This review is for April and like the other people on these reviews I can’t say enough good things about my experience with her. I also bought the Local Gruv because I really do love that it’s all Tri-​Valley businesses and I was looking for a new hair stylist. She was wonderful. I too felt that she gave me so much attention, more than I think I’ve ever gotten before during the many years I’ve been having my hair highlighted and styled. She only worked with me. Listen to what I wanted and fixed a horrible previous cut I had, trying to find a new stylist, that went so wrong. She also gave me wonderful highlights and added some low lights without even charging me extra.
She was easy to talk to and I felt immediately like we would be friends outside of her salon. She made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in, even though I was a few minutes late due to a bad accident on the freeway. I will definately be going to her for all my future hair needs. I explained to her that I’m not an every few weeks kind of customer, more like an every few months type, and she was just fine with that. I really appreciate Local Gruv helping me to find a great new stylist. And of course, Thank you April for a great hair experience! See you in a couple months!

Found Joelle (sp??) through Unilocal a couple of months ago & got a haircut. Seemed good then, but the real test is that now (two months+ later) it still seems good. In fact, it really aged well & I want to keep the top much the same as it is now with trimming/​shaping only around the ears and at the neck. This was a great haircut; not one of those that looks like garbage after a few weeks! I revisited Unilocal as I had lost the phone info and this review seemed necessary.

This review is a bit overdue. I bought a deal on Local Gruv for full highlights, haircut, and style with April. I was hesitant at first because of a previous experience with buying deals for highlights (basically a huge waste of money), but was optimistic after reading so many 5 star reviews about April.
Highlights: If you’re unsure about how to highlight your hair, don’t fret! April will help you out with her nifty sample hair color book and years of experience coloring hair. She explained to me the different ways hair can be highlighted and how each method gets a slightly different result. I got caramel highlights and I LOVE them. Aside from the fact that it’s comforting to know that she really does know what she’s doing, she doesn’t skimp on the highlights. My hair is now highlighted evenly throughout.
Haircut: She gave me THE BEST layers I have ever gotten. If you have her layer your hair, ask her to do the triangle thing. You don’t need to know the details. Just ask for it. You’ll like it.
Style: Usually, when I get my hair cut, the styling part ends up being just a quick blow dry. It’s like the hair stylists got tired from cutting my hair because there’s so much of it, but not April. She used a diffuser instead of a regular blow dryer on my hair. (Side note: In my 22 years of life, I never knew my hair could get so wavy and voluminous.) Then she used a curling iron on some pieces to clean it up and gave me nice beachy waves instead of the ringlets that some stylists tend to give.

I tried 3 other hair stylists after moving to the East Bay before I found April. She is by far the best stylist I have ever used and is also reasonably priced. She made me feel comfortable from the moment I came in and she is a perfectionist, paying great attention to detail and explains things so a layman like me can understand. I highly recommend April!!!

I highly recommend Joelle at JM Studio Salon in Danville. I had been going to a large, loud salon close by in Danville, paying more than double the price and getting less than half as, good looking, easy to style hair. I did a search on Unilocal and although she didn’t have hundreds of reviews, she had the best ones, so I thought I would try her out. I received 2 compliments the same day I had my hair done.
Joelle is so easy going and down to earth, I immediately felt comfortable with her. I asked her if she would make any changes to the color or cut, and let her know that I work in the financial sector, which tends to be conservative. She really listens to her clients and the result is better than I could have imagined. I love that the salon is quiet, over looks the trees and has ample parking.

Review is a couple weeks overdue. but better late than never. I bought a haircut and color from Local Gruv for JM Studios Salon.
I had been going to a very well-​known salon in the Walnut Creek area but I was getting tired of driving out there from Pleasanton, sitting in chair for two hours and then driving back home, it was taking up half of my day.
I purchased the Local Gruv deal after reading all the positives reviews about April on Unilocal.Although I was a little apprehensive about having someone new cut/​color my hair I was up for the change. so glad that I went. April was great, courteous, kind, professional. I have never been to a salon where I get 100% attention from my colorist. in this case, you get all of April’s undivided attention — she didn’t rush the session, she wasn’t trying to squeeze someone else in while my hair was processing. It was one on one and it was an amazing experience, I love the color and cut was great. next time (yes, I have booked my next appointment with her) we are going to go for something a bit of the «box» for me. and I can’t wait.
I highly recommend you giving April the opportunity to cut/​color your hair, you will not be disappointed.

This review is so much overdue. I had a wedding a couple of months ago and needed someone at the last minute, so a friend suggested I tried April at JM Studios.
She fit me in her schedule so that I had plenty of time before the wedding and she did a great job. I showed her a pic of the dress I would have been wearing and told her I wanted my hair up. I looked very sophisticated, got a lot of compliments at the wedding. She used this new threading technique, no pins, so my hair stayed up, looked soft and I went to sleep late that night without worrying about my head itching.
I am going to make an appointment for a new hair do soon.
She has a very sweet personality and she really does her best to make you look fabulous before leaving the salon.

I don’t write too many Unilocal reviews but I just had to highly recommend April Saxe today after my haircut. I went to April with a Local Gruv deal and I am so pleased with the results. The hair color looks fabulous and the highlights are just right very soft and natural looking. I thought she was just going to do a few highlights but no she did a pretty nice amount. The cut looks just like the pic I showed her too. It’s not just that I love my hair but I really enjoyed my conversation with April and the fact that she wasn’t rushing to get me out of there. I am a stay at home mom and I don’t get to pamper myself much so this was a special treat. I plan to go back and recommend April to my friends.

I am thrilled I found this salon on Unilocal!I have been going to premium salons in the area for the past several years, and shelling out big bucks. I couldn’t afford to keep it up and thought I would try Joelle at JM Salon based on the reviews here, and the lower price point. I took a risk and boy, did it pay off. My highlights & lowlights look top rate, and my cut is sassy (just the way I like it!). I have gotten loads of compliments, and it was literally HALF the price I was paying before at the fancier salons. Plus, Joelle is a wonderfully nice, down to earth person. I felt like she really wanted to give me great hair, and my happiness was important to her. I highly recommend Joelle!!!

Went to April with a Local Gruv deal so was nervous (as I have done them before & it was just ok) but she was friendly & knowledgable. The salon is just her & you so is a different kind of vibe & the two us talked the whole time. She really cared about what I wanted & how to make me happy. She gave lots of styling tips & ideas for my hair. She didn’t try to talk me into cutting my long hair like others do either!
I got great compliments on my long layers & peekaboo underneath highlights I had shown her a picture of and she recreated. Even had a friend go to her days later & she loved April & her cut too!
She is building her client list after moving here to CA recently so I will keep sending people get way!

Tried April after finding a Local Guru coupon. I was really nervous. She put me at ease, asked lots of questions, and ultimately gave me a great cut, color and highlight, with a tutorial on how to easily do my hair for everyday and fancy occassions. Couldn’t be happier!

I had a great haircut here last week. My hair was cut by Samantha, she does an excellent job and pays attention to detail and knows what she’s doing. The salon is clean and well put together, it’s by appointment so no waiting. This is new ownership for 2012. I would recommend supporting this local small business.
