanted to try the new Taqueria Monterrey(behind the QT). I searched the web for their hours and Google showed they were closed today(Sunday). Boo. I opened up Unilocal to doublecheck their hours and it showed open. Interesting. I then called the # listed on Unilocal several times over 10 mins to triplecheck and it was busy the entire time. Wtf. I then decided to drive there to quadruple check. –1 star for that inconvenience. Upon arrival, I was glad to find that they were open Sundays. Inside was clean and menu was brightly lit. I ordered nachos and 9 tacos for dining in(I brought my neice and nephew with me). It took 26 minutes to arrive(I looked at my phone when they brought our food minus receipt time). –0.5 star for the long wait for dine-in. I would expect to-go orders to take longer. Food was decent and presented nicer than most taquerias. My tacos came with a roasted jalapeño and half potato. Green and red sauce(chilled) available from the fridge near fountain drinks. +0.5 star for presentation, extras. We didnt finish everything so asked for 2 large to-go boxes which was nice for them to have(+0.5). I also ordered a horchata to-go and said no ice, so that it wouldnt be watered down during the drive home. I had one of the kids carry the horchata. When we got into the car, guess what? It had ice. Wtf. That was the only thing on the order and the young lady at the register got it wrong. –0.5 star. Overall, this is a nice taqueria and a welcome addition to the area. They could use some help with their online presence(incorrect hours, no website, no menus) and simply managing the business hours would help a lot of people. 3.5 stars overall to be more precise. Since I couldnt find any indication of their menu or correct hours, I have uploaded them for any others looking for them. De nada.

Good authentic street tacos. I love the carnitas and my husband gets the asada. We’ve never ordered a drink before because we’d grab it to go at the gas station location but we got one large drink and was charged $ 3.50. Drink prices weren’t posted so it was a bit of a shock. Won’t be doing that again… could’ve purchased two tacos for that price.

I had never eaten in a gas station convenience store before, but this little restaurant tucked off to the side was always busy so I decided to give it a try. Glad I did. Love their tacos. $ 1.75 ea. Be prepared to wait a little if they get really busy. It’s not a fast food drive in but well worth it.

I don’t live around here but found this place on a map search and decided to give it a try. My 2 co-workers and myself all agreed that the food was excellent! Very authentic, fresh, and flavorful. Prices were good and the food came out quick. I highly recommend this place.

In the interest of full disclosure, I only found out about this place because we sold a car to the owner. He was wearing a shirt with the shop’s name on it, though, and as my wife and I are street taco fanatics, we were excited when it was determined that we’d drive the car over to the shop to drop it off after the transaction. We filled up the tank for him, and in return he offered us some tacos to fill ours. Housed inside the Valero station on McKinney and Mayhill, we were immediately impressed by the size of the menu for such a small space. Besides street tacos, they have many platters including guisada, menudo, tortas, rajas… I think there were something like 13 platters to choose from. We had already eaten dinner – our automotive transaction being a happy but random accident that evening – and so had no real room for food. Still, I wanted to at least try the asada and lengua. He said he’d throw together a sampler, and ended up coming back with four tacos for each of us – an asada, lengua, pastor, and barbacoa. Still stuffed from dinner, I plowed ahead anyway. The barbacoa and asada were probably my favorite of the bunch, but of special note was the lengua, which was among the most tender and moist I’ve ever had. The plates came with grilled onions, a large roasted pepper, the ubiquitous lime wedges, and a pan-fried half of a very small potato, which was a nice touch. I also noticed a warmer by the register with slots for burritos, breakfast tacos, and other items for quick pickup. The salsas had really nice flavor, as did the store-made tortillas. I only gave a four because I’ve only eaten there once, and because I’m accounting for the bias that might creep in given how we found the place. The flavors were there, however, and certainly the passion, to be a five star venue, and I’ll probably come back and bump it up after eating there another time or two. The owner swelled with pride as he talked about the food and the family business, and I could tell that heart had translated into the food. McKinney is certainly the main strip for authentic Mexican food in this town, and I’ve sampled many of the shops on and off between the Loop and the Square. Taqueria Monterrey is more-than-worthy addition to Denton’s already awesome taco scene, and I hope it continues to thrive.
