Outdated décor and their food was disappointing. The food was nothing like Hawaiian Fusion, but contemporary American and maybe some wannabe Asian pacific ingredients. We got there around 5, during their happy-hours. They had Happy hour special posted in front of the restaurant as well as on their wall inside(half off appetizers and $ 1 off drinks between 4 – 7). Ordered two appetizers and it was okay. For main course, ordered Hawaiian sugar grilled fillet skewer and Sushi sampler. Fillet tasted bland and over charred. Sushi was bland and very basic stuff that you can get anywhere. The worst part was when we got our check at full price. Asked the waiter about their Happy-Hour special after I received the bill and a fat old man came to table rudely and said, «Is there a problem?» Obviously, he had NO customer service experience! He stated that the Happy-Hour special posted in front of the door and on their restaurant wall was for the Grand Opening. We had no problem paying the bill, but we felt that strange old man handled the situation really poorly. We will never go back to that restaurant. I actually regret going to Fins… should have gone to Otani instead.

Fins is closed! Went there tonight to use a Doubletake Deal and the place was padlocked. I called their phone number and it has been disconnected. Hopefully I will be able to get my money back.

I love the food here, though the portions are much more«American»(read: smaller), which frankly doesn’t bother me. The only thing I have ever had here that I wasn’t thrilled with was any sort of steak. This place does seafood very well — their salmon is pretty good, the shrimp and scallops are awesome, and I LOVE the jicama slaw they do. Occasionally when they get busy the service slows, but honestly I’d much rather have some slow service and delicious food while supporting a local business than having mediocre food quickly at a chain. Give it a shot, its refreshingly different.

Located in a shopping plaza off of Route 3 in Crofton. The décor is an attempt to create a tropical Hawiian experience with the massive plants, paintings and fish mantle pieces but really it comes off as tacky. The service is slow and a little aloof. The ownership is visible but they don’t seem to have a problem with barely eaten plates of food being thrown away This place took the concept of Hawaiian food and destroyed it. Every dish we ordered had some type of sweet element drowning the rest of the dish and thus completely overpowering it. My mahi mahi entrée in particular was turned into a dessert. Isn’t one of the aspects of authentic Hawaiian food the balance in terms of the multiple layers and depth of flavors? This was not true Hawaiian food and not pleasant to eat. Enter at your own risk… or get ready for a sugar rush.

I hate to give this 2 stars because the food here is great. The servers/bartenders could all be replaced. We’ve been here 3 times trying to give it a chance and walked out once. It was SO busy and the bartenders never once glanced over at us. We were going to get a beer while we waited for a table. Instead, the owner noticed we were being ignored and came over and served us 10 min after our arrival. I’ve been in the industry for 15 years and ignoring people while you do service bar isn’t a coping mechanism when you’re busy. The last time we were there it appeared our waitress, who was training a young man, looked like she had either been drinking all day or was doing whip-its out back. She was swaying and very awkward to converse with. She wouldn’t walk away after our exchange was over. Also, they’ve been redoing the bathrooms for ages. Tip– do it quickly during the afternoon. You’re only open for dinner. The inside décor… awful. The only thing good about this place is the food. The trivia night, the staff and the décor need to go or this place is going to go out of business. I tried to talk it up to people at the gym next door, but I just couldn’t. It’s disappointed us 3x.

We went here Friday evening(early). I had a Groupon. When I purchased the Groupon I thought it was for another restaurant. In fact we pulled into the other restaurant and realized my error. However, it turned out well because the other restaurant we had ate at once and weren’t so impressed. Fin’s is tucked away in a strip mall and you may be inclined to overlook it. We arrived at 5:30 and the restaurant was pretty empty. The staff were really attentive. They had live music starting at 7:30(we didn’t stick around — we started to move to the bar to listen to the music but the bar area is really small) so we decided to try another night. The food surprised us – it was really good. I had the Ahi Tuna and my husband had the barbequed ribs. The tuna was a little rare(raw) for me but it was tasty and melted like butter. The star of the plate, IMHO, was the risotto! It was magnificent! The ribs were tasty as well — I tasted them and they had a slightly sweet Polynesian flare. I am looking forward to trying this restaurant again and catching the music this time! BTW, I accidentally his ‘Redeemed’ on my phone for the Groupon and couldn’t get it back. The owner was kind enough to go in the backroom and get the number and was very gracious! I always feel weird using Groupon but it prompts me to try places I wouldn’t normally patron. Fin’s is out of the way but I will go out of the way to go back again.

