had breakfast and ordered an omelette with veggies. Nothing outstanding. Diner quality. Lots of seating in front patio. Good customer vice. Good price for the zip code. Just not overly impressed with food. Not sure about the Bakery goods though.

This review is based upon The Danville Firehouse Station Grill that has since taken over what used to be the Rising Loafer. After running a few errands, I realized I needed to get something to eat. I again wanted to keep within my modest lunch spending budget, so after noticing this place and checking out there reasonably priced menu, I decided I found my spot. This new grill is in the slow transition period of taking over and renovating what used to be The Rising Loafer and you can certainly tell. The place as far aesthetic beauty goes, was quite displeasing. And if it weren’t for how packed the place was and how friendly the servers were, I probably would of gone else where based upon that alone. I got a table inside the somewhat rundown joint. The lady server who was assisting me, was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Not quite sure what to get, I just decided to get the Grilled Chicken and Avocado sandwich with tomato. It comes with your choice of buns, as well as a choice of a side. Through proper guidance from my server, I went with a soft garlic style bun that she recommended. I also chose onion rings for my side. The sandwich arrived in less than 10 min appearing quite gynormous in size! The buns were huge and there turned out to be two grilled chicken breasts within. The flavor and softness of the bun were fantastic. The chicken was also seasoned quite well however, slightly dry. The tomatoes tasted incredibly fresh and were quite vibrant in color. I also thought the onion rings were absolutely tasty. Total with tax came to $ 10 and some change. Despite the semi-under construction atmosphere, the food was decent, the prices were reasonable and the service was top notch. May just come back and visit after they are complete with the transition.

My first visit to this restaurant for brunch with my kids today. Let me just say the service was so slow, inattentive and disorganized that it became comical. We had to ask at least 3 times for water, it was never clear exactly who out waitress was so we started asking any waitress who we could hail for butter(for the over cooked pancakes), ketchup(we had an empty bottle on our table) and asked at least twice for our order of potatoes. As. I looked around the room I saw other diners experiencing similar frustration and waitresses apologizing. I understand they are under new management so I’m hopeful they can pull their act together and fix the service. The food itself was pretty good except for the overdone pancakes.

Great breakfast place. Many options for classic breakfast types. They had an espresso machine which is always a plus-the mocha’s were great. Also, they make their own bread! The banana bread that came with my breakfast burrito was a huge highlight! The breakfast burrito itself was okay. Had a ton of avocado which was delicious, but the chorizo was very greasy. Overall a fairly good, fairly cheap breakfast. Outside seating which is great since the weather is warming up!

The atmosphere is easy-going, the tables are cheap plastic and the placemats are paper. If you’re looking for a cheap, tasty breakfast, this shouldn’t matter. Choose your own seats is nice, on weekend mornings this means getting a decent spot out front to people watch. Cali style breakfast burrito was generous with the avocado(always a good sign.) Steak & Eggs breakfast plate, included my choice of hash browns and fresh-baked sourdough toast. The breakfast plate was satisfying for a lover of the meat-eggs-toast-potatoes combo. The Win: Mochas, Fresh Bread. The Lose: Steak was 30% fat and a bit too greasy

They make huge killer sandwiches and the free rolls and bread are wonderful. The salads look good too. Service was fast, frequent and pleasant — kept drink refills coming. Prices are lower than you would expect. My only complaint is something beyond the control of the restaurant — the place is filled with elderly loud-talkers and young mommies who don’t control their little toddlers.

TERRIBLE. TERRIBLESERVICE. DIRTYINSIDE. NASTY. Sooo disappointed. I went once before and don’t recall it being so dirty feeling and the. terrible service. Out waitress was nice when she remembered us but she was busy talking to the other servers. The food was ok not horrible but the potatoes were luke warn and omelette a bit greasy. The banana bread was tasty but looking in the kitchen was disheartening. Dirty, food on the floor and unsanitary. I won’t go back and iI would suggest people don’t even try it. Get it together people. It’s Danville. There are too many other places to eat for you to take patrons for granted. Shame on you.

Had high hopes. This place is perfectly located between my and my sisters houses. Server was super nice, place was clean and seemed popular with lits of folks there We met for brunch and used a living social deal. Very cute snd great service but the food wasn’t very good at all. Neither of us finished our meals. I had French toast but it was very dense znd had either raisins or walnuts – I couldn’t tell. And the bread itself was grainy znd soggy. The bacon and mimosas were good. my sister had joe’s special –eggs with country potatoes. So much butter you could see it pooled on her plate. It would be better if they just kept it simple.

