Massage Envy – Cromwell

Out of all the MEs in CT this one is my favorite! The staff is polite and knows me by sight now and my therapist Leeann is awesome although booking two weeks in advance is recommended highly since the great therapists get booked up!
I recommend the aromatherapy or DMT as add-​ons depending on what you’re looking for.
Leeann has strong hands and can get into all those stubborn knots in your shoulders. I go more for relief than relaxation and she provides!

I recently had a couples massage to treat my boyfriend for his birthday. It was also his first time receiving a professional massage. I had Adam who was absolutely fantastic. I had always had previous massages from women and they were never quite satisfying. I was apprehensive at first to receive one from a man but it was a great experience. Not only does Adam work deep in the muscles, he also does mobility exercises to really personalize the experience. I have a pretty serious hip flexor injury which severely impedes my movement on my right side. He completely understood and did not aggravate the injury. He found knots in my shoulders and neck that I didn’t even know I had to begin with! He repeatedly asked if the pressure was okay and if I was fine with his technique, which definitely eased my fears. He also has a great personality. Very funny and easy to get along with! I’d DEFINITELY ask for him if you’re getting a massage.
My boyfriend received his first massage from Madelyn who was very good. He did wish she would have done a little more work with his back. His back has lots of problems from carrying heavy equipment in the military but he still enjoyed the massage and felt immediate relief in other areas. He even signed up for the membership, which I currently have.

I have had the best experiences here. I started my membership last year and have had massages every two weeks. Erika is amazing and the staff is always friendly and helpful. I’m a klutz and broke my finger in their bathroom. The staff told the manager, who then comped me an add on. I didn’t ask and wasn’t expecting anything. Seriously.

I’m not one to complain for no reason, but this now my 4^th… FOURTH time that the Cromwell massage envy completely messed up. I came back into town today, rushing through loads of traffic to make sure I was ontime for my appointment (because otherwise I would have lost it completely). I get there with 10 mins to spare and am greeted by a very unhelpful receptionist who said I tried to call you at home (hadn’t been in town for the last 2 days) to tell you that your therapist wasn’t going to be available.
No explain action given. No offer to try to reschedule. No explain action as to why they only tried to reach me at my home number… not my cell number… not my email… and not even think when they don’t hear from me by the day of my appointment to try to follow up.
Front desk was rude and crass. Called the manager… still waiting for a response after multiple attempts to reach them
This same thing happened to my wife for an appointment I set up for her as part of her FIRST Mother’s Day. Completely ruined the day. And this has happened 2 additional times. And for those we never even got a phone call. Just a lie saying they did call us (caller ID doesn’t lie)
I couldn’t be more dissatisfied with the service here. Have been to several massage Envys before. Have never been treated this poorly. Even when an issue did arise, the manager completely resolved the problem (wasn’t in the office but they called her on the spot and she resolved it instantly)
I would not recommend this place as they have no idea how to handle their business

I have had 90 minute massages twice. My experiences both times were terrific. Both Colleen and Brian were professional and knowledgable.
The facilities are clean and inviting.
After my first appointment, I decided to sign up for membership. I was happily surprised that it was a no pressure situation.

I have visited four Massage Envy’s in the past 5 years and this one is the closet to my home. I have received one massage and one facial this far and I have a few qualms with both.
First, my massage was OK. I did not ask and am only assuming, and believe my therapist was pretty new at massage in general. It was my first massage from a guy, and he was very by the book however it just didn’t sit right with me. I did not relax because I should have asked for the lights to dim more and I feel like he was a bit hesitant and almost unintentionally tickled me a few times. That kind of ruined it for me.
Secondly, I had a facial in the past two weeks and she (Beth) was quite experienced but she talked a lot and I felt like I was being told to floss more (the way the dentist does) but with my zits… I hope that makes sense. She tried to get me to buy a few Murad products and I got one of the four she offered. One was a jar of pills to help complexion but I’m already taking a multi and biotin, I’m good on the vitamin front. She also didn’t try to kill me by popping every blemish, yes it feels nice at first but some go a bit crazy with the popping but she was good and didn’t scar me up. I’d ask for her again.
The place is clean, some of the staff are still learning the registers since this is a relatively new place, and when I head back I hope I can push them up a star.

So I have been going back to Massage Envy Cromwell since I last posted a review and I have found my savior Liz. Liz gives an awesome facial and is very consultative. I ask for her every time and have seen her about 4 times so far and my face is really clearing up. She is not pushy at all, very smart and I literally zone out during our session.
I have yet to find my favorite massage therapist however Erica was excellent and I will see her again soon.
For the folks who commented on being pressured into a membership I feel bad for them! I too went through the Massage Envy pitch awhile ago which was not in Cromwell. I can only suspect the bad vibes from the consultants was caused by trying to start membership up when the store first opened. Sometimes you just have to ignore it and walk away. I for one would probably never get a standalone massage at Massage Envy however if I cancelled my membership I’d miss Liz.

This has to be the worst Massage Envy Spa I’ve ever been to. I had a pre-​natal massage here and the massage therapist was so afraid to touch me that I felt no relief whatsoever afterwards. I wasn’t that far along in my pregnancy, so I’m not sure what the problem was. He seemed very inexperienced and timid. His touch was so light it felt like my three pound kitten was walking on me. I told him he could be a bit more aggressive but he still didn’t change his approach. The worst part of the experience is that the sales people there give you a hard sell at the end to get you to enroll in their automatic monthly massage program, so be prepared. They don’t want to take no for an answer. They are pushy and obnoxious. I said I’m moving out of the state and don’t know how close I’ll be to another Massage Envy, and don’t think I’m allowed to have massages after a certain point in my pregnancy, so it would be a waste of money to enroll. They kept coming up with reasons why I should still enroll, when it was clear I was uncomfortable with the idea. Please stay away from this particular establishment. I’m sure there are better ME’s out there.

I had a 90 minute massage at 8:30pm on a Friday night. The massage therapist LeeAnn was absolutely fantastic. However, my experience with the business and review is completely negative. They pressured me to sign up for things after my massage, knowing it was late at night and that I didn’t have my wits about me. I specifically asked if I would be charged a monthly fee or if my card would be charged without my knowledge. They explicitly said, «No.» They even went so far as to «reassure» me that the only thing I was signing up for was discounted prices on massages and facials and that my card would only be charged for my services, or I gave late notice of my cancellation. Now, I work for a local chiropractor and massage therapist– I am very well versed in standard massage therapy policies and cancellation notices. All of that I understand. But deliberately misleading the client– unbelievable! My card was auto-​charged without my knowledge for fees that I was completely unaware of. When I called to explain the deception and demand a refund– I was hung up on. I called back and was told the owner would call me. And he never did. I will never frequent this establishment again because of the intentional misleading information and taking advantage of the client’s relaxation. They pounce on you like a lion with its prey after your relaxing massage. They know you are too relaxed to read the fine print and put on an act like they are trying to be your friend, giving you such a great deal, «explaining everything to you,» yeahhhhhh righttttt.

Really great location off the highway in the same plaza as Chicago Sams.
This location is absolutely beautiful, really well decorated, a high end spa feel. Lots of rooms and I was able to book an appointment last minute.
As to the massage I got… well… massage is a very personal thing and each massage therapist will have a different technique. I personally didn’t like mine, it was weird and awkward and couldn’t end fast enough. Thankfully the therapist was 10 minutes late bringing me in and finished 10 minutes early so the hour went by quick.
I recommend once you find the therapist you like, you stick with that person and don’t stray. Each time I have… regret followed.
Overall absolutely beautiful spa.
