I do not feel this place lived up to the hype. Very disappointed by the sandwich. I have had much better at Potbelly’s or something on that caliber. They also charged me an extra $ 4 for substituting turkey for ham on a sandwich. When I asked about it they acted like they didn’t understand. Overall didn’t enjoy my sandwich.

Oh my gosh my favorite sanwich place in the world! With that secret relish which I have tried to make. I am so glad good places don’t die off to subways!

Like everyone else, the chow chow sauce is really good. If anything, thats what you are paying for IMO. The meat and cheese were good, but did not pack much flavor. They dont add any vegetables which I feel is a big deal. Overall, I would say if you are in the neighborhood, go check it out. Dont expect the best sandwich ever but I remember my experiece being for some reason relaxing. Overall, its a solid sandwich, primarily because of their homemade sauce.

Lunchtime! Enjoy a made-to-order sub sandwich, chips, and fountain drink for a little over five bucks. Tasty deli meats on white or wheat hoagy buns, with chow chow. Their homemade chow chow is a semi-spicy cabbage-based condiment that greatly enhances the savory flavor of their subs. The hoagy buns they buy from an outside bakery. Clean, neat, tidy dining area. Political campaign posters are posted on their walls, which detracts from the customer experience. You can sit at a big, yellow, indoor picnic table if you dine in. Overall, a good establishment to try out.

The reviewers that gave this restaurant 5 stars must have had a whole different experience than I had. I spent $ 15 on two sandwiches that were a little bit of cold cut, and a «Brockles» type of dressing. Which is a sweet version of Thousand Island. The atmosphere was not really one where I want to sit down and eat. As a matter of fact, they didn’t make the sandwich while I was there, they just reached into the cooler and got one out. I respect that the family has been in business for a long time, and I give them Kudos for that. It appears they have some loyal customers.

It’s all about the chow chow. It’s their signature sweet and tangy cabbage relish. Be sure to ask for an extra side of it. They also have baklava and Diet Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry soda.

I have been going to Antoine’s for over 35 years — since I was 7 or 8 years old. The family that owns the business are extremely friendly and remember you every time you come back. The sandwiches are fantastic. The french bread is soft, except the end which is a bit harder(my favorite part). The chow chow relish is to die for. They will sell you chow chow to take home to use. I get the«Super» which is extra meat… Also, they sell Dr Brown’s sodas which is a perfect companion to a sandwich and Zapp’s chips.

An unmatched family legacy of a restaurant. I grew up with my father taking me for a Supreme(«Super») combo when we visited downtown. The owner of 35 years has a remarkable memory and a warm heart. Make sure to stop by and have a sandwich that you will always remember.

You can tell it’s family run the moment you walk through the door, as the friendly older man(owner) greets you and even walked me around to the coolers where the sandwiches are to explain how it works. I didn’t have any reason to have a sandwich especially made for me, and just picked up the Turkey and bag of Zapp’s Voodoo chips. I’m not the biggest cold sandwich eater, mainly because the bread always sucks. Not here, the soft, fresh french bread was reminiscent of Jimmy John’s and the ingredients inside were just as fresh. I’d definitely eat here again, especially if in a hurry since the sandwiches are already ready and waiting for you to devour!

Looking for an inexpensive healthy lunch choice in this area so decided to give this a try. A tuna sub and water was +$ 7. No lettuce or tomato and four pickles on a wheat sub on a picnic table is too expensive for me.

Grabbed a bite here after spending the morning at the Perot. You walk in and you immediately get the«neighborhood deli» feel. You can tell it’s been there a while, you don’t have both feet in the door before the owner(?) is greeting you from behind the register with a big smile, and you just feel welcome. You order, and by the time you’ve picked out your chips and coke, your sandwich is ready. I got the original sandwich and it was really good. The sweet relish was unexpected and really tasty. Was this the absolute best deli sandwich I’ve ever had? Probably not. But was it the best atmosphere and meal for the price? Absolutely. You can’t beat it. I’ll definitely be back and recommend you try it out.

We had the poboys with the chow chow. The sandwich was ok however the meat and cheese was a bit lacking, 1 thin slice of each and a bunch of chow chow. The bread was not a fresh and we would have liked. Maybe we caught them at the end of their day it was 2:30pm and they close at 3pm. It was a bit of a let down.

