This is the worst place ever! Horrible Food! We should have known not to eat the food, when the food didn’t even smell good! Greens taste like Grass Sausage was soggy(how does that happen) Sweet Potatoes were hard(thought I was eating a brick) Chopped beef sandwich was so oily I thought maybe they soaked the brisket in crisco??? Banana pudding was so sour, I was like am I being punked??? And the cornbread, my God I could have threw it and busted a few Windows, it was so hard! Only thing worth rating was the Big Mama Lemonade! This place needs to go out of business!!!

I was recommended to come to this restaurant for some good southern cooking. I visited today and was displeased with everything from the cleanliness of the dining room to the taste of the food. The dressing was pasty, the chicken and cabbage weren’t seasoned(at all). The cornbread was dry but I can say the black eye peas were good and seasoned well. I give this place two thumbs down and I will NEVEREVER return again. It doesn’t deserve the one star that I had to choose to rate this place!

The décor and furnishings are extremely old. Not a place that I would want to «dine in». I just ordered to go. I had the 3 piece catfish with greens and yams. It was good and seasoned well. The tarter sauce is good too. The employees were not over friendly but they were pleasant. I paid $ 9 for my meal… not including a drink

I was craving a chopped beef potato so I took a trip to one of my favs… I ordered my baked potato with everything and asked for the SPICY sauce, omgggggg! It definitely hit the spot! I also grabbed a slice of sweet potato pie as well as a large lemonade. Usually the lemonade is sweet & refreshing but this time I think they used store bought juice from concentrate which I wasn’t too happy about but seeing as though the original reason for my visit was the baked potato, I ignored that small defect with my lunch. Overall, I’m satisfied & will definitely be returning!

Pretty authentic soul food. Didn’t really know what we were walking into, so we were taken aback by the hot, dark dining room with cafeteria style service. The staff were not very helpful or even nice, for that matter and when my mom, who is mentally disabled, had trouble ordering she was snapped at by impatient servers. But, the food was decent. Their sweet potatoes were a standout.

My homie informed me that she was doing a lunch run for some catfish. I’m a Mississippi guy, born and bred, so I know good catfish, and this was as close to my mom’s as I’ve found in a while! I’m a fan… I’ll be going for myself sometime this weekend.

My husband and I dined here yesterday. We were heading to a concert at the pavilion and our other choices nearby were McDonalds and Jack In The Box so we decided to try Two Podners. I ordered the baked potato with chopped beef(brisket.) My husband had the brisket sandwich, sweet potatoes and beans. Regarding the baked potato, it was a decent sized baked potato piled high with brisket, sour cream, cheese, chives, and BBQ sauce. I hate chives but I should have asked what they put on their baked potato so that was my fault. I picked them off. No big deal. The potato wasn’t cooked completely. It was still pretty hard and needed to bake a little longer. The brisket was delicious, but it was so fatty and chewy that it was almost inedible. I picked out what I could and tried to have my dinner. After spitting out two mouthfuls of fat into my napkin, I gave up. My husband’s dinner wasn’t great either. He experienced the same fat situation on his brisket sandwich. His main problem with his meal was the BBQ sauce is based mainly on mustard, which he doesn’t like at all. He said the sweet potatoes were good and the beans were very good. Neither tasted like they were from a can. These two meals, along with a glass of 7up and a glass of sweet tea were about $ 18 and change. I would not eat here again.

I work right across from this place at fair park and it’s my go to lunch area on Wednesdays cause their tetrazzini is the bomb! Their BBQ is alright, too much flavoring and their sausage is a little tough to chew sometimes but their mashed potatoes, beans and rice is great also. But I only go here on Wednesdays for their delicious tetrazzini.

Great food. I sampled the ribs, sliced beef, sausage and took a Bite of my daughters chopped beef sandwich. The brisket had a soft smoky flavor, the sauce was tangy with just a little spice. The sausage was good and I would have it again. Chopped beef was tasty and the kids meal was big enough for an adult. The rubs had a nice crusty bark in one edge and a was vert sift with a nice smoky flavor. The sauce was sweet and mild in spice. I would also try the daily specials that where soul food classics. Very reasonable price and large portions, way better than all the chain BBQ places.

