Boy. … has this place gone downhill in the last couple of years. I vacation in Dennis every summer and used to eat here twice a week. Two years ago the place was almost empty and the menu was extremely limited. Gave it another shot last summer… no one took our order for a half an hour. The food I ordered, they were out of it. Second choice… Arrived without my potato and vegetable. Waited another 30 minutes. Horrible… never again!

I’m giving this 1 star because the atmosphere was nice. So disappointed with this place because it has been on my want to go list for years! Finally made reservation with another couple to celebrate our 28th year anniversary. Saturday October 10. The server Stephen was not friendly at all.(I am also a server) no personality. Food was cold and salmon was over cooked. Steak was something I could of purchase at the super market. Expecting, Gourmet meals for the prices you charge. The meals should be outstanding. We will not be recommending this place to any of our guest that rent our summer home in Dennis mass.

The Red Pheasant has been my special occasion restaurant when I’m on Cape. I’ve always made reservations and had three course meals with a bottle of wine from their outstanding cellar. Lately, I have been frequenting the bar and it is a great option when you don’t want to go so formal. Jake, the bartender, is very cordial and makes a great cocktail. At the bar, I can feel comfortable ordering an app or a small plate and get in & out quickly, even when the restaurant is busy.

This place has two listings, which I find odd, but I’ll post my review on both. My wife and I were both excited and hesitant to try this place. The menu had what seemed like an interesting variety but we had only heard mediocre reviews from friends. However, we decided that it seemed like the best option in the area that we were staying. When we arrived, there was no one at the hostess stand and the waiters/waitresses would pass by, look at us, and keep walking. About 10 minutes later, the hostess finally showed up and seated us. Our waitress took our drink order, came back to take our food order which we weren’t quite ready for — and then we didn’t see her for another 15 minutes. Keep in mind it was about 8:30pm on a Sunday and not very busy. When she finally came back, my wife had a question about how the special of linguini & clams was prepared — the waitress didn’t seem very knowledgable and just said, «it has lots of garlic.» My wife ended up ordering it anyway and I ordered the pork rib chop. When we received our food, we were pretty excited. The pork rib chop was a hearty size and my wife’s dish had a good serving of shelled clams. But the excitement stopped there. The first bite into my pork was so incredibly bland, I thought I had to be making it up. Without word, I had my wife try it and her feedback was exactly the same. The grits & swiss chard that accompanied my pork were also under seasoned. I’m not even sure that’s the proper term as everything seemed as if it hadn’t been seasoned at all. My wife’s linguini & clams, while it at least had been seasoned, had a funky week old seafood flavor and the clams were really gritty. Which, okay, I get happens, but every single one was full of sand. All in all — shame on us for not listening to our friends. From service to food, this place just does not match up to the reviews. I’m guessing the great reviews are either from locals or people who aren’t very concerned with the quality and execution of food. P. S. They charge the same amount for a Shirley temple as they do for a cocktail. Yeah. What? Okay.

My first time visiting this establishment was for their New Years Celebration. I made a 5pm reservation and when I arrived at 4:40pm I was asked to come back in about 15 minutes because they were not ready and they were still blowing up balloons. Keep in mind it was only 30 degrees outside so I had to retreat to my car and sit in there till 4:55pm with the engine running just to stay warm. I asked to sit at the bar and they said I couldn’t. I entered again and was told I was still early but they would seat me anyway. I asked for a fire place seat when I first made my reservation and I was sat the farthest from it. This was corrected by one of the hostesses. Apparently even though their board says Happy Hour from 4:30 — 6:00, they were not doing it. I was advised the original hostess making the reservations was sick and they were scrambling to correct special requests that were not originally written down. Our waiter was very nice and explained some of the dishes on the menu that day. I ordered the Torchon Of Domestic Foie Gras for my first course. The foie gras was still chilled so it was difficult to spread at first. The apple sauce and riesling gelee were overpowering and dulled the flavor of anything it was spread on. I had to stop using it because I couldn’t even taste the foie gras with the gelee on it. The Brioche bread was ok and personally I would have been replaced it with a crostini My second course was Field Blend Salad & Vine Ripoened Tomato. It came with a single large tomato and then greens. Salad was good but very lightly dressed to the point where you almost couldn’t taste it. There was more dressing on the plate than on the greens. My third course was the Roasted Rack Of Lamb Persillade. I asked for medium-rare on the cook and one piece was medium-rare and the other rare. Fortunately they were cooked so I didn’t mind as it was very tasty. The menu mentioned a Lamb Jus but I didn’t even notice it so they were very light when applying it. The swiss chard was flavorless with no seasoning. The single carrot was undercooked but tolerable. The au gratin potatoes consisted of 6 medium slices which I did not feel was proportionate to the rest of the place. My final course was a Tiramisu which was very creamy and overpowered with cocoa. If you sneezed into it the powder would get everywhere(obviously I wouldn’t recommend this). A light dusting is all that is needed to add some chocolate flavor. The slice of strawberry and whip cream were not needed in this dessert because they added no contrasting flavors. Overall they advertised a 5-star dinner but I would only give it 2-stars. The food was good but little seasoning and technical cooking errors prevent me from giving this place a 5-star rating. The waiter’s customer service was the only reason why this place got the 3-star because the dinner was a 2-star and the first impression when entering the establishment was obviously off putting.

