Came for lunch with my wife on a Groupon. They overcooked the first steak terribly and«take two» was not impressive. It was a flavorless, spiceless, New York Strip. The sauce tasted like a mostly butter hollandaise. The Kroger strip I buy, spice, and grill is 10x better and obviously at a better price. The funny part about this place is the frozen french fries… what a joke. Im sorry… but you call yourself Steak and Frites but use the same fries as a fast food joint. They need to rethink their«Formula» if they want to have any chance at survival. I would not even come back here with a groupon.

I’ve been wanting to check out Firepit Steak and Frites ever since it opened and finally got the chance this weekend. My first impression is that the restaurant itself is clean, well laid-out and cozy. We were greeted almost immediately and our waiter told us we could sit anywhere we wanted. I had never heard of Frites and had to ask about them. Our waiter said they were french fries with truffles(still don’t know what that is… lol), which makes them really good. I ordered the 12 oz Angus Ribeye cooked Medium Well; it came with bread, salad and special sauce for $ 18. I’m not a huge fan of their salad, but it’s okay. The bread was steaming hot and tasted great. The Frites/Fries were good, but I found nothing special about them. They could have easily come from a frozen package. The«Firepit Secret Sauce» tasted suspiciously like A-1 Steak Sauce. My steak was cooked perfectly; however, my mother had ordered her 8 oz Angus Strip Filet Medium Rare and it came out badly undercooked. She sent it back and it tasted pretty good after that. It’s pretty obvious that their steaks are not prime cuts; nor is the cook a master chef when it comes to preparing meat on a open flame. Our waiter was nice but really needed a breath freshener of some kind:(He was attentive for the most part, but didn’t refill our glasses frequently enough. He actually completely forgot to refill my ice tea toward the end and there only two other tables with patrons. All in all it wasn’t a bad dining experience. The overall quality of the food was above average considering that we paid only $ 35 + $ 7 tip for two complete steak dinners and sides, including unlimited bread. For the price we really had no complaints. I’ve paid roughly the same amount at Dunston’s and got a MUCH inferior meal. If you want a $ 50 – 60 prime cut than this probably isn’t the place for you. But if you want a nice change of pace without paying too much than Firepit works just fine.

Great place for a surprise date during the weekday! Make sure to remember that this place is BYOB because it was unclear until I got there. All-in-all great atmosphere and the truffle sauce for the frites was delicious.

The service was slow, my med-rare steak was barely pink in the middle and while finishing up our meal, something fell from the ceiling onto my husbands paper napkin(it was dark wet and gross). Needless to say, we will never eat there again!

Fries = good. Suspicious if from McDonalds. Special steak = no flavor. Filet = doesn’t look like filet, not thick and juicy, bad sauce. Bread = suspiciously looking like it wasn’t made here. But comes out warm. If you ask for more ketchup. Be careful they give too much. Service was almost horrible. The waiter never checked on us. They messed up on our drink orders twice.

I don’t know what everyone expected from a $ 15 combo you order at the counter. I personally think it’s fantastic for the price. We always get The Formula medium rare with fries, which comes with unlimited salad and bread AND plenty of truffle sauce to pour over the meat and fries. I don’t care too much for the cold, hard bread but the bowl of freshly tossed walnut salad is pretty good and was refilled many times. The steak was cooked as I had ordered and very delicious with crispy fries and truffle sauce! I love that it is BYOB, we brought a bottle of red and it was a — flowing throughout dinner. Took off one star because they only had one waiter on a Friday night, another star for the hideous screen they have at the counter. Really, it is the FIRST thing you see when you walk in and doesn’t exactly set a positive first impression! The interior itself isn’t too bad and it’s very clean though! Will return for sure. Best deal for the price.

