Welp! I was looking for a spot to take my wife for a date. And being that she is a true chocoholic, I thought this would be a great spot. For our first time there, I can say I’m impressed. The ambience was very intimate with a modern twist. The desserts were very flavorful. And the good thing, the night wasn’t too heavy on the pockets either.

I thank God for chocolate! Having the Chocolate Bar is like heaven on earth! The hubby and I went there a few nights ago and had a wonderful romantic evening. The staff was very helpful and the chocolate made my taste buds very happy! Update: 11÷3÷13 Please note that the Chocolate Bar has been shut down. I didn’t realize this when I posted my review from 1 year ago.

Worst service ever! Went there initially because I had a scoutmob. After telling the waitress about the scoutmob she said that their system was down and that they were under new management. Okay. no problem. After sitting there for about an hour we were finally approached by a waitress that took our orders. It took close to an hour a fifteen minutes to get our orders to us(which were wrong and missing part of the order). After watching customers that came in after us, get served and then eventually left, waitress comes over to give us the check to pay and softly utters«Just remember we can only take cash only tonite since our credit card machine is broken.» She NEVER mentioned anything about cash only and then had the gall to tell us we could run acrosss the street in the pourung rain to get cash from the ATM. Worst service ever by far. I’ll stick to the midtown Chocolate Bar.

I love cake. But, I love really HUGE pieces of cake even more! This is a great place to bring a date after dinner. We walked down here after eating at Noodle, and once again enjoyed 50% off thanks to Scout Mob. We shared the cake, which was almost too much for both of us to share. The Red Velvet is sweet, but not too icky sweet, just right. We also enjoyed a few of the truffles, which were delicious. How can you go wrong with such decadent truffles? I am not a fan of those sweet and syrupy chocolate drinks they serve, and if you’re not either, do not despair! They offer a few other normal(and less sweet) varieties of beer and wine. If you don’t have a chocolate tooth at all, relax, because they also offer a skillet apple pie and even carrot cake. Sweet teeth, rejoice!

Chocolate Bar is cute, but kind of awkward. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, and while I was there, I really wasn’t sure what the vibe was. Some people were drinking, others were having dessert, some looked like they were also confused, and it just seemed like a bar/restaurant(what is it?!) that doesn’t really know what its identity truly is. I had a chocolate cheesecake that was pretty good, but for good dessert and atmosphere at the same time, I’ll head somewhere else.

I really love this place. My boyfriend and I have been here several times. We actually came here for our first date after going to Parker’s on Ponce. He had the Apple Pie something and it was okay but I’m not into desserts like that, so IDK… I will say that I love love love their drinks. The first time I went they had infused vodka with a variety of fruits and they would mix it with Moscato… these are delicious. They got rid of these when I came back, so I was forced to try other drinks. I have tried many and they are all really tasty. If you are worried about certain flavors or it being too sweet the bartender was really accommodating. It was a great vibe for the date, but I must warn you the drinks are strong! You just do not always notice right away. They have a small outdoor patio and the establishment inside is small as well, but I think its a cool little place. I have also been there with my girls, just to drink before going out. My only complaint is I can’t frequent the place too often because the prices are really high. Every drink is pretty expensive. And really that is the main reason I’m coming. I wish they would find a way to get cheaper options.

Trying to be something it’s not. After dinner at No.246 on Saturday night, and wanting something sweet, we walked down to Choc bar. Very weird atmosphere… not much going on. Staff was trying to be something they weren’t. We settled on a piece of key lime cake and our friend had a red velvet cupcake. All I can say is ‘ehhh’. Sounded a lot better than it was.

After having an excellent dinner down on the Square earlier, and taking a stroll up and down the main street of Decatur, my friend and I came upon The Original Chocolate Bar. We’d learned a couple of weeks earlier that on Tuesdays, the chocolate bar has everything on sale for $ 2 — 2 handmade chocolates for $ 2, a cupcake or dessert drink for $ 2, etc. And lo and behold it was a Tuesday night! What are the odds, I ask you? And judging by the crowd of people already lounging at tables outside or gathered inside, we weren’t the only ones who’d been clued in to this little tidbit of info. So we entered to gaze at the case of gorgeous chocolates and other desserts, and two men behind the counter greeted us. After much debate and talking with one of the employees about his favorite chocolates, we went for broke and got a box of 8 different flavors(let’s see if I can remember them all now): tiramisu, peanut butter and jelly, Venezuelan dark chocolate(65%), passion panna cotta, hazelnut truffle, espresso truffle, caramel dolce, and one other that escapes me. Dang — so close to remembering them all. Ah well… We took our box of treasures outside to one of the sidewalk tables and a waiter brought us a carafe of ice water to help wash down the chocolatey goodness. And let me tell you, not only are the chocolates beautiful with their airbrushed colors and printed on shells, they’re delicious! Each one was unique and much, much better than anything you could buy even from a high class chocolatier like Godiva or Lindt. It comes from being locally sourced and made, I guess. The flavors were full and unique and beyond melt in your mouth good! We worked our way slowly through the 8 flavors we’d chosen savoring every one and really tasting the different flavors and nuances. The peanut butter and jelly, passion panna cotta and espresso truffle were some of my very favorites, but there are so many more flavors to try! I look forward to going back for round 2 another Tuesday sometime in the future.

