Glazed Donut Works

I was intrigued by the concept and excited to try this place out, but I was sadly disappointed. The prices are in my opinion ridiculous for donut shop no matter how different the theme… aren’t donuts made the same pretty much? But for roughly 4 – 5 bucks, I wouldn’t spend it again on a single cake donut.
I tried the Deep Ellum Bluesberrie
And the Red Velvet donut.
The red velvet was delicious I will definitely give credit where it’s due.
But the Deep Ellum Bluesberrie was dry and lacked luster. Sorry to be a «Debbie downer» to the new fad in the hipster part of town. but I appreciate good food and my fellow foodies will understand my disappointment.

That being said, the chocolate donut ice cream sandwich was beyond good. It’s definitely the ice cream, which is a vanilla bourbon one, and it was absolutely delicious. If I could buy tubs of it, I would.
I’m very, VERY partial to the donuts in my hometown, so this was going to be a tough competition from the beginning, but this place definitely holds its own. There is a variety of choices, from regular chocolate and cinnamon sugar to peanut butter. The ice cream alone is worth splurging on. It was a cute little place to get dessert, and I suspect in the summer it’s even better.

Cool inventive fun variety of choices. I went early on a Saturday morning and missed the crowd. I think I got one of everything that was out at that time. I didn’t actually get to eat them until later because they were cold. Cold donuts are no fun. I warmed them up and they were all yummy. The Elvis killer was my fav!

If you ever find yourself in Deep Ellum late at night on a Saturday you have to stop here and get a donut grilled cheese. The mix between the salty cheddar cheese and the sweetness of the donut is stellar.

I love this place! They are as good at 11 PM as they are at 10 AM. Vegan options, plus so much more. Creative treats that are sure to please anyone’s sweet tooth.

When you stumble out of a bar at midnight and see a big donut sign and a line formed, you know you HAVE to try it!
I’m a big fan of Doughnut Plant in NYC so I was curious to see how this measured up. YUM YUM YUM!!! Went a little overboard and ordered way too much but it was fun to share with friends and take a bite of a few different kinds. We got the vanilla bean glazed, mini crème brûlée, red velvet with cream cheese, old fashioned, French toast, something with Nutella and the grilled cheese with bacon on a donut (I mean cmon I HAD to)! The red velvet was my favorite. So rich and yummy and the cream cheese frosting was everything!
Line moved quick and it was fun to meet others waiting in line.

The maple bacon and red velvet were awesome. They had a lot of choices but I went with the classics since it was my first time. The workers also love military!

Wow wow wow their donuts are worth every calorie! If you like a thick pillowy donut with a center that makes you want your bed made out of it, this is the place for you!
I had the classic glaze, chocolate chocolate, and apple crumble and loved every single one of them. I’m not sure if this is related to the Glazed in Houston but I love them equally as much!
Also, I super love the logo because it reminds me of the Johnny Cupcake logo :)

When it comes to breakfast dishes donuts are admittedly my weakness, so in a way it’s maybe been a good thing that I haven’t found a go-​to donut spot here in Dallas since relocating here three years ago. While Glazed Donut Works probably won’t be enough to bring me back to my weekly donut shop visits when I was living back in LA, it’s good to know that there’s a really strong option here in Dallas.
Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?
Glazed Donut Works have really done a great job matching their interior décor with the trendy atmosphere that is Deep Ellum, and the trendy showcases make for a either a quick in and out if that’s what you’re looking for or a more prolonged visit to sit and enjoy your spoils. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
For some bizarre reason donuts are starting to command a premium these days, and it seems Glazed Donut Works have fallen victim to this trend. My standard glazed donut was $ 1.00, which is maybe surprisingly more than what I paid for donuts of the same size back in Los Angeles. From there, my specialty Apple Cobbler Donut came in at $ 3.00. These prices are high, but they’re not quite enough to have me withholding stars. It’s close though. Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
This turned out to be a tale of two donuts.
To start, I always judge a donut shop by their standard glazed, and the standard glazed here at Glazed Donut Works was a bit weak. I appreciated that the glaze wasn’t firm to the point of flaking off (a common pitfall), but there simply wasn’t enough glaze to offset what was a pretty big donut, and the result was weak flavor.
Having said that, my somewhat mediocre glazed experience was but an afterthought after one bite of my Apple Cobbler donut, which was absolutely divine. A delicious frosting of sorts blended perfectly with apple crumble and some real apples on top. Wonderful.
One mediocre one great? Call it Single Star Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
Glazed Donut Works dishes up solid donuts, and while they’re not up to some of the best I’ve had in the country, they’re worth paying a visit. No Star Granted.

