Enjoyed a nice meal here. Would’ve given a 4 star review, but my steak was a bit undercooked when I asked for it to be medium well. The quail is delicious and the desserts are exceptional. The service was very good. The waitress was very attentive. She made sure we were content during our meal. I asked for them to put the Spurs game on and they found the channel and put it on fairly quickly.

I honestly would not return here in one million years. I have loved Texas A1 just about every time I’ve been. But, as of late, my family and I have had horrible luck with this restaurant. The salad seems to give you food poisoning. At first, it seemed like a violent stomach virus until the next two times of eating the salad at Texas A1 made us sick again and again. Today, October 15, 2015, my mother found a foreign object in her chicken Parmesan: a piece of metal. The piece of metal looked as if it belonged on a metal scrubby you would typically use to clean dirty dishes. I am beyond unclear of how a strand of metal wound up imbedded into my mother’s chicken but I do know that she is very lucky she didn’t cut her mouth, let alone swallow that metal strand. Serious health issues could have risen if she were to have swallowed that. If you come to eat at Texas A1, please be wary as this could happen to anyone and the next person may not be so lucky.

The waitstaff was rude. The hostess was visibly upset both times when I wanted to sit at a table that she didn’t puck for me. The grilled fish tasted fine until I saw a roach under the edge of it. My entire dinner party saw it and left most of their food uneaten on the plate. Both times I have dined there was very unpleasant starting with the rude hostess. I will never return here. would give a 10th of a star if I could.

We had good service, and onion rings for appetizer were good, if not a bit pricey, so was the soup good… BUT… Almost everyone out of 10 of us had complaints about our food. My tilapia was super fishy inedible. Been here before with good food, but sad this time.

My husband got the hamburger steak and said it was AWFUL. I had the southwestern avacado salad, and there was more peppers than lettuce. The beer wasn’t that cold. Honestly I’m not sure what else is around the area to compare it to though.

First time I ate here it was really good I had a perfectly cooked ribeye. Second time went back had a bland hamburger that was nothing to brag about. Last time I went I took the family I had a ribeye that had a very strange flavor my wife and daughter had chicken fried steaks that were very bland and had more breading than meat and my son didn’t touch his food. Service was not that good for that type of restaurant I would go back to give another try but wouldn’t recommend it.

The room was comfortable. The waitress took too long to come by and take our order but once she came she was awesome! She was friendly, attentive, and prompt. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with fries and zucchini. The zucchini didn’t taste too good. It was a bit bland, almost cafeteria style? The fries were very good. The chicken was good although a bit too crispy around the edges. The gravy was good. I have to say the rolls were very good. It was a good experience overall during this visit. I would’ve liked faster service when we got there.

The three of us all had steak, two New York strips and a t-bone. All three were very thin and had a strange texture and little flavor. They reminded me of some steaks my dad got from a guy selling out of the back of his truck. My baked potato was also cold even though our good arrived relatively quickly. If you stick to the salads or pasta you should be ok.

Food is average. Lots of variety. Service is poor. I eat there often because of connivence.

What a horrible experience. I took my parents who were visiting from out of town, and while the food was just okay(even though we did send the steak avacodo salad back because the lettuce was rusty and the meat extremely tough) — the service was awful. Our waitress was extremely unpleasant and left us unattended. She got really defensive when I asked her to recalculate the check because she over charged $ 4.00 for our wine. Even though we live in Calallen and our options are very limited, we will not be returning to A-1, ever, ever, ever. I wanted to contact the owner before I posted this review, but the girl at the front could not give me a name, and when I asked for the name of the manager, all I got was«Billy».

Horrible service. Food is edible, but never really satisfying. I usually leave unsatisfied, unfulfilled & irritated at the atrocious service.

Texas A1 has a wide selection of Americana cuisine and a laid back, casual atmosphere. The food portions are fairly large and could be split for two people unless they were starving. Unfortunately, I’m giving Texas A1 two stars instead of four because of the waitstaff. Our waitress was curt, did not smile, and was generally unpleasant throughout our meal. My entire party felt unwelcome. Negative Bonus Points: Texas A1 has a has a bench and ashtray right next to the front door. This is convenient for smokers, but it is a nuisance for non-smokers waiting outside. A number of staff came out to smoke while we were gathered outside. In my opinion, it’s poor form for staff to sit outside of the entrance an light up next to a large group of people who aren’t smoking(including two obviously pregnant women). Gross. Maybe they should go out back?

