This is exactly what a fish and chip *shop*(as opposed to restaurant) should be like. Somewhere no-nonsense that you stop into order your fish and chips and go! Those expecting fancy service need to know that we Brits aren’t always posh toffs. We’ve got other things to do and there’s a war on etc. etc. If the owner wants to watch videos on his smart phone why not! This is a back-alley chippie. The fish isn’t processed, it’s just been shaped — nothing wrong with that. It is fresh and white and flaky and comes battered to perfection. I always order the wrong quantity for the occasion, sometimes too many pieces, sometimes not enough! But that’s down to me and it really is simple — choose how many pieces. I think two is about right which I think they call the Big Ben. Chips are perfectly done. Tartar sauce is too mayo-heavy but who cares, it’s just sauce. Comes nicely presented in a mock-newspaper wrapper so you can tuck it under your arm and duck and dive your way home like a cheeky cockney geezer. Yes, they have British groceries too, all the good stuff is there. Some of it is a bit out of date — not going to dock a star just for that, but keep on top of it guvnor!

Tried this place on a whim tonight. I’m pleasantly surprised! Owner/cashier is very friendly, food is great. Had the fish and shrimp, would love to try more such as the clams. The small restaurant has a lot of seating and there is a whole section of really interesting British candy/canned goods/etc. it’s awesome! Give it a chance!

This place is yummy. I think only one man works the front and one man fry in the back. I always see the same two men. I don’t know what other reviews are talking about– his service has always been nice to me. Lightly battered with more fish than batter. I love the fact the oil tastes fresh and not stale and old. You can tell it’s changed often. It makes the fish and chips taste way better. Good tarter sauce and their coleslaw isn’t heavy on the mayo. Not a lot of seating. Mainly take out but I’m from out of town and I’ve dined in each time I visited. One patio table out front if you have dogs. I’ve brought my two dogs here before. Not a lot of drink options besides your standard canned option. I believe this is due to it being mainly take out orders. One of my favorite fish and chips place.