Maybe this place has improved, since these low ratings? I’d rate it 3.5 stars. My wife and I went on a Friday night and enjoyed the food and service. It was a nice evening so we sat outside. Typical Texas view of parking lots and cars — very authentic :) We had the Filet and the Chicken Breast. All their entrees come with a Walnut salad and a choice of either truffle fries or grilled asparagus. The Walnut salad was very good with plenty of tasty dressing and I think some mushrooms. The fries were thin, nicely fried and good, but we tasted no hint of truffles. The grilled asparagus was great. Filet was really good also, The chicken breast was a bit dry(maybe they start with frozen chicken?). Love the fact that it’s BYOB too as it allowed us to enjoy a nicely aged Napa Cab at a good price. Corkage fee is one dollar. We’d go back.

Nobody at the table finished their plates. The steaks were poor quality and the fries were decent. They are extremely over priced so unless you have a 50% off Groupon you should avoid this place and go next door.

Not bad, not great. Shoestring fries I’m almost certain are frozen. Salad was a bit soggy but tasted OK. Table cloths are plastic. Bread and butter was good. No sweet tea offerings. BYOB. Steaks were prepared well, but I didn’t care for the vinegary sauce it was served with. Overall, with some tweaks here and there it could be a better place to visit. Right now its gonna stay average for me until they step it up and stop cutting corners.

After reading the mix reviews my date and I decided to visited the fire pit for the first time this Saturday evening, and found it to be extremely displeasing. The service was extremely poor and the quality of food was even poorer to say the least. The four stock of asparagus on my friend plate was extremely overcooked and could not be eaten. There was only about a handful of customers in the restaurant when we arrived and still took an hour to get our dinner. Unfortunately this is a restaurant that I would not recommend to anyone again based on the quality of service and of food. After our experience, I have come to believe that some of the reviews are not as straightforward as should be, but again this is one guest opinion. I will say that we did speak with the on duty manager Muhammed about the quality of service and the food and he did comp our dinner, I did explain I did not want a free dinner but just needed to let him know how bad the service was but I do appreciate him comping our meal after such a bad experience.

Bought the Groupon because it sounded like a phenominal deal: $ 15 for $ 30 worth of food. Well, basically that will only feed two people, and you will still have a leftover total on your bill. I came here last night for Dinner, and this is my experience. My boyfriend and I were traveling all the way from Carrollton to North Dallas during rush hour traffic to make our reservation at 6:30. We were running a little late, so as a curtosey we called the resturant to let them know we will be late. Called 15 minutes before 6:30 no answer went to a generic voicemail… called 10 minutes before 6:30 same situation…5 minutes later they finally answered the phone. Interesting. They didn’t seem bothered about us being late, so we stopped by Specs to grab a bottle of wine because the place is BYOB. Specs is convientally located by the resturant. The place was difficult to get to if you are heading East on Walnut Hill because you have to make a U-Turn before the dart station in order to get into the place. Than you are unsure which enterance to go into because it is connected to a Meditteran resturant. We walked into that place first. Walking into the place, it reminds you of a checkout for McDonalds mixed with a diner vibe. The menu was a minimum, and we decided to both order the formula because that was the first thing on the menu and we assumed it was the signature dish. Both ordered it medium rare. Well, we sat down and this place was dead. We chalked it up to the fact that it was a Thursday. They took away our wine right away to uncork it, which is a 99 cent per glass fee and waited for our salad and bread. The salad was delicious, but the bread was hard. Than came the food. Mine was cold and was not cooked properly, and had to be returned. It was nice of them to not make a big deal about it, but anyway they were slow so why should they complain? The truffle fries had no hint of truffle and too much salt, and the quality of meat was poor. I could have cooked a better steak at home. The place has only been open for 4 months, but I see this place failing. The Unilocal reviews are accurate, and by not offering a kids menu in a dominant area filled of children that was a bad business move. I have one more Groupon left, and will make sure to chow down on the salad before my meat comes on my next visit here.

This is an average place. Not a fine dining experience but it is solid. We went with Groupon in hand for lunch. The salad was good but the steak needed seasoning and the fries were good. The«secret sauce» was ok but a bit runny. Not overwhelmed but it was a decent lunch.