Went with the family this past Labor Day for an early birthday lunch. I don’t live in Annaville anymore so wasn’t sure where to eat but this place seemed like it could fit the bill alright. Our waitress seemed bored and annoyed even though the place wasn’t terribly busy. She wanted us our of there quick and was started that we wanted to order an appetizer to start with instead of just digging into our entrees. We started with the seafood stuffed mushrooms and they were great. You can taste and see what the seafood actually was and the mushrooms were fried to a crispy deliciousness. The BF had a burger, brother had a hamburger steak, and Mom and I both ordered the 6 oz Cattleman’s Steak(sirloin) and a baked potato. The bread that accompanied the meal was really good but the salad was kind of crappy. It said it had carrots, tomato, and cucumber but one grape tomato and a sliver of carrot and cucumber can’t really be considered. My Greek vinaigrette was good on top of the bagged lettuce though. Our steaks were supposed to be rare and medium and both were overdone. They still tasted delicious and weren’t horribly dry, but I hate to be asked what temperature I prefer and still be served a well done steak. The baked potato was nice and fluffy but only comes with butter and sour cream. You have to pay 50 cents each for bacon and cheese, and the waitress will think you are weird if you don’t want them on your potato. The price was just right though, only $ 9.99 for the steaks and $ 6.99 for the burger and fries, so no real complaints. They just need to figure out how to cook a steak besides well done and to get some better servers, and this place could be awesome.

While visiting my mother, we kept seeing a TV commercial for this place. Everything looked great. We decided to trek over, approx. 30 miles, and try it out. Our drinks came out, and tasted as if the ice was not filtered. There was an off flavor that bled over to the soda that we did not like. We ordered a large platter of O-rings as an appetizer. The three in the group all ordered salads to come out prior to the meal. The salads were average, the lettuce was standard iceberg and could be vastly improved with little effort. The dressings were nothing special. I ordered the ribeye, medium with black eyed peas. My mother ordered the filet mignon, medium well, with baked potato, and the wifey ordered a NY strip, medium, with baked potato. A nice dark bread loaf came out with the salads. It was tasty, but the lack of real butter as a spread took away greatly from its appeal. After finishing our salads, the O-rings appeared, and were a good quality, hand cut, and freshly fried. The chef appeared and advised me that they were out of black eyed peas, and asked if a vegetable medley would be okay. I advised yes. The meal came right after this. Unfortunately, as it frequently happens, mainly to server error, I believe, our entrees appeared right on top of our appetizer. This blows, no matter where you are dining!!! :-( We dug in, and I found my ribeye to be cooked as ordered and have really good flavor on its own. I found no need to add vast amounts of pepper or some salt, as I usually do. The vegetables were obviously from a frozen bag, and had zero flavor. My mother’s filet was undercooked, and her potato was average. The lack of real butter hindered this once again. The wife’s NY strip was overcooked, and same issues with the baked potato as above. I believe that this establishment can make major improvements overall with very minor tweaks in the quality control, and attention to detail area. For the price paid, the national chain steakhouse a little farther away would have been a better choice for us.

The catfish and chicken tenders had no seasoning and the shrimp was overcooked and also had no seasoning. The silverware was dirty. Thumbs down. 1÷5÷12

I’ve eaten here a couple times now. I love the steak and avacado salad. The first time I went I got the cajun pasta, let’s just put it this was Greek people should never attempt cajun pasta. My boyfriend usually gets the steak or kabobs and says they are really good. Sometimes the service is a not up to par.

Excellent steakhouse. My friend had the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes, I had the Cattleman’s Special(or whatever it may be called, it’s a sirloin) with a baked potato. The prices are decent, any lower and I suspect it wouldn’t taste as good as it does. The flavor of everything was wonderful. My only complaint is that my potato was a bit dry, and the salad was basically just bagged salad, but the dressing was great! The atmosphere is pleasant, clean and inviting. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and I imagine it’s because this place is brand new. They were great. The owner even walked table to table asking how everyone was doing. This place is the only Steakhouse in Portland(if you don’t count Chili’s, I don’t), and I will definitely be eating here again.