Its been awhile since I’ve been here so maybe my expectations were a lil high. I ordered the rib combo with sliced beef, cabbage and blackeyed peas. The sliced beef was tender and the sauce was yummy sweet n spicy just how I like it. The ribs were okay… some of the edges were a lil dry and not edible. The cabbage was just boiled with a lil garlic salt it tasted like… won’t get again. The black eyed peas were from the can! A soul food bbq place and I’m getting food out the can??? So make sure to ask what is homemade and what’s fresh before u chose your sides I was eyeballing the oxtails when I first got here but decided for bbq. The gentleman behind me ordered them and offered me one. Thank goodness I didn’t get them. They were tough and and dry and under seasoned. Meat a B+ if fresh. Love the bbq sauce! Sides got a D. I know what not to get next time. Hope this helped

Ordinarily I would be worried about a barbecue joint that doesn’t focus solely on smoked meat, but since the only«seafood» they have on the menu is fried catfish, it seemed worth the risk. Judging by the interior setup, coupled with the existing drive-thru, I’m about 98% certain that Two Podners used to be a McDonald’s. It even had the telltale red and yellow booths, which were ragged and nearly falling apart at the seams. I ended up ordering a Combo Plate of ribs and sliced brisket, with sweet potatoes and pinto beans on the side. When I ordered, the server asked if I wanted«mild or hot». I didn’t really understand the question, so I naturally picked hot. She handed me my order, and I soon realized that she was asking about the barbecue sauce which would inevitably be poured all over my meat. Sigh. The beans were tasty with a good amount of salt. The onions and peppers mixed in added no crunch and not much flavor either. It was a decent side dish, but not spectacular. The sweet potatoes were pleasantly sweet and had a good softness to them. That being said, they were nothing to write home about either. I can rarely resist a brisket in any form, sauce or no sauce. There was a good smoke ring and a nice black crust, but even by looking at it I could tell that the brisket was completely dried out. It was tough and chewy, even for a lean cut. As promised, the sauce was rather spicy, which is good because it was the only part of the brisket that had any real flavor. I stopped eating the brisket after only 3 bites. The ribs were tough and chewy, just like the brisket. The thick slathering of sauce precluded any possibility of tasting smoke. I didn’t see any smokey hue to the ribs either, but it could have been hidden by the sauce, so who knows for sure. I managed to salvage half of one rib from the sauce, only to find no flavors other than meat and just a hint of salt. I hate to waste food or money, but today I ended up discarding half of my ribs and ¾ of my brisket, plus the majority of the sides. I almost gave Two Podners two stars solely because of their tasty lemonade, but they don’t deserve it.

Our family ended up here last night completely by accident. Traffic was bad coming into Dallas to see a play at Fair Park and we didn’t have time to look for somewhere to eat. With the four of us, we had a pretty good sampling of the menu. Catfish, bbq, ribs, collard greens, black eyed peas and baked beans. I grew up in the south, so the food here is like comfort food to me. Everything was seasoned excellent and not too salty as you find many places that«try» to cook southern food. There was more food on our plates than any of us should have eaten, but eat it we did! Prices were excellent, service was very friendly and we will be back.

Food(**** out of *****); The brisket is not as smokey nor as soft as Big Al’s but it is definitely twice as good as Dickey’s. The brisket is good. Also, the collard greens are soft and soggy. I don’t know anything about collard greens so I don’t know if this is how it is supposed to be. Therefore, I have no opinion on the collard greens. The sausage is good, too. It is seasoned, perfectly, not too salty. Atmosphere(*** out of *****); cafeteria style, self serve. Service(**** out of *****); when the owner is here, it is really stellar. The guy is really nice and friendly. Conclusion; A good BBQ place. If you’re here for the state fair and feel like BBQ, then this is the place.

Very overated, BBQ was just ok, fried chicken was very greasy and appeared to be old. Sides were just ok.

I am stuffed silly from my unfinished combo plate. Ugh, I’m about to unbutton my pants. It took awhile to take in the menu up at the counter and figure out what the hell I should go with… but I went with the chopped beef and sausage plate with greens and mashed potatoes. Some of my favorite sausage links so far. Chopped beef was a bit fatty but very nice and flavorful. Spicy BBQ was deeeelish! Greens and mashed potatoes were both lacking a bit in flavor, but good enough. Service was nice and friendly, place has a nice vibe even if it once was an old Burger King. That didn’t bother me at all, in fact, I enjoyed seeing those old chairs and booths being put to good use! They work… why get rid of ‘em? Where’s the fun in that? We really really liked this place and we’ll definitely be back… looks like I’ve got to try the peach cobbler next time!

