(This was an unfinished review from 2013) This has got to be the worse Mexican Food restaurant that I had ever been to, the food was awful. I don’t know how this place has remained open.

Idk why this place has such bad reviews. I love the consome, I also have tasted the Carne asada & lengua tacos which are super good! They started selling raspados, chomoyadas, amazing corn on the cob & esquites. I love this place

Are you people on glue? This place is bomb for Taco Tuesday! Are the tables a little dirty? Maybe. Is the décor«dingy»? Sure.(Thus the 4 stars) But for .59 tacos what do you want? It’s a taco shack, people. Get your order to go if you can’t stand to look at the place. This place has authentic street tacos and legit homemade salsa. If you’re looking for a good Taco Tuesday spot, this is it. We will definitely be back.

If I could give this place a NEGATIVE rating I would. The food was absolutely disgusting. The menu was the most illiterate thing I have ever read, and the service was less than mediocre. I ordered the combo plate with a crispy taco, Chile relleno, and cheese enchilada. This plate came with the standard beans and rice, and they were flavorless and the beans were pasty. I was able to choke down one bite of each of the items on my plate. The thought of eating anymore nearly made me nauseous. This was hands down the WORSTMEXICAN food I have ever tried. If for some reason you find yourself in el borrego refrain from eating anything but the chips and salsa.

Not sure why all the bad reviews. This place is right down the street from my boyfriends and its a easy go-to place for authentic mexican food. They have one of the best salsas around and the specific salsa they put on their tacos is superb! We usually go for Taco tuesday, and at $ 0.89 you can’t beat that. None of that el-torito americanized food, el borrego is home made cooking for less! Super fresh! I do have to agree with Matt M. when first walk in, you get kind of lost. No one really greets you and you’re unsure if you seat yourself or just wait for someone to get you. Must say it is a little dingy but their food is good enough for me to sit it through.

I will call this place«A Nightmare On Border Ave», I am probably the biggest fan of Mexican Food, but this place was the absolute worst. I had the enchilada’s combo. My fork couldn’t even cut through the damn things, the tortilla’s they used must have been really old. They was a private dinner going on in the next room, and employees were slipping in and out of the door quietly. I don’t know who was in there, but all their attention was focused on them. They would say, «be right back to fill your tea», but they would never come. So in all that time waiting for service, I would look around the room and see all the grime on the chairs, carpet and fixtures. Will never return

I read the other reviews after eating here twice and having a great experience(food wise) both times. Yes, the tablecloths are not exchanged very often, definitely not after each patron, but aside from that and the lack of other customers(even at 5:30PM on a Saturday) the place is great. On our first visit we went for lunch. Neither of us recall what we had, but we both remember being gobsmacked by how good it was. The waiter was telling us how the Mexicans come in on Saturday & Sunday for their lamb. Even though we were stuffed, he brought out a small bowl with a(very large) tasting of the lamb. We swooned, it was so good. Our waiter proudly told us that they don’t use any seasonings on the lamb; it is roasted in agave leaves. Delicious, and different! We visited because we found them on and were very happy we had. It took us about 2 months to return, but we finally did. This time for dinner. Again, we were using certificates which allowed us to try an appetizer along with a couple of dinners and still just barely spend the minimum $ 20(my beer did not count.) We ordered the mushroom quesadilla for an appetizer. I would not recommend that — the mushroom was a very strong flavor and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. We both ordered lamb for dinner, I had mine plain with rice & beans, Jim had his with the green sauce. Mine was downright delicious. Jim’s was just as good and maybe better — the green sauce complemented the lamb extremely well. The waiter again told us they put no spices on the lamb, just cook it with agave leaves. Whatever they do, it works. Order the lamb — it’s so good I can’t imagine we’ll ever order anything else. The menu calls it «sheep» Don’t fret; this is not your shepherd grandpappy’s mutton; this is prime lamb. Oh, and the price is very reasonable too. This place is worth it for the food. Forget the cheesy ambience. Even though we situated ourselves to watch the futbal on tv, they turned it off and switched on the music when the waiter came out and saw us. That was fine, better for a dining experience I suppose.

I see all the bad reviews, and I don’t disagree with the 1 star, but if you would try the barbacoa and consume you might give it a better rating lol thats the only thing I come for ! Other than that try at your own risk

one word HORRIBLE! I actually vomitted after my meal here! friends of ours had ordered take out dollar tacos once and they were ok, nothing amazing but not horrible… so we decided to actually go and have dinner there and try their tacos again… we ordered different kinds of tacos, only for the waitress to bring us our tacos and tell us they ran out of several different meats but she took it upon herself to substitute them without asking us first. Whatever meat they had, tasted horrible. I then ordered a tamale, thinking that maybe it would be better, again, I ordered pork and she brougth me beef because they ran out, and to my horrible surprise it was disgusting! they tried drenching it in some red sauce that was disgusting. I had to down 2 beers to try and get the taste out of my mouth, we left and I barely made it home before I threw it up. This place looks like crap, the linens were dirty, they try running it like a mom and pop restaurant in Mexico which I can appreciate being that I’m Mexican and can pretty much eat anywhere as long as the food is good, this place is a disgrace, I felt like I was in some strangers dirty kitchen, not a homey restaurant. I cant even give it one star! :(

This restaurant was just wrong on so many levels. Like Kristine G., I really wanted to like this place. I always want to find a good hole in the wall away from all the chain restaurants. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone I know! The only plus about this place was the salsa. It was homemade authentic, like the kind I make at home. I don’t even know how to begin describing my horrible experience. Right from the start when you walk in the place just looks dirty. I have been to hole in the wall places and am fine with it normally. Once I sat down this place just made me feel dirty. The table clothes had stains all over them. There was hair stuck to the table cloth. The carpet and chairs had stains on them. YUCK! Still giving it the benefit I stayed. The food was horrible! I have had all types of Mexican food from authentic to Americanized Mexican. This was unlike any I have ever had before. The enchilada sauce was super sweet and not in a good way. It was just wrong. I almost threw up in my mouth! The beans were cold and were old. The rice was cold and tasted like white rice with a few spices on top. The soda was even flat! So if you must go to this restaurant for any reason order water and chips and salsa. I can’t recommend anything else. I left feeling dirty and having a funky taste in my mouth.

Wednesday’s have fish tacos that are off the hook. 2 Dollar Fish Tacs and 2 Dollar Widmers(not that I really even like hefs but they do pair well). The beer was cold, and he even threw in 2 salads that were full of seeds, nuts, fresh fruit, and lovely greens for 5 Bu… The décor is sleezy, great if you want to look like you belong in a ridiculous Gotti setting eating torillas and beans… The family comes in and out which is really awkward since my pal and i were the only ones in the restaurant. Really good service though…

I am sitting here waiting for my food… its my first time visiting. Ive read other reviews and they dont seem to be good. It does seem a little shady in here, its a little dingy, and im the only one here… crazy considering its 89 cent tacos for taco tuesday. I hope the tacos are good… wish me luck… i will let you know once i get them. I got home and ate my tacos and they were delish. I think i found my new taco tuesday place!