This place fits perfectly in Deep Ellum serving hipster donuts. We were in this area around midnight and there was already a pretty good amount of people in line outside the shop. They display donuts that you can see through the window so by the time you make it to the cashier window, you will already know what you want. There were several kinds of donuts such as mini crème brûlée and french toast with whipped cream (literally). Thankfully I was with my group of friends so we were able to order different ones to try.
The donuts here are sweet (as any donuts found elsewhere). The dough is thicker than the regular fluffy donuts so that was interesting. My favorite one was the pumpkin filling flavored donut which will be perfect whenever the cooler temperature arrives. Overall, come here to fulfill your sugar cravings and try out their donuts!

By the time I remembered to call (around 11am on a Thursday), they were already out of the regular glazed, mini PB&J, Biscoff Cookie (vegan), and the Saigon Cinnamon Sugar. Luckily I called when I did, since they were nice enough to place my order to the side for pickup at a later time. By the time I arrived, they were sold out of most of the other flavors, so definitely come early or place your order ahead of time if there are particular donuts you want to try. This time around I got to try:
–Deep Ellum Bluesberry ($ 2.50), Buttermilk Old Fashioned ($ 2.50), Chocolate Nutella Old Fashioned ($ 2.50), Red Velvet ($ 3) [
: All were pretty good, but my favorites were the bluesberry and chocolate nutella. The red velvet was good, but definitely sweet with the cream cheese frosting.
–Maple Bacon Rings ($ 3.25), Coco Loco ($ 3.50) [
: The maple bacon rings were probably my favorite, and the coco loco was a close second. Highly recommended!
Overall, Glazed Donuts Works is definitely worth checking out for any donut connoisseurs out there. Parking can be tough since there is limited street parking, but we were able to find a spot easily on the day we went.

Not your average. I definitely got the maple donut that was topped with bacon. A friend of mine got a vanilla bean donut due to the fact I took the last bacon donut. I don’t recall trying hers but I definitely enjoyed mine. It was sweet as expected, but the bacon was incredible. So many options to choose from, I couldn’t go crazy on my first visit. Just another excuse for me to come back numerous times.
The lady that took my order was extremely nice. She was happy. Made my first visit welcoming. That goes a long way with me. Dealing with crazies downtown, she could’ve easily been annoyed. I think I tipped her even. If not, I got her next time.

OHMYGOD SPECIALTY DONUTS YES.
To be fair, when I opened the Unilocal App I was looking for anything other than Krispy Kreme, Daylight Donuts, etc. I wanted a good, local donut shop that the locals loved, and I found it.
It’s not my first specialty donut shop, but it was the first one I’ve been to in Dallas while visiting, and it certainly did not disappoint. Unfortunately for me, I needed a donut (or donuts, who am I kidding?) that I could eat while going down the road, and as delicious as the specialty donuts looked, they were just way too messy for it. I tried their classics, and the woman behind the counter recognized that it was my first time in and made some suggestions. She even threw in a free donut, which is the quickest way to my heart! I tried the buttermilk old fashioned and it was by far my favorite. Next time I’ in Dallas I’m really looking forward to coming back and trying that S’more donut that I had my eyes on!

From all the comments I heard about this place, I was really expecting it to be out of this world. Also, only being open at specific late night hours or wary mornings really made me think this place would be worth it.
But I thought it was just okay. Perhaps I didn’t order any of the avante guarde donuts, but it was a decent find.
I tried the Nutella chocolate — great combination of flavors, but the sugar was just too much for me. I wish they’d put a little less glaze on it and a little more Nutella. It would have been a much better combination.
I also tried their apple cinnamon combo. Same issue. Wonderful flavor profile but the sheer amount of sugar was just too overpowering for me.

