Nicky Rottens Bar & Burger Joint

We stopped in here because nearby Coronado Brewing Company was packed to the gills. I was craving a burger anyway, so this fit the bill. I was sad to discover, however, that my previous favorite burger was no longer on the menu (it was bleu cheese, bacon deliciousness.) It’s been quite awhile since my last Nicky Rottens visit, so it’s probably been off for awhile, but man it really was a bummer.
I went with the chili cheese burger (no bun) and he went with the spicy bbq chicken wings. He was going to order fries, but the menu listed the price at $ 8.95 so I just told him to take mine since I didn’t want a ton anyway. I guess since I ordered a bunless burger they thought I wouldn’t want fries really so they gave me a teeny tiny amount compared to the amount given as a side on the tables around me. Anyway, the burger was definitely good, and the wings were nice and spicy.
If you’re looking for a sports bar on the Island, this is a great place to check out.

Very amazing Hamburgers at this place! Amazing drinks and a beautiful view if you choose to sit outside. We went here on a whim and do not regret it! Parking is an issue so take whatever you can regardless of the distance. We prefer to go earlier than later for dinner. The later you go-​the busier it is!

We returned to Nicky Rottens to find that my favorite 16oz Ribeye has been pulled off the menu. The restaurant seemed empty, this place is usually packed even on a Thursday afternoon. I ordered the BLT, it was ok but it was a little too heavy on the pork smoked flavor, but still good. Service was fast and great. Nicky, Bring back the 16oz Ribeye and I will return. Thanks.

Disappointing. This used to be one of our favorite places but they have changed their menu eliminating some of our favorite dishes. Food items are overpriced but not unusual for Coronado. Food took too long to receive and it was made wrong so we waited once again. Quesadillas was overcooked, bland, skimpy and too expensive for what you got. Never again. Time to find a new hangout.

Nicky Rottens is in a great location. I love the bay view from
the patio. The bugers and onions rings are the best in Coronado.
They have a nice selection of beer. There’s plenty of close by
free parking right by the bay. Just make sure your really
hungry because the burgers are extra large. Great service I will
definately be going back for more food and fun.

Honestly don’t know why they only have 3 ½ stars. Food was so yummy and place is nice!

Stopped in here for some drinks and football on Saturday afternoon — great place to watch a game, TVs and projector screens everywhere. We had just eaten before heading to Coronado, so a return trip is definitely in order to try one of their burgers… Maybe even the Challenge Burger (2.5 lbs of beef on a custom baked bun and fries).
We did order some wings, which were perfectly cooked and HUGE and tossed in their buffalo ranch sauce, highly recommended. They have rotating taps of modern times, ballast point, saint Archer and Coronado brewing company of course, plus cocktails and domestic beers.
Our waitress was very friendly and attentive even with a full section. Overall a good experience, I’ll definitely be back soon!

Ok so here u go. nr has great bar tenders that make very good drinks however the food is suspect. I ordered a burger with peppercorn sauce on it. The sauce and bun etc was awesome. But they do not hand pack their own meat. The burger is a prepackaged piece of meat. The meat was firm and just did not taste right. I think it is pretty easy to get the burger right. They want high volume on this item but I w never order again unless they take the time and hand press this burger meat.
The bar is great good sports etc but Managment needs to develop a good Burger.
Also worthy to note the place is clean and a great party atmosphere.

Besides the food being good here. The management is on top of things. The reason why I say this, is because one of their waiters lost my driver’s license when I ordered a certain item on the menu and then seemed to have misplaced/​lost it. I got in contact with Rob, the GM and I asked him to look over the recorded tape at the time and date I was there, since the waiter who waited on us said that he did give back the DL, then later admitted that he did misplaced it. Really? Anyway. The point is that Rob told me to go ahead and get a new DL and he would refund the cost. I asked him if he has ever been to the DMV? You think it’s that easy? Haha… He then told me that he would go ahead and accommodate my family and I to a free meal on him. Rob and his staff were on top of it when I brought my family in to eat. He did as he said and took care of us. By the way, if this ever happens to you, just make sure you take of your server, even if the meal is free. My family, friends and I have been and will be back here to eat. Great customer service. Thank you Rob. Great Job! We loved the food by the way! Delicious!

I stop in here for a beer occasionally. They have daily specials. I like the location, it’s not super fancy in Coronado, so that’s cool. There is always a nice bartender there with dark hair. She doesn’t talk too much, which is cool, cause sometimes, I just want to chill.
Food portions are HUGE. I kind of wish they did half portions. Good beer selection.

Great lunch! Try the iced tea! Had yummy salads! More than s burger joint! And our server Thomas was so nice! And took great care of us. I’ll come back!

Get this! You can order a bowl of chili here but you cannot order just a cup. Not really liking this place.

Great place to watch football or any game at that. The atmosphere here is down to earth with a mixture of young and old. The patio is great to bring your fur baby. The burgers are awesome and pretty feeling. Bloody Marys are good but need a little more liquor kick if you know what i mean. I perfer this Nicky Rottens over the other San Diego locations. The waitress Amanda was great and very accommodating. Will definitely be back

My wife once said I should own stock in this place because I eat here so much. When the place was family owned it was my favorite restaurant in San Diego.
However, the family sold and now the place appears to be corporate (according to one of the staff members).
Once the placed changed ownership the changes started. I didn’t mind some of them. IE they changed the fries and they went from damn good to cardboard. Now many of the staple items ie the best burgers are no longer on the menu and is seems as though they down graded the quality of the ingredients they use.
Now the place is mediocre at best. It is really sad for me to lose one of my favorite most attended to restaurants here in SD.

