We found BJ’s on Unilocal while passing through on 80. Unsure of what to expect but encouraged by the reviews we read, we were blown away by a perfect, old school done right experience. The classic dark panelled bar served up succulent oysters as we chatted with locals watching a PennState game, sound turned off —thank you! The Big Band selections set the ideal mood as we waited for a table. We were escorted to a lovely upstairs dining room, all dark panelling, and received excellent service. Our meal included a plate of crab cakes and the Chicago steak, all served in a timely fashion and to spec. Just delicious! BJ’s is nestled in the heart of a beautiful restored downtown stretch of Mill Street, clearly well loved and cared for, Skip the chains and go here, you won’t be sorry!

Good food at a reasonable price. We enjoyed. Service was adequate. Would return. Would like salad to have a few more items in it.

Visiting from chicago so I wasnt expecting much in the small town. Food was okay, not the best food Ive had. The frickles, fried pickles was actually pretty good. Cant compare to fried pickles in the south but they did a good job. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, came with fries and coleslaw. Pulled pork sandwich was nothing special. Fries it came with was good. Its an average restaurant in a small town, but probably couldnt compete well in a big city.

Best restaurant in Danville. I wish they would work on a few vegetarian options, for those who do not eat meat, but don’t want a salad for dinner. The bar is nice, they have a decent wine selection, and it is one of the only places you can get something nicer than a burger or pizza in the area. Their raw bar is my favorite part. Oysters! Yum!

Decided to check this place out based on my fellow Unilocalers reviews. I have to say I wasn’t too impressed– maybe I should have stuck with a burger. The crab soup was good, although larger chunks of meat instead of shreds would have been nice. I also went against my personal policy about caprese salad in winter and thought I’d try theirs. Why? Because it was described as having oven roasted tomatoes so I was envisioning warm tomatoes with fragrant basil and soft mozzarella. What I got was three slices of previously roasted, but now semi frozen tomatoes topped with a sliver of mozzarella and a whisper of basil. Even the fork was chilled– ick. Moving on to the entrée… Smoked dry scallops and«Asian green beans». I have concluded smoked scallops is a bad idea and these were clearly not fresh, nor dry. And soaking green beans in a soy sauce brine, and then sprinkling with soggy almonds does not make the most appealing veg side. I so wanted to like this place but I can’t go past two stars. Maybe my next trip to this area will be more fruitful. Mo

After a day of hiking in Ricketts Glen State Park, we were ready for a good meal. Luckily, BJ’s delivered. The ribs here were fantastic, the scallops were good. Good beer list(Franziskaner was enjoyed), wine and drink lists also looked great. Service was friendly, although a tad slow at times, as it was Saturday night and the place was packed.

Nothing better than when you are in a town like Danville and dining options are limited, that there is a place like this! GREAT service, nicest staff to hang out with. amazing food! I hope I land in Danville again soon to get to eat here!

Best restaurant in town. The staff makes me feel like I’m home every time I show up. It’s classy, yet retains a laid back feel without the pretension… Think fine-dining without the snobby staff. As for the food itself? Speechless. The menu is an adventurous spin on many American classics. Familiar yet with a home town twist. Start with the Oysters, devour the Bedford Scallops, and top it all off with the most delicious Pie you’ll eat all year… And that’s a guarantee, otherwise your meal is on me.

Oh dear! Who on earth is in the kitchen of this restaurant? My husband and I dined there this weekend and were deeply disappointed. First off, I should say my husband, for a variety of reasons, does not eat red meat. But in the past, he’s been happy with the seafood and chicken he’s had there. He ordered the crab cakes and I got the Mac and cheese with applewood smoked bacon. When my entrée came out, my heart sank. No creaminess, just dry looking penne with occasional blobs of cheese and chunks of half-rendered bacon lubed up with copious amounts of bacon grease. My husband’s crab cakes were seemingly lukewarm and he complained of a weird texture. Ripping them apart with his fork, he found bacon inside the crab cakes. Seafood devotees will tell you this is a no no, but what made matters worse was that this ingredient was not listed on the menu at all… A big issue for those who do not eat pork. To their credit, they took the crab cakes off the bill. Oh, and the tomato fennel soup was okay. I guess I just expected more from a restaurant I used to really enjoy.

