My husband is from Chicago, so he is pretty picky about his«Chicago food.» We missed our trip there this year due to an emergency c section and now a long NICU stay. But, I found this little gem for him, and honestly, we didn’t expect very much. We were wrong. So so wrong! The food was amazing! The Maxwell street polish sausage was great! The Chicago style hot dog even had the bright green relish, and the gyro was soo good!(They even stacked on a bunch of meat like my favorite Mr. Subs does!) Next up to try is the beef! It’s not Portillos, but it is super close when you’re so far away. We will be back. Often. Thank you for making my husband smile the biggest smile I’ve seen in 2 months!

Being in the military I don’t always get a chance to have some of my hometown food; however, I find myself in Ohio with a place that boasts a Chicago spread: game on! First, the place is clean and the service pretty spot on. My go-to item, the mighty Italian Beef. I asked for mozzarella on top, but they didn’t have any. Ok, not a deal breaker since they don’t serve pizza here, although Portillo’s figured out a way(just sayin). They did ask me if I wanted it dunked(great question to ask for those in the know), but I choose to have it on the side this time around. The sandwich came out with the fries I ordered and everything was nice and hot. Unfortunately, the fries were way too greasy for my liking. As far as the beef was concerned, it just wasn’t there. As far as I’m concerned, it was some type a facsimile, at best. The beef was over cooked and the sauce seemingly without much flavor. While an Italian Beef is a key food group within Chicago, perhaps it just isn’t the specialty here. All the signs talk about the gyro, so I’ll probably give that a shot next time around, along with a dog. Italian Beef: a swing and a miss… Strike One! Standby for the next two pitches. Update — Chicago dog: poppy seed bun, Vienna beef hot dog… Yep, all there. My minor gripe is that the bun wasn’t steamed, and that took away from the authenticity. C’mon guys, steam the buns instead of taking them out of the bag. Do that one last step and you’re there! Gyro: No complaints. A large amount of meat, soft pita, and all of it piping hot. It was great. Definitely worth adding the fourth star to the review.

Definitely a man’s place. I got the nasty natti, it was good but a few bites had just a little too much meat for me. Greek fries nothing to write home about. Service was quick and friendly. I’d go back and try again.

If you are looking for the best gyro in the Dayton Ohio area, then you have got to go to Chicago Gyros & Dogs. We have tried the Gyro Place, Pasha at the Greene and just about every place that has the word Gyro on the menu, and this place beats them all! Their tzaziki sauce, is amazing. Also be sure to try the Greek fries and dressing, killer! Great friendly service and prices besides, you won’t be disappointed!

True love! Being an Illinois transplant this is as close as it gets. The poppy seed buns, kosher dog, nuclear green relish. The only drawback is sometimes their buns can end up being stale bricks and I wish they would carry a jumbo dog…

So far I have only had the Gyro and Greek salad and they are very good. The Gyro has a huge helping of meat and as good as I have had around town.

Food is typical of a hole in the wall Greek place, the dogs are good, the Italian beef sandwich is good too nothing is super great but around here this is the best we got for Chicago food. The service is hit or miss the owners are great when they’re there. But there is a younger guy that has long hair he keeps in a bun and I believe he has a beard that has been very unpleasant every time we go in, just isn’t personable and treats you like you’re bothering him, and this has happened multiple times. Still worth going because its good enough to me that it could just be my perception and you could think it’s amazing.

Their dogs are high quality, I am a fan of the Carolina Dog. Their Gyro is also very good, and boy do they pile it on. The spinach pie(spanekopita) is average. The Greek fries are good. They are average priced and the service is good. It’s a place I frequent and recommend if you have a hankering for a good hot dog of various varieties.

First time, definitely not the last. The Kickin Chicken Pita sandwich was very good, the fries are great. Appears clean but lighting was very bright.

I got the gyro dog and it was pretty good. I would like to try several of their options. The hot dog was top notch. Hand cut fries were really good. I think they are a little pricy for lunch. Nice and friendly service.

We really enjoyed all the food we got from Chicago Gyro’s and Dogs! Also the people working there are always very friendly and are happy to make suggestions(or take ideas!) It will definitely be a part of our regular rotation.

I’ve been several times and had both gyros and burgers. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious and the portions are generous. Friendly staff and pretty quick service. No ambience to speak of but what do you expect for a «gyros and dogs» joint. My current go-to stop for a gyro. Love it!

The food was just«eh», but the service and staff attitude was something heartbreaking. Not only did they mess up our order, twice, but when we tried to make it right we got a lot of eye-rolling. The staff said right in front of us, «these type of people…». No thank we. We won’t go back.

One of my first reviews for Unilocal was of the phenomenal Chicago institution, Al’s Beef. Unfortunately, it’s been way too long since I’ve made my way up to Chicagoland, so I’ve had to settle for inferior pretenders to the Italian Roast Beef crown. Oh, man. Chicago Gyros and Dogs gives Al’s a run for their money. They’re not as good as that Chicago original, but wow… their Italian beef sandwich does come close. If I have one complaint, though, it’s that the beef’s texture doesn’t quite have that slow-simmered, soaking-in-au-jus texture that Al’s does. Rather, it’s sliced more like a deli-sandwich, which makes the texture a little tougher. That said, Chicago Gyros’ jus? Phenomenal. It’s a great flavor, right there, that makes me wish I was heading home to PA or headed north to Chicago. So delectable, so tasty. I’d sip it from a cup. Jules’ meal, as well, was particularly appealing. She had a «gyro dog» which featured gyro meat and tzatziki sauce right on the dog itself. Neat concept, which she really enjoyed. Another high point were the fries, which were very obviously hand-cut and fried perfectly. They reminded me of fries from Kennywood amusement park back in Pittsburgh. That’s really about the highest compliment I can give – this place reminds me of home.

Hubby and I went to Chicago Gyros and Dogs for my first time today. He works close to there and has gone there for lunch before. I had the gyro dog and hubby had the Chicago Polish. Both were good and then we decided to share a Sweet Pita for dessert. As for my diary problem, I asked and the hot dog buns are dairy free. OF course the sweet pita had caramel and I doubt the pita is dairy free(didn’t ask), but as little as I had it didn’t bother me either.

I’m pretty picky about my gyros. And in general, a traditionalist when it comes to one of my favorite foods. However, since my guy had already ordered the standard gyro, I decided to go out on a limb and go with the Kickin Fingerlickin Chicken Pita. It.was.AWESOME. The perfect blend of spice, tzatziki sauce, and fresh veggies smothered on top of chicken and served in a toasted pita, they knocked it out of the park with this one. While we would normally try each others’ meals, we had both inhaled our dinners well before we could offer or ask(so I’d venture to say his gyro was tasty too!) We both got fries — him the cheesy and me the Greek. It seems like they lost their crunch in our quick commute home with the take out. A little too soggy for my taste, but I’m sure they’d be better for dine in. The dogs looked amazing. If I manage to ever venture away from the Kickin Chicken, I am definitely trying one of them!