Had breakfast at Rising Loafer for the first time this morning. We had a giant veggie omelet that was gushing with delicious cheesy goodness, and a waffle combination that was great value at $ 8.95 with two chicken apple sausages and an egg. As noted by other reviews, the bread was scrumptious. Today was a quiet Tuesday morning at the beginning of winter, and as a result it wasn’t busy. The service was nice and the food came out quickly– I’ve seen the restaurant very busy on weekends with nice weather when the outside tables are full, so perhaps the issue with waiting noted in other reviews applies to busier times.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Where to begin; let’s just say I almost never leave food behind, can look past most things and give people and places the benefit of the doubt. That being said: My husband and I sat in the side dinning room next to the kitchen. He ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered two eggs, bacon and hash browns. We were starving and staring at the pass(kitchen ready counter). My husband was so excited to see his order placed on the pass. Then the real waiting started. Five, ten, almost fifteen minutes it sat there. By the time it got to the table it was ice cold and the hollandaise sauce has started to coagulate. Needless to say most of it was left behind. On to my basic eggs, bacon and hash browns. My plate came with diced potatoes instead of hash browns on a plate of grease. I literally used two napkins to sop up the puddle on my plate. The bacon actually dripped when I picked it up. Gross! My eggs were slimy and even the toast wasn’t that good. We ended up leaving way more than half of our breakfasts on our plates. The woman who seated us was friendly enough. Our waitress on the other hand was indifferent and pretty much just dropped our plates in front of us and never came back until we asked for our check. What we’ve learned is we will never come back here and more importantly never go to a new spot without checking Unilocal first!

This is the second time I’ve eaten at the Danville location. My first experience wasn’t great(slow service) but I’m all about giving second chances, especially when supporting local business. Service: Needs improvement We were able to find seating right away outside on the patio, but it took over 10 minutes for someone to bring us a menu and order drinks. The food was delivered by someone who didn’t even make eye contact(she basically dropped the plates off and turned around) so it took another 10 minutes for me to catch someone else’s attention and request jelly and a spoon. They didn’t check on us again until we were done. It wasn’t terribly busy, so I’m not sure what the issue was. Everyone that worked there seemed like they were doing court mandated community service, rather than their job. Food: Not great My daughter’s pancake and egg was overcooked, but luckily with enough syrup, she didn’t seem to care… but I did. I ordered two eggs poached and they were not drained properly — strong vinegar taste and overdone. There were also lots of burned brown bits in my potatoes(from someone not scraping the grill between batches). And again, it looked like someone just slapped the right portions on the plate — no attention to detail. I want to like this place, but with so many other options(Valley Medlyn’s is two doors down and a 100% better experience), I can’t see myself returning or referring anytime soon. I hope management reads this and makes the proper improvements.

We tried this restaurant on a Monday afternoon, around 1:30 pm. The place was busy but the outdoor seating looked appealing and the wait staff was attentive. The menu looked good, though we thought it a poor choice that they stop serving breakfast at 11 am. We tried a quiche and two sandwiches. The food was truly tasteless, and the portions were small. I’m not sure the last place I ate such bland food. So, perhaps having just a beer or a coffee here, sitting outside and people watching, would be good; but stay away from the food.

Honestly, this used to be one of our favorite places to go to for brunch… but lately things seems to have gone DOWNHILL. We used to come here almost every Saturday, however our last time here, we have decided to no longer come back. Service has gotten slower & food has gotten bad. Our last trip here(2⁄25), we sat forever waiting for our order to be taken, or to even be acknowledged. On 2/25, BF got the chorizo burrito, dad-in-law got the mushroom omelette & I ordered the chicken salad. Well, 25 minutes in, the waitress decides to tell the BF that they are out of flour tortillas, but they can make a skinless burrito & give him corn tortillas. He told her to cancel his order, so he sat there for lunch with no food. The dad-in-law made a comment that his mushroom omelette only had, like, 4 mushrooms in it & my salad was just meh. We had mentioned this to the hostess & all she could say was, «do you normally come on another day? Maybe you got a different cook.» Really? How about, I’m so sorry, let me let the manager know. Mind you, we only come on Saturdays. Additionally we asked her if the management has changed and she says, «Not since I’ve been here,»… and she’s freaking new! It saddens me to have to give such a poor review, since this place has really good sandwiches & the BF loves their sausage, biscuit & gravy. But I guess it’s on to the next place. :-(

I’ve only ben here for breakfast and each time it’s been decent. It’s nothing to write home about. I’ve had eggs benedict twice and they were acceptable. I’ve had a cookie or two and they were average. I guess because there are so many place to go for breakfast in the area that are above average, I’d just rather go elsewhere.

