Visited on a Saturday night and it was moderately busy. We had reservations and were seated immediately. We didn’t have a designated waiter, I think the owner waited on us? For appetizers we had the corn muffins and pickles, they were good. We wanted the lobster soup but they ran out so we had the(micro) crab salad. Both bites were delicious. I wanted to the Ford’s cocktail but got a FORK and attitude instead. Literally a fork and the waiter insisted that I asked for a fork. We ordered one gumbo but got two. And we ordered the tuna but got gnocchi instead. The gnocchi was about 4 bites of food but it was delicious. Needless to say we won’t be back.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while. It’s a small hip place with cool décor about all the artists that died at age 27. Maybe a bit macabre but it’s cool. The food was fantastic. The girl I was with is vegan and the made special food for her that was not on the menu and was awesome. Super friendly staff and a nest small bar that would be fun to hang out at. Highly recommended!

Amazingly creative food from a talented chef. The outside might not look like much but the black garlic ice cream will be one of the most memorable deserts you’ve had. This is a great addition to deep ellum– please support! You will not be disappointed!

Maybe we had really high expectations based on the previous reviews, but we were so disappointed with our dinner at Twenty Seven. We decided to do the 7 course tasting menu at $ 90. The menu at the time was a Creole themed menu and sounded great. The 7 course seating is at 8:30PM so we arrived on time, only to be told that our table was not ready yet. We were not seated until nearly 9PM and were actually seated at a 6 seat table with another couple on the other end. We were never moved to a 2 seat table even after they opened up. We didn’t get our first bite of food until nearly 9:30(at which point we were starving). So obviously, this was not a great start to our evening. If the food had been outstanding, we may have been able to overlook the early mishaps. Unfortunately, we felt that several of the dishes(especially the ceviche and gumbo) were so overly salted they were nearly inedible. The Berkshire tenderloin was cold when it was served, the etoufee was actually a pasta dish with seared scallops(never seen an etoufee like this), and the bread pudding, while okay, was nothing special. We didn’t leave the restaurant until midnight — over 3 hours for 7 courses was a bit much for us. Overall, for $ 90 pp, we had MUCH higher expectations. The music was incredibly loud and the ambiance doesn’t scream upscale. I really wouldn’t even mind these things if they weren’t trying to charge so much per person. We could have eaten cheaper at the French Room or Local and gotten MUCH better quality food and service.

I first heard of this place from Will(the pianist who plays Happy Hours at Trulucks on McKinney during the week) because he is friends with the owner and plays Saturday evenings from 11:30pm — 2am. We went purely for the live music and comedy and had a BLAST! The restaurant itself is small but quaint. The ambiance and setup is upscale so I definitely plan on going back for dinner soon! The service was a little interesting… there were 2 bartenders serving the entire place fro behind the bar(again small but crowded) and one girl, who I think should have been a cocktail waitress but didnt do much except stand next to the bar. Other than the delay for drinks, it was such a good time. Will definitely be back!

We went here for the vegetarian tasting menu and it lived up to the hype. Each item was impressive and flavor packed in its own way. I even loved the entrée which had mushrooms(which I usually do not like at all). And last but not least the drinks were out of this world!