My friends and I had dinner there tonight, we eat in all kinds of places and this restaurant has made the list of the places we will never return to and there are only 3 in Dallas so far to make that list. We have eaten in Dallas at lest three times a month for almost two years and wow what were they thinking when they decided on this pace. We have eaten at cedars many times and was excided about eating at fire pit… so sorry we did. The food is boring, the restaurant reminded me of a funeral home. No life, music or wait staff… and it was over sixty dollars for the three of us… should have went to MacDonald’s, the food would have been just as bad, but it would have cost us $ 20 instead of $ 60.

The truffle fries are good! Shoestring French fries with a hint of truffle, yum! (BYOB) This is actually two restaurants under one roof. One side is Mediterranean and one is steak. We opted for the steak side. Maybe our expectations were too high. With less than 10 items in the menu, one might expect them to be awesome. Unfortunately tonight that wasn’t the case. The menu is on a board when you enter. It sort of felt like we were ordering at the hostess stand. Then you seat your self at an open table.(Tonight that was an easy task.) I ordered the filet, hubs ordered The Formula and other guests ordered the ribeye. A waitress brings bread, salad, waters and delivers the meal. The filet was okay. It should have been priced around $ 12 with fries and the salad but it was $ 20. It was cooked as I ordered, which is always a plus. The angus wasn’t good. My friend said it was about a $ 2 cut of meat and neither ate more than a quarter of them. Hubs barely ate half of his. But everyone ate the french fries. The meat wasn’t bad it was just kind of low quality I guess you could say. The service was very good for a stand-up order type of place. Our waitress checked on us periodically and was sorry that most of our table didn’t like the steaks. The concept is interesting and I believe it is newly opened so a few kinks to work out, some clean up and finish out to the interior. The entrees should be exceptional if you are only offering 10. Hopefully, they can get a little higher quality beef.

Frankly, I am surprised at the bad reviews of this place. Maybe they’ve improved since they’ve opened. The wife and I went here for dinner after we worked out last night and man, it was good. We got the $ 15 «Formula», which is a 10-ounce steak, a shitload of truffle fries, salad, and bread. The fries were very good and did not have an overwhelming truffle taste. The steaks(we got ours rare) were quite tasty and the sauce was delicious. We enjoyed the salad as well and the bread was hot and fresh. Also, BYOB! We will definitely be coming back here.

I’ve struggled a little with this review. We went on the opening day as I watched them prepare to open for months(My office is across the street and I literally look down on the restaurant). I’m a big fan of Cedars and had high hopes for this place. It’s kind of awkward ordering at the register like it’s fast food, but then having a waiter take your drink order and try to make sure you have everything you need. I normally don’t tip at a fast food restaurant, but obviously feel compelled here making it… awkward. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a disaster or anything, but I wasn’t blown away either. Service: 5STARS! They are incredibly appreciative and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed, comfortable and to keep our glasses full. Tea: 5STARS! Seriously, if you haven’t tried the flavored tea then you’re missing out. It’s not the syrup crap that you get at Cheddars and other places as this stuff is brewed that way and taste great! Steak: 3 Stars — it was okay, neither great nor horrible Special Sauce: 1 Star — it tasted STRONGLY of anchovies and really ruined it for me. Salad: 3 Stars — okay, but a little strong on the dressing. Fries: 3 Stars — like most have said, they were fries. Nothing special. If you want good fries then go to The Mercury at Preston and Forrest as they put some wicked good seasoning on them. These were tasty and good, but nothing special. Overall, it was fun to walk across the street and have a cheap steak lunch. I love the folks that own and run the place and want to support them. That said, I’ll be back.

This place is located in the same building as Cedar’s — our lunch group had seen the construction and the upcoming signs for it for a while, so a few of us decided to give it a go for dinner. All in all, I have no need to go back. –It’s called Steak and Frites. Frites are fries. Their fries are plain, frozen, mass produced. Throwing a little truffle oil on them doesn’t not qualify them into an elite status. If you have the food in your restaurant name, they should be special! By god, you should at least make them in house. –Meat was bland. There seemed to be no seasoning or flavor on the meat used. Sure, they have some sort of sauce you smother it with, but bland meat is bland meat. I did enjoy their salad(dressing on the side). The herbed butter for the bread was a nice touch, but the name sake items really missed the mark.

