Good selection of unique baked goods within the Kukje market. Couldn’t tell you what separates it from being Korean but out of the various manju’s, mochi’s, cakes, puffs, and pastries, a couple things caught my eye.( ) *Pizza bread($ 2) — Similar to Japanese treats, more sweet than savory. Little cheese, corn, 2 slices of burnt hot dog it made for an interesting snack.( ) *Peanut cream roll($ 1.25) –Light and airy peanut cream on soft sweet roll, the best Nutter Butter you’ll ever have.( ) *Choco roll —($ 1.25) — The filling was like mocha pudding. It would go good with a coffee, which they do sell as well.( ) — Reminds me of Clover Bakery in SJ. — Doubt they do their baking onsite since the packaging had a San Jose bakery name on it. I love this little corner of the kukje market! Its so homey and bakey and just makes my eyes gloss over! :D I mainly used to come here for cakes and i got to tell you their mocha is BOMB! the only problem is… you really dont know if your cake is fresh, so really, its a $ 30 gamble. Will you win by scoring a delicious fresh cake or will you get salt to the wound by anticipating goodness only to taste soured cake in your mouth? Blech! Damn, thinking about their cake really makes me want one. But the last one i has was fermented… how long must that cake have sat there before i bought it for it to have become so vile? :’( If it was an american bakery im pretty sure i would have brought it back for a refund or exchange. But knowing its an asian bakery — i doubt they would have cared or even done anything to make up for it. But then, i could be wrong so i cant say for sure that they wouldnt have done anything, but im also not the kind of person to return food because i always suspect something special will end up on my replacement. One of these days i may come back… but i would taste the cake in the parking lot and bring it right back if its bad so they cant deny it. Unfortumately, if its a special occaision this would not be an option. *sigh*

This is the independent bakery that’s inside Kukje Market. The buns are in baskets so you help yourself to what you want and pay there. They also sell loaf bread and red bean mochi. I remember not liking the red bean mochi when I had it awhile ago. I haven’t had much luck with Korean sweet rice cake/mochi products. The pumpkin roll wasn’t bad. It was soft and sweet, a triangular twisted bun with a tiny bit of pumpkin purée and little pumpkin flavor. The«French toast» was yummy. It’s extremely thick, as in the width of two or three thick slices and the bread is airy like brioche. The outside is coated with something sugary and buttery. Mmm. It would be really good with coffee. They sell coffee, tea and pearl tea too. Never seen anyone with their pearl tea. I might try it one day. Credit cards accepted. It used to be cash only. You need to pay there at the bakery kiosk.
