truly a throwback to easier times. bateh brothers was once a saloon, and there was another saloon across the street called the«turn out,» because truckers from the kaiser cement plant would barrel down the hill and«turn out» into the parking lot across the street so they wouldn’t need to use their brakes. george bateh is the owner/patriarch here. this is an institution for people who want an excellent selection of beer/wine/spirits/personality. they don’t have something? you want it? you got it within the week. great neighborhood liquor store. top notch.

The exterior is a bit shabby as is the gas station across the street but inside you’ll find a respectable selection of wines. People seem nice.

This place is awesome. It is the definition of old school. It’s the way a shady looking liquor store outta be. I walked in on a friendly argument which the two guys, one customer and the owner roped me into. It was hilarious how they were ripping into each other than asking for my opinion. The owner is a super friendly guy and rounds down if you dont have the exact change. I came in as a total stranger and he treated me like I had been his customer for ages. That everyone is a lost piece of friendliness and community that’s lacking in modern society.

Bateh brothers is great! They always have what you want and if they don’t they get it for you. I love the great customer care… always with great personality.
