Called in a to-go order to this location and was told it would take a good 15 minutes to fulfill my order so I take my time getting there. When I do I arrive, a server tells me that they lost my order and it was never rung in. He was apologetic and rings it in and asks me if I’d like a drink while I waited. I said yes thinking he was offering me a complimentary drink to make up for their mistake but knowing I wouldn’t sit there and finish it once my order was ready. He brings me a margarita and, I kid you not, I am 2 sips in and my order is ready. The guy had left the bill in front of me and had charged me for the drink! I left pretty annoyed, full margarita on the counter. Taco Diner just swindled be out of an additional $ 12 in under 5 minutes-cheap move!

I’m just getting to know this place. The food taste okay(reasonably priced), the atmosphere is laid back, it’s across the street from the Magnolia Theater. Eat inside or on the patio — servers are friendly. The 3 stars is for location and affordability.

Had the mushroom street tacos and they were great! The chips and salsa were great as well. I also had a frozen strawberry margarita and it was made just right! Came here on a Sunday so the parking was a bit difficult, but we used valet parking across the street at Mi Cocina and it was very convenient.

I want to give 3 and a half, or maybe even 3 and ¾…I don’t know why I can’t quite go 4! We stopped in for a quickie before the movie, and shared a couple of appetizers. Guacamole(5 stars) made just like I like it: simple. I love avocado’s so I like it simple.(I added a squeeze of lime.) And we had ceviche that was good.(3 stars) I like my ceviche to be spicy and tangy, their’s has fruit in it. So, it’s just a personal taste, really. But you know what? Go form your own opinion! It was good and fresh, and I’d go back to try some street tacos, personally! Chow!

we are very familiar with the brand and all the food that they offer. we decided to visit this particular location because we r familiar with all drinks and food. well. I could tell they had a pretty tough lunch run. we arrived around 3 – 4 and were seated quickly inside . well we waited about 7 mins to get chips. then another 5 to get a waiter . the manager noticed that we had not been waited on … he quickly came by and asked how our drinks were . Michael hadnt even got to try his … (odd huh) so we finally got our queso waited another 10 – 15 to get fresh chips and we were out of salsa and had to ask for refill . anyway I am sad to say we will not visit here Again

We came in right before they closed and the waiter was still more than happy to serve us, let us take our time, and enthusiastically suggest drinks and dishes. Surprisingly, it was so good. The queso was warm thick and delicious, and our waiter brought out like 4 different dipping sauces. My portobello quesadillas were also delicious — warm crispy and delicious mushrooms– and my bf surprisingly enjoyed the cheeseburger. I wish the chips were warmer but overall we had a really high quality and attentive meal.

I know my tacos and tex-mex around here, and this place was just not it. It wasn’t underwhelming or overwhelming… it was just, whelming. Came here on a whim after getting my husband fitted for a suit across the street. It was around 7 on a weeknight, so not incredibly crowded. Weather was decent, so we sat out on the patio immediately. I went for the street tacos(chicken al pastor, fajita, and traditional ground beef), and the hubs went for the crunchy shrimp tacos with elote. Nothing was bad to the point that it angered it(bad food makes me mad), but it wasn’t incredible either. The agua frescas were delicious(lima-limon and mango), which were generous in size and 1 free refill. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. Perhaps stick to the other restaurants(e.g. Mi Cocina) that are part of this restaurant group. Good for a drink on a nice warm day.

You should 100 percent get the brisket on jalapeño cornbread. It was actually my second choice and I wasn’t too excited about it until they put it on the table. It’s a big plate, so you could get an app and split it with someone and be just fine. The brisket is moist and the cornbread is sweet. The combo is delicious.

I’ve put a lot of things in my mouth in my day, tacos being a fairly frequent food that finds its way down my throat. As such I’ve developed a connoisseur’s pallet for both good and bad Mexican food. This place falls right between meh and whatever. I didn’t spit it out. But the tacos are bland and flavorless. It’s a cool spot with a nice patio but that’s all it’s got going for it. I won’t return, but you can do what you want with your mouth and I’ll do what I want with mine.

I dine out 6 – 7 times a week in Dallas and Fort Worth… this was my worst dining experience I can remember in 31 years. Waited 15 minutes after being seated before we received chips and salsa(by a gentleman taking them to all the tables NOT our waiter). After sitting for 25 minutes still with no waiter or drinks I had to go ask the hostess for drinks. Took 10 more minutes to get them(35 minutes total). After 10 more minutes our waiter finally came and took our order(45 minutes total). We requested a refill on our drinks and salsa and didn’t get them until our food came 15 minutes later(1 hour after sitting down). Waiter acted annoyed and rolled his eyes when asked for a second plate for my fajitas. I’m not sure how the assigned tables for waiters is here, but it looked like pure chaos with waiters standing right by us discussing and passively arguing over whose table was whose. The fajitas were really good, but took an hour of crappy one star service to get them… making them far from worth it.

This place made me so sad. Cute spot, great location, and killer concept BUT the quality of the food & cocktails was just bad. We stopped by after a movie at The Magnolia for some late night tacos and sangria. First off, the sangria was way too sweet and tasted like there was a splash of cherry cough syrup(knock off grenadine maybe?). We ordered a trio of tacos and a quesadilla. We couldn’t even differentiate between the fish taco and the chicken… it was a moment of «what is this that we’re eating right now?» There was no flavor and it just tasted like nothing. I’m surprised it’s so popular, and usually so crowded. It must fill a niche for«Mexican» food in that neck of the woods.

