I began training here 4 years ago. The head instructor, Mike Patt, is one of the very few legitimate BJJ black belts in the area. He brings a lifetime of knowledge pulling from his experience in wrestling, jiu jitsu and MMA among other disciplines. Not only is Mike Patt a great head instructor, there is also a phenomenal junior instructor Mikey Cox that assists with instruction. But the quality of instruction is only one reason to train here. The atmosphere is highly conducive to learning. This is not a bully factory filled with ego driven MMA wanna-bees eager to beat up the new guy. It is truly a family friendly environment. My 2 year old regularly accompanies me to class. If you are looking for quality instruction in a great atmosphere with great guys/girls as teammates, give Dayton MMA a try!

We found Dayton MMA Academy online as we were searching for Martial Arts classes for our very spirited, very active 5 year old. Realizing most Martial Arts studios do not accept students until they are around age 6 – 7, we were pleasantly surprised to find Dayton MMA Academy offering classes for very young children, carefully designed to be both fun and educational for the age group. They were a bit hard to get ahold of on the phone due to the nature of differing class hours and the very personal nature of the studio(this is no mass produced operation!) but eventually with a little persistence I was able to speak to someone, a most wonderfully kind person indeed, who filled me in on the details. They were well worth pursuing! If you are interested and you call and don’t immediately reach someone, don’t give up! They are worth your effort, every bit of it. When we arrived to their small studio in Beavercreek, we were pleasantly shocked to find it was right behind the best pediatric dentist’s office in the whole wide world! Hi Dr. Ira! We had been right there so many times and just never knew it, you have to know where to look or you’ll miss them! Once inside, we found it to be a most unique comfortable atmosphere, where students take their craft very seriously, instructors are inspiringly proficient and personable, with customers of every age group coming and going. This is a cool place, the whole package if I may say so! Upon arriving, we were a little confused as to who we were supposed to talk to since nobody was at the front desk at the time, so we went around the corner and found many kind instructors ready and willing to speak with us. If you visit, make sure you come early, and if you don’t see anyone up front, feel free to walk around a little and ask. They are so sweet and helpful, someone will find you and they won’t be upset to find you wandering, promise. We were told our son could try the studio out for a week, which meant two classes(GREAT!) since the«Mighty Mites» class meets on Wednesdays and Fridays. We tried it out the next week and it was nothing sort of inspiring. What discipline! What honor! It was such an amazing thing to watch. The only thing better than watching that first lesson was witnessing my son’s enthusiasm once the lesson was over, for the remainder of the week. He truly loved the art form, and couldn’t wait to go back. We signed up the following week. It was absolutely refreshing to find their monthly class tuition affordable, without the many registration fees and administrative fees other organizations like to add for new students. Their contract was absolutely simple and fair. They truly treat each student with care, and accommodate each learning style as needed. I’ve been very impressed so far! The class sizes are small, the interaction between student and instructor is one-on-one and very focused which helps the young ones immensely in a group setting, and the class length is just right for this age, 30 minutes twice a week. Well done! I cannot speak highly enough of Dayton MMA Academy, even though we have only been a member for a matter of weeks. They have shown us great care and have already taught my little son so much! I am thoroughly moved, and look forward to our future together. I highly recommend them for any parent looking for Martial Arts classes for kids, or adults. As an adult, you might be interested to know they have not only the mats, but a full gym of weights and machines for getting into peak physical condition along with a dedicated group of individuals very active in the local MMA scene. Highly Recommended. This group is way more than just another business; it’s a beautiful tradition, a timeless discipline, an art form and finally, an investment in integrity.