You don’t see Hawaiian cuisine very much in this area, so I was excited to try this place. I feel bad they are in a poor location — not really close to either Baltimore or DC and buried in a strip-mall. It’s a shame, because this place is really good! My partner and I came on a Sunday night and where the only ones eating. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer and the Hawaiian ribs(in a delicious sauce) and the macadamia-encrusted mahi-mahi. The dishes had a nice presentation. It’s a bit pricey, but every dish was unique and awesome, plus our server was great! Mahalo and Aloha!

A fellow groupon’r. We wanted to try it being the menu sounded delicious so when the groupon came along we jumped at the opportunity. Thank goodness for groupon. For an appetizer we had the coconut shrimp which was ok. For dinner We had the mahi mahi(one macadamia encrusted and one candied 5 spice). Both were extremely bland. I also tried the guava margarita and this was good. As others have said, there were only a few tables there yet the service was very slow though very nice. Overall our bill came to $ 75 which is way too much for the blandness(luckily the groupon deducted a bit off that bill). You can go to Annapolis and have 4 and 5 star cuisine for that.

Service was VERY slow even though only 2 tables were being used in the restaurant! Food was decent, but they were out of a lot of the things on the menu.

Food was o. k, décor was 1970’s and very worn out. Service was very, very slow even though the place was nearly empty. They forgot about us after seating us, then again after taking our order, then again when we were finished eating. Skip this place until they get their act together.

My boyfriend and I went last night. I had purchased a group on for $ 15 for $ 35 worth of food. Decent deal and we are always trying to save money. I called in advance and made reservations like the groupon suggested. This proved not to matter. We arrived by 7. It didn’t look overly crowded, but it was busy. We were greeted by a strange old gentlemen who took us to table, which didn’t even have the proper place settings or menu. We waited at least 20 mins before our server showed. He was nice and profusely apologized for the wait and slow service. We ordered the pu pu combo platter for two, sushi and stuffed chicken. It didn’t arrive to our table until quarter past 8. The sushi was so-so. You’ll fare better going to Otani. While the other platters were decent, I don’t feel it was worth the money. Maybe it was so slow due the groupon special. I don’t know. We left paying a total of $ 40 and that was with the $ 35 discount. The food is not worth it. And the décor needs help.

This place is nothing like home. I am from Oahu and have been stationed here in Maryland for a few years. This place should NOT have the word Hawaiian in it to describe their food. I do not reccomend anyone to eat there who is looking for Local style food.

I lived on the island of O’ahu for 5 years before moving to the East Coast. After being away from the islands so long, I’ve been craving some good Poke. Therefore, I took the girlfriend in here to grab some drinks and of course some Poke! Well, I’m still craving some good Poke. This was all wrong. The flavor, the texture of the fish, the size of a cubes of cut Ahi, etc… They simply got it wrong.

I have been putting this off for months. On my three visits to Crofton, we eat at Fin’s two times. I would guess that most people don’t know about Fins due to its semi hidden location. Everytime I visited I ordered the Sushi Salad. Its tuna & salmon on rice, w/baby greens & flying fish roe with cucumber ginger vinaigrette on top. Needless to say its amazing & mouth watering. I’ve also tried the Scallop(small plate) which is pretty good but I like my fish raw. I can’t wait to go back & not just because my parents live nearby.

Ugh. I went here one time and I promised myself I would never go again. A friend had a birthday gathering here and it was the wrong choice. The bar was crowded(read: lots of drinks sloshed on me, my purse, my phone), overly loud, and the clientele was in the late 30’s to 40’s range(which is great.. .if you want to pick up a cougar.. . or the male equivalent). I was drinking that night, so my review is not for the food, but if the bar scene there is any indication, then you may want to rethink your Friday night plans. The location is in a strip mall, but that’s not uncommon in Crofton/Gambrills. I just don’t think, «ROCKIN’ GOODTIME!» when I picture a restaurant/bar across from a supermarket.

