National Pet Center of Cranston

A family run buisness that has «survived» in Rhode Island for 16 years has to say something! True, not a big box pet store but has a great variety of items and they have the experience to answer your questions. I like supporting a local run buisness and even if an item is $ 1 cheaper elsewhere, I still rather go here.
Great place that offers nail clippings & clinics. I give it 5 stars for all the years of service and the quality of service.

Great local pet store! I have been coming here for nearly 15 years. Great place to get crickets, feeder fish, aquarium plants and smaller animals (pinkies, crayfish, snails). I purchased my first rabbit, pet rats and a number of other pocket pets here. I never got a sick animal from them and they are honest about the socialization of their animals (they will tell you if they are selling you a jerk gerbil lol). They are not judgmental and will not try to lecture you about animal care (if you seem to know what you are doing). They are knowledgable and care for their animals more than many other pet stores, and since the same employees/​family members work there daily they really know the animals (temperaments, sex, age, breed, history) they are selling.
While they are not the friendliest people and can come off aloof I just shrug it off to them having to deal with clueless pet owners all day, everyday.
After purchasing so many wonderful animals from them I would have given them 5 stars, but they sell kittens and house their rabbits in wire cages that have mesh wire bottoms. Also they do not breed their rabbits or kittens in-​house so they are possibly the product of poor backyard breeding :(

I can’t attest to what kind of business they currently are, but I was a customer there back in 2001 – 2004. I got the best companion I’ve ever had from them!
My cat, pumpkin, I purchased from them and he was healthy, flea preventative on, dewormed, and all first shots. I still have him and he is wonderful!
I do know they now sell puppies which I recall is something the owner said he would «never» do, so I don’t know what happened there.
But at the time I really liked them.

Horrible place, they don’t care about animals and they’re arrogant about it… very creepy group of people running the operation. Stay away!

I love this place. Great selection for every type of animal, knowledgeable staff. Hours are very convenient and there are a couple of frequent buyer programs for high ticket items.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find their prices on premium foods to be $ 1 – 2 dollars lower than the big national stores.

Support local! I’ve been coming here since I first moved to RI. The staff is always very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Pets are welcome and they even accept litters of kittens (per their guidelines) that they will sell to good homes.

Great little local store. I come here when I am in the area to buy crickets for my Tarantula. YES I have a TARANTULA her name is «Red».
Very reasonably prices for all your animal essentials.
For a small pet store the actually have quite a selection of small pets and fish.
Always lost and founds, or adoption’ for sale signs on the front door … very helpful!
