My cousin from Buffalo recently came to visit me in Atlanta and asked if we had any vineyards, I was unaware of any vineyards except for château élan, but after a little google research I found Three Sisters and decided I’d take her there– we drove up from Atlanta on a Thursday afternoon, The vineyard was BEAUTIFUL!!! We did the $ 15 wine tasting– you get to sample 6 wines for $ 15, we tried 12 different wines and split each glass– the server also let us get a freebie! The staff was SUPER polite and we enjoyed great conversation and wine– I will definitely go back during the wine festival in June. We initially did not know what to expect– people should keep in mind that Dahlonega is NOT Italy, nor is it Napa Valley– but it was quaint, beautiful and all that I’d expect a winery to be in GA… actually it was MORE than I could have wished for–

While some wineries take the snobby approach, Three Sisters has taken the redneck approach to wine-making. Their wines are sweet, jeans and overalls are everywhere and Doug is a hoot. This is a good place to stop when you are wine tasting. A couple of the wines are too sweet for me, but some are down right tasty. Not a bad place at all though I am concerned that the«redneck» piece is more gimmick. They reuse wine barrels inserting oak screws into the barrels after the oak barrel itself is spent. This lowers the quality of the wine for me.

We are fortunate enough to live in the area, and have been meaning to get by there and check out their wines. So when I saw they were doing a special tasting that they only do one weekend of the year, I knew it was time to hit it. What is this special wine, you ask? They have 2 dessert style wines, one is Georgia Port and the other is an ice-style wine. The Georgia Port was very velvety and tasty, but $ 43 was a little steep for our pocket books that day. Part of the reason for the big price tag is that in order to fortify the port, they have to transport it to NC and then, after the 5 minute process, bring it back to Georgia! Hello, GA, wake up and help the wineries! The ice-style wine was good too, but we decided to save that purchase for another day. The tasting room was run very well. When you get there, you are greeted and put on a list for tastings, then when there’s space at the bar, your name is called and you go up. Its not a cluster like just down the hill at Frogtown! The people behind the bar were friendly and nice. For $ 20 per person, we got a nice glass to take home and a choice of 4 tastings from their selections, plus the 2 special dessert wines as well as a taste of a new wine that they are selling in a refillable 4 litre jug, its called the Georgia Jug. So that makes 7 tastes for 20 bucks with a glass, if you’re keeping score. The Georgia Jug is a red table wine made from a blend of a few varietals. An interactive wine experience, you get to stamp the label and help fill the jug. Fun! We liked it enough to go home with a jug, and the jug came with 4 tiny wine tumblers with face jugs on it. Also, the tasting room is very approachable and is filled with folk art. Lots of face jugs and primitive style paintings by a Georgia artist named John«Cornbread» Anderson. As cool as his work is, I should have taken some pictures of his artwork that was around and for sale. You can see it here if you’re interested. I know some other reviewers have mentioned the dirt road that they are on. Yes, its a dirt road, yes there are some ruts, but they aren’t car-swallowing ruts, you just need to slow down, take your time and enjoy being out of the city amongst the vines. You’ll be back in Atlanta sitting in traffic 85 soon enough. We would definately go back and take friends and family with us.

A little hard to get to… there was barely a sign and like other reviewers have said, you just keep driving on the dirt roads until you hit a field. Nice little place. The wines are ok. The person who helped us out with the wine tasting was great she was really friendly and helpful. One of the owners was not as good. We bought a couple of bottles of wine and noticed that they put them in a double bag. Another couple who had done the free tasting and bought one bottle got a single bag that was much nicer. When we asked the owner if we could have one single bag so we could give a bottle to someone she said the single bags were only for people who bought 6 or more bottles. Wtf? Overall a good experience but a little more customer service from the owner no less would be nice in a time of recession.

This is a hard place to find… go to the end of the dirt road… across the field and there you are! The wines are on the fruity side. Some of their lighter wines taste like something you would put on ice out by the pool. However, some of their reds were flavorful and unique(something I like to look for in vineyards). This is worth a stop if your in the area, or wanting to find the North Georgia Wine country

Funny story. When were were in Napa Valley back in 2005, we visited Robert Sinskey Vineyards. They were selling a special blend relatively cheap and only at the winery because they’d wanted to call it «Three Sisters» for the three daughters of the proprietors(or something like that… memory is fuzzy on account of the age and the wine tasting involved), but they found out that they we’re allow to distribute that because some winery on the east coast was called that. So full circle — two years later, we visited Three Sisters in Dahlonega, when we finally made the trek to North Georgia wine country. Three Sisters is just down the hill from Frogtown. The road is somewhat ominous, as it’s not paved and it’s got big ruts, and I wasn’t sure that the Camry would make it back up the hill! The owners were quite friendly. They were personally working in the tasting room, which I always appreciate, since it allows you to get a feel for what they’re really going for and why they’re in the wine making business. The wines were ok, and we bought a bottle of the basic stuff. In general, to me the wines taste very fruity, like warm pie or jam. Not awful, but not really something that I’ll go back to again and again. My best friend’s cousin had her wedding here, and the pictures were beautiful.
