Tokyo Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar

I and 3 friends in the 20 – 30 age group walked in and asked for a table. After standing there for ~10 minutes while the place had maybe 3 tables occupied, a second party of 4 walked in behind us. They were immediately seated, presumably because they were all 50+. This was incredibly poor service, so we walked out and ate at Evergreen (where we were seated without issue). I will never be going back since there are other places with equivalently good food that aren’t incompetent or ageist, whichever the root cause was.
I had eaten there a number of times and otherwise would write a positive review, but that experience was extremely unacceptable.

Great salmon and yellowtail sashimi and the place is good looking, the staff here is kind

Food was good and served to us in a timely fashion. Think they charge too much for what you get.

I’ve seen this place for years, but I finally had an excuse to go in.
we got the Teppanyaki lunch which when you think about it is a pretty good value since the only difference between that and the dinner is basically the time of day.
Loved the show of the chefs. Very personable and engaging with deft skill. My only complaint is that the fried rice ends up getting kind of burned. Then you also get these incinerated pieces of rice in your meat even if you didn’t order the fried rice. My advice would be not to get the fried rice at all for anyone in the group. Meat and veggies were cooked well though. However I don’t really get the potatoes in the stir fry. That’s the first time I’ve seen anything like that. The potatoes actually end up stealing flavor from the dish.
The sushi was actually really good. Nicely seasoned rice and lots of creative choices. Value is probably on par with it’s competitors so I can’t really complain. Beautifully presented too.
I’d seen lots of complaints about the service. I thought it was average. Not anything to write home about, but nothing that would make me feel weird about leaving 20%.
All and all it was a great combination of food and sushi. I guess I have never really been a fan of Japanese food in general so getting a five would really require me to be blown away.

This place is absolutely amazing! I came here for my birthday lunch and it was worth the drive to Corvallis from Eugene. We had a little bit of everything and I have no complaints on any of it. My favorite sushi place in Oregon by far. Everything tasted very fresh I was very impressed by the service also. This place is definitely worth a try!

VERY consistent Sushi and Meso Soup! This is now my favorite Sushi place as well as my daughters (both). Service is always good and friendly. The owner will make the rounds usually and ask how things are. The selection is unbelievable and the quality of the fish is first rate. I have been here for business luncheons a number of times and DRIVE from Eugene to come here for Sushi and it has never let me down. Check out the BMW Roll, the Last Samurai and others. You can’t go wrong with any, really!

Good food but poor service. Was seated but then had to wait 20 minutes for waitress and water, and then only after I chased down a waitress that repeatedly walked past us without any eye contact. It wasn’t crowded either and didn’t look understaffed. Probably won’t go back since this is the second time we’ve had such bad service.

i just drive past by this city to see my doctor and stop by this restaurant, just get some salmon pocky but round up continue with 2 – 3 roll and on and on with yellowtail.
Owner is very nice, come to take care me by herself, food come out fast even second or third item .
Atmostphere is japanese style and under big umbellar.
Will come back again for sure.

Best sushi in Corvallis. The Las Vegas Roll and the Margarita Roll are both out of this world. I go here almost every week because it’s that good. The service isn’t the best I’ve experienced, but the food definitely makes up for it! It’s nice to sit at the bar and watch your food being prepared. A good place for a date night or lunch with friends, and I’ve even gone here alone quite a few times and didn’t feel weird. I like the atmosphere and how the place is decorated. I recommend to everyone who likes Asian food. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu and there are a lot of other options for those who aren’t seafood lovers. No sushi I’ve tried anywhere else compares!

I really want to give this place 5 stars. The chef who came to our table (Charley I think) was amazing! He was not to chatty, nor did he ignore us. Made the night so much fun. However, the waitress was not very attentive. She would walk away when someone had just said something. It wasn’t very loud, to not hear him. She just seemed like she had better things to do. All in all, the chef made our night esp for a friend’s birthday we drove all the way from Portland to. But, the waitress almost ruined it. If we hadn’t gotten that chef. I would probably say it would be 1 – 2 stars.

I am writing this before my food arrives only because the service is terrible. The hostess was frazzled, a waitress who didn’t know why we had not been helped took our order, and the manager talked to every table in the restaurant but us. It’s almost like we are invisible.