Dinner at the Mansion might be compared to a classical symphony, but dinner at Tw3enty-S3v3n is one of those life-altering rock concerts… and Chef DAT is certainly a culinary rock star! We celebrated our anniversary at Twenty-Seven last night, and it was one of the most exciting culinary experiences of my life. Every bite was full of interesting and unique flavor combinations. I couldn’t have been happier when Chef DAT prepared our amuse bouche table-side: a dollop of crema which he dropped into liquid nitrogen and then served in a delicious mini ice cream cone(other flavors were mixed in there — forgive me for forgetting what else was used… but let’s just say it was interesting, delicious, and fun!). You can tell that the chef loves what he does and has fun doing it; that sense of passion and playfulness is evident in each bite of his food. I won’t detail each course, but my favorite was the mishima wagyu that was perfectly prepared sous vide and served over a bed of pureed parsnips. Incredible! Also interesting was the palate cleanser: black garlic gelato… who would have thought that could be so delicious? The sommelier was extraordinarily helpful and friendly and helped us choose a bottle of wine that was pure magic. Besides the delicious food, what I appreciate most about this restaurant is its total lack of pretentiousness. The chef and his staff want you to enjoy fine food in a comfortable — yet cool — atmosphere. They have certainly achieved that. The music is amazing, the lighting is perfect, the location is hip… and you MUST check out the bathrooms!(Go in both of them.) Twenty-Seven definitely gets my vote for the best restaurant in Dallas. It’s not for everyone — some people prefer the Vienna Philharmonic over the Doors. But give me some Jimi, Janis, or Jim… I’ll choose Twenty-Seven any time I can!

Way to go Tw3nty S3v3n… Way to ruin the taste of everything else I eat now. It’s the next day, and I still can taste the flavors of last night in my mind. First course was spicy tomato soup with grilled cheese. At first I was concerned it might be over seasoned. Just pulling the spoon towards my mouth and breathing in the aroma made me feel like I tripped and fell into a swimming pool of marinara, but I think it was just a healthy dose of oregano, and it all ended up balancing well to the taste. Entrée was Mishima Wagyu steak, and it was so delicious I’m considering moving to Japan now. Beautifully seared on the outside but turned pink instantaneously just inside of that outer layer. Cutting it was difficult because it was so tender it just squished under pressure of the knife. I swear this cow must not have even as much as sneezed its whole life. It was served on a bed of parsnip purée with chimichurri, both of which were great but just paled in comparison to that steak. Then for dessert there was the most perfect consistency bread pudding I’ve ever had with a streak of amaretto sauce on the side and delicious melted butter ladled on the pudding. It was amazingly satisfying. The palate cleansers between courses were, if nothing else, fun, the most interesting being a liquid nitrogen show to start the night off. Other than the food, the experience was good. There are only a few tables, and so the chef comes out to talk to you a few times. At one point he came out to tell us how he couldn’t quite get the soup the way he wanted and to check whether a different option of soup was OK for everyone. The décor was very… uh… Deep Ellum. Dark and renovated-warehousey. The music was a little loud. Really it was all about the food, though. 33 is the food quality of a classy restaurant served in a more relaxed environment. I loved it.

Was gonna go in then saw rape joke written on the entryway. NOPE. This kind of place is not welcome in my neighborhood. Also it looks like an old Miami vice set or something. You’d be better off going to Local(which is delicious and served without a side of misogyny).

