There is a HUGE selection of baked goods and other items. They do a great job with keeping everything organized. You can get a little overwhelmed with all that they have to offer, but it’s set up in a way where you can walk in, walk down the line of selection, and go to the register right after(kind of like a cafeteria style). All the baked goods are amazing and smell fresh. The only reason why I’m hesitant on not giving more than 3 stars is that none of the employees acknowledge you when you walk in OR explain any of their products. I’m not new to this place, but I can imagine that new customers wouldn’t know to grab a bag and tongs to select their own baked goods. There needs to be someone there to explain this whole process. I think it would make the line go by more smoothly; I sometimes see people walk in and not know what to do. But other than that. I love the food here ! Great for snacks, or lunch! And if you need a cake for an event(or a slice just for yourself) hey got that too!

Coffee, tapioca milk tea, or a quick snack. This spot is sure to satisfy morning hunger or any occasion when the need for a quick bite. The chicken pot pie is a yes for me with a cup of coffee on the side.

I didn’t actually purchase anything here so the review is for service alone. I went in and decided on my favorite dessert: tiramisu. I was ignored, along with the woman beside me for three full minutes while all three employees cleaned the cases. When they finally realized we were there, she took my order but when I went to pay, refused as they don’t take debit, only cash. I’m not pulling a $ 20 bill out of the bank for a $ 4 item. It’s 2016, get with the program, you greedy jerks! When I asked if they could run it as credit, I was told it’s a $ 10 minimum. Not worth the hassle.

I get their almond croissant every morning and it’s always flaky and perfect. They are always busy and always reliable when I need to grab something quick in the morning to eat before work. Their sandwiches are always fresh and really good.

I’m very impressed with the staff here. They are efficient, courteous, gets the job done, and they even got my Peet’s cappuccino down to the tea! What more can I ask for! Delicious pastries, great service, no wonder Unilocal loves you Sheng Kee! PS — best part — hey are right across 99 Ranch Market, inside the mall. Very convenient. Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

If I’m ever shopping at Westlake and need to get some carbs for a quick boost of energy, Sheng Kee has been my go-to place for that. I’m always tempted to pick up whatever sounds interesting to me. Mostly the savory pastries. Here are some favorites of mine: HOTDOGONIONROLL Hot dog and green onion filling HOTDOGCHEESEBUN Creamy cheddar cheese and hot dogs CHEESEPUFFPORKSUNGBUN Shredded pork filling with a puff pastry crust TOMATOCHEESEDANISH Creamy cheddar cheese and fresh sliced tomatoes HAMANDCHEESEDANISH Ham and cheddar cheese Yeah, as you can see I’m a sucker for hot dogs, pork, and anything with cheese. They’re all not too bad and always hit the spot for me. I haven’t yet had any of their sweet menu items, but I’m sure I will in the future. It’s so easy to get carried away at Sheng Kee, especially if you come in with an empty stomach. Luckily, even if you do get carried away and buy a ton of stuff, everything is pretty affordable and won’t put too much of a dent in your wallet.

I’ve been here a couple of times. Not my favorite Sheng Kee. I like the Sheng Kee bakeries on Irving Street better. The coconut roll which I’ve tried twice here, do not have enough coconut in it. I’ve tried the mini Jasmine moon cake, it was really good with such a nice flavor and scent of Jasmine tea, $ 2.25. This time, I bought 3 other tiny moon cakes to try: 1. Green tea, not as nice as the Jasmine green tea. 2. Oolong tea — much stronger tea flavor, $ 2.25 3. Lotus moon cake with one yolk, $ 3.25. The yolk was too dry. Wouldn’t buy this again. It was close to the end of the day when we were here, so they were getting rid of their egg tarts, 2 for $ 1.50. I prefer their Portugese egg tarts but they were not on sale. This store is like an express Sheng Kee with a limited amount of cakes for sale and slices of cake. If you want a full service Sheng Kee with more options, then the other Sheng Kee bakeries in SF are where you need to go.

This place is a weird little gem in the middle of a massive strip mall. They have some really awesome Asian-style pastries and buns here(highly recommend: the green tea mochi stuffed croissant; I’ve never had anything like it!), which can range from ‘OMGBESTTHINGEVER’ to ‘meh, i’ve had better’ depending on the freshness. Skip anything that needs to be refrigerated(often old, stale) and go straight to the display cases with the buns. They refresh these buns pretty frequently so go for anything that’s just come out of the oven.