HORRIBLE! I Got an Order to go. I ordered a teriyaki chicken meal and a vegetable tempura meal. I got home to discover I got NO rice. The teriyaki sauce that was on the chicken was the consistency of, and kinda tasted like, water. It tasted like they had mixed ¼ teriyaki sauce with ¾ water. It literally dripped off our utensils like we were spooning chicken out of broth. It was Nasty! I could not eat much. The Vegetable Tempura looked so pathetic. For 7.50 you get a few TINY pieces of shriveled vegetables. The sauce that came with those was horrible too! This was my first and WILL be my last experience here.

WORST SERVICE EVER. The servers are so oblivious and don’t know the first thing about customer service. There is no sense of urgency and consideration of your wait time. The food is good but definitely over priced.

I wish I could write a review about the food but I didn’t even make it that far.
My parents were celebrating their 50^th wedding anniversary and chose this place. I made reservations a week prior and showed up on time. However, when we arrived we were informed that someone made a mistake and sat another party without reservations at our table.
The hostess was very kind and came up with a solution. She approached the other party and asked if they could shift down one chair so we could sit at the other half of the teppanyaki table. They refused and threatened to call the manager over. The hostess approached the manager and the manager told the hostess that we needed to sit at a side table, order our food there and wait for a table to open up.
Come to find out the group was the manager’s friends (she admitted it). Needless to say, we left and will never be back.

Chose this place spontaneously despite others having bad experiences. I thought I’d give it a try with my buddy. Took a while to be seated. We sat at the sushi bar. Witnessed a little tension between wait staff and sushi chef after there was a mistaken order. Thought it should’ve been more professional with it being the center focus of the restaraunt.
The waitress gave us our waters. She was distasteful and could careless about serving us. Didn’t get refill. When we ordered our meal she was so quick to go wherever she needed to go and almost missed taking my friends order. We had sushi, ramen and chicken katsu. She basically just dropped our food to us and didn’t come back to ask how our meal was. Was quick to come back to drop our check off. Props to the chef for a filling meal.

This is by far the best around!!! We go here all the time and have never had a bad experience. Have not had better sushi anywhere else

Took a chance on this instead of the busier place across the street. I was not disappointed. Sushi was large and fresh. Service was good. Just what I was jonesing for.

Went here after 2 years, and I wasn’t very impressed. Compared to Aomatsu and Sada, this place is definitely last on the list.
The waitresses just sat there for a while and gossiped and laughed. It took a while for someone to realize we were ready to order.
We ordered 4 rolls of sushi, which pretty much tasted the same. As I was eating, I couldn’t help but think the rolls seemed slimy. The tempura rolls came back a little hot to eat, and it made certain elements of the sushi very mushy. The ingredients just didn’t seem that fresh, either.
We also ordered teriyaki chicken. It looked awesome when it came, but such a small portion. When we started to eat, the chicken was dry and chewy. Not that great.
Overall, I would definitely recommend eating at a different sushi place. This place was ok, but definitely has a few stuff to work on.

Haven’t been here in ages! The many times I have been here have been with good friends.
What really drew me here was the Japanese Steakhouse atmosphere! I love sushi and they definitely have those awesome tappenyaki grills to burn up some flavor into your food right in front of your eyes. They also interact with the customers! He had us flip fresh uncracked eggs with a spatula to try and land it in his hat.
The best dish I had here was actually their buffalo steak! Cooked to perfection, I could not get enough!
I remember the sushi being decent as well. They definitely have my all time favorite sake, hanyou or hanya sake which is a sweet and spicy plum sake.
Surely a place with visiting at least once.

This was our first time here. I wanted to take my girl out some place a little nice and different. The Unilocal reviews were low, but the place looked nice.
There is a nice ambiance about the place, but the customer service was D– or F! They forgot my girls order and brought me mine. After about 20 min they realized something was amiss and started asking questions. About 30 min after my bento box arrived her rolls showed up with no apology from the staff :-(
I’ll keep you posted if we get sick from the food, but it tasted good once it finally arrived.
I give one star for food, but they weren’t even busy on a Wednesday night when we went.
