Dallas’ Truckstock event was the first time I had seen this truck, and being a fan of El Salvadoran food as a result of numerous visits to a local chain of restaurants serving that style, I decided to give it a go with a pupusa platter. They featured pork and cheese filling with a nice topping of slaw. The masa«pockets» had a good flavor and nice texture, but the filling(tasty though it was) was simply too small. I know they’re not supposed to be fried pies or other concoctions that are stuffed to the gills, but the balance was just too far off. I’ll give Dos Paisano’s another try if I see them around, though, because I did like the flavor of these pupusas.

I caught this truck at the new Valley View Food Truck Park in North Dallas. I ordered the Pastellitos based on the recommendation I received from the truck staff. I received 3 Pastelitos(what I know as Empanadas) nicely garnished with cheese, onions and cilantro along with a generous serving of rice and refried beans. The Pastellitos are filled with ground beef and potatoes and had good flavor with a mild spice level. They were fried well with a nice crunch. The Rice and Beans had little flavor with nothing to make them unique. Overall this is a good start for the truck but it could be better. If they put some focus on their sides it would become a much better experience.

The people were friendly and I love the food truck concept. I couldn’t decide between tacos or quesadillas. I went w/the tacos, because they came with black beans rather than refried. I got my box and headed back to the office. When I opened the box, surprise, it came with refried beans. The taco shells were good, but it stops there. The beef inside tastes like cheap hamburger mixed with an Old El Paso seasoning packet. The rice was flavorless and refried beans were typical. The food is touted as Salvadoran, but it just tasted like cheap Tex-Mex to me. I should have known when I saw they just had an econo-sized jug of Pace Picante Sauce on the side of the truck… sorry guys, I really wanted to like this place.
