So yes this is a very authentic Mexican grocery store. My favorite is the conchitas. By far the best I have every tasted. Light, airy and fresh! The produce selection is great as well. I haven’t tried any of the product from the meat department. Will update if I do. I love coming here with my husband! My mom came to visit from Amarillo Texas and she liked it too. There’s no other place I’ll go for conchitas!

This is my dad’s favorite mexi store, he loves the fresh meat department they will do what the client desires from cutting off all the fat on the meat and making it lean. You can catch great deals and specials every Wednesday.

The prices are so cheap and the selection is really pretty good. Great fruits and vegetables section, but haven’t ventured into meats. Also amazing looking pastries. The staff, however, is largely comprised of grumpy cats and it seems like the majority of customers come with their troop of screaming kids. So, it can be a little stressful

Ok I’ll post my review again. I had deleted the review because I appreciated the way the manager handled the situation but. since this box keeps popping up I’ll post it again. I love this restaurants mexican food and I’ve often stopped for years now to buy dinners. However, I stopped and bought a plate and when I made it home and was eating the food I bit down on something large and hard. I spit it out and it was a large pigs tooth. How on earth did a pig’s tooth get in my meal? I was disgusted. I took the food(with the tooth) back to the restaurant and the manager apologized and returned my money. I have not eaten there since.

Definitely dont judge a book by its cover when you come here!!! I decided to make a detour to the grocery store and stumbled upon this hidden grocery gem. It does look very questionable from the outside BUT its a good find. Right outside the grocery store is a small Elotes taco stand which I havent gotten a chance to try yet but definitely need to! The grocery store itself is pretty clean and yes I do purchase my poultry and beef from here. The chicken is very reasonable and a great deal. Some of the vegetables are very cheap as well and they offer an assortment and variety of herbs and anything else you could imagine. Yes I am Vietnamese and have been to the Vietnamese grocery store in Garland which are very questionable. I might be immuned to a certain type of expectation. I brought my friend here and she absolutely obsessed with everything here. There is also a taco shop that is attached to the grocery store and I still havent gotten a chance to try it yet but hope to one day. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here for groceries if you feel like Tom Thumb and Kroger’s can be a bit boring. I love this place because its so convenient and very reasonable!

Not a ton of variety but the butcher shop in the back is fantastic! The marinated chicken and steaks are wonderful and ready to grill. Try the fish ceviche and the shrimp cocktail. It’s always fresh and tasty. Kroger is basically across the street but I like to get my produce from this place. Just seems farm fresh. The Mexican café on the north side of the store has great portion size for the price. Food(during peak hours) is always fresh tasting, hot and ready to go. They make fresh guacamole that is to die for.

I went here for the first time after browsing through grocery store ads. I’m glad I did because their produce, meat, and eggs are so much cheaper than the Kroger down the street. I can even find more exotic fruits and vegetables. I do agree with one reviewer in that the produce doesn’t seem to last as long. They also have a huge selection of Mexican sweets and breads in the bakery section. However, I wouldn’t go here for other stuff(quinoa, goat cheese, spices, etc…) because they don’t have it, it’s not as cheap, or there is a small selection.

Ok, so everyone here speaks Spanish and they cater to Hispanics, so expect to speak a few words in Spanish. I came here to get some marinated fajita meats and fixins. Great selection, price, and the food tasted great! The produce section was stocked well with better prices than Kroger down the street.

They’ve upped their game recently, and they brought back«cake» slices to their bakery(a guilty pleasure), so that and their meat market(which carries an extensive marinated-meat selection) are what keeps me going there. They don’t carry Dr Pepper 2 litters, lactose-free dairy, chicken broth or quinoa, and their Blue Bell ice cream besides being way overpriced is kept way too cold in the freezer, so it crystalizes(which defeats the point of it being the creamiest), also Oreos are about $ 6 instead of $ 3 at Krogers, maybe not the most important items in a shop-list, but if you were looking forward to these treats, you’ve been warned. The only bad thing I’ve constantly encountered is the«cash hut» right by the register, where tellers are usually condescending, tending to phone calls or just overall rude, and«Walmart syndrome» which means they’ve 60 employees stocking, bagging, cleaning, etc. and only 1 open register. I don’t know if they do those things on purpose, but the extra 10 – 15 minutes in line are worth it when I need to get cheap veggies and pan dulce.

