10 years ago I discovered Mar’s Salon by asking a stranger who did their hair because it looked amazing. Marty and Slyvia did my hair for years and then we moved to LA. The drive was just too far so I started trying to find a replacement in LA. There just wasn’t one. I could be considered a «hair snob» and have paid a small fortune for my cut and color because I really want it to look great. I went to salon’s from Beverly Hills to Malibu and was never really excited by what they did. Every time I got my hair done my husband became accustomed to saying «you like it but don’t love it right?». I was NEVER able to find anyone who did the perfect color and cut like Marty and Sylvia. They are total artists. Marty is a color wizard and has always made sure that my hair feels as good as it looks. I have since moved back to OC and started going back to Mar’s and I will never go to anyone else– they are the absolute best! Go see them– you’re welcome in advance!

I went here a few weeks ago. Sylvia is a terrible stylist. I was referred to the salon by a friend. I have had bad haircuts before but this one was the absolute worst. I ran out of the studio so fast and immediately contacted my regular stylist and made an appointment for her to attempt to salvage what was left after Sylvia’s chop job. (I also cried all the way home) Marti is very nice and good at color, but I was so livid about my hair I am unable to give more than 1 star. This salon is also incredibly overpriced ($ 90 for a haircut /​$ 250 for coloring). Do not use Beverly Hills pricing in a Costa Mesa side street studio.

Marti did the most beautiful Balayage highlights and Keretin treatment for me and Sylvia gave me an amazing cut and style. Marti was recommended to me by a client of mine. My hair was washed out looking and in desperate need of help. All I knew was I wanted highlights. I told her to do what she thought would look good. She took a look at my hair and assessed the situation and worked her magic on my hair! My hair is thin but I have a lot of it. I left with not only my hair looking absolutely beautiful but it looked fuller too. Marti is a true artist. She took her time and really made me feel pretty again. I walked in feeling drab and walked out feeling fab! I would highly recommend her!!!

Being a low maintenance woman that colors her hair, highlights that will look natural for up to 5 months are a necessity for me. After knowing Martis (the owner of the salon, and possibly the most peaceful person in OC), I won’t entertain the idea of visiting anywhere else. The service and salon are very personable and intimate. Since the salon is privately owned, the experience is more upscale than a large commercial salon because Martis personally gets to know her clients and the style they’re going for before she mixes her color. Also– due to the intimacy of the salon– they are busy!
Some of the review’s I’m seeing below regarding violence and lack of communication are some far fetched reviews. I suggest giving them a call now to reserve an appointment. And no, the owner isn’t physical –_​– some people blow my mind!

I have been going to Mars studio for over 15 years. Martis and Sylvia are truly the «Dream Team» of hair! I live in Hawaii now and still fly back for them to cut and color my hair. They are always ahead of the trends with cuts, color and products. They had Moroccan oil products years before it became mainstream. I constantly get compliments on my hair and asked who does it.
I had the hardest time growing out my hair long and making sure it’s growing out healthy. I now have long hair down my back because of the great cut, proper coloring and the best products. No damage from over processing the color and my highlights are always beautiful. Thats a true testament of talent and experience from both Martis and Sylvia.
The customer service has always been fabulous and their cute modern salon is always like a home away from home, cozy and comfortable. I have NEVER seen any cockroaches like the review given on here. That’s definitely fabricated and it you don’t believe me, go see for yourself.

I have been a client of Mars for many years, and couldn’t be more pleased. These two negative reviews are rubbish and possibly fraudulent. the salon is immaculate, and I have never seen so much as a fly inside, never mind a cockroach. They have never failed to answer the phone promptly and courtesously, or to call me back when I have left a message after hours, never. It is nonsense, and motivated by some sort of revenge vendetta having nothing to do with the salon. Don’t be misled or fooled. this is a great salon, Marti is a brilliant colorist, Sylvia a genius with shears and vision, and the assistants are lovely. If you go, you’ll see exactly what I mean. never fear!

My go-​to place! Before going to Martis, I would get my hair done in Dallas near my previous college. Being in Dallas, it is easy to find a great colorist to give highlights (it’s Dallas… Duh). After leaving Dallas, I let a family member who is a «hair stylist» do my hair and it was ruined!
A great friend of mine recommended I go to Mar’s and I am so thankful! Martis was able to correct the mess in one visit and made it better than ever! I live in LA and will not let anyone else touch my hair – even if it means a sudden trip to Orange County!
The studio it’s self is adorable! It is small, clean and very intimate making you feel as though you are a VIP at an exclusive celebrity salon. Aside from the adorable studio, Martis is incredible! She genuinely cares about you and will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with your hair!

A perfect name for a hair salon with dryers that look like they came from Mars. This is a wonderful small chic salon for client’s who want one-​on-​one attention to detail. Marti the owner is ahead of the curve on sustainablility and believes in environmentally sound salons. I had my hair cut and colored by two of the best stylists in Costa Mesa. If you’re looking for safe products and professional service get to Mars.

Well I was walking down Newport Blvd. looking for a place to get a haircut, I finally gave up because either some salons didn’t have space for me (I didn’t have an appointment or anything just looking for a good hair salon or they were women salons) On my way back to my car I passes by a sign that said «Mars Salon Open.» I was like what the heck lets see if i can get a hair cut.
My old haircut was from Luxury Hair Design, I asked for a faux-​hawk, I end up with some weird haircut. Anyways entering the hair salon, it was very feminine, not what I am used to but I asked if I can get a quick haircut. After filling out a form my stylist came, her name was Sylvia. It was very pleasant talking to her. She was very nice ans seem to be know what she was doing. In the end my haircut was exactly the same as in the photo! I was amazed. The total cost was $ 44 a little bit on the expensive side, but was worth it.
The only con was that she didn’t blow hair my hair that much so i still had a bunch of cut hair in my hair. But I was holding up one of her other customers who had an appointment so its alright.
Overall it was a good place, and if Sylvia if your reading this THANKS FOR THE AWESOME HAIRCUT!

I was recommended to Mars Salon by one of my clients. Her hair always looked beautiful. I had recently been to a hair stylist who trashed my hair, so I stopped by Mars Salon and spoke to Marti and Sylvia. They were incredibly sweet; taking time to talk to me about my hair, giving me ideas, but mostly doing a lot of listening. I came back the next day had my hair colored and styled. Besides color, I had a «mini treatment», which was a Keratin treatment that made my hair look shiny and healthy; beautiful color and a blow dry. I’m waiting till my next appointment for a new hair cut. The experience was great. These ladies are professional, and up to date with what’s new in the industry. I’m sold! You will be too!

Tyrone cuts hair and it’s always a great style! I have been going to Mars Salon for almost 2 year and had several hair style, cut by Tyrone and color by Martis. Always loved it. On top of that there is Karin who is an awesome make-​up artist and she does eyebrow waxing like nobody else! She is a perfectionist!

I was so impressed with how my hair turned out. I had gone to a couple of other salons and told them what I wanted, but was never satisfied. It never looked how I wanted. I told Martis what I wanted and she did it EXACTLY how I wanted. Also, I got my eyebrows done (which, I had never done before) and Karin did an amazing job! I have gotten so many compliments and have a ton more self confidence. They were all so welcoming, sweet, funny and made sure I was comfortable.
