So sad. I ate here weekly from ‘06’ to 2012 because my weekend job was about a block away. Great food, consistently prepared the same way. Would have given 5 stars back then. Since I quit that dude job, I only came 2 – 3 a year when in the area. They had a price increase in 2010 but it was okay bc the food was good. Then again in 2014 but I only came here rarely by that point. The last time I came here, early December, and I won’t be back, it was not good at all, food and experience. Ordered by phone ahead of time, didn’t have anymore Tres Leches cake, and that was okay. When we arrived to pick up order, we decided to order a dessert. We were asked what we wanted, and the cashier was put off because we asked for a menu. With an eye roll, she handed us a menu. Wife and I discussed what we wanted, cashier stated, ‘we don’t have all the items available’. Logically, we asked what was available, reply was, ‘I don’t know’. We asked if she would find out to let us know so we could choose. Few minutes later, another staff comes out impatiently flailing her arms around repeating over and over, ‘only sopapias’(only 1 dessert available out of the 6 listed in menu). We decline, now just wanting to leave feeling unwelcome — we were the only ones in the restaurant, not a single customer at the table. We pay and getting ready to leave. As we have just ran the Dallas Marathon, my wife asked for a cup of water. Cashier starts to give us one, second staff person physically stopped her and said, ‘No, we charge for that’. I replied, ‘you charge for water?’, a Yes response. We left, ate the mediocre and over priced food at home. We are no longer customers. Sad. I used to love this place, but the staff and service have changed for the far worse.

I HADTOCALL911ONTHEMFORTHEFT Awful service, not worth the hassle for mediocre food! The first clue of avoidance? It’s a nice sized restaurant that mysteriously never has more than 4 tables booked. Hmm The food is okay, not great but not the best. Here’s my horror story… I went there one night, alone and 20 minutes before closing — ordered and poof! Within 2 minutes my food arrived. The beans were re-refried(if you know what I mean) and I ate the meal in a rush as the waitress kept looking over as to signal she was in a rush.(On a side note, I wondered where she had to go in such a rush… beautiful, single Ol’ me was eating alone — surely an ugly hag like her didn’t have a date?) In any case, I go to pay my $ 11.85 bill and she ran the card and said it was declined. AREYOUSURE? She said yes but never showed me anything and refused to run the card again. My iPhone was dead — leaving me no means to confirm or deny her allegations. I asked for five minutes to go to the atm across the street — NO! Instead she physically took back my card and asked for my ID, I should have called the police then but instead I agreed to come back as soon as they opened the next day. I returned to find a baffled young girl, unable to located my personal documents. Then the hag emerged from the back and was irritated with me over the loss of MY things. She proceeded to call Fred Cavazo, the idiot, himself OVERANDOVERANDOVER again to no avail. I finally diałed 911, as I began to pick up on I WASTHEONEWHOWASROBBED! Then Fred casually walked in and gave me a hard time — saying he took it home for my safety. Thanks but no thanks! You’d think my meal would be comped! Hell no, those rude SOBs need every penny they can get, stolen customer cards probably help them get by too :) No worries, I filed a dispute — the customer care agent said it’ll take 45 days, blah blah blah — I don’t care if it takes 95 days, I’m getting my damn money back. Fred, mi amor, words of advice: if you want to stay in business, fire rude employees like the old hag(or perhaps put her in the back scrubbing dishes and toilets), don’t refry your refried beans(less than 2% of the population likes twice refried beans) and remember customer RETENTION is key to any successful business. You guys are barely staying afloat — maybe if you had better customer service 5 tables might be full, even 6 at one time… ah, dare to dream Fred! Was that worth $ 11.85 cents, a 911 call against you and a bad review for anyone to read? Think hard… NO!

good food… HORRIBLE service. Hostess has major attitude. I think the owner lets kids young kids serve and manage the register. Mistake! Get someone that cares about the job!

We have been coming here for years and plan to keep on coming. When you sit down you get your bowl of crispy chips and salsa. You also get a generous portion of relish, big chunks of carrots and onion, and a big dollop of butter. The salsa is mild and flavorful. Make sure to get some corn tortillas to. They are thick and have a great bite to them. Service has always been nice and the same people are always working here. They have daily specials with prices around $ 5.

Love this place! We’ve been eating here for about 20 years. My faves are the Stuffed Jalapeños and the Fancy Nachos. Great ices tea and chips and salsa rounds out a very satisfying meal.

Service was excellent. However, food was bland. Chile and chicken filling had absolutely no salt or seasonings. Salsa was decent but chile con queso wasn’t very good and tasted like watered down velveeta rotel dip. Beef tacos were a little above average. Wouldn’t eat here again.

I started going to this place when I was in High School, so I get it when people refer to it having been around FOREVER. It has is a neighborhood staple for far East Dallas, bordering Mesquite. My Wife and her family have done the same. ALL our kids love it. The prices are acceptable, the portions generous and the food is MARVELOUS!!! I have tried almost everything on the menu and have yet to find ANYTHING they could not cook! The staff is quick and courteous and the atmosphere is like dining at your own special restaurant. it’s a little off the beaten path, unless you live in Mesquite, But if you end up on that side of town and want some solid tex-mex, give it a try.

Went to this place for the first time yesterday. The food was as expected for a Mexican restaurant. I had the beef enchilada lunch plate with rice & beans(6.95). My plate was cleaned, lol. Also, they had great salsa, which was spicy to me. The service was very friendly.

Our office moved near this restaurant and we go all the time. Fast service, good prices, and delicious food. And I use my debit, credit, and cash there so that’s not true from 8⁄11.

Started coming here summer 2009. My auntie works down the street and they all come here for lunch and she brought me along one day. I ordered the beef nachos. Best nachos I have ever tasted. Each chip has its own topping! Never ate nachos like this before. The service was good. Food was better. I recommend this place to all.

My colleagues and I usually end up here when we’re on this side of town. The lunch combos range from $ 6 — $ 8, which is pretty standard. The service is prompt(even at noon on Friday) and courteous. My drink is always full, and the food is tasty. This restaurant is exactly what I expect from a Mexican restaurant(what a relief), except they serve butter with their tortilla chips. Be aware, they don’t handle special requests well, so if you want rice instead of beans, expect them to mess it up the first time.

I started going to this place when I was in junior high, so I get a little offended when people refer to it having been around FOREVER. Geeeez, make me feel my age guys! However, it has turned into a neighborhood staple for far East Dallas, bordering Mesquite. When we went it was cheap with the basic menu, some specialty items. It looked like a 1970’s El Chico inside. Today it’s a little more pricey with a more extensive menu, but still sorta has the El Chico vibe. The food then was solid and it still is, maybe even a little better. I’d always stayed with the safe items, you know, enchiladas, fajitas. Most of my more adventurous tex-mex cravings are taken care of in San Antonio. But on a whim I tried the Guisado de Puerco con Chile Colorado. It was almost as good as Mi Teirra’s…ALMOST. Downside, the prices went up also. I know it’s a little off the beaten path, unless you live in Mesquite or some other point East of the CBD. But if you end up on that side of town and want some solid tex-mex, give it a try.
