Awesome house converted to a coffee shop! I went to Baylor and this place reminds me of Common Grounds in Waco. They have books and records all around and a backyard area. Great place to meet with friends or just to chill by yourself. I had a mocha and it was very rich and bittersweet. Delicious. Check it out!

Think of Austins Rainey street area before it was ruined. Extensive Spanish wine collection. Full bar. Nice patio. Coffee. What else could you want? Only four stars due to price. Very bishop arts in cost.

Really good coffee, but a bit on the more pricy side. I got a latte and it was really good with a pretty design on it. The inside is amazingly beautiful with books and a great place to lounge around. The backyard of this coffee shop is so pretty with lights and tables. Would recommend going here to get some work done!

Coffee. A simple cup. Was a medium blend. High acidity, with a tangy after taste. Somewhat briny. The cappuccino was burnt, and overdosed with milk. Atmosphere was warm and trendy. I would be fearful of bringing my PC notebook here, as it would attract the hipster death stare. Would visit again if the coffee improved.

Good concept, weak delivery. I’m not going to buy a new record there for a dollar more than a record shop, just to look cool. I’m not going to buy a book there, for a dollar more than a book store, just to look cool. I’m not going to pretend to like my weak coffee, just because the bespectacled barista thinks he knows what he’s doing. By the way, my eighteen year old, punk rock son, makes a better foam. This place is too pricey with a personality-less staff. Tell the homely, dumpy barista with glasses, to learn how to brew a decent cup of coffee. Before he acts like any question is beneath him. It’s sad when the customers are nicer than the staff.

This is definitely a cute coffee/wine/beer place to hang out with if you’re ever in the Bishop Arts. They have a cool patio with patio benches, and they have a small interior that is like a normal coffee shop. If you want something chill and casual, stop by here and hang out.

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Dallas for so long and never came here. The inside is chic and filled with books of all types and little reading nooks. It would be a great place to study or a great place for a first/second date. The outside patio is also very large and inviting and they have tons of seating. The tostas were awesome and I highly recommend the honey cream cheese and avocado one(if you like spicy). Wine, beer and coffee selection was also decent. Definitely a great option for a picky drinker.

It’s beautiful, yummy latte, and the vibe… Oh so magical. I was busting a friend in Dallas and she brought me to this gem, definitely hipster to the max, but who even cares. This coffee shop, bar, bookstore is done perfectly. Well done. And the name!!! Super mysterious and unique. Welcoming, kind, and helpful staff I’m in Chicago and I wanna go back!

Very quaint atmosphere that offers decent Spanish/Portuguese wine and well-priced($ 4+) snack plates for pairing. I had the cheeseboard I went on Monday night and there seemed to be a group of people reading poetry. Books are everywhere to read and there is a community table where you can just sit next to strangers and mind your own business.

Very very cool spot to hang out and catch up with some friends! We came here after brunch wanting to see what else the Bishop Arts District had to offer. Coffee, in a trendy spot, was the perfect thing after a fulfilling brunch. This place almost looked like a house from outside. You can easily mistake it if you weren’t looking for it. Inside there are various tables, books, and a bar you can sit at. Coffee bar, of course! It was really hot inside to me, so we opted to sit at the benches in the back. I was in the mood for an iced vanilla latte, but I was told they don’t have any flavored syrups. Disappointing. But an iced latte will do. It was pretty good, and helped me digest my food! I loved sitting outside in the back. The inside just had too much of a stuffy feeling for me. We left after about 15 minutes or so. I definitely want to go back and check out all the things they offer besides coffee though. Maybe bring my laptop and do a little work next time!

I really liked the vibe here. An eclectic display of books and records. It was an awesome place to hang out while waiting for our late dinner reservation at another place. The backyard space will be especially awesome when the weather is nice. I really like the fact that they cater to different wants. In our party, some people ordered esspresso drinks, others beer, and some others got pie(careful — the pie runs out!). Where else can you do that? My latte was really good. Not quite as good as Oddfellows, but close and we wouldn’t have been able to just meander at Oddfellows.

Wow, I just got here and all I want to do is tell my friends about it. So, Unilocal friends, let me tell you why you need to be here right meow. The Wild Detectives is on a cozy residential street in the Bishop Arts District. It is a remodeled home, with a sunny, open layout. The seating is spaced nicely, so there isn’t any spot where you’ll feel crowded. There is even a cozy bench right by the front window. I especially appreciate the calm hum of this place. The music is quiet enough that it won’t drown out conversation. I haven’t had the cocktails and food here(yet!), but the menu looked very enticing. The coffee is very good! I could actually enjoy the coffee black! You can find the standard coffee and espresso selection. There is a good variety of books and music here. They are also very well organized.

