I love ships! Someone said it was closing and I got so sad, but maybe it was a rumor. If you haven’t been here I highly recommend it, it’s a must do!

Ships is the biggest dive i have ever stepped into and thats why this byob bar is high on my list. The owner is always trashed and they have a great selection of cheap beer.

This place should be made a Dallas… no…Texas landmark and preserved for future generations. Excellent service, cheap beer, cash only, and everyone knows everyone. A magical spot.

If you come to this last-bastion-of-old-school ACTUAL dive bars, please be respectful. Let’s not turn this into another place hipsters come to check in on Facebook & be loud & stare at their smartphones the entire time. The jukebox is amazing, the clientele & staff are unique. If you don’t appreciate this place for what it is, stay away. The way Lowest Greenville is growing, this place probably isn’t long for the world, so let those of us who go here to get misty-eyed when the jukebox plays Beyond the Sea enjoy it in peace in the time we have left with it.

Well there’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said. Ships is a neighborhood staple. It’s the original dive bar that set the bar for dive bars. Stop by and have a beer. If you want liquor. it’s BYOB, just pay for your set up. Nothing fancy here. just a straight forward piece of history that we’re grateful to still hang on to. One pool table in the back. One vintage juke box and plenty of characters to last you a lifetime. One day when Ships is no longer around, I will just stand on in the parking lot and shed a tear for the memories of the past. Long live Ships!

Fabulous old school bar. Regulars like the old Harlows in Springfield mo and the old Cottons. Comfortable and unpretentious. Bring cash.

Yes, add the Ships Lounge to my dive bar list(coming soon)! I think I am at the age where I prefer places like this. Quiet, unassuming, and everyone just wants to hang and have a brew! No one looks up when the door opens because they are too busy watching the game or in deep conversation about how big a fish they caught the previous weekend. They offer food on occasion and if you want to bring your dinner or whiskey(they sell beer, wine, and soda) with you, they don’t have a problem with that. The Ships Lounge is the kinda place your Grandpa used to or currently hangs at which, is cool because you get the best history lessons! Not a fan of strobe lights or skinny jean wearing misanthropes? This is the place for you!

This bar was awful. Went in on a Friday night for my friend’s birthday and the old lady«bartending» kept making us move around the bar to accommodate for her«regulars». She complained to us that 3 of her regulars left because we brought a small birthday party to this hole-in-the-wall bar. We were appalled that she would complain that 3 people left when we brought her 15 customers who all specifically went out and got cash for this venue. We came to a smaller bar for a more intimate setting to spend time with our friends. The bartender got very flustered over there being more people than her usual 5 – 8 and was quite rude. No bar on Lower Greenville on a Friday night should have only one person watching the entire bar. Especially if that one person gets upset that there is actually business in their bar.

Very low key. Older crowd(40−60s). My boyfriend and I are mid 20s and enjoyed it! We had just been in the sun all day, so this was the perfect place for us to have a beer and not get rowdy. No line for $ 0.50 billiards. $ 2.25 canned PBR. Fantastically cheesy«seafront» theme!

The maniacs below are doling out five stars with either sad sincerity or cruel, stats-affecting irony. Ships is great for a quiet place late at night to watch some punk play grabass with his girlfriend while badly singing along to the juke tunes he put in so he can demonstrate how classically masculine he is, while you choke on the rust-turpentine cocktail that is the merlot by the glass. I believe the benefit of Ships is that it is BYOB, accordingly, and dirt cheap. I like those two things well enough, and the bartender I had my first night here not so long ago was kind and quiet and kept to herself, which permitted me to converse in a subtle way with my companion, as I like to — the space reeks of intimacy and confidentiality, of bodies lurking behind the dark corner where the bathrooms are for the unwary patron. Ships might be the best bar I’ve visited for these notes, except that I want to drink, not turn my guts into a a fecal pipeline flooded by light beer and bloodcurdling wine. The juke box rules. Bartenders rule. Corpulent regulars sidled up to the bar rule. Punkass bros on dates do not rule.

Dallas’ oldest bar? It may be. I love this place. Im fortunate to have this chance to visit this bar because I know Dallas have no appreciation of anything historic. They only serve beers here. You can bring you own liquor and they will sell you set ups for only $ 3. I’m excited to come back with my own liquor next time. Carol is very nice and sweet and made sure that we are well accommodated. She told us the story of the first owners back in the 50’s and the murder that happened in the apartment upstairs. Will definitely comeback as I want this place to last even longer before Dallas decided to buy it and tear it down.

$ 2 PBRs — and a rack full of Funyons? This place is absolutely smashing. If you’re looking for a dive-bar scene, this is a great watering hole to dabble in. If you’re a Dallas local — it is your duty to visit Ships.

I LOVETHISPLACE The regulars are friendly and hilarious. They WILL strike up conversation. Bartenders are super friendly and are always putting cash in the juke box(Which is one of my favorites in town, next to Lakewood Landing’s) and letting people choose music. It may have the smallest pool table in Dallas, but it’s only 50 cents to play. You can bring liquor in and pay like 3 bucks for as many glasses as you want. Bring cash. Tip well and don’t make a fuss.

This place was fun! Probably the best stop on our Ugly Christmas Sweater bar crawl! We enjoyed our drinks, danced a teeny tiny bit, hung out, took photos and best of all, played a few rounds of pool. This bar had plenty of room and a great casual atmosphere, not too dim and not too bright. I’m sure we’ll be back here!

Thursday evening is too popular with the lower Greenville watering holes. A trip to Ships was in order. I wasn’t sure if it was even open, when pulling up. Turns out, it was! It just didn’t care to be flashy about it. Belly up to the bar and choose from a handfull of traditional bottled beer. There might have been draft but I don’t remember. Our fidgity waitress, Pam, was a friendly gal. She told me about how the clientel was getting older and subsequently, passing away. There was a notice on the bar for an upcoming funeral for one of their friends. People really get to know each other here. Pam went on to tell me about her seasonal allergies, at which point I offered her one of my allergy pills. She gladly accepted and promptly washed it down with a cold one. There’s a jukebox full of everything not new. They will add credits if you’d like to play some tunes. One of the regulars was able to spout off strings of number that cooresponded to songs he liked. That was impressive! This is a dive. Dives are good places.

Haaaay Ships. You cool. This was stop 4(my stop 2) of the early morning pub crawl of ’13. Epic, it was. It was great the way all 15 of us rolled in, were there for 17 seconds before we realized we didn’t’ have any liquor, and then all decided to pile into Chris E’s van and head down to Goody Goody. And then roll back in, buy setups and drink. Gah that was fun. Thank you, Ships people, for not throwing us all out on our asses. We were loud. We were rude. We were debaucherous. We cussed. We hustled them for our bill when we decided we had to GO right then. I’ll be back and in better behavior soon. I promise, Ships.

my new favorite bar… I moved here from seattle. Seattle is teaming with varieties of neighborhoods with various cultures brewing within them. This is what lacks here in Dallas. I can’t say that its missing entirely just not to par with what I’m used to. In Seattle I spent most of my times going to dive bars rather than the newer flashier ones. Here in dallas amid the concrete, corporate logos and office parks. I finally found a truly awesome bar that gives Seattle bars a run for its money.