OK this is a tough situation to rate in terms of stars and there is a little more to the story here so it requires an explanation. Likely our experience overall was closer to 3.5 but I’m extending the benefit of the doubt here and I will explain why. This interesting restaurant is a concept inspired by the French juggernaut, L’entrecôte which is in Paris, Bordeaux and one or two other large French towns. I hear they have put one in New York. We had the pleasure of dining at the Bordeaux location last May with several friends. I reviewed it on TA in late May. Needless to say we all loved L’entrecôte in Bordeaux. It does one thing and does it perfectly, there is one type of steak, sliced with a great«special sauce», frites and a salad with bread. It is outstanding and the place is packed and lines are out the door everyday. Tasty, efficient, well oiled and great service are the keys there. By the way, prices are bargain at around E14.00. Firepit Steak and Frites is located in same building that Cedars is in on Walnut Hill, years ago this was the old Houston’s. Firepit takes the L’entrecôte concept and adapts it to slightly higher level in some aspects but lower level in others but those lower levels could be fixed easily. They have what they call«the formula» which mimics the French restaurant with a nice grilled steak, «secret sauce», frites and a salad. They also have buy up options for a couple of more dollars you can have ribeye, fillet, lamb chops, quail or a fish and chicken option all served with the same fixins. You can trade the fries out for asparagus. Dallas version grills meat on an open fire of mesquite. I think that gives the meat a little edge over the French flat top cooking style. I had the quail and it was perfect. Some of the best I have ever tasted. Wife went for the upgrade with the ribeye and it was really good. Tasted the lamb and loved it. The secret sauce is really good, sort of a bearnaise sauce but less rich with nice tarragon flavor. The fries? Well the fries are a little bit of a problem. They are pretty good maybe a 3 star attempt but our feeling is they were frozen and re-fried. They have a hint of truffle oil and the amount they put on was perfect. A little truffle oil goes a long way. If you are going to do one side you need to knock it out. Do fresh cut and do it to perfection. The salad was really good with fresh greens, heat of palm and walnuts served with what appeared to be a nice house made vinaigrette. Now here is the kicker and how this concept could dominate. BYOB. Bring your own wine, a corkage fee of about $ 1.00/person is added. The French place has one red and one white. They were a private label wine sort of a fruity low end house wine. Dallas wine concept blows away the Frenchie version. When I eat grilled meat I love good red wine. Please don’t try to compare this to a fine a dining steak house. This is casual dining and no menu option is over $ 20. But for the money and the great flavors, it’s a bargain. Service is caring and extremely thoughtful but needs a little polishing. Décor is lovely with the fire pit open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant.

Ok — Calling BS on this place. Again — must be some employees posting here and what is so frustrating about online reviews. This is no where close to a 5 star place. Unilocalers — 5 Star means exceptional, something you cannot get elsewhere! I can get this same stuff at the Sizzler steak house, even Denny’s. Steaks at best are mediocre — far from a good cut of meat. Salad, while fresh ingredients, had a sea of foul oil taste. Fries were fries, asparagus ok, but like 4 small sticks. Will say the service was very good and everyone was quite friendly. Place is nicely set up. The concept was fine — one item to order. But, without quality food what’s the purpose? We took a long last look around — won’t be back. Too many good options elsewhere.

Such great service and amazing food! Def order the formula. The chef is so nice and is so proud of his food! We even got a free Nutella crêpe for coming in on the official opening night. Different style restaurant than I’m used too which I think is great… 1 menu item called the formula.. $ 13 gets you an 8 oz Angus NY strip steak with their special sauce, truffle fries and palmento and walnut salad They also have other meets to choose from. ribeye, chicken, quail. you can get without sauce or sauce on the side Their special sauce is to die for! I ate everything on my plate! Great quality of food amazing employees. I highly recommend trying out and I will definitely be back!