Do you like coffee? Do you like beer? Do you like(or pretend to like) books? Vinyl? Cassettes?(because apparently cassettes are a thing again for some reason) Is Starbucks too mainstream for you? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then Wild Detectives is the place for you. Enter the beautiful little house in the Bishop Arts district and enjoy the artfully prepared coffee(don’t ask for an iced latte though or you will get eyes of judgement, apparently that doesn’t exist in real life) Anyway, it’s a cool place to sit down and have a chat with friends and spend an afternoon zipping on yo’ favorite drink and stuff. Cozy place, reasonable prices, good luck parking.

Sitting at WD, writing a Unilocal review for WD, have u been able to tell that I love this place yet? ;) It took me a few months to finally decide to come here because we were looking for a coffee house that still opens around 10:30pm on a Sunday night, n this was pretty much the only one I could find(that actually does coffee art). Some of my fellow Unilocalers’ reviews made me hesitate to come here for the last few months due to the complaints about bad customer service, but I’m glad I gave them a chance. We arrived around 10:30pm, n they were supposed to close at 11. There were about 8 – 9 other people besides us, so we decided to stay for as long as we r not the last ones to leave, or until they kick us out. Surprisingly, the only barista/bartender/server/manager was in no rush to close the place even when it was past 11pm. He was nice n pretty friendly. N just the fact that we did not feel even a bit rushed to get out of there, n were able to stay wayyyyy past the closing time, that’s a huge plus! I had an almond milk latte. There was no sugar or syrup added to it. The drink has just a hint of sweetness n the coffee was very flavorful. My guy ordered a Cortado, an avocado tosta and a prosciutto tosta. Both the tostas were good. He had to add a little bit of sugar to the Cortado, but it’s never meant to have any sugar or be sweet at all to start with. The place is not that big, but if u can find some good seats to enjoy the company, have some good talk, or pick out a book from their selection, it’s a perfect place that offers a little bit of everything to everyone.

The coffee is delish(my fave is the iced mocha) and the ambience is so chill; however, they DONTHAVEWIFI on the weekends. Really interesting/cool concept to «disconnect on the weekends» but not very practical. I go to coffee shops to be productive and get work done, can’t be doing that without Internet. I’ve been here before a couple of months ago and they used to have weekend wifi, what happened? #bringbackthewifi

As soon as I walked in, the nerd housed within me got giddy. The assortment of books by genre was spectacular. I loved the fact that I could have coffee /tea /booze. I ordered a chai latte, it wasn’t too hot or too special, but I lived. Finding parking was a bit annoying, but it’s Bishop Arts so it’s to be expected. What I did not expect, was Mos Def Pandora to be playing. It set me up to be a great mood as the music was great and I could get some work done. My only issue is, I should have checked reviews due to the«Weekends Without Wifi». I had intention of getting some work done and we eventually left, but I would just know now to come on another day. Overall, I loved it, I absolutely would come back, and will probably be a regular throughout the week.

Such a cute coffee shop located in the bishop arts district! If you’re a bookworm, you definitely need to spend an afternoon here! The store is surrounded with bookshelves and a hefty load of books filling it. They also have a nice little patio area in the back for when the weather is nice. I got a chai tea latte and it was decent. I’m not a huge coffee person, I mainly just like the atmosphere of coffee shops and I liked this one.

You’ve got coffee, you’ve got books, you’ve got alcohol… I’m sold! Wild detectives is tucked away in the street perpendicular to the street emporium pies is located on. Parking can be a little difficult since it is a neighbourhood, but drive around a few times or park a little further and you’ll be fine. The first time I came here to check it out, it was about 10pm and I ordered a solid White Russian. There was a dj playing a cool funk mix of songs, and people walking in and out of the patio area. I haven’t been out to the patio, but there’s a few benches out there. In the inside, there are a number of places to sit(most have electric outlets), some seating by the windowsill, and a table of books up for grabs to buy in the centre when you first walk in. Love the concept! Something I don’t agree with is the no wifi on the weekend. I understand the purpose behind it, but it’s difficult for those that are coming to study or work on things on their laptops. The second time I came, I was here for two hours in the afternoon. In those two hours, four different people got situated with their technology, asked me for the wifi password only to find that there wasn’t any access, packed up, drank their drinks and left. Maybe it would be better to shut it off during weekend nights? Don’t know. Regardless, I’ll make the half hour trek back here sometime. But not when I have something to work on

I have been here a handful of times over our many visits to the Bishop Arts District. Our last visit was a little amusing. We had just gone out to eat at the Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. just down the street. I had a doggie bag with me, because I couldn’t finish eating my meal. We walked into the store and I was immediately spotted and someone shouted, «No outside food or drinks!» I looked like a deer caught in the headlights and I explained that it was my leftovers from dinner. I was allowed to stay. I ordered the cortado and enjoyed every last sip. In fact, those sips made me go searching for the bathroom. When I found it, I was so grossed out, that I couldnt even force myself to go inside. I peeked into the men’s bathroom to see if it was any better — oh no. The toliet seat was not even attached. Ew. Moral of the story. Great drinks. Weird customer service. Gross bathrooms.