Seriously?! $ 5.00 for a sub, chips, and a drink? Holy cow! The proprietor keeps the place neat and clean(the inside is nicer than the outside) and was extremely friendly as I paid. I grabbed an original out of the fridge. The bread was soft and fresh, and the ingredients were terrific. I really enjoyed the relish and other toppings. I’ll be back. It’s an easy walk from the hotel I usually stay at when I’m in town. Thanks to the Unilocalers who recommended this great find!

best fresh sandwich in Dallas. Bread is good, meat is high quality, and the owners are there working and are very nice. I usually get a few subs for the fridge when I go for lunch. Don’t be fooled by the location and décor– the sandwiches are awesome!

Very cool place. Looks like it’s been there forever. Good solid, inexpensive po-boys. Lots of people grabbing sandwiches to go or you can sit inside at a picnic table. I assume the owner is the guy at the counter. Very friendly. A great, local hidden Dallas gem.

I think liking this place depends on(a) if you like really fancy sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, the works VS.(b) if you like simple meat and cheese sandwiches. I did not like this place. I don’t like how it was not busy and yet they wouldn’t make our sandwiches fresh(we had to get them from the cooler). I don’t like how I have to pay extra for pickles and olives. It was disappointing. The sauce was great but it wasn’t enough to save the sandwich. the bread needs to be fresher and if the sandwich is known for only meat and cheese, then please put MORE meat and cheese! These are your star ingredients! I’m a fan of jersey mike’s, potbelly, which wich… places that really stuff the sandwiches with different ingredients. Maybe I just wasn’t used to this simple concept of sandwiches.

Great lunch deals can be had on the cheap up here. I decided to stop in after the normal lunch hours and closer to the closing time. They offer a pretty basic sub type sandwich. They have a small cooler type that has pre made sandwiches available for you to choose from. I made sure I ordered something that wasn’t sitting in that cooler. The sandwich itself wasn’t huge but it was damn good for the price. It was so good that my inner fat man made a decision to buy another sandwich and eat them both. Damn you fat boy well he took it easy and only had one bag of chips and a diet drink. The place is fairly well known and I was glad I made the trip out there. It has the hole in the wall type feel and again you saved money in case you want to drink later.

$ 5 for a lunch combo-where else can you find that? Not like $ 5 – and then tax and everything else. I’m talking $ 5 for an 8″ sandwich, a bag of chips, and a can of your favorite. All inclusive. 5 ones. 1 five. That’s it! They’ve been there 51 yrs and I’ve been driving right past it for the past 8. No longer! The chow-chow really does make the sandwich. Owner is behind the counter – he may look off-putting, but I took the advice of my fellow Unilocalers and chatted him up. He recognized me the next time I was in and is super chatty now! His wife makes the food — so be sure to give her a smile as well! One note — if you drive a sports car, don’t park in the lot to the back/right of the store — you’ll scrape yourself on the way in and out, no forgiving angles to be found.

As I drive up to this shabby sandwich shop, the image in front of me is puzzling. Shabby sandwich soup with a Mercedes, Porsche Boxster, and a Lexus parked out in front. Either this is a really good sandwich soup and a front for a drug-smuggling operation. Kidding, of course. Antoine’s has quite a bit of history. It’s been around for a very long time, you can tell because the appliances havent been updated for about 30 pushing 40 years now. It’s funky in there. The lunch menu is hidden around the corner next to the sandwich station. Another new customer and myself stared a little puzzled at the menu. This shit is cheap. Lunch special of sandwich, chips, drink for $ 4.59. No wonder they still got those old appliances, and that’s cool as long as the food is good. I ordered the Roast Beef. Right off the bat, you can tell that it’s pretty fresh. I would have liked a little more roast beef but it was layered about three times alternating with the provolone, nice touch. The mayo was slathered on real nice but the most unique part was this special relish(chow chow). Whatever Chow Chow is, it’s a pretty interesting relish, extremely aromatic. It’s a dark brown-ish almost looks like bits of carmelized onions but it’s not. All in all, I just thought the sandwich was just pretty normal, not special or the best sandwich ever. Antoine’s is being carried by its regulars and their nostalgia. It’s a decent sandwich place but really overhyped if you read the previous reviews.

Antoine’s is my favorite sandwich shop. Period. I’ve been going to Antoine’s since I was 6 years old. No matter what day I go, the owner still greets me by name and his wife is still behind the counter making sandwiches. We’re talking about 30 years later — where else do you find that? It’s the«hole in the wall» place that you want to know about. The type of place you hope your friends suggest when you ask for a recommendation. And, after you go, you’ll find you crave it at the oddest times. Go. Enjoy. Order the«Super» and get a can of Black Cherry Soda.
