This place is my go to restaurant when I am in Rhode Island to spend the weekend with my parents. The Sushi is a good quality and not over priced and the Laotion Food is on point! If you get service from this young man named Tyson then this restaurant is 6⁄5 stars. His service is impeccable, water is always ready to be poured, he is polite and will offer some suggestions that aren’t on the menu. The reason I docked a star from this place is because sadly Tyson is not always your server. Some of the other servers… While all very polite young ladies, can be a little lost in their own worlds. Recently the service has improved, but they haven’t reached Tyson level of service yet. I will change the score if the service keeps up. As for food recommendations… You can’t go wrong with what ever your favorite sushi is… But if you are adventurous… Their spicy papaya salad is to die for, their Kao Piek(Laotion noodle soup) is top notch and the Larb is great. Also try the grilled Beef(it’s not on the menu) it’s yummy and it’s the inspiration for my own popular steak recipe.

Ordered take out and the sushi(Kayla roll, RI roll and Spicy Tuna roll) was extremely fresh and delicious! My wife said the vegetable fried rice was the best she’s had. Only knock was the space and seating at the restaurant. While I ordered takeout, it wasn’t ready when I came to the restaurant and it was tight with my 3 year old waiting for it. Takeout is the best bet, and we’ll definitely be back!

Went here for lunch with a co-worker on a Friday afternoon. It’s a very small, quaint place, seating for about 25 people. We sat at the sushi bar and had to wait maybe 15 minutes to be approached. Staff was very friendly, but somewhat inattentive. The sushi was very good, served nice and fresh. We both ordered the Uncle Sushi special which comes with a miso soup and salad. For the price, you get a LOT of food. Soup and salad was also good, although I had to remind waitress to bring it. In general, a nice little place. If the service was better, it would have been 4 stars.

I’ve been eating at Uncle Sushi for a number of years now, and I truly am of the opinion that this is the highest quality and most creative sushi in the area, and possibly the state of RI. To start with the atmosphere and clear the air of any bad comments about it… this is a small sushi place that prides itself on its size and likely intends to stay small. What they have and where they are located in perfectly suitable for what they are doing. Don’t let the lack of parking steer you away. Just go ahead and park on the street next to it, put one foot in front of the other a few times, and likely within less than two minutes you’ll be right inside… simple as that. It’s a small room with a few tables, meaning they are typically very attentive to service and your needs. And the Uncle himself… he is one of the most pleasant people I have ever met. I was away for quite a while once, and when I came back in he knew exactly who I was. This business is a source of pride to him, and he has kept it in the family with another generation of great sushi chefs behind him. Now to the sushi… extremely creative, very generous in size, and always as fresh as can be. I’ve had so many of the rolls, from the Taxi Roll, to the King Roll, Kayla Roll, the 4 Seasons Roll, and everything inbetween. Each and every one has a wonderful flavor balance, with ingredients that are bold in flavor and always fresh. I truly mean it when I say I have not had better sushi in the area as of yet, and for that reason, I will absolutely recommend this place(and have been for years) to anybody looking for great sushi, and I will continue to go back. And in the interest of keeping small businesses thriving(a very challenging task in the RI business climate), I would suggest those that have read this get in there and support the Uncle in his pursuit of high quality sushi.

Went here last night for some sushi and best place in my opinion. Love how cozy the spot is, service was friendly and food was delicious and fresh. Kayla roll was AMAZING and uncle maki combo was great too. Wish we had found this spot a little sooner. Can’t wait to go back for some more sushi‼ :] Defiantly recommend!

Best sushi. Two blocks from my house. Once a while, I went there every week. Now, it is the time to have their great Vietnamese noodle with beef broth!!!

Absolutely love this place. The sushi is great and they have the best Thai ice tea! The best part is they also have delicious veitnamese Phở and Kow Pheak a laotion soup with homemade noodles. I love the fact that they serve laotion food aswell as sushi. So whenever I go there with my family and friends they can order a variety depending on what they’re craving.

Granted, their special sushi rolls are huge and definitely creative, but there is just so much better and fresher sushi options around. That’s just my opinion as Uncle Sushi seems to have enough fans. This spot is tiny and looks out of place at its location on Reservoir Ave. Mostly because the few parking spots available are shared with the car lot next door — or, if you’re brave, on Reservoir Ave itself. Also, I was really looking forward to the soft shell crab tempura, but the whole crab was such a dark brown color and tasted of bad oil. That’s pretty much unforgivable.

Excellent prices — my wife and I were full to the brim on a $ 20 combo. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The fish was a-okay but wasn’t as fresh as I would have liked.

This is the worst sweet potato roll I have ever had. Seaweed salad tastes like it has been sitting in a fridge for a week and the chicken yakitori was completely flavorless. I heard good things about this place but can’t be more disappointed! I had to throw it all away, couldn’t even eat it.

