Towne Square Apartments has low rent and its location is excellent for people that work at Parkland Memorial Hospital or go to Southwestern Medical School. Its practically walking distance, and when you drive, it takes like five minutes to get there. In fact, a large proportion of the people that live here are post-docs from China. Management is very responsive. They are really nice people that recognize their residents and say hi to them in the halls. If you get packages from FedEx or UPS, they go to the front office. The main building looks like it used to be a hotel. The rooms open up to an indoor hallway, which is nice when its cold or hot outside. There are other units that are part of the main building that open up to an outdoor walkway and there are other units that are completely separate from the main building that have little yards. There is a gated parking lot that you get into with a card and lots of extra parking outside of the gates. There’s a lot a pool that usually has a lot of Chinese toddlers splashing around in during the summer. Oh, and there’s a musty dinky little exercise room. If you open the back door to the parking lot, you are directly on Maple and you can walk next door to the Rio Grande Supermercado. (Forgive me if this link doesn’t work correctly. I haven’t quite figured out how to link to other reviews yet) There is also a DART bus stop on Maple so essentially, you could manage to live here without having a car if you work or study at Parkland or Southwestern. If you have to drive to downtown Dallas, its only like 15 minutes away by car. My parents have been living here for the past 4 years and they pay $ 680 a month for a one bedroom, one bathroom unit, plus utilities. Right now, if you sign a new lease with them right now, you get the first month free, which is awesome. They get free dish satellite. Obviously, the apartment across Maple, 5225, is much newer and much nicer. But the rent here is a lot cheaper last time we checked, and although everything is older, its been pretty homey. Now, with all this being said and done, the only reason why I can’t give this place a better rating is that there are roaches. If you can suck it up and deal with seeing visitors in the bathroom and kitchen in the middle of the night, considering the price, this is a pretty good deal. And keep in mind that different units have differing experiences with roaches. And management will fumigate your apartment as many times as you ask them to for free.
