Big portions of hibachi and rice, made to order and the fried rice is really good. Large pieces of meat and veggies(and much cheaper than their sister hibachi restaurant next door). Prices are fair and they deliver to Sycamore and Cortland, which is a plus. The beef can be hit or miss — sometimes overcooked — but it’s seasoned well. The house salad with the ginger dressing is good. I’m not a fan of sushi, but my husband and daughter think it’s ok here. Drinks can be costly, but we always get the hot tea or just water. I’m a big fan of the ginger sauce and pinku sauce, which they charge for extras. Glad to have the variety in the area and another place that delivers.

Let me start off by saying that I do infact love this place. The chicken hibachi is always on point, and the sushi quality is reasonable for dekalb. The restaurant is also reasonably priced, and offers quick delivery. Fushi yami has in the past, slighted me before when ordering gyoza, salads and etc, as I don’t think that they have standardized portions, and sizes might be up to the cook’s discretion. However I was slightly disappointed in my recent order of aged tofu(deep fried tofu). The item is priced at $ 4.50, which is pretty cheap, however what was even cheaper was the portion size that I received. I have ordered this item several times before, and usually received one sliced up brick of tofu, cut into thick chunks. About 14 – 18 thick cubes of delicious fried tofu. That was not the case this time. It looked as if they had run out of tofu to make a full order, and instead of calling me to say that the item was no longer in stock; they simply cut what they had into really thin squares of 5 – 6 pieces. I was kinda bummed and a little bitter because I LOOOOVVVEE tofu, and(secretly wanted it more than the chicken hibachi I ordered) and I know what the usual potion looks, and normally have enough for the next day. Oh well! I will still order from here as it is the only Japanese food place that delivers. On a good note, that food arrived hot and quickly and the chicken hibachi was delicious!!!

When you’re in DeKalb and you want sushi, you really don’t have any options. I think Fushi Yami is okay. Their rolls are a decent price, but I think a little too pricey for the quality. With that being said, I would still eat them. I like the Huskie Roll and Firecracker Roll but I’m not too sure if either is really worth $ 10. If you want sushi from here you’re better off ordering a couple of the basic rolls or one of the sushi combinations. There are a lot of other items on the menu that aren’t sushi. I think the best value here is probably the hibachi. I usually get the chicken and steak one and it’s definitely more than enough food. Maybe even enough for two meals. One thing I like about this place is the delivery. I’ve ordered delivery from here two or three times now and it’s always been quick and my order has always been right. It’s really easy to order online and I’ve never had any problems. For a while this was also the only place in DeKalb you could get bubble tea, which was also a plus. If you’re in DeKalb and in desperate need of sushi, I’d say this is still someplace to consider.

Very poor grade sushi, everything is imitation. Have gotten sick from here twice, I should have learned the first time! The other food besides sushi looks good, like the chicken teriyaki and such. If I ever go again I will definitely not be getting the sushi! I eat a lot of sushi so I know when things are good and when something is imitation.

The steak and chicken hibachi is my favorite! The fried rice is so gooood. I also get the house salad which is super simple but the dressing and fried onions give it a delicious flavor. I think they are very reasonably priced as well.

I used to be a regular customer to fushi ami and even recommended this place to my friends but a week ago I ordered a shrimp hibachi from them that I used to order nearly every time and when I got home to open my meal and eat thank fully I stopped to look in my box before I ate it because the literally every single piece of shrimp in my box was over flowing with fecal matter. It was so extensive that there were even streams of shrimp shit laying on the rice and veggies too. I was so upset and disappointed because by the time I made it home they were closed and I didn’t eat that night because the food was covered in shrimp waste. I called them the following day and the female employee told me that she didn’t want to do anything about it because it wasn’t quote on quote their job to make sure their food is fecal matter free she said that she even checked with her manager who told her to do nothing because they buy their meat from a seller who is supposed to devain them. So when I replied to her so you think it’s okay to feed people animal waste in their food because even though you guys have seen it in people’s food you don’t care and you think that it’s acceptable to feed it to people because it’s quote on quote not your job to NOT clean the meat you’re feeding people so it s okay to leave ANIMALWASTE in a customer’s food ??? During the phone call she repeated at least 3 times that it’s happened well before me and that it isn’t their responsibility to do anything. I will not be eating there again and would strongly encourage others to find alternatives for eating. Even though they replaced my food after me repeating what was in my food I didn’t find them very professional or sanitary to eat from. Give the Japanese restaurant attached next to them I’ve heard great things from their customers and friends from NIU if there was a negative star rating I would most definitely be posting that instead.