Location is very interesting in a strip mall. Food is truly Hawaii fusion with many appetizers and dishes. My colleague and I decided to try the pupu combo platter, mango salad, chicken terriaki dish, and the beef pasta dish. The mango salad was not too good. The papaya was not ripened and was very tough. The other fruit pieces were pretty tasty. However, the salad greens were almost inedibile due to the very salty mango dressing they drenched it in. This dish needs a redo. The pupu combo platter was very nice. Got Hawaiian ribs, crab puffs, beef pasta, chicken tidbits, and scallops. Nicely cooked and great sauces. This dish was really nice. Chicken teriaki/rice dish was done well. Nicely grilled chicken with a tasty teriaki sauce. Main entrees run from 18 – 26 and include steaks and various fish dishes. Overall, this is a unique and special place in Clifton, MD. Worth a stop by for a visit. Has a separate bar, and on the weekends they have live Hawaiian music.

I have lived in this area for so long but was only introduced recently to Fins. It was my friend’s birthday. We hung out in the bar for good reason. The bar food was very tasty according to my friends. I write this review for one reason and one reason only: The Black Pickle Dickle. Have any of you been introduced? It is a shot of Black Jose Quervo followed by a glass of pickle juice. It is fabulous. The manager sent them over once he found our we were celebrating my friend’s birthday. What a hoot. That and followed by Alabama Slammers! too much. What a great night celebrating a great gal!

I have been seriously procrastinating writing this review. I ate here last Wednesday and thinking about it breaks my spirit. I used to live in Crofton and thought about coming here many times; it was a constant reminder since the gym I frequented is attached. It’s an unusual place for a $$$ restaurant due to its lack of curb appeal and cheap looking sign, but they have a nice concept. I really enjoyed the interior — it’s very novel. Rainbow fish wall art, large plants, floral paintings, patterned fabric booths are all a sign that they took great measures to decorate in a Hawaiian style. It was different so I found it very refreshing and non-conventional. The menu looks great, the service is prompt and friendly and the entry way is littered with Zagat survey posters, news articles and magazine commendations. I was excited. I ordered the Hawaiian Fruit & baby greens salad with mango dressing as a starter, hubby got the sweet potato soup. The soup was like liquid dessert; an awesome, creamy soup that tasted of pumpkin pie. The salad, on the other hand, was not fresh. I have done many a lettuce decomposition experiment in my fridge, so I know what black edges that smear into mush look and taste like. I found quite a few of those on the plate. The fruit on top was a nice rescue from the greens that tasted like browns, however, underneath the canopy of baby greens was a pool of the mango dressing the size of Lake Titicaca. Way too much dressing; I should have asked for it on the side, but you know how hindsight works. I was disappointed, but I looked to dinner to make it up. Hubby ordered the Huli Huli Ribs, pork ribs that tasted very much like something I could have pulled out of the freezer and rubbed some sweet bbq sauce into. Not very tasty, unless you consider the fridge/freezer flavor. I got the Macadamia Crusted Baked Mahi-Mahi, which was pretty fishy tasting. I was under the impression now that nothing here was fresh. It had all sat in the fridge or freezer all week before ending up on my plate. What was supposed to be macadamia nut crust, tasted like bread crumbs soaked in butter in a thick layer on top. It makes me want to throw up a little just thinking about it. Unfortunately, we paid more than $ 60 for the meal that neither of us wanted to bother with the leftovers. Maybe it was an off night, maybe we just ordered the wrong things; I don’t know. I do know this, the sweet potato soup and fresh rolls for $ 7 isn’t that bad considering those are both really great. The atmosphere there is very nice, so if you go to try it out, start with the little and inexpensive. Don’t go all out until you feel that you won’t be wasting your money on food that’s on its way out. I would also recommend going on the weekend; maybe you’ll catch them bringing in fresh ingredients.

An interesting concept — Hawaiian fusion — one you’d expect to find in DC or NY or SF or one of those other cities that everyone can abbreviate with 2 letters. Not something you look for in Crofton. They have a fairly tight menu that sticks closely to their theme — there’s not a lot of concessions to the non-fusion concepts here. The seafood is very good — I had the Seared Sea Scallops & Sugar Cane Skewered Jumbo Shrimp & my wife had the Slightly Candied Mahi Mahi. Both were excellent and the ingredients were very fresh tasting. Appetizers — we couldn’t decide, so just got the Pu Pu Combo for Two which worked out great. Banana Lumpia made a great dessert, as did the Chocolate Torte. Both were big; we probably could have shared one between the two of us. Wine list is good and markup is in the 3x range, which is normal in this area. The mixed drinks very much evoke the Hawa’ii of TV and movies and are tasty, fruity, and very bad for your manhood. I had a Manhattan. Ambiance: Not quite kitschy and not quite modern. A workable fusion of the two. Staff was friendly and attentive.
