Excellent dogs and better fries — thick cut. For two people get one large order, not two small, cheaper and still more fries than you can eat. Salads available.

Friendly staff that even offered to swap their buns for a gluten free one(if you bring one). Puppy dogs are tasty and great on the go. Chili dog was tasty and the cheese was awesome. Fries are huge and hand cut, one is more than enough!

Franks and Frites is located in the same mini-mall as Gut Reaction to the left of Palmers Market in Darien. A small storefront at the end of the row welcomes guests with a «Hand Cut Fries» in the window, while the interior allows for ten guests at tables and another eight on stools. You order from the two men in the rear of the restaurant and they bring the food to your table in plastic picnic baskets. I ordered a hot dog with a little mustard, a little sauerkraut and a little green relish, a bacon cheeseburger, medium-rare, and a small order of fries. The dog in a basic potato roll arrived first, and the first item I noticed was that it was smothered in the three items I ordered«a little» of. The dog was griddled and offered a good snap when bitten into. The dog was salty and a basic dog, maybe a Sabrett’s. The sauerkraut and relish were non-descript, and the yellow mustard was as well. There was nothing special about this hot dog, other than loads of toppings. The burger was in the same category. I ordered medium-rare and it arrived medium-well. Two strip of overcooked basic bacon and a single slice of un-melted American cheese sat atop the patty, all encased inside another potato roll. The meat was bland and unseasoned, the bacon and the cheese(you have to melt the cheese please) were basic and the roll was cold. The fries were not even that good. They were un-seasoned, and while they were brown on the exterior, half were still hard on the interior. Neither of these items were worth more than a few bites. There is no ketchup or mustard on the tables and they have the dispensers in one corner. There was a place for the brown mustard but none was available on my visit, not that it would change my point of view. I really wanted to like this place, but basic dogs and burgers and less than basic toppings on cold rolls served with under-cooked fries for $ 20 is not a place I would run back to.

This is the restaurant I’ve been looking for: creative hot dogs at a reasonable price. The bonus was the good-looking hamburgers. I had two hotdogs. My wife had a hamburger. The Carolina Franks were good, all-beef franks with a hearty beanless chili, and with a creamy tastes cole slaw on the frank. Very tasty. There were many other franks on the menu but I was full after the two substantial franks. I barely got to try the French fries which i enjoyed very much and would have enjoyed more if I had had more of an appetite. I can’t wait to go back.

As a Dutch Family we were pleasantly surprised to have found a real«SNACKBAR» with our traditionally Dutch«Frikandel, Kroket, Bitterbal» and Handcut Fries in a ‘Puntzak”. Nice to have found a place after 5 years with our favourite Dutch snacks! But the menu is so much more! We will return soon ;-)

NOTVEGGIEFRIENDLY I tried their portobello burger as my meat eating boyfriend loves their hot dogs. The portobello cap was small, cold and had been soaked in vinegar. It seriously was like biting into solid vinegar, and it upset my stomached much like drinking pure vinegar would have. I have no idea why you would do that to a portobello, and why you would not include that in the description if you do.

Nice idea. Multiple designated dogs such as their take on the Chicago dog, etc. dogs are better than average. Frites are different than traditional French fries as they are cut thicker and are more similar to crusty mashed potatoes. They will need to bring their game to the next level or this place will be history. Certainly the quality of the dogs and the frites is not up to their premium pricing.

So bad, dogs clearly sitting toasting for ages, tough to begin with as they are thin with skin but then when over-cooked so long simply too tough to eat. Fries on the other hand undercooked raw in middle. Overpriced bad food won’t be back.

Nothing special about this place. Hot dog on a potato roll. I’d be surprised if they are in business by next summer. Had the Noroton Dog and it was ok. Fries need to be cut thinner. I doubt I will go back.

Fresh ingredients at great prices. Handcut fries with curry ketchup were a nice addition to the thick’n’juicy burger and fully loaded dogs around. Give it a try and you’ll see why it deserves 5 stars.

Best dog in the area! Fresh cut fries are great as well. I had the Noroton Chili dog. Loved it. The mayo that came with the fries was perfect. Looking forward to trying more, especially the Curry Wurst. Lots of gourmet toppings for the dogs as well. Place was so clean you could eat off the floor. I think I saw Mexican Coke in the cooler, but I went with the old school bottle of orange Fanta. A little bit pricey, as 2 dogs, 1 order of frites, and 2 sodas were $ 18. The quality of the food was so good, I really wasn’t disappointed.