I tried the hibachi steak lunch. OMGosh, so good. The steak was medium rare, I got veggies that were sauteed, and fried rice. I’m not sure what they put on the fried rice, but it was sweet tasting and delicious. If you’re watching what you eat, I would suggest the steamed white rice. I love this place, never had a meal that I didn’t like.

We enjoy this little shushi place. As with most sushi, it can be pricey for what you get. Great flavors and good service. We’ve never had anything to complain in the many times we’ve been here. Tons of variety, something for everyone here.

This is a good place to eat and the food is good. However it is close to NIU so you do tend to see a lot of loud(and often drunk) college students. As such we always do take out. Their chicken BBQ on skewers is excellent. Some of the sushi is good, however be prepared for an overly strong fishy flavor, even on the California rolls. We stopped eating here once the fishy flavor got stronger and stronger.

Like their hibachi but they have poor customer service. Anytime I call in an order they’re rude. About three years ago they were friendly but it’s been horrible there. Last three times we have ordered their credit card machine was down so they required cash only yet they didn’t mention that when we ordered. In all poor customer service beats out the taste. Won’t be going there often if at all anymore

I eat here a lot. Decent sushi, kind of expensive, they put bleach on the floor while you’re still eating. Literally, they start closing 20 minutes early and make you feel super uncomfortable and mop with bleach which smells terrible(enough to give me a headache).

It’s basically this and Haru of Japan in the vicinity of NIU for sushi. It’s fairly cheap here for what you get… but 3 stars cos it’s pretty mediocre quality. I ordered gyoza, spicy crunchy white tuna, and salmon dream(4 pc. California roll, 6 pc. salmon sushi, 8 pc. spicy salmon) for carry-out around 3pm on a Monday. The total was $ 22.50, but the guy on the phone was curt and was talking so fast like he was so busy(but he wasn’t…) – it came off a bit rude. I wouldn’t say I won’t come back, considering there aren’t many sushi places around here. But if I could eat sushi elsewhere… I would. Thumbs up for an easy-to-use website!

Great restaurant and great food. However, delivery area is limited. I live in Sycamore and after ordering received a call informing they would not make the delivery due distance. A pity as it seems all the other Japanese restaurants in the area doesn’t make deliver at all, meaning, a great opportunity lost by the owner in making more orders. I would order at least once a week, again a pity. You will lose a customer.

«Yay! I’m a fan» is a great way to describe my feelings about Fushi Yami. I came here with some ladies after class after hearing from several people it was delish. I was surprised that it was the type of place where you order/pay at the counter then they give you a number and deliver the food to your table. I’d never heard of a quick hibachi place like this but it’s convenient for those who want a quicker lunch. I ordered the Fire Cracker Roll($ 10), the Sea Scallop Hibachi($ 9.50) and and a fountain drink($ 1.65). The roll had spicy tuna and tempura in it, among other things, and was topped with more tuna and spicy mayo. Very good! The hibachi was a little less good, the scallops were small and could have been cooked longer, but the fried rice and veggies were perfect. I like that you can choose between fried and white rice without an up-charge. The«white sauce» which is actually pink, was very tasty and complimented the whole meal well. The fountain drinks offer free refills which is always a plus. I took home a whole meal worth of leftovers so i’d say I definitely got my moneys worth. For a Japanese restaurant within walking distance of a college campus I was impressed and plan on coming back.

Love, love, love this restaurant! I discovered this hidden gem when a friend was visiting and we were looking for sushi. The menu is well displayed above the cash register, along with a good description of what is all in the food you’re ordering. The staff is very helpful in recommending food to fit your mood. I ordered the spicy veggie crunch, miso Soup and spring rolls. All were very good, but The miso Soup is exceptional. They offer cooked as well as raw sushi which is a plus if you want to introduce someone to the sushi world. The atmosphere is nice. They usually have sports playing on either television they have there, which isn’t my favorite thing to watch, but we do live in a college town.

Love this place. Number one place for sushi in the Dekalb area in my opinion! I love the snow crab rolls and their hibachi dinners are really good all for a reasonable price!

I was a weekly guest here and for good reason. The food is delicious and fresh. I also love the substitutions, modifications, and general choices on the menu. I am on a first name basis with the manager who always greets me with a smile when I call in or come in. Clean, clean, clean restaurant.

I loved this place when it first opened. Today I ordered the crunchy white tuna roll and a salmon roll, and a cucumber salad for lunch. It took 30 minutes to be served. They were not busy. Then I found what looked like a wood splinter in my food. It was in the tuna roll. I showed it to them, and they did nothing. So I won’t be going back unfortunately. I do hope they improve their service.

The sushi is pretty decent. I personally like the Firecracker and Baby Monster rolls. I don’t think I’ve ever had a disappointing experience with the food. Dinners can get expensive in a hurry, though.