This place is really small, my bf and I would have had a long wait if we did not decide to sit at the bar. All the drinks and desserts are very expensive so we ended up with just 2 desserts no drinks. The passion fruit crème brûlée had an amazing flavor but the custard part of it was too mushy. The New York original cheesecake was delicious. I only tried this place once, and found it to be pretentious and overpriced… however, i will probably try it again if i’m in the area.

We actually like this place. They have a good selection of desserts and the wines/bar options to accompany them. Havent been to the other location but the patio on Ponce is convenient. We have also have good service every time we went.

This is the place to go to when you need your chocolate fix!!! No Lie!!! It’s no big surprise that I LOVE chocolate so when I found this place, I thought I died and went to Heaven My first time here was on a Saturday night. You have been warned! This place gets extremely crowded on weekends so either be prepared to wait or improvise like I did and make your own seat. Our server acknowledged that it was very crowded and apologized for the service. I was understanding but the fact that he took care of us in a big way once he was able to serve us made me a fan! The chocolate martinis are decadent!!! And the bon bons are to die for Both of these together will get you legally high and quick. Topped off with Chocolate Covered Strawberries… Win win Win!!!(charlie sheen voice) Oh, they also infuse their own vodka’s. I sampled one on Thursday. NICE!!!

I’m struggling a bit with this update. I really like the concept of this place, and the people who work here seem really nice. But something is just off, unfortunately. I have been here a few times since my first inaugural visit(which garnered me a ROTD, thank you very much). One time we sat at a table out front on the sidewalk and watched the table next to us get up and leave after not getting any service. We waited 15 minutes, then followed their lead after zero acknowledgment of us by the server. Boo! More recently, I tried it again and the place was predictably packed to the gills on a Saturday night. Luckily we arrived as a table cleared, so we sat pretty quickly. And lucky for us, the bartender was actually helping bus the tables and he took our drink orders right off the bat and turned them around quickly.(At one point, I think even the pastry chef from the kitchen was helping with table service!) After we had our drinks, I couldn’t’ help but notice this couple at a nearby two-top scowling at us. I wasn’t sure what they were staring at, until a few moments later the man got up and started to rip into the manager. Apparently they’d been there long before us and were pissed that we were served first while they still sat and waited for their drinks. Sucks to be them! The original chocolate martini still tastes delicious(although I swear it’s just Yoo-Hoo, y’all! Wink wink). But they definitely need to work out their operational efficiencies and the service problems.

Has potential to be great but I have to admit, the service is a bit shaky. With a full house, they shouldn’t hesitate to hire more people. The guy behind the bar was totally slammed and the odd thing was that he was the only one with a license to make cocktails so no one else could assist in helping him out. Dessert cocktails were ok. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by great chocolate desserts in the Bay Area but I thought most of the menu was mediocre(and not very cheap either for what you get). Best bet is the hot chocolate. Very yummy cocoa and about $ 5 a pop!

How can you call yourself a chocolate bar and not sell chocolates? I had a groupon for Chocolate Bar and had alwaysplanned on usingit on New Years Eve to purchase chocolates for my guest. The groupon was $ 10 for $ 25 worth of products. The girl behind the counter stated«you can have 6 petit fours, 5 mini cheesecake bites, or 4 cupcakes for your groupon». I am sorry, but you can not tell me that those little«frozen» cheesecakes are $ 5 a piece. She helped the two people in front of me, but then I had to wait while she made drinks for some guests. I waited over 10minutes and had to send my husband out to put more money in the parking meter. I wish I knew what she was pouring into those cocktails. Someof the liquid came from an non-labeled jug. She also used lemon juice from concentrate and not fresh lemon juice. You would expect more from a place like this. It is a shame!

This place has terrible service for what it strives to be(a fancy dessert date spot), and the price that you pay. I had a groupon that I needed to use, so came here with the hubs after our dinner date. It was a really cold night, so we just wanted to use the groupon and take the sweets home to enjoy. We walked in and picked up a menu. We decided what we wanted from the menu and waved down a waiter. After we told him the first thing we wanted, he glanced at our menu and said«Oh, we don’t serve that anymore. You’re looking at an old menu.» What the??? He said he didn’t know who put out the old menus, but that we needed to look at the new menu and then walked away.(BTW, most of the menus in the menu holder were the old ones. I don’t know who put them there, but it’s kind of his responsibility to check and remove them, no?) Anyways, so we looked at a new menu, and figure out the things we want for the groupon amount. We then wave down another waiter(there were only 2 of them working that night). We proceeded to order what we wanted, and she said, «Are you doing take-out? Some of these things are only for sit down. You have to order from the glass case if you want take out.» SERIOUSLY??? I’m sure they could’ve warmed up what we wanted and just put it in a box for us to take home, but they obviously didn’t want to. The selection from the glass case looked S-A-D. The chocolate had been sitting there for who knows how long. None of the desserts in there looked fresh. At this point I was like I don’t care, let’s just get something and get the hell out of here. We ordered some chocolates(that I shared with co-workers) and a mocha cake(or something to that effect). The mocha cake was ok… the frosting was too thick, and it would’ve been better warm. We actually nuked it in the microwave a little bit, which made it better. I’m just really frustrated by the terrible service, especially for the price they ask. Never again, Chocolate Bar.

