Greetings!!! I tried to find a reference on if this place was legit or even existed. Decided to go on a voyage and my discovery made me happy! 1. Yes henderson chicken is located on a far end of royal lane and abrams; yes it is in a storefront parallel to a gas station. 2. Hospitality very welcoming; which is surprising since the location isn’t «marketable» to the eye lol. 3. Prices beyond reasonable; I ordered a 4 piece wing w/fry and extra seasoning…$ 6.50! (Are u serious lol!!!) 4. Wait on order: 5 minutes; restaurant clean and great safety standards for staff… …And then I had my Henderson dinner. Fried crispy, yet moist. Properly seasoned. And best of all? Put it in the fridge when you bulk order to have later? Oven warm later, same experience! Don’t miss out!!!

First and last time. Cheap un-edible chicken. If you are broke, at least it is food – sort of.

The place is not easy on the eyes but the food is alright with me! I am a die hard Rudy’s fan but did not feel like fighting 35 on a friday afternoon so I told myself I would«settle» for something else… Wow! I’m glad I did! Service was ok… cashier didn’t go out of her way but was still helpful. There was one person in front of me. I waited for about 10 minutes for my food… felt like that was a little long but now I know why… My food was popping hot! Just how I like it! The chicken looked a little dark to me… this tells me their grease might be a little bit on the old side… The taste was amazing! I was totally surprised. I got the 3 piece dark(2 legs and 1 thigh) They even gave me an extra thigh… maybe because the pieces were TINY…#stillwinning I think it’s pretty amazing to be full for under $ 5. I will always love my Rudy’s but they definitely have some competition. I’m a fan!

Chicken was DELISH, the staff was also friendly and upbeat. I can’t wait to go back to Dallas so I can eat here again! Great food for a great price, and don’t forget to get cake!

This is my spot when I don’t feel like driving to Rudy’s and waiting forever and a day. Sweet lady who works behind the counter, just don’t come 30 minutes before they are about to close and expect to get chicken.

Best fried chicken ever! Southern for sure! Tasty as heaven and very cheap prices. 1 thigh and a leg basket comes with fries, pickles/carrots, bread, and a pepper for $ 4.06! You CANNOT go wrong! Seasoning is optional(the nice lady serving will usually ask you if you want seasoning but ketchup available upon request. I like mine plain. See, I grew up on this fried chicken. Henderson’s, the one in South Dallas(Grand Ave and MLK) is the original location. It used to be called Sylvester’s chicken. They have a new owner now, but still is the great chicken I remember as a little girl. That’s my favorite location, then this one(Abrams & Royal). Those shoestring fries are to die for! Take the bread, put a piece of your chicken on top, add fries and pickles/carrots and take a bite of that pepper and you’ve got yourself made!

Staff is friendly, food delicious and price is surprisingly low for the quality and quantity. If you are in the area, it’s a must you eat here.

I tried Henderson’s Chicken last weekend with my girlfriend. We ordered the Fri-Sat special, which consisted of three chicken legs and a pepper for $ 1.99. A two piece dinner for $ 3.75…two wings, fries and a pepper. A order of chicken gizzards and livers to complete our order. Everything is cooked to order so there was a wait, but we didn’t mind. The staff was friendly, helpful with the menu and all around very pleasant. However I will say they could work on their organization with calling out the pick-up orders. The chicken gizzards were cooked perfectly!!! A little on the greasy side but delicious all the same. The chicken livers had a great texture and crisp to them. However the chicken was very tough as if the chicken was old. It could be cooked longer for a crunch when you bite into the skin. All in all I would go back if I was in the area and in the mood for gizzards and fries.

Better than any fast food chicken. As good as Sissy’s at ¼ the price. Service can be spotty. Drink machine did not work on last visit(8⁄10). The convenience store down the sidewalk solved the problem, so we ate chicken and drank cokes off the trunk of the car. When two pieces of the best chicken in Dallas are $ 1.99, it’s no problem. Be sure to specify style. If you do not, they will likely suprise you with the extremely spicy version. The bullet-proof glass is a nice homey touch.

So for some reason, I was really in the mood for some fried chicken and I remember a friend of mine telling me to try Henderson Chicken. Now, I am always a little hesitant(almost scared) to try fried chicken at different establishments due to the fact that just because you own an establishment that sells chicken doesn’t necessarily mean that they sell good chicken(no shade, but just keeping it real). So I decided to visit the Henderson Chicken location on Abrams Rd. Upon entering, I was greeting by a young woman. I asked her to give me few moments so that I can look over the menu. After about a minute or so, I placed an order for the 3 wing basket with fries and half an order of gizzards. Here is my personal opinion on the food: It was great!!!(Personally, I think that their food is wwwaaaayyyyy better than the chicken at Rudy’s) The chicken was crispy, hot, and seasonsed just right. Even the fries tasted wonderful and were crispy as well(just like I like them.) Also the gizzards were great and flavorful as well. The only thing that I will pass on next time are the two slices of white sandwich bread that are included in their meals. Maybe its just me, but there’s just something about white sandwich bread in chicken baskets that just doesn’t very well with me. But overall, the chicken was great, gizzards were great, and I was full and satisfied(which is always a good thing). I will definitely be returning every soon!!!