A group of 4 of us reserved the 8:306 course meal on a Saturday Atmosphere: 4⁄5. Restaurant was small, for our dinner we had 12 guests, I would imagine it to be quite crammed if it actually filled up with 27 people. Ambience was romantic but pretty laid back, I’m used to dressier attires usually when dining at a pricy restaurant, but even the owner himself at Twenty Seven was wearing a plaid shirt with khaki’s haha, not what I would expect from a pricey restaurant, but definitely deep ellum feel. One of the things I’ve read about this restaurant that caught my interest was the personalized menus with guests names printed. Needless to say, I felt a rush of disappointment as we were seated and noticed our menus weren’t personalized!!!(a bit dramatic I know but I was really excited to take them home as souvenirs! Lol) I asked mr. DAT(chef/host) right away and he then informed us that his printer wasn’t working properly the night before. So. Moving on. Food: 4⁄5. I got the Tasting of the Sea(attached collage photo), food overall was delicious! Chef also prepared a pallet cleanser(garlic gelato w/mint leaf) that wasn’t on the menu. I enjoyed the Hawaiian appetizer(pickle shrimp + pineapple/peppers), very fresh and light. The soup was creamy and tasty, the lobster appetizer was a bit over cooked. I prefer my lobster to be on the softer side. Arctic char of my entrée was cooked perfectly which made up for the chewy lobster. For dessert our table had to make a complaint to Chef DAT, I was looking forward to ending the meal with something yummy and sweet, instead we were served a Goat Cheese Cake, served with grapefruit and mint, imagine that, I couldn’t have two bites of it and neither could anyone else at my table, it was a sour dessert, spongy cheese cake with a strong taste of goat cheese. The good news is chef DAT informed us the dessert will be taken off the menu for we weren’t the first ones who’s complained. Drinks: 2⁄5. I’m not sure why but their cocktail menu had gin in all their drinks. And by all I mean 8⁄9 of them. I’m no big fan of gin so I requested a sweeter side cocktail to go with my sea menu, with vodka and not gin. The first drink was good, but reminded me of a mojito, not really what I would describe as sweet, so I asked for a different vodka cocktail for my second drink but this time I want it sweeter than the first, I’m not sure what these drinks are or if it’s the same bartender making them but the second one tasted almost the same as the first! Not to mention there weren’t any sweetness to it either lol. I wouldn’t consider myself to be picky but the drinks just didn’t do it for me, maybe if I were a wine drinker I would’ve had a better experience 11:30 they opened up a red curtain to reveal a small section of the restaurant where offered live music. Was entertaining and a fun filled piano/vocalist, half the people from dinner had left by then and more customers who just came for socialization and drinks began to pour in. It was laid back for my boyfriend and I to just chat and finish up our drinks. Truthfully I would’ve rated this restaurant 3⁄5 if it weren’t for the passionate customer service chef DAT had provided for our experience, which usually holds great effect for a full dining experience, Chef DAT notified us that the restaurant isn’t only open to set time menu bookings but also to customers who wants to dine as walk-in’s. He’s extremely friendly and courteous, came by our table twice to check up and educate us on the food. He took the time to shake our hands to say goodbye when we stood up to leave. Overall we all had a pleasant dining experience, but not sure if it’s somewhere I would recommend.

Everything was amazing. I am the pickiest eater but I found the utmost delight in each of the six courses they presented. My boyfriend got the signature selection and I had the taste of the sea. We shared and frequently couldn’t decide who’s was better. Dinner last almost 3 hours but you could not tell as each course came out perfectly timed after completing the previous course. The sommelier was right on point with both of his red and white wine recommendations and the bartender was up for the challenge of creating non-gin based concoctions upon request. While not a candidate for your weekly dining spot, it will surely be in my bag of tricks when company comes to town. Excellent job Chef DAT and crew.

