We were in Corpus Christi and decided to try out this place. What a treat! It was a Friday evening, but early(before 6 pm) and the place was already filling up. Before we left, there was not an empty seat. Although it was kind of noisy, it was filled by friendly sounds of families, elderly, grandparents with children, all seeming to have a great time. As soon as we were seated, we were warmly greeted and brought some super good(crunchy on outside) hush puppies. The food we ordered and ate was all very tasty. The cornmeal batter was crunchy, flavorful but light and not over salted as in many places. The catfish filles were delish, as were the oysters, shimp and such. Even the coleslaw was just right, as well as the tastey beans. I so love finding a good local eating place to visit and support. This place was homey, had a nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and best of all, served great food at fair prices. I’d for sure go again.

Went in 1÷12÷15 at around 7:30pm and was EXTREMELY disappointed. I had gone here before and enjoyed it so naturally tried t again while I was in town. I travel for work so I’m typically by myself — no biggie. Well I walk in and sit down and wasn’t even acknowledged for approx 8 – 10 minutes… then I left. The place isn’t that busy and no one greets you at the door. Luckily, a «regular» at the bar said you can sit anywhere so I did. Maybe I’m jumping the gun but when waitresses are chatting with other tables and employees at the front, make eye contact with you, and then just keep going without saying a word, then I’m obviously not in the right place. Even a «I’ll be right with you» would suffice. Maybe this was an off night but I won’t be back, at least not for awhile.

Been coming here for years. The best food in corpus that I’ve found. Fried oysters are great and the ship just as good. The hush puppies are the best

This restaurant is great. The hush puppies are outstanding. The service is good and friendly. If you are still hungry when you leave that is your fault. Portions are large.

I went there Sunday place was not bust at all. Was suppose to be my first time if I got any service. Walking in man told me sit anyway. Ok so I took a table and waited and waited and waited still 15 min later no one came to us with a menu or ask if we wanted anything to drink. So we got us and left. For me that’s extremely bad service. I wanted to give NoStars

This place gets a good rep, and it’s not hard to see why. The place was busy for weeknight, but service was good and the food was great. I loved the catfish. Idk who Charlie is, but he got catfish right.

Great service and delicious food! Low key, casual atmosphere and great for families. Plenty of food per person and yummy(but a bit spicy-just a heads up) hush puppies served with drinks. Will visit again when in town. For 2 adults and 2 kids the total was only $ 40 for the generous portions we received.

Went in after church for lunch and it was as good as I remembered. The hushpuppies were yummy with just a hint of spice. Our catfish and fries were hot and crispy as we requested. The beans needed a bit of flavor but I would rather add salt than them be too salty. Waitress was efficient but could have been a little more outgoing. Definitely a Corpus long time favorite!

The food was bland. Ordered their catfish platter because I thought that’s what they are known for based on their name Catfish Charlie’s… Anyway my fave thing here was the hush puppies dipped in some tasty relish sauce they give you as an inclusive appetizer for the table(5 stars for hush puppies) Ate here before heading back home after a short weekend getaway to South Padre. Wouldn’t return just didn’t have enough time to Unilocal for a better recommendation in the area we were in cuz my phone died– Fail

Great atmosphere inside, the place was kinda of dark though; however, we were greeted at the door and service was instant. The food was great — I ordered the small shrimp plate, but the portions… I’m not so sure. I received 3 shrimps and only a handful of fries, with a cup of beans. I think there should have been more for the price(7.99 or 8.99 not too sure). Other than that place was clean, service was great and the food had great taste!

Their fried shrimp was good! Free hush puppies! They were good too. My only dislike I’d say is the table was kinda small for four people… But its ok I’d still come back. as long as their food stays good.

The wait was 25 minutes on a Friday night. Not bad, the turn over was pretty quick. The staff was very freindly. Like all the other reviews, the Hush Puppies are excellent. Bites of jalapeño gives them just the right heat. I had the butterfly shrimp, the batter was close to a tempura batter. You tasted the shrimp, not the batter. My wife had the catfish, light corn meal breading as expected. Very good flavor. All white meat, no muddy darkfesh. The sides; red beans are standard and nothing to write about, slaw was another story. We are very particular about slaw. This had a crunch and was not creamy. Good for us, it’s how we like it. There was a hint of vinegar, very good.

Great atmosphere! Friendly family-like staff! Not a huge seafood fan but hadn’t been here for years, so why not come back! Huge, delicious, meaty shrimp! Glad to see there are still some well-kept family businesses in Corpus Christi!

We went for dinner on a sunday. It was busy but not crowded. I had the chicken fried steak which was pretty good. Comes with steak fries and beans in a cup and cole slaw. My friend had the catfish dinner and it was also very good. I generally dislike catfish but this had a good flavor. Free hushpuppies with homemade tartar sauce were great as well. The portions are not«huge» but I would say they are at least above average. Décor is pretty nondescript, rustic feel. It was slightly cold inside I would guess probably 67 degrees so if you get cold easily take a jacket. Our waitress was friendly and not overbearing. I have lived here 3 years and have probably driven past this place 600 times and never really noticed that it was here. I would definitely return.

I grew up in MS and eating at the original CC’s so I really wanted to revisit my childhood and see how this one compares. Not only will I review it with my memories involved but also compare it to what a Gulf Coast fried seafood restaurant should be doing. Rhe interior is pretty close to the original: dim lighting, wood walls, feels like you are eating near a body of water where they fish and bring in everything they’re going to serve that day. You get a basket of hushpuppies along with tartar sauce(with pimentos??) and cocktail sauce that had so much horseradish that that’s all you taste. It was overbearing. I’m curious as to if they follow a recipe or if someone makes it to their liking. I can’t tell. The hushpuppies aren’t anything special but at least their are onions in them. Some are Texan style with jalapeños. Not sure if this is just this location but jalapeños do not go in hushpuppies and I didn’t notice a nite mentioning this on the menu. The chicken looks freshly fried and the fish too but the cornbread coating is missing, making it look precooked from a bag. They are also nuggets instead of strips. I can’t stand this. You can get small strips nugget style but they made these into pure nuggets, not strips. This doesn’t make it feel homemade. The fries are steak fries — typical of fish places. The red beans are disappointing. No rice. Just a bowl of bland red beans. This isn’t MS cooking. The coleslaw is ok. Nothing special. It’s sweet. The waitresses are kind and are very helpful at least.
