What a lovely hidden gem in Dallas! I was craving Captain Toms type of food from Houston, and came across John Seafood Wing Chicken House which was very comparable. You can tell the owners really put their heart and soul into their food because it’s so damn delicious! Everything is freshly made. You can see the cook in the back breading the fish and shrimp once you order. Love the fried catfish, and the tarter sauce is delicious. A lot of places have too much batter on their catfish, or they have tasteless batter. But i think it was perfect and not too oily. Hush puppies were great, moist and fresh. Chicken Tenders — so tender and juicy with a kick of Johnny sauce to dip with and better than my other favorite Golden Chick. The only other catfish I would eat is all they way in Irving. So this is close to home and so worth it. My fish was well season and fried to perfection. I loved the size of the shrimp and the gulf taste… my family were happy I found this spot. We will be a regular here.

Good and affordable mix of southern and Chinese food. We tried the«best sweet tea in America» and it was delicious! Next time, we want to try the fish fried rice. The location can be difficult to get to but it’s worth a stop!

The foods here are very good and reasonable prices. The place is clean and cashiers are friendly and always smiling. I highly recommended if you haven’t check them out.

I have only eaten the catfish & fried shrimp. The neighborhood is sketchy. REALLY sketchy. Downright scary, and I don’t scare easily. The restaurant is less than pristine, even for an old … whatever this was originally. BUT this is some of the best catfish & shrimp I have ever had. Some background: I rarely eat fried shrimp. They are usually swimming in breading and cooked at the wrong temperature, rendering them greasy and gross. I much prefer cold-boiled or grilled because of this. John’s does fried shrimp right. Same for the catfish. Few places have their fry vats at the right temperature, and if cooked incorrectly, the fillets are either greasy or crispy on the outsides and raw on the inside. Again, John’s does them right. They currently have a sign on the door that they are renovating. I hope they hurry!

The shrimp was good, however, the oysters were«gamey» and the fish was rubbery. The bars, chains and padlocked doors added to the ambiance… clearly, an indication of the location. Ha! Likely, will not visit here again. PSA: Do not try and use the restroom there if you are not ordering food… they will have none of that.

Chicken tenders and crinkle fries were cooked fresh upon ordering. Strips had a yummy crunchy crust & for the amount of food they were priced well. I wish they had a «wow» sauce for dipping like canes chicken… Service was not good mostly bc u order at the counter – hole in the wall casual. I’d like the try the fish next time.

I’m still videoing some contractors building stuff in a nearby workshop, so I’m checking things out in this part of town that is full of small, privately-owned restaurants that cater to hard-working folks. John’s is a little hole in the wall fish ‘n’ chicken shack that was once a Pizza Hut, I hear tell. I had a mess o’ catfish, some shrimp and fries, and a root beer with a couple slices o’ white bread. Refills were 50 cents. What’s with these little places that don’t have free refills? The food was awesome! Crunchy and tasty deep-fry coating on everything. The shrimp were huge! I didn’t detect any essence of BP oil or anything like that. Three large planks of catfish(like 8″ x 4″!)!!! This was all less than 10 bucks. I had to take some outta there with me! I still had a slice o’ bread, two shrimps and a catfish when I was stuffed! They didn’t have malt vinegar!!! We had to settle for lime juice, but it was actually pretty good! The salt and pepper shaker were completely coated with something sticky and gross, but I gritted my teeth and kept eating. My contractor buddy assures me that he’s eaten everything and is still alive. I have a thing about sticky stuff in restaurants(or ANYWHERE, actually), but I persevered. I wondered how many filthy hands had touched those things since the last time they were washed in the 80’s. It looks like a small family-owned operation. I will still give them four stars, even though I saw the lady near the kitchen area clipping her toenails. It must be an Asian thing. I lived in the Philippines back in the mid-70’s and saw a lot of weird things, but none of it ever killed me, so I figure she can clip her toenails and it’s not hurting anyone. She wasn’t near the deep fryer at the time. There was an old lady at one of the tables who came in after we did. She was the tannest white lady I’ve ever seen. We think she was homeless. I made the mistake of saying something about what was on the news, and she took it as her cue to start commenting about everything until we left. There’s something about crazy homeless people that makes them think everyone wants to hear their ranting about every minor thing. Maybe that’s why they’re crazy homeless people in the first place! You may wonder why I can give a place four stars when there are grody condiment shakers, toenail clipping near the kitchen, crazy homeless customers, etc. It’s because I’m a realist. I know most things aren’t going to kill us, and there are good things even in places that seem a bit rough around the edges. If the food still comes out good, and there wasn’t something absolutely threatening my life about the atmosphere of the place, then I figure they deserve some kudos as much as any other place. If I start spewing from both ends later tonight, I may come in and reassess, but for now, I’m good!