Goodness, I hate to be the critic, but I was incredibly disappointed by this meal and let me explain why. Though other reviews are great, hear me out on this one. Let’s start with the good! I’ll describe atmosphere, reservation, décor, food, service and do an overall synopsis. It’s eclectic and underground-like in deep ellum, so it feels exclusive and kind of hipster, yet fancy. Like everyone has said, it’s a prix fixe meal that changes daily. Reservation: we had the 8:30 reservation which is a six course dinner. The 6:15 reservation is a three course meal and is a bit cheaper. Let’s just go balls out today! Anyway, the menu changes daily(the three days they do dinner service) and it’s pretty neat that they print the menus out and put your name on them. Atmosphere/décor: The interior is… deep ellum. Old, factory and industrial kind of setting with brick walls and cement floors. The windows were barely in the sills but it’s fine. It’s intimate and it really only accommodates the 27 people it’s intended to fit. Lighting is pretty dim but you can still see fairly well. Bathroom is a «must see» according to chef DAT. The artist inside me thought it was interesting, but not worth me making a trip if I didn’t need to. The walls are semi decorated with frames and random items. Again, an eclectic little spot. It’s still good. We get there at 8:25 and dinner actually started around 9. Why does my email say dinner service will start at 8:30? We are practically famished at this point. So the first dish comes out and it’s tiny for everyone. We wait and wait and wait more and find that this is the trend at this restaurant. I knew it would be an ordeal, but to have dinner for three hours was a little much, especially at that hour. Expect 9−12a if you’re doing the 8:30 service. We got our check a little earlier than others too and apparently live music was supposed to come out and play. I was getting sleepy and tired of this place by that time. Food: I’ll give it to chef DAT for his creativity, but the food didn’t astonish me. It was rather disappointing. When I pay $ 90/person, I expect multiple parties in my mouth, but anything at par or sub par is rather sad. Dishes were good per se but they didn’t quite come together. I felt as if I was preparing my own food and my lazy day style is, let’s stick whatever I have in the fridge in my bowl! Indian? Yes. Chinese, ok! Throw some veggies, maybe a little Mexican spice or whatever and voila, edible for only me. Things separately tasted fine, but together, seemed very off kilter. I also had the sea tasting, so got dishes with shrimp, crab, lobster, salmon, etc. it was all fine(not amazing) because I was starving, but if I was starving, shouldn’t I have even lower expectations? My first dish just seemed like I put some cold and old rice and tried to reconstitute it. Perhaps that’s the style, but the last time I was in Hawaii, it wasn’t. Other dishes had contrast such as super fresh style salad and then slow cooked, winter-ish protein. I don’t know if that makes sense, you may have to try it yourself. Chef DAT himself is personable and nice and goes around to talk to everyone, but I feel like he needs to present better. He’s great at being himself but maybe he should tone up the be a little professional as well. Overall, the experience was long and arduous. I’ve had dinners that have lasted this long but things moved along and it was more expected? Though delightful at times(my favorites were the amouse bouche and intermezzo. sadly?), I just didn’t feel like this was worth my time, money and effort. I really appreciate chef DAT’s creativityand the experience itself, but maybe just not my cup of tea. Try it and let me know how it goes.

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and it was absolutely perfect. We went to the 8:30 sitting. We didn’t start the meal til around 9. We also got the wine pairing which was a fantastic choice. Each wine enhanced our course and it was a really great deal for the amount of great wine we got to try(only $ 50 a person!). The summer tasting menu was delicious. We both finished each plate easily. The chef came out and introduced each course with a little back story and explanation of the ingredients. I learned a lot and laughed a lot too! He’s a funny guy. Should do some stand up. I have no complaints about any of the food. It was definitely the best meal I’ve ever had in dallas. I highly recommend this place! We stayed for the live music after dinner and the musician was so talented. I would go back any day just to hear him again.

My hubs and I tried 27 last night for the first time and it did not disappoint… The food was off the hook, the staff was very attentive and the ambiance stellar… The music was incredible, even before the live music started and that was such a treat!!! We didn’t want to leave!!! Chef Dat is one talented man… There is nothing like anything he creates anywhere in Dallas … Such a lovely evening from start to finish… Can’t wait to go back…

Fantastic place. I loved the atmosphere. Service was great, friendly and down to earth. The chef was part of the team, out visiting tables at each course. We had the signature menu. Food served at the right pace. Cocktail menu is limited, but not the bar, and they will make anything you want. I liked how two of the courses were plays on words. Hot potato cold potato was sunchoke and parsnip. Shrimp and grits was lobster and polenta. Overall highly recommend.