Have frequented this sushi house 2 – 3 times a year when I’m back home to visit family. It has been my traditional send-off lunch. While sushi quality is not extraordinary, it does the job of filling me up. When I go to Japanese restaurants, unless it’s a buffet, I don’t find it worth the money to spend on special rolls. But here, I think you definitely get the quantity to make your money worth it. The rolls are stuffed and packed with the protein in their descriptions. Today I got two special rolls — the firecracker and the powerline tattoo. The former heats you up with its spice. The latter is overflowing with scallops, eel, and octopus. If you’re just mildly hungry, one roll would suffice given its size and contents. However, I came hungry and was craving some Vietnamese phở, too. This was the first time I ordered phở at Uncle Sushi. The stock lacked the beefy flavor that makes a flavorful soup. Plus points for the quantity of meat and noodles for its price point. It’s hard to find a decent bowl of phở at a good price in RI, especially when there’s a surplus in Boston. I would recommend grabbing an appetizer that will cut down the wait time until your sushi is made, especially if you order more than one roll because the impatient will get impatient. I’d suggest the seaweed salad or gyoza. The staff is friendly and Uncle remembers his loyal patrons. Also be smarter about parking — go across the street and park or even along the streets. You don’t need to wait for a spot in the lot.

Be prepared to wait forever and a day for a table, to be recognized, to get your food, and your check. My boyfriend and I have been here a couple of times because we love sushi and it’s rather close to both of our homes. However, the service is just as bad as the wait time for some questionable food. Let me be a tad more specific. The service: it always takes a while to receive any attention since there is usually 1 server available for all of the tables, the waitress that helped us on one occasion was incredibly rude(we asked for the ingredients for one of the sushi rolls and were told«I don’t know» multiple times before she bothered to ask the chef), they serve customers as they see them and no as they come in(we had to wait longer to order than the couple who came in 5 minutes after us), and they never check on you to see if there is something that you need(refills, checks, napkins… just be prepared to holler, even if you’re the only table in the restaurant). The cleanliness: oh god, this place is gross and I regret coming here! The utensils and plates just look dirty. Also, my friend(who also used to eat here) placed an appointment for them for a pest extermination(through blue bug). I’m taking her word on that and never stepping into the place again. The takeout: they told me it would take 30 minutes and it took about an hour. I ordered soup and one sushi roll.. and I had no utensils in the bag. I had to drink the soup straight from the bowl. Sigh, just do not go here. Not worth the lack of parking spaces, wait time, poor service, health risks, and trouble. Unilocal«sushi» and go anywhere but here!

I LOVE their kow piak. It’s really hard to find this soup around especially since there are not a lot of Lao owned restaurants. Best roll they have is definitely the Kayla roll. If you don’t get this, you’re missing out. The problem I have with this place is it’s really small so parking and getting a table can be a problem and the wait staff can be forgetful sometimes.

Uncle Sushi is one of my favorite sushi spots in Rhode Island. The sushi is always amazing and on point. The spicy wings are delicious !! I always get them on the side and literally my eyes water of how spicy they are but I LOVE it! The prices are decent and the location is nice. Usually the waiters are really fast but last time I went me and my mom waited over 20 mins for our food so I was a bit upset because this never happens but overall if you are looking for godo quality not so pricy sushi I wouls come here!

One of my favorite places to get phở soup! I don’t know about much else besides that, but service is good but a little slow, it’s crazy busy regardless of the time so I’m ok with the wait.

Inexpensive and FRESH sushi. The rolls are large and the dining room is small. Uncle Sushi is without a doubt my favorite sushi spot. The Kayla roll is a must have. BYOB and limited parking, FYI.

We can all agree that waiting to be seated at a restaurant can sometimes be expected, but have you ever had to wait to park? Curious diners need to know that directly behind Uncle Sushi exists a car wash. When said car wash is busy and a long, snaking cue forms, it sometimes blocks the tiny parking lot adjacent to this restaurant. The interior is modest and it feels rather casual. The«sushi» here is decent, but I have certainly had fresher-tasting(that of course was in quotes because I do not eat fish and stick to vege rolls). There is however a disconcerting odor emanating from the establishment — not quite bleachy, not quite sour, but certainly not welcoming. Perhaps I caught them on a bad night. Not to write them off entirely, if ever I happen to find myself craving avocado rolls sometime in the future, while on Reservoir Ave, I may consider giving them another whack.

Came here by recommendation. My friend loves this place but more-so recommended the steak and cheese roll and Phở. So I picked this place for my going-away dinner with friends. It’s EXTREMELY tiny. Not so good for big crowds, but more for an intimate dinner for two. They had no problem with accommodating my group of 7. And we were LOUD and rowdy and they didn’t mind that at all. Not so sure about our fellow patrons though. Oh well. Be warned: they do NOT serve ANY alcohol! It is BYOB. Which I also don’t mind, but was not aware of. So my Johnny-Come-Lately friends stopped for some drinks. I chose a sushi place because I’ve been trying to get my non-sushi loving friends to actually TRY sushi. Ha. Well needless to say I ended up eating a LOT of sushi that night. A lot. And going home with even more. How could you not like sushi?!? It’s my life. Anywho normally I don’t go for Americanized sushi like a steak and cheese. But my friend ordered it and she couldn’t get past the seaweed taste. So I ate it and I really enjoyed it. I of course got normal orders of sushi like the Rainbow Roll, a white tuna roll… and two others I don’t quite remember. It was all really delicious. My friends got the crab ragoo roll, which was a hit. They also ordered an array of chicken, which was really good as well. If you don’t like pickled fishy salad, do not get the papaya salad. It was recommended and I hated it. But at least I tried it! Overall we had a blast! Very down to earth and the owners are super friendly. An 8 year old girl did come out at the end of the night, Haha. Not sure where she came from or how long she’d been there. No one got food poising or sick from the food though. So I’ve got nothing bad to say!
