Taj Express is closed. I’m guessing permanently, since their phone has been disconnected.

Delicious and authentic Indian! We love to get their take out. The buffet is pretty good too, but the quality is a little better with take out. Everything is so rich and flavorful!

The food is either too salty or too bland. I’m not expecting authentic, but at least decent! I rather go elsewhere for $ 10 nothing seemed fresh. all left overs.

Pretty good Indian food!(Haven’t tried the buffet so can’t speak for that)…sometimes the naan is a little doughy, but the chicken shahi korma(request a little more spice) is delish!

I have never ordered anything besides eating at the buffet, and even then I rarely start from the saag paneer and kheer. Both solidly good. I had the buffet last night for dinner and am kind of a gastro wuss and I never felt bad afterward — so to me, that means that the food was fresh and hadn’t been sitting for awhile! :) Great spot if you live nearby!

I search out Indian Buffet for lunch when I am on the road. This small place with interesting painting but no ambiance was a FANTASTIC surprise. Yeah it needs a power washing inside like most low end $ 10 lunch places in this country. But i did not care. There were 4 cabs in the parking lot. I knew it would be good. Tender, delicious, tasty with a good variety. You need to know what you like because there are no labels for the food. The Palaak Paneer was awesome and the rice tender and delicious. There was a mango pudding with rice pudding for dessert. Awesome I will definitely add this to my other favorite restaurant in Dallas Mi Cuccina

I’ve only been here for lunch, but this place is decent. It’s a very small buffet, but it’s close(to work) and cheap. There are about 8 items in the buffet line, not counting the dessert and salad selections. The naan was good and soft. The also had papad, which was tasty. The food didn’t have as much flavor and spice as I prefer, but I’m wondering how much of that has to do with the location(Dallas proper). I will definitely be back here.

I ordered a couple take-out dishes and they did a fine job. One thing I bought was a Lamb Kashmiri. At first I was nervous because the woman taking my order sounded uncertain as to whether they had lamb. Not only did they have it, but I felt like the portion I received was rather generous on the meat. The other item was a Paneer Shahi Korma, which is not on the menu but I asked them to make. It was also really good, though next time we plan to ask for vegetables in it as well. I was a little nervous before reading the reviews. And I’ll admit, I maybe can KIND of see what people were saying about the food having a little less flavor. I’m not sure what it was and maybe Unilocal was just putting ideas in my head about what to expect. But bottom line is the food was certainly good and I would eat from here again.

This is a dirty, trashy, crazy little restaurant — but who cares? The food is always good. By the way, does this remind anyone else of the Sex and the City episode about the crappy little Chinese restaurant that you bring dates to when you don’t want anyone to see you with them?

If you’ve ever had delicious Indian food in Richardson or Irving(or beyond), then you should steer clear of Taj Express. I live in East Dallas and didn’t feel like driving all the way to Richardson for Indian… big mistake. I should have heeded my instincts: Dallas-proper has no good Indian food. We’re stuck with the likes of Taj Express and Roti Grill(Roti is much better than Taj, btw). This place had the most boring and uninspired Indian buffet I’ve ever tried. Watery, bland Tikka Masala… pakoras that weren’t crispy… Saag Paneer without the paneer(just spinach, no cheese), etc. One dish was just black eyed peas with a little bit of spices. This is not Indian food. It’s a sad semblance of Indian food. Don’t make the same mistake as me. Take the extra 15 – 20 minutes to drive to Richardson.

Great for a quick and simple lunch/dinner buffet. Not a huge fan of buffets myself, but they typically have a couple of dishes I like, so there is enough variety that I don’t mind spending $ 10 for it. Their mushroom soup is a nice, simple, spicy takeout treat as well. Please note, this is a good place for quick and simple. If you’re looking for a little more upscale, there are other places to go to in uptown(or all over DFW for that matter), so go there and don’t hate on this little neighborhood spot.

A very solid joint for«not expensive» Indian buffet. They also do to-go, which is a very good deal given how much you could pack into the container they gave you.(they also give you tin foils to pack the naan away, so that make extra space for more food in the containers: D) Its not the greatest Indian food, but given it’s price and the lack of other Indian food around, I go there whenever I have a craving for some Indian food. All in all, a good deal for what its worth.