Dined here twice now and it’s pretty OK… the only reason we went is we had a discount coupon to use, otherwise we’d normally skip this place since brunch spots in danville/SR/Alamo are plentiful and much more memorable. one good reason to eat here is we can take our dog on the patio, so that’s one redeemable factor. Saturday AM was cold so we walked to downtown with our dog all bundled up, so it was tolerable… i ordered the huevos rancheros, pretty darn tastey. the bf had the eggs benedict which he said were forgettable. both meals came with a huge slice of banana brade which we took to go. my hot chocolate helped keep me warm and i tried to eat fast so my food stayed warm :) my one real complaint? we asked for our hasbrowns well done/extra crispy, and they were anything but… which is really disappointing, we didn’t ask for anything different when it came to ordering. just that one«special request» and they still got it wrong. hash aside, i enjoyed the huevos and they got my eggs right since i ordered is over easy which was great.

I have been living in Danville for 8 years now and have eaten at several downtown restaurants. This place is literally a hole in the wall. This is my 3rd or 4th time here at the Rising Loafer and unfortunately. My last. It’s a darn shame too. We really liked it the first time we went and it’s been going downhill since. My girlfriend and I came in about 2PM on Sunday. The place was full out front but empty on the inside. We don’t like outside seating so we opted to eat inside. We both were hungry for some breakfast. My girlfriend ordered two eggs scrambled well done and a side of fresh fruit. I am a big fan of crepes so I was excited about the Strawberry and Banana Crepes for 8.95. I don’t like bananas but my GF does so I ordered them on the side. When the waitress took my order she said to me «I don’t think you know what you’re ordering, those aren’t pancakes». I was shocked. I looked up at her and said«I know exactly what they are I order them all the time». I also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes since they don’t server hash browns. When our food came my GFs eggs were watery, almost like buffet eggs. A well done scrambled egg is the easiest to cook. They managed to mess it up. My crepes came with bottled whipped cream and they were stone cold and flaky. These were like crispy tortillas it was horrible. Then the mushy gray bananas on the side were awful. The breakfast potatoes looked like they were dipped in rosemary and were also cold and hard as a rock. I was so disappointed. We just sent the food back, left $ 5 on the table and left. We ended up going down the street to Country Waffles where the chef knows how to make a proper breakfast.

The appeal of freshly baked bread, especially on-site, always gets to me! But in the end, I thought it was okay. Expectantly, downtown Danville is very shee shee, frou frou. In these types of areas, the food is usually always superb and overpriced and I found that Rising Loafer didn’t really fall into either category. I got to try the Joe’s Special which is basically three eggs scrambled with onions, spinach, and Italian sausage. You can probably make this at home. The side of potatoes were good and the highly anticipated bread was just okay. It was some brown bread with nuts and cinnamon. Tasted a bit dry — maybe day old? I tried my friend’s Eggs Benedict was tasted normal. The plus is the homemade English muffin, nicely crisp. The biggest surprise for us was the oatmeal which I actually enjoyed. It comes with brown sugar, raisins, milk, and some of that same bread. I went on a weekday around brunch time and we were the only ones there. Service was really good but it’s also impossible to ignore the only people in your restaurant. I like the surrounding area because it’s nice for a stroll but not sure if I’d come back here.

I hadn’t eaten here in almost ten years and I often overlook it while eating in the Ville. It was my friend’s idea and remembering how my other friend used to work here in high school and wanting to check it out, we went for it. I arrived first and was given a basket of fresh baked rolls and immediately dug right in. They were delicious — soft, doughy, warm, and lightly herb scented. All that was missing was fresh whipped butter — they had the little slats in aluminum paper. By the time my friend arrived I had killed off two rolls already, no small feat. We hadn’t seen each other in three years, and before that almost seven, so we had a lot of catching up to do. The waitress came over about 3 times asking to take our order as we profoundly apologized that we hadn’t looked yet. Finally we both decided on the chicken salad, and our waitress was no where to be found… When we got our food everything looked fresh although a bit sparse, and there were no red grapes as stated in the menu. Why do they always have to leave a pertinent ingredient out of my salads in Danville? Well, the salad was still good, filled with avocado, fruit, veggies, a sliced chicken breast — I finished the whole thing. I was satisfied with my meal and I think this place was a good choice. We got to sit outside and enjoy the passersby, minus the occasional and almost all too frequent passing of an insanely loud and ostentatious motorcycle or sup-ed up car stereo system. Other than that, good salad, OK service and prices. I will come back for a casual lunch.