Pat Baby loves fine dining, but he is as cheap as Fritos, so I decided to take him out to spend some of my dollar bills on a pay day night. When making a reservation online, you have to specify which Prix Fixe menu you want for each guest: Signature, Garden, Land or Sea. The signature is a set menu, so you know exactly what you’re getting. The others though are a complete mystery until you arrive and look at the completely personalized menus at your table. Yeah, I mean my name was even on that thing *super star status*…in my narcissistic mind. I could describe every single thing that was brought to me, but there wouldn’t be a point because you are probably not going to get the same dishes as I did. For starters, Pat Baby and I got something that was cooked with liquid nitrogen. Wut… Who does that?! It was a crazy experience in my mouth, almost like an ice cube but without all of the sharp pain. Maybe, aliens. For the Sea menu, I had dishes like oyster and«pearls», a salad with hidden pieces of crab, some kind of lobster soup. Six courses and there was nothing I refused to eat. Everything was so innovative and I experienced aromas and flavor combinations I’ve never seen on any Dallas menu. Pat Baby had the Land tasting and one of his dishes was delicately called«Tequila Makes her Clothes Come Off», cabreza brazed lamb over elotes. It was outstanding. Appealing plating and full robust flavors, the lamb was so tender and juicy that I swear I could have held a live one while chewing this dish and not even feel a single pang in my heart. Fine dining and Deep Ellum doesn’t seem to register correctly for me, but Twenty Seven was able to capture the neighborhood vibe while keeping it classy and dish out culinary surprises to common folk like myself. It’s not just outside of the box. Chef DAT is on another level that you can’t reach. What really made the night for me was not just the food or wonderful service from both host and wine director. It was… their restroom. Yes, judge all you want! PR’s are really iffy to me and I feel their upkeep reflects the true inner nature of a place. You know what the inner nature of Twenty Seven is? Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll baby. Go see for yourself.

Awesome dinner spot if you want an intimate dinner with your S.O. or with a small group of friends. Located in the up and coming revamp of Deep Ellum! I loved Chef David Anthony Temple’s underground dinner when it took place at the very same location, but with Tw3nty S3v3n personal touch! If you haven’t attended to any of his underground dinner’s before then you must know that his menus are all Prix Fixe at a set price for either a 6:00PM(half tasting menu) or 8:30PM(full tasting menu) time slots. He has a rather unique and impeccable style of cooking. It’s a mixup of cali and NOLA ingredients cooked in a refined way. He always uses the local Dallas vendors and imports fresh ingredients from around the states. As for the dining experience here goes… We had a 8:30PM dinner and reserved ahead of time for the«Winter Signature Menu» and the«Tasting of the Sea». Upon arrival, we were greeted by the sweetest manager, Sarah that also took the time to personalize our table by printing out the menus that we will be having for the night along with our names on it. Plan on having an experience dining here rather than just coming in and dining, because you will spend at least 3 hours here for dinner. They even offer live music to come in around 11:00PM for after hour drinks! I also adore the fact that there is a wine connoisseur, Jason that will pair specialty wines with your meal. Jason will spend the time and talk to you about what kind of wine you like and will make sure you get the wine that you like. It’s amazing how patient he is to listen to your feedback for each tasting that he samples for you, I am not going to go in detail in each item that I had as the menu will change. But I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed! You will have to go for yourself to know how amazing the food is. What I really like is that you get a pre-intermezzo(which I don’t remember what it was called) and Chef Dat’s famous Black Garlic Gelato intermezzo in between your meals. They also finish your dining experience off by giving you your bill in a cute cigar box with pieces of «Dude, Sweet» chocolates for you. Well… hello? What are you waiting for? Make your reservation now!!!

This is absolutely a must do restaurant. We loved everything we received — a big standout was the sous vide beef — it’s amazing the flavor and texture Chef Dat was able to obtain. There’s not a lot of point in me gushing about the menu, since it changes regularly — which is one thing that’s fantastic about this kind of restaurant. I’m on his mailing list, so I get notified of changes to the menu. I believe that the signature menu changes quarterly, while the land and sea menus change weekly. The atmosphere was great — it’s a small building and very cozy. I loved that the Chef roamed the dining room to check on us. Having only 27 seats in the restaurant makes that much easier. We were there very soon after it opened and they didn’t have a cocktail menu. I wasn’t in the mood for making decisions, so I asked the bartender to surprise me and me fiancé followed suit. The waiter asked us about our preferences and the bartender did a fantastic job of creating drinks that we each loved. She also came out to check on us and make sure we were happy with what we ordered. The prices on this means that it won’t be something we go to frequently, though I know we’ll definitely go back.

Wonderful dinner! You choose between Signature menu, Vegetarian menu, and seafood menu. Our table had two signature and one vegetarian menu. We loved it. Hard to find coursed menus in Dallas and this was solid. The black garlic ice cream intermezzo was amazing!