We were heckled for about an hour while we stood in line at approximately midnight to try the concoctions at Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum. People telling us that we were crazy… the donuts were overrated… and the famous ‘it’s JUST a donut.’

Well dang, they were right! The donuts fell a little short on the favorite donut list. I loved the concept and it was cute waiting in line and finally getting a peak inside of the store when we made it past the point of no return in the line. But the highly anticipated donuts were, in my opinion, not worth the wait.
We ordered the maple bacon donut (him), grilled cheese w/​bacon donut sandwich (him — although he’ll say US… don’t believe HIM lol), Saigon cinnamon sugar (me) and a plain olé old fashioned (me). $ 16.50 worth of donuts (don’t judge us)! I liked the two that I had, but I feel like there wasn’t anything SPECIAL about them. Especially the grilled cheese sandwich — okay, I took a few bites (forced) :-)
I’d say it’s definitely worth the EXPERIENCE, however, I don’t think their donuts measure up to other local and nationwide chain donut makers.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while but just never found myself in Deep Ellum area to give it a try. This weekend I finally got to go but realized I wasn’t missing out on much. We tried 4 of the donuts they had left, the red velvet, maple bacon, coffee chocolate and pineapple rum fritters. The red velvet tasted pretty good but it was a bit dry. The maple bacon was sickly sweet I could not enjoy this at all. The coffee chocolate tasted good, had a nice hint of coffee blending with the chocolate cake but had the same texture issue as the red velvet. The pineapple rum fritters were quite interesting as its slightly crisp on the outside and soft on inside but it was very uneven as some parts of it were really hard.
Overall, I think this place is quite mediocre. Their donuts dont really have the donut texture, they are very doughy almost like cake (like a cheap dry cake). The flavor was pretty good but the texture just isn’t there. I can think of several other places that serve these specialty donuts and make it much better so I would rather go to those.

Man oh man oh man. A grilled cheese donut, ice cream donut sandwich, strawberries and cream filled donut, where to begin?!
There is most likely going to be a line when you get there and street parking may be scarce depending on when you go, but find parking, be prepared to wait because it is all completely worth it.
The grilled cheese donut was AMAZING. They take a glazed donut, split it in half and grill the unglazed sides, then melt cheesed cheese on the glazed sized and behold you have every sweet and salty person’s dream in a single bite.
Donut ice cream sandwich was so light, you’d expect to feel super heavy after eating this but their donut is so fluffy and the ice cream was so creamy that I was able to eat my grilled cheese even after finishing my donut ice cream sandwich (yes I ordered both).
S’mores, if you love handmade marshmallow they definitely don’t skimp, they lay a giant piece of thick cut house made marshmallow that has been brûléed on a donut topped with chocolate and graham cracker bits.
Strawberry and cream filled donut, out of this world. They stuff that donut with a ton of fresh whipped cream and strawberries.
Iced coffee, I really wanted a picture of their pink capped coffee so I asked them to pour my iced coffee into a hot cup. The coffee itself, just plain black was delicious, it balances out with the sweetness of the donuts, but if you prefer something to your coffee you can add things like vanilla!
Over all, this place is AMAZING. You know a place is good when they have a store front and are only open 5 days a week. The only con would be there’s no where to sit down and eat since they only serve donuts out of a window from their store. My friends and I decided to just sit on the curb of the street and watch Deep Ellum come alive while enjoying our donuts. The wait usually isn’t too bad, and the workers are all really nice! Can’t wait to come back!
For all you native Austinites that love Goughdough’s let me just say, you know that feeling you get after finishing a donut from Gourdough’s, you feel really heavy, and you can taste the grease? This place keeps everything light and fresh, don’t get me wrong, I love Gourdough’s but this place definitely won’t make you feel heavy or greasy after eating anything off their menu!