Great little Mexican grocery. I found a wide variety of very fresh produce here, which was what I was mainly shopping for. The meat counter and its options look delicious and I will be returning to try some of their marinated fajita meats. Great prices, friendly workers.

Having Mexican for dinner? This is your place! Having anything else for dinner? There’s a Kroger up the road. What I like about the Mercado is that it reminds me of Mexico… not like, REAL Mexico, but ya know… the border towns where Americanized Mexicans hang out! They have a wide selection of Mexican food products, and the meat is typically fresh. They have a Taqueria attached that serves from FREAKINGAMAZING Horchata(and other various beverages)! The staff speaks English for the most part, and they’re always friendly, which is a plus. The only downside is that I know I can’t go here for most things I need. I’m REALLY happy about the Kroger on Maple and Med. District now, because I can go there to do most of my shopping. Anyway, I’d say give the El Rio Grande a try, and if you don’t like it, go to Kroger. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a good little experience. They have corn and nachos during the evening time sometimes!

I used to shop here when I lived across the street at 5225 Maple. Since I didn’t have a car, I was really lucky to have this store a stones-throw away. This is probably the most authentic Mexican store I’ve shopped at regularly. You have to make some adjustments to your meal planning if you’re going to do your primary shopping here. For example, I love bagels but could never find a decent bagel here. Most bread products were a similar story. I never felt like I had a bad customer service experience here. There’s a very small language barrier if you don’t know Spanish, but I found that most of the employees, especially the cashiers, are pretty bi-lingual.

Cheap produce. That’s why I come here. For example: 12 oranges for a dollar. 5 avocados for a dollar. 3 grapefruits/$ 1. cheap onions! brocolli, red bell peppers, pineapples. Stuff is cheap. Did I say it was cheap yet? That’s why I come here. And they even had a few cases of my favorite mexican beer, Noche Buena. Oh yeah, and the elotes outside are buenaso !

Cheap produce and meats. Everything else is normally priced. Not going to find your organic labels or whole wheat/bajillion grain breads. But happy shopping for eggs and other things on the dollar menu(3 grapefruits or 5 lemons). Slake your thirst elsewhere, as beer is a little more expensive than places like Krogers. As for the catering… now that’s a thumbs up.

I can see why non-Hispanics would feel a little misplaced here. Don’t let that stop you! It’s an authentic Mexican market! Although there may be language barrier(I don’t speak Spanish), they are still always very friendly. The food in the taqueria is usually freshly prepared after being ordered. It is generally a greasy delicious. I’ve always wondered what Mexicans really eat. Maybe this is it. As for the grocery store, this definitely doesn’t serve as full fledged grocery store for me. I do like to pick up a few items here because they are much cheaper than at Kroger or Neighborhood Walmart. Avocados are usually 2 for $ 1 here, but I’ve seen them as cheap as 5 for $ 1. Outrageous! Eggs are cheap here too.

I’m with Wes M. in totally looking out of place grocery shopping here but I saw some of my fellow yellow people here and there when I got inside. El Rio Grande does have super fab sales on certain items(mostly meat and produce) but their«American» goods like Healthy Choice entrees or Oscar Mayer lunch-ables are on the high end. The BF and I were craving tacos but with our appetite it would cost quite a bit at Fuel City so we wanted to make our own. I got marinated pastor meat, freshly made salsa Verde(OMG this was so good but lacked in the spice dept), fresh ingredients to make guacamole, tortilla chips, 2 lbs of chicken breasts and fresh fruit and salad for the week for $ 14! My grocery bill for the week is normally 4x this! The supermarket is bigger then what it looks like on the outside and not too packed. I did have problems ordering my meat because everyone responded to me in Spanish but it all worked out in the end. My pastor tacos ended up being delicious and we even had leftovers so both my tummy and budget were happy.