Came here since I live so close and tried a little desert. It was all delicious, but also had some that I was not to familiar with. I did not see any samples on display but would love to try all of them

Beware of the freshness! I bought a birthday cake on jun17, 2015 and had it to celebrate my mother’s birthday right away at 5:00. The cake is totally expired! It tasted like decayed sour!!! So I went there to return the cake on the next day, jun 18, 2015. The worker was nice and refund me with no problem. BUT, the reason I got this cake was unforgivable. He told me that the refrigerator was order of order so that couldn’t keep cooling stably! So, why did u guys keep selling something may harm your customers’ stomaches? Shit! I have two kids and two elderly at home. Who pay it if something serious happened? I have wrote a complain letter to their office. Until now, no response at all!!! Beware!

Not really sure what to think of this place, I can’t judge much because i didn’t get something myself but she threw out most of it because of the unusual texture. Cute place though. Loved the cakes shaped like pandas and other bears.

Was in the neighborhood and my friends told me to get a birthday cake for a birthday dinner tonight. I remembered visiting this place a couple months earlier for their pastries. They had a good sized selection of cakes and I decided to get the strawberry whip cream cake. The cake was very moist complemented with sweet strawberries and fluffy whip cream. The total cost of the cake with candles cost 30 bucks. The staff wrote happy birthday on a peice of white chocolate and wrapped the cake in a bow with pink ribbon. It fed our party of 8 and left everybody with a satisfied sweet tooth. Tip: come on off hours because the parking lot can get a little hectic.

The Portuguese Egg tarts are great. They are creamy and have a flaky crust. I also like the apple turnovers and the pineapple buns. The chocolate croissant was a little on the oily side. I like going around and picking my own pastries. There is plenty of free parking. They don’t accept bills over $ 20.

For the convenience and location — this bakery is ok. It meets the needs for your asian baked breads, cakes, and sweets. Price wise it’s not great, most individual breads are priced $ 1.50-$ 3 which is on the higher end for basics like pineapple buns/taro buns/and cream buns. Quality and taste is again average — nothing special but nothing bad either. I would say if you live in the area and don’t want to travel — this place will do. Otherwise make a trip to Paris Baguette, Tous le Jours, Specialty’s, and select chinatown bakeries — much better in terms of quality, taste, and/or price. Min credit card $ 5 and there’s plenty of parking space as it’s located next to Home Depot in the Westlake Shopping mall.

I still don’t trust desserts that aren’t sweet. Sheng Kee is notorious for that heartbreaking disappointment. Having said that, this small yet efficiently laid out Sheng Kee made me pretty happy! I picked a number of savory buns and rolls to eat while strolling around the Westlake Mall. Is it still called that even? I also picked this blueberry half moon thing that I knew wasn’t going to be sweet, but I promise I will die trying to find at least one thing Sheng Kee sells that has a discernable sweetness to it to justify calling it a dessert. The blueberry thing was so good. It was kind of like those weird prepackaged Zinger things — but this was blueberry. Not sweet, light, mild flavored, coconut wasn’t dry. I won’t call this a dessert, but I can say it was good. The setup is like most Asian bakeries. You grab a plastic tray and some tongs. Peer through every case to see which ones make your belly growl and/or mouth water. Use those tongs to pick what you want and put on your tray. Pay the cashier and immediately open your bag to shove a doughy soft yummy something or other into your mouth before your hand reaches for the door to leave. This is how I did it and I was easily the happiest girl to buy a bag of carbs all to myself.

I stopped by hoping to pick up an egg tart or two after grocery shopping at Safeway, but they didn’t have any, so I just settled for a hot HK style milk tea less sweet. For Bay Area standards, this one’s ok. It wasn’t too sweet and had a creamy flavor, but the tea quality wasn’t the best. It wasn’t bold or fragrant enough. On the plus side, it came in a pretty big cup, and it was cheap(less than $ 2). For the price, I could see myself getting one again after shopping. The milk tea at Eggettes is still way better.

Nice little bakery tucked into the corner of Westlake mall Just right off highway 280, this bakery has Everything! Nice, crisp chicken tarts and egg tarts kept inside mini ovens, cold cakes and pastries in the open fridge, and a lot of different asian pastries – just for the pineapple buns alone, there are several kinds(red bean, blueberry, and HK style – probably even more). They even have thai tea and bubble tea, and in hot, cold, or Chubby cups. Talk about variety! In terms of quality, the milk tea was pretty good. The tea tasted smooth, with a lot of milk, and only a tad bit sweet, which is nice. The price was pretty reasonable as well. Add to that the fact the place looks clean and new, and you have a bakery that is worth going back to over and over!
