Just not what it used to be. Food has little flavor, service is lacking, and my last visit was sweltering hot in one area of the restaurant. I hate to see what has happened to my favorite greasy spoon in Dallas. Norma’s, here I come.

The food was hot and cheap. Vegetables tasted like they came out of a can. Chicken fried steak was greasy and the crust fell off. Plus, the place could use a good scrub down. Grew up on soul food and this AIN’T it.(As my grandmother would say.) I was very disappointed in the food. But, I do have to say I love that it is local family owned and operated which is enough to eat there again if I happen to be in the area. But, last time I drove 20 mins across town and it was not worth the drive.

Came to Harry Hines to buy for my daughter’s store in Stephenville! Glad we stopped here. Yummy home cooking. Will definitely be back.

The service is fantastic. It’s very much like a small, homie diner. However, the food options are limited and plain at best. I ordered a ham and egg sandwich, which came with lettuce and tomato(which I thought was odd). The service is the reason for my high rating.

Website says they serve breakfast all day but some items not available after 12. This is not true they don’t serve breakfast after 10. Very disappointed.

A diner that serves breakfast up to 11am is not a diner in my opinion. Came in at 11:15 and asked for an omelet and they could not accommodate. I ended up getting a grilled chicken breast that was about a ¼ of an inch thick, broccoli which was absurdly 75% stem, and mashed potatoes with a gravy. Gravy is the only thing worth mentioning that wasn’t terrible.

Houstonian’s enjoying home cooking. This place was delicious, prompt and fast service. Food came out hot and all correct. Not one negative thing to say about this place. I got the Wednesday night special, chicken fried steak, okra and baked squash.

This is old school food. Sitting at your grandmother’s table while the radio plays and the doors and windows are open style food. After a night at the club with friends where I crashed on a friend’s couch I knew when I woke up that I needed comfort food. Greasy, delicious, comfort food and Mama’s Daughter’s has been on my to-eat list for too many years. When I realized I was a little over a mile away, there was nothing that could stop me from going. Not the headache, not my friend begging me to just stay a few more hours until she’d be good to go. Nope! A breakfast of champions was going to happen. And my trophy was going to be filled with delicious, delicious gravy. I grabbed a traditional breakfast. Handmade hashbrowns, two eggs over medium, toast, bacon, and biscuits and gravy. Yep. All that. INMYBELLY. Trust me, it was a much better decision than anything else would have been because I had to absorb the bad stuff so I could function the rest of the day. It was(of course) wonderful, and greasy, and heart-cloggingly tasty.

The waitress was nice, the salad was fresh and crisp(crackers were stale), the cornbread was moist and sweet, mashed potatoes were good for instant, chicken fried chicken, small but tasty. All in all, not worth $ 10, but the salad saved it from a 2 star. Edit: added chocolate pie, OMG, like rubber shit on an old piece of cardboard with whipped cream. Down to 1 star

Truly a local diner, with good food — no fluff. We had(big portions) breakfast and drinks for 3 people under $ 27! It was apparent we were not local, however, everyone was so nice and welcoming — it was another great Ft Worth experience! We had: eggs with(fluffy buttermilk) pancakes; ham omelet; and eggs with biscuit and gravy… all were delicious. Go, your buds and belly will thank you!(And so will your wallet!!)

Really did not know what to expect, but pleasantly surprised. The staff was nice, cautious, and the dinning room was very clean(needed to be updated, but not a deal breaker). What really surprised me was the portions, they were really a grate value. The food was was good. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich and fries not grease at all. I really did appreciate that. The water was very attentive to my needs, but not the point of disturbing me. Over all I would go back. Would I drive out of my to go there? No, but if in the neighborhood and it was around lunch sure I would stop.

They’re open on Sundays. Don’t let the Unilocal page fool you. I stopped in because I drove by earlier in the week and saw the sign outside said something about being open on Sundays and put it on my list. I got the #1 Texan and let me just say I’m still full. For $ 12 I got coffee(the most important) biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and chicken fried steak. Worth every penny. Typical diner food, but still quite tasty especially the biscuits. Apparently they have good pie too but I was so stuffed I couldn’t even think about pie. So this place is setup like your typical diner for the most part. A bar in the middle and booths and tables around the edges. It is a little bland inside nothing really stands out and could use some updating but this place feels more small town then Big D. The workers were very warm and inviting and it wasn’t busy. I literally walked right in around 12:30 on Sunday and didn’t have to wait which is atypical of most brunch places in Dallas. Definitely keeping this on my list just in case I’m in need of a quick brunch spot.

This review is for breakfast. I sat at the counter and had about 4 folks wait on me. Don’t think I ever had a server. Showed up around 1pm for breakfast. Got eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and biscuits/gravy. Bacon was pretty tough like it had been sitting there awhile, eggs ok and the small portion of hashbrowns I got were average. I didn’t care for the gravy at all. Where’s the flavor? My biscuits were a little over brown but I sucked it up and asked for some jelly to try to help them out. Biscuit fell apart as I tried to put the jelly on it. Lackluster food, lackluster service. Eh. I’ll try another one of their locations.

Me and the extended family(7 people) showed up 20 minutes before closing time really hungry and ready to eat. The waitress met us at the door to let us know the grill had already closed! She let us know there were a few things we could order… but what a surprise to a bunch of hungry folks! A pet peave of mine… do you close at closing time or 20 minutes before? I didn’t get to try their food but if you are going close to closing time you may want to pick a different place!

I am big fan of this place, but my most recent visit was beyond disappointing. I went on a Saturday and my most favorite meal: catfish, greens and yams was unavailable… they rotate the menu daily, so if you have a specific item in mind, call ahead to make sure you’re visiting on the right day. I opted for the meatloaf, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. It tasted like lukewarm cafeteria food. Over-cooked, over-processed, under-seasoned and just plain unappetizing. I couldn’t even finish it. The macaroni’s cheese was watered down heavily and the mashed potatoes and coleslaw tasted like they were either made in bulk or came straight out of the box. And don’t get me started on the meatloaf’s sauce.. gooey, hardly the tangy sauce that one usually associates with meatloaf… and not in a good way. I don’t if it was the menu items I ordered but this most recent visit left much to be desired. Very disappointing!

Great local diner. I’ve loved their catering(from the Inwood location) and now love eating in. If you go early on a weekday(say 7 – 7:30 am), it’s a fantastic spot for a quiet breakfast meeting with good grub. I had the fried egg sandwich with bacon. Perfection.

I went back for the second time this week and I can’t say I was pleased at all. I got the chicken tetrazzini and it was some of the worst I have ever tasted. Every bite I took(which was only about 4) all I could taste was crunchy vegetables like celery or something. It was greasy and just funny tasting. I also had the Lima beans and some were cook while mixed in were beans that were still hard. I can’t vouch for anything else on the menu but I would warn you against this Thursday special. A waste of good gas and $ 9.41.
