My roommate and I decided to give this place a try. First thing I noticed when I walked in was that the prices had been raised since the photo of the menu I saw. We decided to stick it out because the staff seemed nice and the sandwiches sounded good. The place itself has a ton of character and had a really interesting environment in general. The sizzling steak subs we got ended up being delicious, but at $ 8 for the sandwich, I couldn’t get chips or a drink, being a struggling college student. I wasn’t full and had to go home and munch to fill up. With chips and a drink my roommate spent $ 12, which really hits the wallet hard. As we were leaving the woman who had brought us our food asked us how the sandwiches were and told us to bring our friends. We both wish we could come more but on our(and our friends’) budgets, we can’t really afford to spend $ 8+ and not be filled up. Perhaps if this place had more business the prices could be lower and I could come here regularly. If I could get that sandwich with chips and a drink for $ 7 – 8, I would probably make this place a regular of mine. As is, though, I really can’t see a way I can go back.

Hello, It was my first visit in to the sub shack, my wife and I drove by on a way to run an errand, so we decided to go there and try it out. We walked in and looked at the menu board and were welcomed and asked by the employee of we had been there before we said no and she went on to explain to us what the best food was, o ordered Turkey with ham hot with lots of mayo and it was so good I had to order another sandwich and took it home with me, i will return, try it out, you will go back.

I ordered the turkey and cheese sub and was impressed by the taste and speed. Ran over there before the A-train took me to Dallas. Was a little bit pricey but understandable.

I had the turkey and cheese. Absolutely delish! My husband had the steak sandwich and he lovvvvved it!!! The owners are fantastic and so sweet. Being from Texarkana, I appreciate good olé«hometown» feel places and this place is just that. Oh yeah, I had the cookie with pecan and caramel. OMG, so DELICIOUS!!! This place won’t disappoint!

Service was friendly and helpful. Steak was good… not gristly or chewy. Patio was nice. Would have liked a larger drink selection and the prices were a bit high.

Top notch steak subs with good friendly service in a old school atmosphere. I got the steak and bacon sub with jalapeños and it was delicious. Well priced. I’ll be back soon.

Captain Nemo’s aka Sub Shack is my new favorite sandwich shop! Definitely get the house special or any of their other steak subs. Fresh, hot and delicious, and if you get to know the staff they’re really great people. It apparently was around in the 80’s and the same owner has brought it back to denton. It has an old school and homelike feel to it and during the summer it will be great since they have a ton of outside seating. It’s in the old Hoochie’s location on Bell Ave, you can miss it if you’re not looking but you definitely don’t want to miss out on these sandwiches!

I was hesitant to come because of the reviews I read about the service, but I went because I had a free steak & cheese sandwich on an app. The cashier was a bit brash but she was friendly… maybe could have brushed up on her people skills though. The chef was very friendly and talked up the food a lot — it didn’t disappoint! The bread was soft and flaky, the meat was so flavorful and warm, and the lettuce and tomato on top was surprising good. There was a oil/vinegar mixture on top of the tomatoes which balanced the sandwich very nicely. Even though it was free, I would definitely come back and try other menu items.

I travel for a living and love a good sandwich. Good bread is key, the house steak and cheese here was great… Great bread the flavor of the meat, I will be going back. Oh in addition I have eaten at the CN in Irving and this is as good or better.

A throwback from earlier years that is really good. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the surly rude cashiers. There are two who work each day. Both must be family, otherwise a business wouldn’t put up with it. But when the special hits your lips, you forget about them.

Really good steak sub! Tons of flavor and the bread was nice and toasty(although some of the bread had gotten soggy by the time I was able to eat it… nothing that needs to be fixed as I had no problem devouring it quickly). Much better than a certain similarly named, but not related, place in Irving. Staff was super friendly and my to go lunch order was ready in no time. Indoor seating was very limited and décor was very old(like most places in Denton actually). I would definitely be back!

I had the house special and it was really tasty. I had intended on only eating half of it & saving the rest for later but I ate the whole thing lol. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because there isn’t much indoor seating but there is plenty outside. BYOB too!

We went at 11 a.m. a few Saturdays ago. No one greeted us as the person at the front was taking a phone order. The family in line in front of us decided they’d waited long enough to be acknowledged and walked out. We were close to following them when a second employee took our order. Ordering is clumsy and the charges aren’t well explained by the cashier. They also don’t do a good job explaining where the cups(some of which were dirty), drinks, and napkins are. When our order was delivered, the employee didn’t verify that our order was correct. The food was good, but expensive. The lack of indoor seating and customer service is a real letdown. I consider it a one-and-done experience.

Wow. took me back to my many visits in the 80’s Learned at returned and got there as fast as I could. Unfortunately I live in Dallas but will make a stop whenever I’m in Denton. Had the Steak sandwich and sat on the porch. The weather was cool and it was the perfect place to linger. My sandwich was yummy. unfortunately prices have increased but they have everywhere in the last 15 years. I was pleased. we visited a week after they opened and had none of the«service» problems in previous post

Tried captain nemo’s and was sadly very disappointing. Food quality is pretty Meh, nothing to write home about, more expensive than chain restaurant’s but not any tastier or fresher. The inside was pretty dirty but I came around lunch time so I can kind of understand and give them a break. My real issue was the service. The service was prompt, but awkward at best and rude at worst. The cashier asked unusual questions in a very condescending manner and even some inappropriate questions. None of then related to food or our orders, just bizarre chit chat that felt very uncomfortable. Three stars is pretty low for me, however my partner in reviewing felt 2 would have been more appropriate. Sorry capt nemo, I will not be back.

Read then denton rc article about this place and had to try it based off some rave reviews. Boy was I disappointed. I ordered a philly with grilled onions, mushroom, and cheese and received freezer isle quality meat, an underwhelming amount of cheese, and bland seasoning. The sandwich was gone in 5 bites and I was left with a hungry stomach and -$ 7 in my wallet. I’ll go back one more time to try a different sandwich, but my hopes aren’t high.
