Saying goodbye to the icon is never easy. My friend warned me the last few days were going to be long long lines with patrons paying their last respects were eager to check in for the last taste. I got there between lunch and dinner(4:40). I was encouraged. No line and just a few fans of the establishment. Unfortunately, I overheard there were only two wait staff. When my friend arrived, it was her second trip of the day! Her defense of what was one of her favorite«go to» places, was they were slammed by the lunch loyalists and had been for days. The service showed. While the food maintained the standard, I will have to hold on to memories of prior visits to sustain the loss of one of Dallas’ retiring legends.

Sorry to see another of the Herrera’s Restaurants close. I believe their last day of serving was 1÷30÷2015.

Sorry to hear that Herrera’s is moving to the Omni Hotel. This was the Tex-Mex restaurant I measured all others by… even San Antonio’s. Who knows what it will be like in their new home? I wish them the best. Staff have always been so friendly and accommodating even when our party grew from 12 to 25 people! The frijoles were delicious, a special treat before the meal. I’ve probably had everything on the menu, but my favorites were the sour cream chicken enchiladas, the chicken chimichanga with queso, grilled chicken & avocado, and the menudo. Our family has celebrated many milestone’s at this restaurant including holidays, birthdays, and first communions. This restaurant will really be missed.

After the terrible treatment we received at the Herreras on Sylvan, this place was awesome.

Microwaved Mexican food served by people who seem annoyed you came and couldn’t crack a smile. No thanks I didnt care for it at all and will never go back. Staff: The staff weren’t welcoming at all. I got the vibe they didnt feel like working and were annoyed they had to stand up to serve you. Service: Waitress wasn’t pleasant at all, she sat on her computer 2 tables away from us, dropped the food and *Never* checked on us. My drink was empty for a while until I called her over. She was sitting literally 10 feet away from us in an empty restaurant so I KNOW she wasn’t busy, but she just didn’t care. Food: They bring out a bean soup that was pretty tasty. Then I got the nachos and they were ok but They were MICROWAVED. the way the fat separated from the oil and made the cheese rumply meant they had to be microwaed. Décor: Its a dive.

Herrera’s is a good place with fast friendly service. It is certainly one of my stand-by’s for lunch when I am in the area. The place is a little«divey» but that does not get in the way of good food, in fact, it kind of enhances it in some cases, and this is one of those cases.

My favorite Mexican food place in Dallas. Chips n Salsa are great. They serve fountain soft drinks with the syrup on the sweet side :) All the Combination plates are good. I like the other location off Sylvan too, but they serve Cokes in a can. When I go to a mexican food place with HOT salsa, I drink alot of soda and and don’t want to pay $ 2 for a can of coke. yeah, they have Tea and water, but I like Chips/Salsa with a good solid Coke to chase it down.

Started off with chips and salsa. The salsa is just spicy enough. I thought bean soup was excellent and the family agreed. Service was great and the beer was served with a cold glass.

I get home after ordering a half order of crazy nachos and got a paper plate full of slop. And was charged $ 11.36. About 4 chips covered with mess. Never ever again.

Very slow service every time I come in. Never to many people in the restaurant. You have to wait to be seated, you have to wait to be waited on, you have to wait to get a tea refill, you have to wait on check. They just wait me to death.

First time here, but doubt I’ll ever come again. This place is average at best. The location entrance is awkward and until I saw my friends I wasn’t sure I was even in the correct location. The service was marginal, our waitress had to leave the table to find out if there was a drink special. We came on a Tuesday and it the special was four dollar domestic drafts. Boring!!! The margarita was a little tart, but strong enough to get the job done. The prices are reasonable and the food was, again, very average. Would I recommend this to a friend? No.

Terrible food… had dinner with 3 friends and everybody’s food was disgusting… I had brisket enchiladas. the meat was dry and salty… somebody had the beef enchiladas with sour cream sauce and the sauce was literally hot sour cream. The beef fajita meat in the quesadilla was so salty you couldn’t even eat it! The fajitas were even bad… how does a Mexican restaurant mess up fajitas?! Literally the only thing good was the pecan praline that was from another company when we paid… not sure how this place is still open.

