After my experience yesterday, I would never come back to this Ace Hardware again. My boyfriend and I went in yesterday to purchase a garbage can. We have been there several times before to purchase odds and ends as well. Every previous time if we needed something that we couldn’t find, one of the workers always told us that the«manager» would look for it and let us know, because he knows where everything is. This«manager» was there yesterday and was extremely rude to us, and another customer. We were waiting to pay for about 15 minutes, and when the«manager» went to walk by us to get behind the register, my boyfriend picked up the garbage can and moved it as to let the man go by– he did not place the garbage can on the counter, he just lifted it up as a courtesy to let him get by– there was another person with a huge cart on our other side, so this was the only option to move out of his way. He then said to my boyfriend, «Take that off of there now.» Taken aback, my boyfriend just placed the can on the ground again, even though it was NEVER put on the counter–(side note, it wouldn’t have even fit on the counter, so it was just absurd altogether). My boyfriend told him he was just lifting it up as to get out of the way for him to walk by. Then, the«manager» proceeded to ring up another man who had just purchased $ 500 worth of fertilizer and wanted to do an exchange for $ 5 worth of merchandise. The«manager» REFUSED to let him to do this, and proceeded to tell the man he was«not the manager» and«it’s not my money». so either he lied to that man, or he has lied to us all the previous times we were in here when he claimed to be in charge! I couldn’t believe he was nickle and diming this man after he just spent $ 500 in there. News flash– Home Depot and Lowes have BETTER prices than you– its CUSTOMERSERVICE that gets people to come into your store. I will NEVER go back to Ace Hardware, and we are actually returning the garbage can. I will take my business elsewhere.

Just had a great experience with a very helpful salesperson. I had a broken wheel on a $ 100 collapsible wagon I use constantly to move stuff to and from my apartment. Since this wagon was made in china of course there weren’t any parts I could order to fix it and it was too useful to be thrown away. I went to the ACE hardware on Friday 12⁄6 around 6pm and there was only one salesperson on duty and he went out of is way to find a cheap fix and even went the extra mile to help me drill out the old riveted wheel so it could be fixed quickly. Reminded me of the service I had gotten with the old hardware stores of my childhood. Our desire to fix things is a motivating and enjoyable trait and to only have the choice today to throw things out or return to a big box store just doesn’t offer the same sense of accomplishment. ACE, Thank you for remembering the needs of us «fixaholics» and offering the service to help us complete our To Do lists.