When I arrived the restaurant was empty(besides the gentleman sitting). I was acknowledged promptly and I placed my order quickly after looking over the menu board. I sat expecting to wait for the chicken to cook but was pleasantly surprised when my order was prepared within minutes. That should have been an indication to me that the chicken was not fresh but with such good reviews I assumed that they wouldn’t serve me old dried out chicken. The restaurant is not setup for dinning in and I had not planned to so I drove from Lower Greenville to Plano knowing that I might need to heat up the chicken when I arrived home. When I got home I opened up the bag and started eating w/out warming and the first thing that I noticed was how dark the skin appeared but no biggie considered I asked for extra seasoning. After biting into it I realized that the chicken was dry and when I pulled back the skin to look at it, it was dried out in areas and appeared to be old. It is possible that my experience was not the norm however I will not be driving from Plano to Henderson’s ever again and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else do so. If the quality of the chicken is hit or miss they need to work on improving that. (+) *Prices are really good compared to chain restaurants(less than $ 5 for three pieces and a side) *Restaurant was clean and well maintained *Employee was very nice *Nice size pieces of chicken *Seasoning was tasty (-) *The chicken was NOT fresh and if I had to guess it had been sitting for quite some time. *The basic order does not include many fries. The bagged appeared full but what I found after closer inspection is that there are a handful of fries placed on top of the chicken which is placed on top of two pieces of white bread which makes the bag appear full. If you want more fries(or sides), consider buying an extra order

Still great chicken. The hardest part, when ordering, is knowing how to mix and match their regular price meals with their meal specials to get the best deals. :)

I used to live in Lower Greenville/Deep Ellum area/uptown in my early 20s. Upon recommendation of my apartment’s maintenance guy for good chicken, I went to Henderson off of Grand. My love affair with their chicken began in 2000. Since moving from that area, I’ve lived in a lot of places — even Memphis — and couldn’t find a place this good anywhere. I’ve been all over the metroplex before settling in to the area I’m in now. Lake Highlands? Yes, I love it. Imagine how happy I was for my fiancée to bring home some good fried chicken. He had heard from co-workers about this chicken and brought it to me. He knows how much I LOVE fried chicken. One bite took me back to the place I frequented over a decade ago. It all came back to me. I felt like I was dreaming! Yummy seasoning, jalepenos, jalepeno carrots, pickles, sliced bread… super delicious chicken… A quick google search showed that this was the same people that had the place on Grand. I knew it! I am so happy to live close! The lady at the counter is sweet. The chicken is delicious! Just the other night, I went and got a thigh meal. It was a thigh, fries, pickles, jalepeno, jalepeno carrots, and seasonings for $ 2.87. This place is delicious! Under $ 3? What?!? The chicken is better than sissy’s chicken and they’re crazy expensive. This is truly the best deal for the best fried chicken. I could eat this every meal. I’m the only white person every time I’m there. To be honest, that’s a good thing. Anytime something becomes too commercial, it loses its awesomeness. If you want great chicken, this is the right place. They don’t have anywhere to eat — its take out only.

VERY hot inside with the sun shining in and no air conditioning, which made waiting in line a pretty warm and sweaty experience. I am glad I called ahead, as when it finally was my turn to pay, I had my bag chicken & fries in my hands less than a minute later. I was pleasantly surprised to see that an extra piece was thrown in to make up for the wait. I was even more pleasantly surprised after biting into a golden crispy bit of awesomeness! Tip: they have a 2 piece special for just $ 0.99, with a limit of 5 per order. Most of the people in front of me were ordering the«Five Ninety Nine», which is an amazing deal for this good of fried chicken. Awlllll beee bock!

Ive worked in the area where Henderson’s Chicken is located, Seems like every time the manager/Owners are not there, the employees treat this place like dirt. I remember a manager or employee working there would shout«Welcome to Henderson’s. Now they just look at you like«hurry up». The lat 3 times I’ve been there, they seem to give me the smallest pieces of chicken they can find. Once I asked for 3 wings, and I kid you not they looked like wingets, close to nuggets actually. Today I ordered a breast and a back, I got a good size breast, but the back looked like a ball of fried dough. Its a shame I have to go spend my money on a bigger fried chicken restaurant when all Henderson’s Chicken had to do was provide quality service with quality food portions. This is at the Grand Ave Location.

This chicken is tasty! The crunch and the flavoring is right up my alley. You can get good chicken all over this city, but in this part of town I would say that Henderson Chicken is the king. I’ll definitely return.

I waited well over 30 minutes for my chicken, while waiting people coming in and out of the back of the house talking and breathing over food without washing hands. After receiving my chicken i did not receive pickles in my basket and i paid for extra pickles. They have lost my business for life, and i will tell everyone I know not to frequent the henderson chicken located on abrams rd.

I love Henderson’s! Fresh chicken, but the seasoning is what makes it pop even more. I get extra seasoning!(yes, I know. but its sooo good, especially on the fries!!) I always get either the 3 piece chicken tenders or 6 piece tenders…(dont judge me, but I have a thing about chicken on the bone. I just can’t do it! lol) and always made to order.

Hmm. Did I not drink the correct Kool-Aid before finally eating here? This place gets good reviews in the press, it’s descended from one of Dallas’ most revered fried chicken place, and I expected nirvana. I got fried chicken. Now, it’s not bad fried chicken, in fact, one of the pieces was really, really good. That’s my issue — I hate inconsistency. If I have a three-piece chicken order, I’d really rather have three OK pieces than one splendid one and two slightly over-cooked. The fries were as limp as Brett Favre(Google it — it’s a very funny reference.) I’ve never understood places that can put one item into hot oil and have it fried well and put another item in the same oil and have it almost inedible. So it goes. I will certainly go back and try again, but I’m a bit confused by all the hype. I can’t believe I’m a fried chicken snob — I didn’t think there was such a creature. There’s really no seating area, so it’s take-out. It’s pretty cheap, so if you like fried chicken and not high prices, it’s pretty good. If you like supporting local businesses, it’s even better. However, it’s not the kind of place that’s going to make me drive past the local Church’s to get the good stuff — and that’s the biggest disappointment of all.