This is the spot for true downhome/soul food. You have baked chicken, beef tips, meatloaf, salsibury steak, cook to order fried catfish… delicious sides with the best mac & cheese… great cobblers. The only reason I bumped it down a star is the environment. I would expect a dive-y place, and I would be ok with that, but this is in an old burger king-same table, chairs… I would rather be in an old run down building with the paint peeling off than at an old burger king. nonetheless, the food is great

We’d just hit Baby Back Shak for ribs and refused to go back home without peach cobbler for dessert(any BBQ joint that doesn’t serve peach cobbler isn’t my BBQ joint-sayin’). In steps Two Podners. We hit the drive-through(win) and ordered our cobbler. As we were waiting for our turn at the window, we realized we had an opportunity to sample two joint’s ribs in one swoop. So, once we got to the window, we upgraded our order to include a ½ lb. of ribs. Here’s where it gets fun. The girl at the window was the cutest thing this side of Robert B. Cullum. She had to ask a couple of times whether we wanted mild or hot ribs(get the hot) because we couldn’t understand her accent. There shouldn’t be a language barrier because we were all speaking English, but there was. She was still adorable. We tried to get fried okra(something else Baby Back Shak didn’t have) but alas, they only have boiled okra. No go. Our ½ lb. of ribs ended up being just 3 ribs, but since we only wanted a sample, this was ok. I liked the flavor of the ribs and the sauce was more along the lines of what I think BBQ sauce should be(thick and smoky, with a hint of sweet). The hot turned out to be not very hot, but it was a nice addition of flavor. My husband wasn’t as impressed, but I think he was still riding the roller coaster of disappointment from our failed mission at Baby Back Shak. The peach cobbler was exactly what peach cobbler should be, nothing great but also more than just ok. This is more like a 3.5-star joint, but until I get a chance to sample more of the menu, I don’t feel the need to upgrade to 4. Two Podners didn’t blow my skirt up but it gave me just enough hope that, one of these days(please sweet baby Jeebus, let it be soon) I’m going to find good BBQ in Dallas.

Despite my intentions to have a salad for lunch today after suckin’ down enough ribs to take out a small farm yesterday, I was advised by Mr. Harris at the African American Museum across the street to check out this place. I tried to resist, I even thought about just driving on by, but for real, I couldn’t disrespect my elder that way and ignore his advice… So this place was probably a chain fast food joint at some point and man, this is a much better use of the space. The food is kind of buffet(they serve you but you can see what is available) style and on the way in we were telling ourselves, okay now let’s get one combo and share it… good for the waist and good for the wallet right? That didn’t last two seconds once I walked in and saw the crispiest fried chicken since big mom’s sitting there calling my name. We each got the chicken plate(all white meat) with a sturdy wing(this bird must have been a hellava flyer — or a fryer;-) and a breast with three sides. My partner had greens, BE peas and yams and I had cabbage, rice(to go with his BE peas) and potato salad. I really liked everything except the cabbage(too bland). The chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned. It was hot like it had just come out of the fryer. All in all the meal was very tasty. Check it out; don’t forget to visit the museum.

Ribs ribs ribs… no wonder Eve was made from a rib… it is by far the tastiest part of any animal. If I had to be made from a chunk of my male counterpart it better damn sure be a rib, and there better be extra spicy BBQ sauce involved cuz I’m extra spicy! Two Podners knows how to make ribs. I had the beef and wasn’t impressed. It was okay. I had the potato salad and it was okay. But the ribs – sweet merciful crap – they were fall-off-the-bone dead-on amazing. Also amazing was the tomato salad. I could have just eaten a big plate of ribs and tomato salad. Next time I will. I also wish I’d tried the beef tips and rice and the roasted chicken. Both looked really good. When you go through the line for food, it’s cafeteria style so you can see everything on the menu that day. Service is super friendly and quick. As a matter of fact, everyone in the place was nice to us. And that was probably a challenge since we referred to two girls 6th grade basketball teams who just won their last games keeping them in the tournament. The kiddos were loud and excited to say the least. Other reviews mention the dodgy area, and don’t let that keep you from making the trip over to Fair Park. It’s perfectly safe and wonderful. The day we were there they were doing taxes and selling Obama t-shirts. Love this place! Ribs? Yes we can!