One of the best two or three restaurants on the Cape! It’s more traditional food than(for example) Vers, but it has its offbeat features as well, especially in the first courses: try the kim-chee pierogies with miso drizzle(if you’re familiar with Korean kim-chee, FYI this is a much toned-down version); or the spinach salad, which came to life with addition of fregola, raisins(seemed more like cranberries), crisp-fried parsnip sticks, candied pecans, and«Shy Brothers cloumage dressing.»(fregola is a Sardinian pasta in tiny ball shapes; and cloumage is artisanal cheese curds with a slightly sharp flavor). Main courses were a little more traditional, yet each was outstanding and delicious: duck confit shepherd’s pie, and a beautifully roasted half duck, boneless, with a bit of scalloped potatoes and swiss chard. The cranberry/port wine sauce on the duck was very nice — not too sweet, and not too much quantity. A very tasty pear clafoutie completed the meal. Service was excellent; the building itself looks historic; the wine list is broad but rather pricey; it needs a larger selection of more moderate choices. We discovered Red Pheasant accidentally by driving by it and looking it up online late — it doesn’t seem very heavily advertised — but it should be on the list for any serious eater.

I love the Phez! The staff is super friendly. The atmosphere is very cozy and relaxing. The restaurant itself is charming and full of character with its antique décor. The food is amazing… I’ve never had a meal I haven’t LOVED! Highly recommended :)

Epic Fail I am a long time customer having dined at RP for over 22 years. Our family dined for special occasions over the years. Recently, I have enjoyed dinners in the cozy bar. My daughter and I craved raw bar and an intimate relaxed dinner. We chose Red Pheasant. I called Chef Bill to review the menu mid day and had plans to arrive 5:45. My daughter’s P-B Bus from Boston was late and so I called at 5:15 to ask about being served oysters. The lovely girl who answered the phone said she’d reserve two seats at the bar and confirmed if we ordered our oysters by 6, we’d be able to enjoy. We pulled into the lot at 6 and I ran in and met owner Denise asking to please put in our order. She said it was too late as it was 2 minutes past 6. Seriously? I asked her to allow us to place our order but she refused. I was so frustrated and left in a very disheartened state. We went to Fin and had oysters. I am sorry to say, I won’t ever return to RP. Bad customer service and a total fail evening.

We had a lovely meal of the kinds of things you don’t find on every menu: french tart, roast duck, venison and a ginger crème brûlée. We were there during an actual blizzard snowstorm, with warm fireplaces and lovely ambiance The food was excellent. My only suggestion is that this is really a $$$ restaurant, not a $$ one.

The only reason I gave Red Pheasant five stars is because I couldn’t give it twelve. My wife and I have been enjoying dinners here for more than ten years, and the food has always been superb, the service attentive but not intrusive, and the atmosphere conducive to the best of times. We were seated in the garden room overlooking a wild profusion of flowers. For a Friday night, though, it was surprisingly quiet. We had the three-course prix-fixe dinner consisting of soup/salad/appetizer, entrée and desert. We wanted both the soup(cherrystone and scallop chowder) and the dinner salad, not either-or. No problem, they said. We both ordered salmon that was served on a cornmeal pancake, garnished with sprouts with rice pilaf as a side. Magnificent! It was our anniversary, and when I called for a reservation, I asked if the chef could prepare a small cake to surprise my wife. The pastry chef came up with a three-layer marvel that was a delight to the eye as well as the palate. Our favorite Cape restaurant, by far.