I used to like Taco Diner a lot, although I haven’t been in quite a while. A friend and I decided to meet here for lunch before shopping/pedicures. OMG. No bueno! I will say service was on point: our waiter was nice and very smiley and polite. Everything else was blah. Chips are too thick and bland. Salsas are watery and blah. I ordered the chicken tacos al pastor. Despite being obviously coated in seasoning, the chicken was soooo bland and dry/overcooked. I dumped some salt on them hoping it would bring out some hidden flavors but that didn’t help. The side of rice somehow was also not yummy. My friend ordered the crispy chicken enchiladas. They were basically taquitos covered in sauce. Too crispy to properly cut with a knife and fork but too messy to pick up and eat with your hands. With Mi Cocina literally a walk across a one-lane street, there is absolutely no reason to come to Taco Diner.

Holy crap. TERRIBLE service. I waited a week to write this review and simmer down but now I know why Uptown D gets a cruddy rep. In town to celebrate my husbands birthday, we drove in from Austin to explore and decided to scope out their many outdoor mall equivalents of the Domain. We waited to be seated, and that was ok. From there on out the visit went south. Waiter came and took our order, water and OJ, not a big deal. Took a while to return with drinks even though it was a slow morning, we were OK and in no rush. Order placed for oatmeal, breakfast plate and a breakfast brisket plate. Waited and waited, and drinks finally arrived. The glasses were dirty, waiter caught my water glass specked in black and my husbands OJ with dirt also stood out. Gross. Food came which should be amazing but here’s where it all went even worse: 1. Waiter dropped slices of husband’s bacon on our outside patio seating tables. Asked«Uhhh is that ok??» But we had waited 15 – 20 mins for breakfast food and he didn’t want to be inconvenienced. Plus, I feel the waiter should have offered to replace without making us feel like it was a disservice to him. We didn’t get more bacon FYI, he ended up eating the ONE slice that wasn’t dirtied. 2. Oatmeal was made with milk which is OK but when we asked for oatmeal made with water since husband has a dairy intolerance, it took him another 10mins to return to basically say«Sorry, no oatmeal for you then… Want me to take it off your bill??» Uh yea. 3. Hugest red flag of all: getting to pay the check, he held onto our credit cards for over 15 minutes after he picked them up. WTF!!! We watched the table next to us have an amazing waiter on top of their game, their check picked up and returned to them within the next 5 mins. So shady. Then after we got the credit card, no receipt papers that we could sign or even any way of knowing if we truly paid off our tab. It was like he hadn’t even run our credit card. Yikes. I went inside, stood there waiting and waiting and the waiter totally ignored me. Overheard him saying he doesn’t speak Spanish and refused to rush back out to service additional parties sitting on the patio and without any apologies went and printed out check. Seriously, so disappointed. Never again. Unilocal typically steers me to amazing fooding adventures but this one sucked. Goodbye!

Only came here for the frozen margarita. Sat outside and it was Thanksgiving… like November … A frozen margarita outside in the middle of November… And of course, I had more than one! They make a sangria margarita(called Mambo Taxi) that is amazing! Two and I felt a buzz. Right across is another restaurant that I was recommended while on the plane, and when I asked, I found out they belong to the same owner. It seems Taco Diner is the chill counterpart to the other restaurant! Prices seemed the same at both and both have an outdoor patio, but I had been told Taco Diner was the place to be, and I do not repent! :) Also had the guacamole… Nothing special, but would come back to try other stuff. This is not a date type place. This is a quick bite and go type sit down in my books, and that is ok with me!

This was my first time at this location. We were at the Ft Worth location a couple of months ago and it was wonderful. Our experience here was essentially the same. We were greeted at the door by a friendly staffer. We were promptly seated in a booth. Bottom line for my wife and I, the place is clean, the staff are friendly and exceptionally well trained. Best of all the food is wonderful. I will certainly be back!

Love this spot. The west village location is fantastic with shopping & entertainment surrounding it. They have a large patio as well as a good size interior for outdoor and indoor seating. Dogs are welcome outside. Their brunch on the weekend may very well be my favorite in Dallas. $ 6 mambo sunrise & flavorful brisket con huevos are my go to. I am always very full and satisfied with a reasonably priced meal. For lunch I usually opt for the Los Cabos salad which is delicious & nutritious. I order mambo limousines rather than taxis for a taller drink at night. Chips and salsa are unique, promptly served, and very flavorful. Great friendly service & fabulous TexMex dining at a reasonable price. Can’t go wrong here.

Taco Diner has a trendy atmosphere and a really nice patio. The service is great, and everything there is really consistent. They’re owned by the same people as Mi Cocina, so there are a lot of similarities on the menus and in the flavors. The food is fun, fresh, and different from your typical texmex. Everything is high quality and quite flavorful. The only downside to me is I find their green salsa and roasted dark red salsa to be somewhat lacking compared to other comparable Mexican restaurants. For the main dishes, zero complaints on flavor. It sounds weird but my husband swears by the cheeseburger. So take a risk, give it a try!

A must if you are visiting Dallas and want some GREAT mex! Incredible drinks– japeleno agave margarita= heaven omg! It was seriously perfection. Anything brisket go for it. I got the brisket enchiladas and it came with the most amazin black beans and rice. Ask for all the sauces for the chips at the beginning of your meal– there are so many and spicy ones! Great GUAC too! Overall the best mexican we’ve had since visiting Dallas.