Is it doughnut or donut? According to my research the official spelling of the word in question is ‘doughnut’. Spelling it as ‘donut’ is a simplified Americanized version of the word has been around since the 19^th century. Based on further research it seems this spelling did not catch on until late in the 20^th century; thanks mostly to Dunkin’ Donuts.
Regardless of the correct spelling I am here to report that Glazed DONUT Works has some of the best DONUTS around! Period. No questions asked. Without a doubt this is easily my most favorite donut shop. They have some unique creations with some very cool names. Ever had a mini Coco Loco? What about a Blackberry Moonshine? How about a Soul Child? These are just a few of the amazing creations from Glazed Donut Works and all are on my favorites list. They even offer a vegan donut (or is doughnut) which is always very tasty. Actually the vegan donut creations tend to be some of my favorites. And vegan is healthier; correct? So there it is; a healthy donut (anyway that’s my story and I’m sticking with it).
Stopping by during their daytime hours allows entry into the shop where these magnificent creations are on display inside glass cabinet. On my daytime visits I have always found the staff to be very helpful and personable. The menu changes daily (for the days they’re open) and can be found on the board just inside the door. Show up at night and you will need order from the window and wait for your order to be bagged/​boxed up. In addition to their well known hours (Wednesday: 7am-​12pm; Thursday: 7am-​12pm; Friday: 7am-​12pm, 10:30pm-2am; Saturday: 9am-​1pm, 10:30pm-2am) they are now open on Sundays (10am –3pm). Regardless of when you decide to go, just go. You can thank me later.

Worth it! It was worth my sister and I driving in a thunderstorm. It was worth standing in line during the thunderstorm. It was worth paying $ 10 dollars for parking. Although, I gave the parking attendant the strongest side eye in life. It was all worth it!
Glazed Donut Works is located in Deep Ellum in Dallas. During my teens and early 20s I spent a lot of time in Deep Ellum. I clubbed here, got my tattoos here, and ate here. So it would make sense to have a donut shop open at 10:30 at night. Trust me the party goers are here.
We walked up and it was a line. It wasn’t too bad. This may have to do with the rain on this night. We stood in line for about 20 mins. Honestly, it didn’t bother me. I was taking in the sights and reminiscing of my time in Deep Ellum. I made it up to the order window. The young lady was very pleasant. I ordered a Donut Grilled Cheese w/​Bacon (GCB), Lil Key Lime Pie, Chocolate/​Hazelnut, and S’mores. I was handed my pretty pink box full of donuts. I had to wait a little more for my GCB. Oh but once I got all my items… pure heaven!
Donut Grilled Cheese w/​Bacon: I started on my GCB in the car. It was so good. The perfect blend of sweet and salty. The actual sweetness of the donut wasn’t overwhelming. The cheddar cheese is thickly cut and it oozed with goodness. The bacon was crisp and cut the sweetness. The donut itself had a slight crunch and I was a happy camper.
S’mores Donut: It’s a sight to see. You have this big donut with a huge marshmallow on it. It is toasted like you would over a camp fire. It does have graham crackers sprinkled on top of the chocolate. The surprise in the center of the donut hole. It has a chocolate filling with hint of hazelnut. Yummy!
Chocolate/​Hazelnut Donut: This is pretty self explanatory. It is a cake donut and not yeast. I devoured this thing. It started with me taking a bite. Then, I was like I’m done. But I wasn’t. LOL! I kept picking at it. Finally, I looked up and it was gone.
Lil Key Lime Pie: I should have bought two of them. Oh goodness! This is by far my favorite. It really taste like a key lime pie. It was rich and creamy. It had a graham cracker like crust. This donut is so damn good!
To sum it all up. We went in the worse condition. Spent about $ 25 to include parking. But Glazed Donut Works proves that it was all worth it. We’ll definitely be back.

After a week in Portland, leaving unimpressed with their highly publicized donut establishments, I felt intent on sampling big D’s own fatty breakfast cakes,
with the thought that they were as good if not better than the rainy states.
A morning stroll down Main in urban wet Deep Ellum, the pink sign of a donut poised above crossed rolling pins spelled skull and cross bones, euphemistic of their euphoria inducing deadly calories.
The floor case was displayed with an artistic minimalism of only about 9 individual flavors, with the stock in back on roller trays.
The plain was sold out around 10am, but the nine choices included: mini peanut butter and jelly, mini chocolate with caramel, coconut vegan, maple crawler topped with a bacon strip, powdered cinnamon, and mini key lime pie.
The mini chocolate special had a name which I forget, but was close to German chocolate cake, with a buttery icing and drizzled in caramel. It was both dense and moist. We wolfed ours down on foot clearly knowing — we’d be back.