I like this little place. Looks like a «OMG I’m white and totally don’t belong here» type place on the outside. That idea could be farther from the truth. Grow a pair and walk in and just take a look at the good prices on the produce and meat selection. I just bought $ 10 in groceries there the other day and received fresh, boneless, skinless ckn. breast for .99 cents a pound. Heckuva good deal IMO. That’s all I really buy there– peppers, meat, produce, some canned goods. All the prices are pretty low. Try the taqueria in the store too as well– the pork tamales are great! Word to the wise: If you have a pretty, Latina with ya, you get your meat faster :-) They guys back in the butcher area love helping a black haired baby, not some pale juedo! HA!

I wish I could give two different ratings to this place as really the three stars that I’m giving it are not making any justice to the carnitas that they make here. However, the other two things that I tried weren’t as good as the carnitas, so, the three stars that you see here are the average of the three things that I had. As I just mentioned, the carnitas here are amazing. They make them every morning the old Mexican way(in huge pots with water, lard, coke, orange, etc) and use almost all parts of the pork(ears, snout, fatskin, etc) which is the reason they have such great taste. I had two carnitas tacos(one of just meat, and the other one with snout and fatskin). Both were fantastic. The tortillas also are pretty good. They use the small corn tortillas that are so common in taquerias in Mexico and that make the taco so much better than the large ones. I also ordered a pastor and a bistek taco. The bistek was definitely not good. It was too charred and tasteless. The seasoning of the pastor was good, although the overall taco wasn’t as enjoyable because it was too greasy. The salsa verde was just okay. I personally would have liked it a little bit spicy-er and with more onion and garlic. Overall, I think this place has lots of potential. They’ve got an amazing variety of food in there that I will definitely go back and try. Even if I don’t like the rest of their stuff, I will definitely go back and get me some carnitas every once in a while.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Dallas. I usually only come to this place for the taqueria on the side, but my mom always buys fresh fruit and veggies here. Their prices are pretty good, and sometimes they have ridiculous sales. Last week, my mom bought 25 oranges for a dollar. I thought there would be something wrong with them, but they were really good. So I’ve been reading a lot of positive reviews for tacos at Fuel City, and I remember thinking that those were good tacos when I visited, but I think these tacos are comparable and a lot closer to where I live. I’m not Hispanic, so I guess I my opinion about the authenticity of the food here doesn’t really hold much weight, so I won’t comment on authenticity. But as far as yumminess goes, these are good tacos. And cheap ones, too. The ones I get are usually $ 1.19. I’m usually stuffed by three of them. Its a really cheap lunch. They have some seating available in the taqueria, or you can take it to go. Tonight, I went for dinner and they were about to close. It was 5ish. They had stopped selling the tacos, but they still had the real legit Mexican food, like intestines, stomach, half chickens, huge slabs of meat, ect ect. I’ve realized that Mexican cuisine, well meat in particular, is really similar to Chinese cuisine because we eat all the gross-looking parts of animals too. I bought some postale, which is this soupy red sauce with pork(some pieces still had bone attached to it) and corn. It cost $ 5.99 plus tax, making it $ 6.48. Although this is a lot more than the amount I usually spend on my 3 tacos, its enough food to last me at least three meals. I had left over rice in the fridge and had me a fantastic dinner. Oh, and another thing is the helpfulness and friendliness of the people that work there. Whenever I walk into the taqueria, I get a lot of amused smiles, partly because the Asians in the area typically stick to the grocery part the store and don’t venture out to this section. They are always really patient with me as I point to everything in the display case and ask them what it is. Final thought: if you get a chance to buy corn from the little stand(it says«elotes») that is sometimes outside of the store, I would highly recommend the corn. Its like $ 2.50 for the most deliciously fattening cup of corn combined with cheese and sour cream(at least that’s what I think it is). Oh so good!