The bean soup is good here. The salsa is very oniony and spicy. It’s the same quality of food as El Fenix. Tex-Mex food is rarely amazing, but as Texans we eat it whenever we just don’t want to be challenged to try something new, I think. Fifteen years ago this place was a blast– it was always busy, everything was served fresh and hot, and it was always a good deal. I never liked the weird, neon green margaritas, however. Usually, I get a good to average server, but not the last time. His fingernails were dirty, he only visited our table four times, and he didn’t seem to have any experience. Maybe an auto mechanic, trying to pick up a few bucks in a second job? I allowed my dinner companion to pay with money I left on the table, before heading toward the bathroom. While I was away the server took the money and returned to the table with the change, minus two dollars. Normally, at this restaurant you pay on the way out. A pre-teen boy was running the cash register, so after a three star meal served by a one star server, who could I complain to? I was done. I’m never eating here again, even though it is within walking distance from my house, and I have been a customer for over 23 years. The service in these numerous, older Tex-Mex restaurants needs to be better– especially when the neighborhood has become more upscale and the clientele reflects that. There are ten more newer Tex-Mex places that are better than this joint, within a mile. Use Unilocal to find them. Adiós, Herrera’s.

The atmosphere sucked. They charged me an additional $ 6 to add chicken to my spinach Enchiladas. Which was absurd… I’ve seen $ 2-$ 3 dollar extra charge, never $SIX! Waiter showed no effort on our drink refills and we had to keep calling him over to our table . Scratched off our list!

I’ve been coming to this location since ’83. They opened in ’81.I can’t count how many people I’ve turned onto this restaurant. My review might be a little bias, but it is also based on over 20 years of patronage. I’ve tried just about everything on their menu. The prices are average. Everything here just has a unique taste. That could be a bad thing or good. I don’t known that their food would appeal to everyone. It’s not bad just different. Their famous bean soup is so delicious and is a great example of a simple recipe that is consistently done right. The salsa has a different flavor and consistency than most places. The service is inconsistent, but I usually ask for a specific server and stick with them until they move on. Yeah… I’ve seen plenty of good servers come and go in those 20 plus years. I feel as though most of their customer base are loyal customers that have dined here since the beginning and have learned to live with their inconsistency. I do. This is not your typical Mexican joint, so go in with an open mind and appreciate their uniqueness.

Herrera’s is your typical greasy Tex-Mex. I went with a HUGE group and the waiters were wonderful with the service and the food came out surprisingly quick for the group of our size. The chips and salsa are quite good(some of my companions said it ranked in their top 5 for restaurant salsa), and we had pitchers of their fluorescent-green margaritas(1.5 glasses and I was good!). The dishes themselves were quite hit-and-miss. It seems like the more«normal» or «average» you order, the safer you are. Many people in my group said they regretted ordering what they got. My boyfriend’s plate of beans and rice was cold. Go for the margaritas, chips, and salsa. Don’t go too extravagant on your main course, though.

Definitely not closed! Sitting here right now eating their amazing salsa and chips and their bean soup is to die for. I’m getting brisket tacos but I usually get Cindy’s favorite with chicken. Love this place!

First and more importantly, this spot is NOT closed ! I discovered the closed tag when a friend invited to treat me to lunch 2 weeks ago. I went on Unilocal to review the menu and saw the closed notification and panicked. This is one of my favorite tex mex choices. Made a phone call and yay, they are open Can only guess that whomever notified Unilocal HQ of the closing went there on a Monday, which is the only day of the week they are not open or that they selected the Oaklawn location in error which is now closed. I have advised the Unilocal Monkey of their open status twice and that little guy has yet to respond and change the status. He must be a very busy fellow ! Anyway, back to my review. They were pretty busy during the lunch rush, but seating and service was quick. Chips and individual salsas promptly delivered by our friendly server Jose. Two top shelf margaritas ordered and were as usual expertly prepared. Mmmmm, that lovely golden color was immediate assurance that plenty of Grand Marnier was included, and they were simply perfect; smooth with a great blend of tequila and GM. On my list of favorite spots for TS margs. My soft cheese taco was melt in the mouth delicious, quite near as the best ever, close to my favorites @ El Charro in Tyler. A very close second with the pale almost white cheese with specks of jalapenos on the soft corn tortilla. Wish I had ordered two. The guacamole was simple and fresh on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes. Creamy yet slightly chunky with a couple squeezes of lemon, making for a great accompaniment to the cheese taco. Chips and salsa — really like their salsa, but chips leave a lot to be desired for my taste buds. They are too thick and dry for my palate, preferring wafer thin, oily and salty munchies, but managed a few to scoop up some guac and salsa. Were it not for the location, I’d be here 2 – 3 times a month, as I was when the Addison restaurant was open. Hope for another invite to Herrera’s on Denton Drive when a friend wants to make the drive from the northern burbs :)