I have to disagree with the previous comments about the burgers being greasing. I personally don’t eat greasing stuff so before purchasing I asked our server if it was true that there burgers were greasing based on the comments I read. Anyways, I had Maui wow burger and it was the bomb! I enjoyed it and so did my date, he had jalapeño burger with avocado. We both were very happy with the food and the service was excellent friendly servers.

The view is amazing and great place to watch a football game. Lots of TV’s. The service was very good despite being very busy.
I was shocked they took one of their best items off the menu. The Patty Melt. One of the best melts in town and worth the drive over the bridge. Thanks to the restaurant going corporate they have changed their menu and no longer carry it. It is against their CORPORATE policy to make them even if a customer requests one. No more family owned menu. instead you get a corporate menu like Chili’s or Islands. Until they bring back the patty melt, I will no longer go to this joint.
I ordered a burger. Good flavor but came out lukewarm. I also «upgraded» my fries (at a cost of $ 3) to get the garlic fries. They barely came with any fries and half a jar of garlic.
I have been going to Nicky’s for a while (loved the downtown site). The quality used to be phenomenal but is no longer there. This place is nothing better than a Burger King or Jack in the Box burger.

I used to love nicky rotten’s downtown. I praised it as the best burger in San Diego but, they closed the Downtown San Diego restaurant. I wnt to the Coronado location and had THE WORST burger. The food came out cold and service was extremely slow. We had to ask 3 times for the waitress to come over to take our order.
Used to be the best and they are terrible now.

I love this place! Such amazing selections of food and beer. The burgers are on the larger size scale, recommend sharing and trying out there great appetizers! Great location too, very central

1 star for view, 1 for the waitress. View is terrific. 3^rd time there, 2 of 3 were misses. This time asked for Med Well Shroom burger. IT arrived rare as rare. I nibbled around the edges and killed the salad. By the time my cool waitress came back she asked if I wanted another, but no way, jay. She offered to pick up my tab, and I said thanks, but no. She was awesome, but I think her management didn’t give her options to service her customer. I left her $ 12 + $ 5, so I hope it made amends with her. I think their management needs to work with and offer customers other options versus just one, well make you another (after you’ve already lost your appetite). I asked for a free burger next time in, no way, so ok -…It is what it is. I doubt Ill go back, but if I do, it will be brews and football TVs only…

This place makes me nervous now.
There is a sign outside saying that the business is being sold. Also when a menu was handed to me it was absolutely filthy. They need to have happy hour on the weekends or else forget it

Came in on a weekday early evening before the dinner rush and was seated promptly with my wife and kid. Long story short: burgers were fantastic and huge, skip the specialty fries — not as good as some here have suggested… While our hostess was friendly, our waitress could not have cared less — she did the bare minimum to not get me angry.
Setting is a dark, enjoyable, cool setting, a bit dated but in a classic way.
Come for the burgers, endure the bad service and skip their specialty fries.

Burgers are delish and enormous! The menu is varied, but you can add and subtract at will to get a burger just the way you want it. The dipping sauce for the zucchini is some creamy wasabi variety and will definitely clear your sinuses, but is the perfect complement to them. A maple syrup comes with the sweet potato fries, very interesting choice. A wide variety of beer and premium liquor round out the meal nicely. We were too full to try dessert, but they had em and they looked lovely on the table next to us. Highly recommend if you’re in Coronado and burger hungry.

After spending some time in Coronado, My girlfriend and I decided to stop here and have some drinks. Mainly to try they’re mimosas, and they were great! The price you can’t even beat for $ 4 bucks (before 4pm and $ 6 after), and I was drinking like a fish. The environment is very laid back. No one in your business, they were playing some great throw back jams which caught me off guard to be honest, and the service was good.
I only gave it 3 stars, since I only stopped in for drinks, and I really can’t say a full review regarding they’re food.
Rest assure though, I will be going back since the table next to us ordered some burgers, and my eyes were glued to those burgers like white on rice! That’s when I knew I had to come back and try the food.

Been wanting to try out this burger place for awhile because it has a pretty view and I’ve heard good food as well! I thought the burgers were decent. I ordered the Bacaba burger which was bacon and avocado! Don’t get me wrong it was good but I have had better. It was tasteful but I wasn’t a big fan of the bun. The burger was also extremely large so be prepared for that when you order your food. My friends and I decided to sit at the bar to watch the Warriors game which I wish they had played aloud since it was the NBA playoffs.
The service wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad either. I could pretty much sum up this place as mediocre. I’d like to go back and try some of their appetizers because it looked like they had some good ones. I suggest coming here and making your own decision on whether you like it or not!

We came here after visiting the Midway. The ferry dock is a short walk away.
They had a good number of West Coast Brews on tap which was awesome. I went with a sandwich, my wife a salad. The meals were very good. We looked at the table next to us and the burgers they had were huge! The standout here was the server. She was running multiple tables and checked in with us frequently. She had a great attitude and was very friendly.
They have a number of tall tables you can sit at inside or outside. There’s also a bar and some more traditional tables.
We did not have a wait when we came here just before the dinner hour. We did come by one night around 6 or 7 and they did have a 30 – 40 minute wait.

Love the location… Just a few blocks from The base. Sunday morning breakfast specials and lots of TVs’ to watch the game. Service was great! Our server Gabby was friendly and attentive.
We both ordered the steak and eggs and we both enjoyed coffee and shared a Bloody Mary (kidding, I had the Bloody Mary) which was pretty potent. I would definitely go back to try the burgers they looked very tasty!