Disappointing. I was headed down Lemmon to the Whole foods for turkey ordering — it was luchtime, I like Indian food. But really shouldn’t have gone. The people are nice, the place is small(I generally like that), but the food was blander than I would have expected. Limited buffet menu too. So, it won’t be in the rotation again

Meh… says the girl who ADORES Indian cuisine. I recently got back from a month in India where I fell in love with pretty much all North Indian food. I know its often hard to get the same authenticity here in Dallas, so I was prepared to not even compare and be fair with my review. They missed the mark. I wont harp too much about service because everyone has their off days, but I was a bit turned off walking into an almost empty restaurant and not being acknowledged for minutes upon minutes until I had to flag the owner down to take my order. Still, I remained excited to try the lunch buffet. Unfortunately, it had very little variety(chicken curry, chicken tandori) and many of the items were already running out. And when I asked for some items to be refilled, I was told that the chef was out running an errand. Keep in mind this right in the middle of was lunch time. Anyways, I got what I could pack into my to-go container and munched away. The food couldve used a lot more spice and flavor, afterall that is what makes Indian food so popular to begin with. This whole experience makes me sad because I really looked forward to trying this place and there aren’t many Indian places nearby. Maybe it was just an off day, but Ill pass next time.

What an understated little ditty down on Lemmon Ave. I drive by this place quite frequently as it is in my neck of the woods. And every time I drive past it I think to myself — that place looks kind of sketchy, but I bet it is the best Indian food dive around. The most unassuming places can surprise you sometimes. The interior is much more appealing with fun, somewhat amateur brick wall paintings of Indian symbols and relics, but it makes sense. It is definitely not a serious place so the whimsical and crafty décor certainly echoes that vibe, you dig? I went there for their buffet lunch, which is very reasonable in price, but does not have much to offer. With, all together, only three chicken/veggie masala and curry sauces to choose from one with a sophisticated Indian palette would not appreciate this buffet. Since I am pretty much a newbie to Indian cuisine still, I piled my plate up pretty fast. But even I have noticed more selection elsewhere. The food was yummy, nonetheless. And the service was friendly and welcoming. It is a casual neighborhood restaurant that is perfect for a quick and satisfying lunch!

Dallas is lacking in Indian food options. If this place were situated in Irving, I’d definitely bump this place down a star or two. But here I am in my apartment craving Indian food like you would not believe and this is the closest joint nearby. It’s situated inside an old Pizza Hut that’s been repainted in all sorts of different colors. The best part is there’s a buffet ALLDAYLONG!!! Woo hoo! The buffet will put you back around $ 9 – 10 buckaroos. Now I’ve definitely had better food but this place satisfied my craving for at least 24 hours until my next Indian craving hit. The selection is small but includes spinach paneer, tandoori chicken, and other staples. Food is on the salty side but naan was nice and warm. I’ve come back a few times since whenever I’m too lazy to drive the 15 minutes to Irving. Give it a try if you’re in the mood for a buffet during dinner b/c well… no other Indian place has a dinner buffet.

Be not afraid, say-ith the Desirae. Small buffet, but everything was fresh and changes daily. Definitely cheaper than Roti Grill. Everything is pretty mild for my tastes but would be great for someone who has never eaten indian food before. I’m sure I would prefer ordering off the menu to get it more to my liking. All in all good enough to go back.

Kudos to my coworkers for being braver than I am and trying this place, vetting it, and then convincing me to try it. I mean, it’s right next door to a 7 – 11. But apparently that translates to one cheap, yummy buffet that didn’t give me food poisoning! WIN! The buffet selection is small but tasty, and the spiciness isn’t overwhelming(phew). They also have a slightly sketchy salad bar, a daily soup, and two basic desserts(the rice pudding was mm-mm goooood, but I stay away from gulab jamun — just not my thing in general). Oh, and… unlimited naan?!? I’ll be back. Lunch buffet was about $ 8 with tip. Totally worth it. Unless you’re SUPER picky about Indian food, this place will suit you just fine.

Taj looks like a bunch of Indian graffiti artists ambushed an old Pizza Hut and painted the whole thing with billowing-trunked elephants and shivas. It’s fairly entertaining stuff. Actually I haven’t paid too much attention to the painted cinderblock artwork because I’m always concentrating on just what the heck it is I’m eating. This place is over-run with cabbies, so you kind of have to be prepared to jostle a bit if it’s crowded. The buffet line is rather compressed. Shabby and worn badly around the edges. Cheap. Clean. Decent. Been here forever… no atmosphere, well actually it IS kind of creepy. In fact it does kind of remind me of the inside of a taxi cab: oddly comfortable yet you feel strange sitting in there. But if you need some quick Indian food, this will do the trick. My brother(6 foot 8) and his friend used to hit up Taj on the weekends and devastate the buffet to the point of shutting it down. That’s the beauty of this place. You can do that if you want. I would rather make a surgical strike for some naan, the crispy papadum(kind of like chips), and some of the fried spinach. Then I will always get a piece of the tandoori chicken, and whatever potato and vegetable dish they have. There will be an unidentifiable meat in sauce(OK I think it is chicken), and the delicious saag(creamed spinach). All of this I spoon over rice. The food has a smolder of spice to it but not too much heat.
So fill up fast… eat here with a friend(you won’t impress a date), and do a little networking with the Dallas Cabbie crowd while you’re at it. 3.5 stars.