Their reviews suck for a reason. Let’s just say AAA showed up with someone to pop my lock faster than I got my oreos and milk dessert. You will be waiting. And waiting. No matter what it is you want: food, a drink, to pay… you will wait. They screwed up the orders because it was«busy.» There was always at least one or two open tables and at least 4 open bar seats the entire time I was there. And most people seemed to be getting the truffles from the front, or they already had food. There was a lot of apologizing about the wait. That was about it. It wasn’t even worth the 80 minutes it took. We should have been done there around 9:30, not 10:30. Unlike a lot of other people with Groupons, my friend and I had no problem using ours. In fact they put both of ours on one check and it worked for anything. So for $ 10 I had the oreos and milk, which is $ 12, not $ 9, like it says online. They also serve far more actual food than the menu makes it look like, such as paninis and salads, and far less desserts than listed on there. Their wine menu online isn’t even up to date, I had a glass of a sparkling sauvignon blanc, which sounded really interesting, but due to it being room temperature was kind of awful. I kept it right by my water glass so by the time I finally had my cake, it was cooler than at the start. The black truffle popcorn was actually decently sized for what I was expecting, judging by the sizes of everything else. Don’t even bother. There’s so much better in Decatur and the prices are so exorbitant for most items. If I hadn’t had a Groupon I would have never bothered. A glass of wine, some cookie cake with ice cream and caramel sauce, and a bowl of popcorn is really not ever worth $ 26.50. Also they never seem to really bother with their hours, before this my friend and I tried to go there on a Saturday for a drink, around 4, and they weren’t even open, despite their hours being listed as 3. Sadly this even led to us joking tonight that it looks like they’re open, people are inside!

Wow — this place went downhill. I used to go there every now and again, but it’s been at least a year since I was last there. Last night, however, my wife and I stopped in for a glass of wine and some chocolate. We sat at a small table — there were two other tables of people in there, and a guy playing guitar. At the bar were two people who seemed to be friendly with the bartender and waitress. We waited a while and when the waitress finally came over, we each ordered a drink. After about 5 minutes, the waitress came back over and asked us to tell her again what we ordered. She returned to the bar and then was talking to some other people and helping some people who walked in and wanted chocolate. The bartender appeared to be making our drinks, but it then turned out he was just cleaning something. After another 5 minutes, we decided to leave. We there there about 18 minutes total and never got our drinks. We never even got to order any chocolate. We’re definitely not going back.

Went later in the night to get dessert and drinks. When you first walk in, there is a display of all different types of chocolate. truffles, cakes. It is free seating, so you sit wherever you please. They also have a few tables outside. I had a Groupon for $ 25 worth of treats so the three of us ordered 5 chocolate covered strawberries, 2 caramel truffles, 1 chocolate mousse, 1 chocolate crème pot, and 1 oreos and milk dessert. All were amazing, and all under $ 25! I sort of wish the oreos were warm and possibly closer to the ice cream, but the presentation was very nice as it had a caramel type glaze in between with hearts. Very cute. The place is very cute. Cute for dates or a girls night out. The service was okay, I mean we got our desserts timely, nothing special.

Had a keylime pastry here, man im dumb this is a chocolate bar dont know what I was thinking. Anyways it was good and we got two chocolate martinis, I liked the tiramisu one more then the drink called the«chocolate bar» I hope this doesnt call for my man card to be revoked, if it helps my wife ordered them both and I only tried a few sips. Service was friendly, would go back if I was in a situation that required me to drink a chocolate martini ;)

Nice place to go after a date just to kind of recap, enjoy some truffles, have a nice watermelon cocktail. The place is kind of quaint but I love the atmosphere. On Sundays they have Jazz performers entertain their customers. Now for their dessert, I must say isn’t that good. They have the oreo’s and milk not to be confused with oreo’s because it way more expensive like 11.00 and its nasty. However their truffles are AMAZING. The truffles are the reason why I run down to the chocolate bar all the time. They’re each 1.25 and i usually get the almond rocher, caramel truffle, milk chocolate truffle, and cocoa truffle. The staff is wonderful too. Since I started to come everyday they knew my name and exactly what i wanted to order. They also have really cute gift boxes(colors: blue and brown) to put the truffles in. All my friends that i’ve given them to love them! Parking sucks… but i usually go around 10pm so theres plenty of parking.