Stopped in for dinner after a day @ Knoebels before going to our hotel in Danville. I’m not sure why but I decided to have mussels at a steakhouse but I did and they were quite good. A tad too much wine for my taste but it didn’t stop me from eating them all. I think I always order mussels whenever I see them on a menu because I love mussels and you usually get a lot of them. While my portion size was not huge, it was accompanied by some tasty garlic bread and plenty of broth PLUS, not a drop of sand. That would ruin the whole dish for me. Mussels in a steakhouse… delicious. My husband had a burger, which he said was excellent and cooked perfectly. The service was very good and the best value by far, was from the kid’s menu. For $ 3.95, my niece had a very large and beautiful grilled cheese sandwich, a side of fries and apple sauce plus a large soft drink. You can’t beat that deal. I would definitely go back to BJ’s Steak & Rib House and next time, maybe I’ll order a steak.

This place is one of my favorites, the lobster bisque is my husband’s all time favs! Had the crab stuffed shrimp and it was a little over cooked, otherwise everything was excellent.

We were on our way to Penn State to visit our daughter. Found this place through Unilocal.Very nice cozy atmosphere and excellent service. We had pulled pork sandwiches. They were delicious and came with homemade cole slaw and fries. The coffee was good and it came in an individual French press. The waitress recommended chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert(only served around Valentine’s Day.) The menu goes from sandwiches and salads to fancy entrees. Can’t give it 5 stars until we try the place again on our next trip.

BJ’s is one of the better restaurants/bars in the area. It’s a bit pricey but mostly worth it. I recommend the Big Bubba’s Shrimp(ask for them extra spicy) and the Snicker’s Pie for dessert! The home-brewed BJs ale is pretty good too and if you’re feeling adventurous get the BJ’s Bomber– it’s huge and potent.

Years ago my wife and I used to enjoy the meals here. Today I’m happy to report the food was as outstanding as we remembered. From the delicious crab dip(unfortunately too small a serving) and hot and tasty Lobster Bisque it was a great meal. The French Roquefort marinated Butch Block Steak was absolutely fantastic. This had to be one of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted. Overall high prices are backed by fresh, well prepared and served dishes. I will be back when in the Danville area.

Following my son’s graduation from Bucknell University down the road, we decided to have a casual dinner here at BJ’s. It was a good choice. Street parking was plentiful, but it was a Sunday evening. Menu choices were a multitude of rib and meat choices. I had the Chicago Steak and it was well-prepared with a tasty seasoning. Everyone else raved about their steak and/or ribs. Our waiter was delightful. He was friendly and attentive, which added to an already festive evening. I was able to find BJ’s on Open Table. I’m glad I did.

This is the place for meat-atarians. The burgers are house-ground daily and great for a full lunch. For dinner, the barbeque, ribs and aged steaks are the best in the area. The atmosphere is also nice with plenty of dark wood and a general blues music theme. Definitely ask for the aquarium table right next to the hostess’ stand if you can get it. BJ’s is a little bit more expensive than other restaurants in the area, but consistently excellent with service and food quality.

Stopped here because I don’t know the area and it was highly rated on Unilocal and I don’t know the area. The other choice was a brewpub just down the block, and I thought my wife and 5YO son would appreciate the variety here more than at a brewpub. The area is very nice with some small stores. We were seated fast and the booths are very private. They have a booth with a large fish tank, which we didn’t sit at becaues there was a part of 5 that was sitting there for a long time, but if you can get that seat, it’s probably really fun for kids. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I got the BBQ sampler, which was great. All the food is tasty. My son got the personal pizza. I couldn’t tell if it was a frozen mass produced item or made locally(I suspect it was a foodservice item). My BBQ, was, however, very good and obviously made there. No complaints, and my wife gave me credit for finding a good place(thanks Unilocal!) We walked around the area to shop and felt safe in the neighborhood. Note: we happened to get seated right away, but that is probably because we were there on a tuesday night(and it was still pretty full!). I definitely recommend making a reservation before going. I would consider this a 3 star establishment.

I got the Frickles(fried pickles) which were awesome! I’m used to a thinner slice of the pickle, but these thicker ones pack that pickle crunch as well as the crisp from being fried. Pulled work was also really good. I was pleasantly surprised on how good it was, being all the way up in Danville. The only thing missing for me was some sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, but it was still delicious without it. Would I do it again? Of course!

I drive 6 hours to Danville, PA twice a year and this is a favorite stop of ours. Nestled in the old downtown area you will find BJ’s Steak & Ribs. With a variety of great local brews like Lionshead and Yuengling on tap, you can’t go wrong. Then they serve it up with a casual yet trendy décor and ribs and steak that is hard to beat. I recently had the steak and half rack. Both served to perfection and had a house salad and delicious sweet coleslaw on the side. The service was friendly and just top notch. It was so good that we left a 40% tip. Here’s to good customer service! You rarely find that any more.