This place is old, quaint and charming. I would love to go when the fireplace is lit. The service was very nice, lowkey and unobtrusive. There is no view, but nice gardens and bird feeders outside the windows. The food is well prepared and tends tward classic, not exotic, but there are times for when that is just what we want. We enjoy the Cape cinema and CC Playhouse nearby. The two made a nice evening.

The Red Pheasant is a favorite of my parents, now both in their 70’s. I mention that first because there is a slightly dated feel to the place. Don’t go expecting trendy entrees or sparkling modern art work. It is an old inn. That said, the food is quite excellent and a decent value. We took my folks here for a recent anniversary dinner and all was good. The day boat scallops were succulent and served with a perfectly cooked risotto. Mom had a very tender and tasty filet steak. And the tiramisu was a moist delight. I look forward to going back.

Let me first say-I have written lots of good reviews, but believe that if you have nothing nice to say-you should not say anything at all– But after tonights meal-I am posting one. My Mom and I were very excited to try the Red Pheasant as our visits are always filled with restaurant adventures. I can not begin to tell you how disappointed we were. Grilled peach salad– with blue cheese ‘snow’ Peaches mushy and yucky and we are still giggling about the snow forecast. Mom wanted to try the sole-but did not want au gratin potatoes-they actually refused to substitute the risotto-but suggested another potato-is this really the way to treat customers in a ‘high end’ establishment? It was swimming in sauce and I think someone fell over with the jar of capers-into the dish. I choose the scallops with the sought-after risotto-which was under cooked and chewy. The dish was plated with the stingiest yellowed arugula I have seen in a long while. Not dreadful, but not worth the $ 28+ we paid for it. Dessert…let me just say a soggy cream puff can be called a profiterole, but a rose by any other name-is still soggy! I live here on Beautiful Cape Cod, so I will never return-but Cape visitors beware-save you r money and visit what I consider the best restaurant on the Cape-The Cape Sea Grille in Harwichport.

Our first time here, but we shall return! We were promptly greeted and seated at a nice corner table. I felt like we were in a French farmhouse. Our server was attentive and the food was delicious. We had the French tart and a mushroom special as starters. Main course was the Littleneck Clams & Wild Gulf Shrimp for me and the Sole Meuniere for my husband. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. A nice Benziger Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 complimented the meal, yes it was perfect even though it was red wine with seafood! We shared a Lattice of Chocolate Mousse, which was a perfect way to end the dinner.

We really enjoyed our dinner here last night. It was recommended by the owners of our bed and breakfast. It seems like primarily American/New England cuisine, but there also seems to be something of a French influence as well. My fiancée had the crab cake appetizer, which she enjoyed, while I had a french tart, which had Gruyère cheese, ham, and caramelized onions, and it was absolutely yummy. For entrees, I had a buffalo tenderloin, which was cooked perfectly(medium-rare, as requested), and she had a sole dish. Both were excellent. Service was prompt, courteous, and efficient. Our waiter was somewhat soft-spoken, but since it wasn’t too crowded it wasn’t too hard to hear him. The restaurant is in an old barn, which is obvious from the interior layout. We thought it was quite cozy and comfortable, and could see it being interesting in the winter if the fireplaces were going. We will definitely put this establishment on our list of restaurants to frequent when we are on the Cape.

During a recent visit to the Cape, my husband and I had the opportunity to dine here. Visiting the Cape during off season can be a challenge since many businesses are closed until the late spring. This place was recommended so we decided to try it out. Located right on Route 6A, the place is hard to miss. Look for the bright red barn. Actually, it is very New England and it goes well with the cuisine. Specializing in «classic and new» cuisine, the menu is very traditional New England but also has a few twists. There are specials nightly, and one of the most interesting items on is a game entrée. I believe the game changes nightly. It was buffalo the night we were there, and never having tried it before, I decided to order it. I started with a country terrine and duck liver pâté, which was fantastic. Served with huge slices of freshly toasted garlicky, buttery bread, the terrine was rich and the pâté was richer. My husband had a roasted beets and duck confit salad. Then onto the buffalo, which was a sliced flank steak served with grilled asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. I enjoyed it. My husband also enjoyed his entrée(sorry, can’t remember what it was at this time). We shared the largest profiterole I have ever seen for dessert. This thing was massive and filled with vanilla bean ice cream, then drenched in a thick, gooey chocolate sauce that was almost like ganache. Oh yes, it was. I’m still thinking about it. Very good eats and definitely worth making another trip to try other dishes.
